Patanjali eyes Rs 40 thousand crore turnover in FY 21, aims to be largest FMCG

January 25, 2020 by Nasheman

The company expects to have a turnover of Rs 35,000-Rs 40,000 crore in the next financial year, said Yoga Guru Ramdev.

NEW DELHI: Unfazed by the prolonged economic slowdown, Haridwar-based Patanjali Ayurved aims to be the largest FMCG company in the country, beating market leader Hindustan Unilever’s (HUL) turnover next financial year.

The company expects to have a turnover of Rs 35,000-Rs 40,000 crore in the next financial year, said Yoga Guru Ramdev here on Friday.

“This fiscal, Patanjali along with Ruchi Soya would have a turnover of around Rs 25,000 crore and expects to grow up to around Rs 35,000 crore-Rs 40,000 crore by the next fiscal year (FY21). Our turnover has not reduced — that’s a rumour. We have not lost any market share in any segment,” he added.

The company is expected to register a joint turnover of up to Rs 25,000 crore in the current financial year, in which around Rs 12,000 crore is likely to be contributed by Patanjali group firms and Rs 13,000 crore may come from Ruchi Soya, he noted.

After the acquisition of Ruchi Soya, Baba Ramdev-promoted Patanjali expects a three-fold growth, become a major player in the edible oil category and take a lead in the domestic production of soyabean oil, sunflower oil and palm oil.

Bajaj-Triumph mid-range bikes to be priced under Rs 2 lakh

January 25, 2020 by Nasheman

The bikes developed by the companies will have a starting price under Rs 2 lakh and will challenge the dominance of Royal Enfield in the segment.

NEW DELHI: Homegrown motorcycle maker Bajaj Auto and British Triumph Motorcycles on Friday formally commenced their non-equity partnership. They would build a new engine and vehicle platform in the mid-capacity range (200- 750cc).

The bikes developed by the companies will have a starting price under Rs 2 lakh and will challenge the dominance of Royal Enfield in the segment. At present, Royal Enfield faces almost no competition in the mid-capacity cruiser category and enjoys a solid brand trust among riding community.

“We are confident that there will be a huge appetite in India and other emerging markets for these new products. We look forward to working alongside such a famous motorcycle company and to leveraging each others strengths and expertise to make the relationship a success for everyone,” said Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto India.

Under the partnership, Triumph will further expand its global reach, with the partnership offering a new mid-sized sector opportunity and, importantly, a new entry point to several high-volume emerging markets, including India and other Asian markets.

Bajaj will take over Triumph’s Indian distribution activities, at a date yet to be confirmed. In other key overseas markets, where Triumph is not currently present, Bajaj will represent Triumph and offer the new mid-capacity bikes as part of the full Triumph line-up.

In all other markets where Triumph is present, the motorcycles developed together under this partnership will join the current Triumph product portfolio and be distributed by the Triumph-led dealer network worldwide.

“The products that will come out of the partnership will help attract a younger, but still discerning, customer audience..,” Triumph Motorcycles CEO Nick Bloor said.

BEIJING: China has ordered nationwide measures to identify and immediately isolate suspected cases of a deadly virus on trains, aeroplanes and buses, as the death toll and number of patients has skyrocketed.

Inspection stations will be set up and passengers with suspected pneumonia must be “immediately transported” to a medical centre, the National Health Commission said in a statement. The isolation of suspected cases must be followed by disinfection of the train, plane or bus.

The statement said “all departments of transportation” must “strictly” introduce prevention and control measures including screening measures in airports, railway stations, bus stations and ports. The measures apply across all transportation routes as well as at customs and border inspections.

The National Health Commission said that staff serving passengers must all wear masks. The travel authority must also provide details about those in close contact with the suspected infection case, such as those sitting in the same carriage. The order applies across all provinces and regions.

All areas should formulate “emergency response plans” to the outbreak including training medical staff. The announcement came as the death toll jumped to 41 and the number of cases reached almost 1,300. In Wuhan, the epicentre of the outbreak, the Chinese army deployed 450 medical specialists to overwhelmed hospitals.

