51 flights delayed due to fog at Bengaluru airport

January 14, 2019 by Nasheman

While 35 flight arrivals were affected, 16 flight departures were delayed.

Fog during the early morning hours of Sunday in Bengaluru disrupted at least 52 flights at the city’s Kempegowda International Airport.

“As a result of the fog, departure of 35 flights and the arrival of another 16 flights was delayed,” the airport operator Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) said in a statement.

One flight was diverted to Hyderabad due to the fog-related disruption, the statement added.

A visibility standby issued at the airport at 4:45 am was withdrawn over four hours later at 9:04 am. A standby like this is declared when the visibility at the airport decreases to below 2,500 metres.

The departure and arrival delays continued through the day at the airport.

The tech hub’s airport has an average of 300 departures and arrivals each on a daily basis.

The city recorded a maximum temperature of 28.8 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 14 degrees Celsius over the past 24 hours, according to the Bengaluru division of India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Dense fog has led to disruption in flights on several occasions this month.

On January 7, one Indigo flight from Delhi to Bengaluru was diverted and the departures of 41 flights were delayed due to conditions of fog. Prior to that, 38 flights were delayed due to fog on January 6.

In fact, conditions of fog caused delays at the Bengaluru International Airport on six of the first seven days of the year, as per airport authorities. This has inconvenienced thousands of passengers flying in and out of the airport, particularly in the morning.

This comes at a time when a cold wave is sweeping through the city with temperatures in parts of the city dropping to single digits, as per the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC).

Several airline companies took to social media to issue travel advisories to passengers in Bengaluru on Sunday, due to the weather conditions.

PM reacting to a statement I never made’: K’taka CM Kumaraswamy on Modi’s ‘clerk’ jibe

January 14, 2019 by Nasheman

Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy said that he was “amused” by Modi making baseless allegations for the second time.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday mocked Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy by referring to reports that mentioned that HDK said he was being treated “like a clerk” by the coalition government in the state.

Speaking at Ramlila Maidan at the BJP National Convention in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “In Telangana, the coalition was badly defeated and in Karnataka, where the coalition’s first government was formed, the Chief Minister there is so worried — and it has only been a few months — that he says instead of a Chief Minister, he has been treated like a clerk.”

Reacting to the jibe, Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy said that he was “amused” by Modi making baseless allegations for the second time.

“I am amused to see Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi reacting to a statement which I never made. After farmers loan, this is the second time he is reacting to false information/statement. Such statements won’t deter our coalition government from the development agenda,” Chief Minister Kumaraswamy said.

Last week, several media reports had surfaced which claimed that the Chief Minister had shed tears at a JD(S) party meeting. The reports also claimed that Kumaraswamy felt like he was being offered the position of a clerk while the Congress leaders were trying to usurp power. Soon after the reports surfaced, Kumaraswamy called them baseless, and told the media that he had never said anything of the sort.

In response to Modi’s statement, former CM Siddaramaiah said, “Looks like Sangh Parivaar’s clerk Prime Minister Modi is speaking from his own experiences. Old habits… the rest you know”.

In December last year, PM Modi had called the farm loan waiver a cruel joke and that only 800 farmers in the state had benefited from Kumaraswamy’s loan waiver scheme.

Soon after, Kumaraswamy had called the accusations incorrect and insensitive, while listing out the total number of loans that were waived in the state.

Armed forces shoot at mourners and protesters who tried to attend funeral prayers of two rebels killed in gun battle.

At least 11 people have been injured after Indian security forces opened fire on mourners, who were attending the funeral of two rebels in Indian-administered Kashmir.

Zeenat ul-Islam was killed along with his associate on Saturday in a gun battle with Indian troops.

Thousands of people on Sunday marched towards his village, Sugan in Shopian district, to offer funeral prayers despite the barricades and deployment of troops along the way.

To stop people from joining the funeral prayers, government forces fired bullets, shotgun pellets and tear gas to stop the mourners, leading to street clashes as groups of youths pelted stones at the troops, police and residents said.

Kashmir sees its deadliest year in about a decade

According to Anadolu Agency, six injured were brought to the district hospital in Pulwama.

One of the injured is in critical condition, according to local media reports.

Nasheman News : The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Sunday sought a detailed information from Delhi Police over its action taken in the matter regarding an email threatening to kidnap Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s daughter.

In a letter, DCW chief Swati Maliwal Jaihind asked the Delhi Police to provide information to the Commission by Wednesday on some points that included copy of FIR registered in the matter, status report of the investigation, details of the email ID and IP address from which the mail was sent; whether the IP address has been tracked and the location/ persons identified, if not, provide reason for the same; and reason for no arrests in the matter to date.

“The Commission views this as an extremely serious matter where the family of the elected head of the state is being openly threatened and the police has failed to nab the culprits. In the past as well, the security of the Chief Minister and his family has been breached on several occasions which raises serious concerns on the safety.

“It is learnt that the Delhi Police has deputed a Personal Security Officer with the Kejriwal’s daughter and the matter has been referred to the Cyber Cell wing of the force. Mere posting of a PSO is not enough and immediate steps should be taken to nab the culprits as well as ensure complete protection and safety of the Chief Minister and his family,” the letter read.

As per the letter, the DCW chief has taken suo-moto congnisance of the media reports regarding the matter.

The official email of the Delhi Chief Minister received a mail on Wednesday from an anonymous account threatening to kidnap his daughter.

All’s not well between JD(S) Congress in Karnataka?

