Sensational murder case of Former BJP corporator Rekha Kadiresh cracked within 24 hours,Two arrested after shot at on their leg

The Special team of West Division police has solved the sensational murder case of Former BJP corporator Rekha Kadiresh within 24 hours and arrested two persons after opening fire at them.

The accused has been identified as,Peter,46,and Surya,20.

The two accused are involved in several cases,Peter is involved in 6 cases,such as,3 murder cases,1 attempt to assault and 2 dacoity cases.

Where as Surya is involved in 4 cases,such as,2 Murder cases,and 2 attempt to murder cases.

The two accused after commiting the crime were hiding near Shanimahatma Temple near Summanahalli Junction near Park they were doing party.

The arrested two Peter and Surya sustained injuries in their legs.The police shot them for resisting arrest and attacking the lawmen with sharp weapons.

Chief Minister B.S.Yediyurappa had assured on Thursday that the assailants will be nabbed within 24 hours.

City police commissioner,Kamal Pant told media persons,firstly I congratulate the special team of DCP West,Dr Sanjeev M Patil and his team who has worked relentlessly without sleeping whole night from yesterday in cracking the case.

The Former BJP corporator Rekha Kadiresh (46) was hacked to death in broad daylight near to her office in flower garden under cottonpet police station limits.

As soon as the murder incident was reported Addl CP East,S Murugan along with DCP West,Dr Sanjeev M Patil,with other senior officers and additional police force were call in for the precautionary measures and security was heightened in the area.

After inspecting the spot and collecting all the information from the police team four special teams were formed to nab the assailants who has brutally murdered the former Corporator Rekha Kadiresh by stabbing her on the neck the assailants stabbed her more than 17 times in the broad daylight.

As the assailants well pre planned and used their criminal mind and turned away the CCTV cameras installed near to her office.

Four special teams were formed under the supervision of DCP West,Dr Sanjeev M Patil,after getting clues about the assailants the team swung into action.

The teams pressed into action one team was busy in collecting information from the neighbouring areas about the enemity between the former Corporator if any.

Another team was busy in collaborating the CCTV footage in the vicinity the team after collaboration of CCTV footage started analysing the CCTV footage and got a clue of the assailants.

Another team was busy in gathering information the family members what could be the reason to murder the former Corporator whom they suspect.

Another team was busy in tracking the accused through technical inputs and other technology skills of investigation and after collecting information from the informants the team traced the accused.

A special team headed by PIs,as,CB Shivaswamy, Kumaraswamy BG and their team rushed to the spot to nab the assailants who were hiding in a park near Shanimahatma Temple Summanahalli Junction under kamakshipalya police station limits.

As the team spotted the accused Sub inspector and constable went to secure them as they spotted the police the duo attacked the police personnel with sharp weapons and tried to flee by attacking the team.

The police inspectors,as,BG Kumaraswamy and CB Shivaswamy who were at spot immediately took their service revolver and opened one round fire in air and asked the duo to surrender as the accused dint heed to the warning and again tried attacking the inspectors with dagger.

The inspectors opened fire on both the accused in self defense and both the accused sustained bullet injuries in their leg and were arrested after shot at.Both the accused and injured police personnel are undergoing treatment at a hospital.

He even said we have information about other people involved in the murder and would catch them soon.

The accused had been trusted associates of Kadiresh for several years now,Pant said.Police said directions of CCTV cameras outside the BJP office where Rekha was attacked were altered as turned away by the culprits before the crime.

The complainant in the case Sanjay,nephew of the deceased and one of the first responders after the attack on her,identified Peter and Surya as the assailants based on what Ms.Kadiresh reportedly told him.

Both Peter and Surya,were close associates of Kadiresh,who met a similar fate in 2018.Both had rowdy sheets against them.

They have footage showing Peter and Surya attacking the Former BJP corporator with the lethal weapon they stabbed her nearly 17 times and fleeing from the scene and Stephen was also seen in the crime scene.

sources said Stephen was a relative of Kadiresh helping them flee.Senior police officers said that the team of assailants were five in number and search was on for the other three,who have also been identified.