Justice John Michael Cunha issued the notice while hearing a criminal petition filed by K Lenin.

B Sriramulu tells HD Kumaraswamy to go to Pakistan

January 25, 2020 by Nasheman

The minister further advised leaders to understand the gravity of any situation before talking to the media.

CHITRADURGA: Health Minister B Sriramulu on Friday launched a broadside on former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy, saying the JDS leader’s “love for Pakistan has increased, and if he wants, he can go and stay there.”

Sriramulu’s statement comes after Kumarswamy had commented, “If Pakistan was not our neighbour, the BJP wouldn’t have got votes and come to power in India.”

Addressing reporters at Bhovi Gurupeetha on the outskirts of the city, he said, “Being a former CM, he shouldn’t have made a statement like that.” On Kumaraswamy demanding a ban on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Bajrang Dal, he said “both are nationalist institutions that are working for the betterment of the country”.

He urged leaders not to make “vague statements” and said India believes in inclusive development, where everyone is treated equally. The minister further advised leaders to understand the gravity of any situation before talking to the media.

Reacting to former CM Siddaramaiah’s statement that the state government was not yet being strong enough, he said the Congress leader was an “unwanted person” in his party and it was better not to take his words seriously.

After 5 months, 2G mobile internet to be restored in Kashmir from Saturday

January 25, 2020 by Nasheman

Restoration of 2G internet facility will continue till January 31 after which it would be reviewed further. Internet and mobile connectivity was snapped on August 5 last year.

Internet;mobile phones

SRINAGAR: After remaining shut for more than five months, 2G mobile internet services on postpaid as well as prepaid phones will be restored in the Kashmir Valley from Saturday but can only be used to access 301 websites approved by the Jammu and Kashmir administration, an official order said.

According to a notification issued by the home department of the Jammu and Kashmir administration, access to the internet with 2G speed on mobile phones will resume from January 25.

Access shall be limited only on whitelisted sites and social media applications will continue to remain out of bounds for the Valley’s residents, it said, adding, data services shall be available on postpaid as well as prepaid sim cards.

The move comes within a week of the administration ordering restoration of prepaid mobile services in the Valley and resumption of 2G mobile data service on whitelisted websites across the Jammu division

The sites approved include search engines and those associated with banking, education, news, travel, utilities and employment.

The latest development comes after the Supreme Court, in a significant ruling on January 10, asked the Jammu and Kashmir administration to review within a week all orders imposing curbs in the Union Territory.

The Supreme Court came down heavily on the UT administration for arbitrarily shutting down the internet, the facility described as a fundamental right by the apex court.

Internet services, landline and mobile phones were snapped across Jammu and Kashmir on the eve of the Centre’s announcement to scrap special status of the erstwhile state and its bifurcation into Union Territories on August 5.

While most of the services except mobile internet were restored in Jammu within a week, Kashmir witnessed restoration of landlines and postpaid mobile services and internet facilities for essential services like hospitals in phases.

BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya under fire for ‘poha eating’ comments

January 25, 2020 by Nasheman

He had said that he suspected some of the workers who were recently engaged in construction work at his house, to be Bangladeshis as they only consumed poha.

NEW DELHI/KOLKATA: BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya’s ‘poha eating Bangladeshi labourers’ comments made in Indore on Thursday has created a political uproar.

While the opposition attacked Vijayvargiya for the comment, even his own party found it indefensible, with Union minister Prakash Javadekar saying, “I also eat poha and serve it to you.

He sought to underplay the comments saying it was a non-issue.

The opposition, however, thought otherwise. The Congress lashed out at Vijayvargiya for connecting food to nationality.

Demanding his apology, party leader Sushmita Dev said the remarks exposed the Modi government’s real intent on NPR and that it had been made deliberately to instil fears in the minds of people and profile them on the basis of food habits.

In West Bengal, ruling Trinamool and the Left alleged the remarks reflected the “racist and communal” mindset of the present BJP dispensation.

Vijayvargiya is the BJP in-charge for Bengal. He had said that he suspected some of the workers who were recently engaged in construction work at his house, to be Bangladeshis as they only consumed poha.