January 14, 2019 by Nasheman

Image result for All's not well between JD-U-Congress in Karnataka? BJP keeping a close watch

Nasheman News :  Is all not well between JD(s) and Congress in Karnataka? BJP is keeping a close watch Karnataka Minister and senior Congress leader DK Shivakumar said the BJP’s ”Operation Lotus” to topple the state’s coalition government was for real, alleging that three Congress MLAs were camping in a hotel in Mumbai in the “company of some BJP leaders”.”Horse trading is going on in the state.

Three of our MLAs are in Mumbai in a hotel with some BJP MLAs and leaders. We are aware of what has transpired there and how much has been offered to them,” he said.Operation Lotus is a reference to the BJP allegedly luring several opposition MLAs to defect to ensure the stability of its then-government headed by BS Yeddyurappa in Karnataka in 2008.Shivakumar, who had earned the reputation of being a “trouble-shooter” in the Congress for bailing out the party from many crises in the past, accused Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy of being “lenient” towards the BJP.”Our chief minister is a bit lenient towards the BJP. By ”lenient”, I mean he is not exposing the facts he knows.

All the MLAs have conveyed to the chief minister about the ongoing conspiracies. They have also told Siddaramaiah about it.”The chief minister is adopting a policy of wait and watch. If I was in his place, I would have exposed it within 24 hours,” Shivakumar said. The minister said former chief minister Siddaramaiah and Congress state president Dinesh Gundu Rao were aware of the development.Shivakumar, however, exuded confidence that the BJP would not succeed in its attempt.”You have been saying that a ”kranti” (revolution) may happen after Makar Sankranti. Let us see. It is not so easy because there is already anti-defection law in place, but we are aware of what you are hinting at,” he said in an apparent reference to the opposition BJP in the state.

The minister also wondered why the income tax department and the anti-corruption bureau failed to initiate any action on a complaint by Dinesh Gundu Rao on the matter.

Many Congress MLAs in the Karnataka have alleged that they were approached by the BJP leaders to quit their party and join them. The BJP has trashed the charges. In the meantime Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy appears unhappy with Congress and said that the party shouldn’t treat JD-S as third grade citizens.

As Karnataka’s ruling coalition constituents Congress and JD-S get down to brass tacks for the Lok Sabha polls, Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said his party should not be treated as “third grade citizens” and that both the partners adopt a “give and take policy” to put up a united fight against the BJP.With the coalition partners expected to hold talks on the tricky seat-sharing issue amid pressure within the Congress not to cede much to Janata Dal (Secular), Kumaraswamy stressed there should not be any “pettiness” on both sides. In an interview to media, the chief minister said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s charisma was “fading” with growing anti-incumbency, and pitched for Congress president Rahul Gandhi for the top job while also admitting that there was a lack of consensus among anti-BJP parties on choosing Gandhi.

As his government completed seven months in office, the JD(S) leader downplayed reports of contradictions within the coalition and said he would overcome all the “bitterness” smoothly.”Both of us (Congress-JD(S)) should go together (in Lok Sabha polls) is our opinion. Because the reason behind forming this government (in Karnataka) is to stop the BJP from coming to power and improve the atmosphere in the country…”

Kumaraswamy said when asked whether the JD(S) would go it alone if seat-sharing talks fail.He said after the formation of the coalition government in the southern state, a lot of changes had taken place in the country’s political landscape, including BJP’s downslide and Congress victory in some bypolls and assembly elections in three states. “…in my opinion, if Congress loses its way and tries to move with overconfidence, what will happen they will understand, with their past political experience, I do not think they will forget them.”They should treat us respectfully. They should not treat us as third-grade citizens. There should be given and take policy,” Kumaraswamy said. The JD(S) has demanded 12 out of 28 seats for the Lok Sabha polls, to which the Congress has expressed its reservations. In the 2014 polls, BJP had won 17 seats in the state, Congress 9 and JD(S) 2 seats.

January 14, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News : Shubman Gill, the 2018 U-19 World Cup hero, earned his maiden India call while all-rounder Vijay Shankar was recalled to replace the suspended duo of K.L. Rahul and Hardik Pandya.

“With K.L. Rahul and Hardik Pandya set to return from Australia, the All-India Senior Selection Committee has decided to send all-rounder Vijay Shankar and batsman Shubman Gill as replacements,” a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) statement said late on Saturday.

The BCCI had earlier suspended and sent Rahul and Pandya back home from Australia after their alleged “sexist” comments in a television chat show.

The second and third ODIs will be played on Tuesday and Friday at Adelaide and Melbourne, respectively.

Sharapova routs Dart in straight sets at Australian Open

January 14, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News :  Former champion Maria Sharapova began her 15th Australian Open with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Harriet Dart in 63 minutes here on Monday.

The No. 30 seed, who has been struggling since her return from a doping ban in 2017, was her ruthless self and powered her game with drive volleys, drop shots and lobs, opening the 2019 Grand Slam season at the Rod Laver Arena, reports Efe news.

The 22-year-old Briton Dart, who described Sharapova as her idol before the match, is 101 places behind her in the rankings and was playing in just her second Grand Slam main draw.

Sharapova had the 2-0 break within seven minutes, and shrugged off a detention for three deuces in the fifth game, and a time violation to hold for 5-0.

Dart got one breakpoint on her serve in the eighth game but Sharapova stormed back soon after.

“It’s been many years since I won the trophy here,” Sharapova said after the match, according to the event’s official website.

“Despite my opponent not having the best day, I still had to get the job done today. I love what I do, I love competing and challenging myself to get better. The youngsters are coming up – but not yet,” she added.

Sharapova will next play against Swede Rebecca Peterson, who beat Sorana Cirstea 6-4, 6-1.