We are yet to unravel the entire conspiracy behind the murder and only the interrogation of the duo would reveal that he said.

Rekha”s husband Kadiresh was murdered in 2018.He was stabbed to death by two youth on February 7, 2018.His killers had later surrendered before a city court.

A case has been registered in cottonpet police station and further investigation is on.

Covid-19: England reports 35,204 more Delta variant cases, investigates new Lambda variant

LONDON: The number of Delta variant cases of COVID-19 in the UK have risen by 35,204 since last week to a total of 111,157, representing a 46 per cent increase, health officials said in the weekly report released on Friday.

Public Health England (PHE) said of the total Delta variant of concern (VOC) – first identified in India – 42 belong to the Delta AY.

1 sub lineage, dubbed as Delta plus in some quarters over fears of its even greater transmissibility.

While the Delta variant now accounts for approximately 95 per cent of cases that are sequenced across the UK, PHE said the both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine continue to provide good protection against hospitalisations.

“Through the success of our vaccination programme, data suggest we have begun to break the link between cases and hospitalisations,” said Dr Jenny Harries, Chief Executive of the UK Health Security Agency.

“This is hugely encouraging news, but we cannot become complacent. Two doses of vaccine are far more effective against COVID-19 than a single dose, so please make sure that you come forward to get your second dose as soon as you are invited,” she said.

“Whilst vaccines provide excellent protection, they do not provide total protection, so it is still as important as ever that we continue to exercise caution,” she added.

Meanwhile, PHE said it added another variant, Lambda (C.37) to its list of variants under investigation (VUI) on Wednesday due to international expansion and several notable mutations, including L452Q and F490S.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) classified Lambda as a “Variant of Interest” on June 14.

Six cases of Lambda have been identified across the country to date, all have been linked to overseas travel.

The earliest documented sample was reported in Peru and Lambda has been sequenced in 26 countries to date.

According to UK health officials, there is currently no evidence that this variant causes more severe disease or renders the vaccines currently deployed any less effective.

But PHE said it is carrying out laboratory testing to better understand the impact of mutations on the behaviour of the virus.

The latest figures show that an additional 514 people were admitted to hospital in England with a diagnosis of COVID-19 in the week up to June 21 and of these 304 were unvaccinated, coinciding with the health service messaging in favour of vaccinations.

There have now been a total of 117 deaths in England of people confirmed as having the Delta variant – eight of which were people under the age of 50.

Six of these eight people were unvaccinated, while two died after more than 21 days of receiving a first dose of a coronavirus vaccine.

Dawood Ibrahim’s brother Iqbal Kaskar gets one-day NCB custody in drugs case

THANE/ MUMBAI: A court at Bhiwandi in Maharashtra’s Thane district has remanded Iqbal Kaskar, brother of fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, in the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) custody for one day in a drugs case.

Magistrate MM Mali on Friday remanded Kaskar in the anti-drugs agency’s custody. Kaskar’s alleged involvement in the case surfaced following the recent seizure of 27 kg of hashish. “The NCB officials had sought his custody for examination in the case,” an official has said.

The NCB had recently arrested seven persons in two cases in which 27 kg hashish was recovered. During investigation, it came to light that the narcotics drug was sourced from Jammu and Kashmir. Also, the alleged role of Kaskar, lodged in a Thane jail, surfaced in the case, following which his custody was sought.

“On perusal of the remand report and case diary, it appears that the case is of serious nature triable by special court. Hence, sufficient opportunity of investigation is required,” the magistrate said, while handing over his custody to the NCB.

In 2017, the Anti-Extortion Cell of the Thane police had arrested Kaskar in connection with an extortion case.

He had been deported from the United Arab Emirates in 2003. Kaskar was said to be operating his brother’s real estate business in Mumbai. The Thane police had earlier booked him under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime (MCOCA) Act.

Delta-plus Covid variant under control for now in Karnataka: BSY

BENGALURU: Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Friday said that the new Delta-plus variant of Covid-19 is under control for now in the state. Yediyurappa, who convened a meeting of officials and ministers on Friday evening to assess the pandemic situation in Karnataka, stressed that more vigil must be exercised at the Maharashtra and Kerala borders. Currently, there is no restriction or prohibition on inter-state travel, but the CM has asked officials to closely monitor and test those arriving in Karnataka from these two states.

Weddings allowed, but with 40 invitees only

The government on Friday issued orders on further relaxations for weddings and related gatherings in the state. Starting Monday, weddings will be allowed at hotels, party halls or resorts, but with a cap of 40 persons. “Those organising marriages shall obtain prior permission from the authority concerned, i.e., Joint Commissioner of the BBMP Zone in BBMP area or tahsildar concerned at the taluks. The officer shall issue 40 passes per marriage function by name. Only people with passes shall be allowed to attend the marriage function and passes shall not be transferable,” said the order. Those organising weddings as well as owners of wedding halls will be liable for action as per the Kamataka Epidemic Diseases Act 2020, Disaster Management Act, 2005, if Covid-19 protocols and guidelines are not  followed.

No need to panic about new Covid variant: Sudhakar

BENGALURU: Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar on Friday said that there was no need to panic about the Delta-plus variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. “There are two cases of the new variant — one in Bengaluru and the other in Mysuru, both with mild symptoms. The Mysuru patient has completely recovered,” he told reporters.

Further, with a surge in cases in Kerala (where the positivity rate is more than 10 per cent), more tests will be conducted in the border areas. “We have instructed the district administrations to conduct more tests on the border… it is not appropriate to seal the border. We need to be cautious at bus stands and railway stations,” the minister said.

Meanwhile, regarding the treatment protocol, Dr Ravindra Mehta, senior consultant and HoD, Pulmonology and Interventional Pulmonology, Apollo Speciality Hospitals, said, “So far, there is no change in the treatment protocol. It is known that for the Delta variants, monoclonal antibody cocktail works. However, this was known only during the end of the second wave and not tried on many. Going by this, it can be used to tackle the Delta-plus variant also.” 

Bangladesh announces strict countrywide shutdown to check spread of COVID-19

DHAKA: Bangladesh on Friday announced a strict countrywide shutdown until further notice to check the spread of COVID-19, as it reported 108 deaths from coronavirus, the second highest single-day toll since the pandemic’s outbreak in the country.

“Other than emergency services, all government and private offices will remain closed. No one will be allowed to go out of home without urgent reasons,” an official order said.

Only goods-laden and emergency vehicles will be allowed to operate during the lockdown, it said.

The death toll due to COVID-19 reached 13,976 while the total number of positive cases touched 8,78,804 with 5,869 new cases in the last 24 hours, according to the latest data by the Health Ministry.

The country recorded the highest 112 deaths on April 19 this year.

The health authorities’ report came hours after the Public Administration Ministry said they awaited a government decision to enforce a two-week long nationwide shutdown in line with the National Technical Advisory Committee (NTAC) on COVID-19.

“We are ready to enforce the shutdown anytime. It (enforcement) will be tougher than that of last year,” Junior Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain told reporters.

NTAC said they have recommended a “strict countrywide lockdown” when no offices other than emergency services would operate as their experts were convinced that the worsening situation could not be controlled without a nationwide shutdown.

Bangladesh is experiencing an increase in the COVID-19 infection rate, with the latest report of the World Health Organisation (WHO) noting that out of the country’s 64 administrative districts 43 were at “very high risk” while 15 others, including Dhaka, were at “high risk”.

Health officials said the Delta variant of the coronavirus has spread to Dhaka, mounting pressure on health facilities here.

The northern and southwestern regions bordering India have also reported cases of Delta variant.

Authorities last week ordered a lockdown in seven central districts surrounding Dhaka in an effort to isolate the capital from the rest of the country to prevent community transmission in view of rising infection cases in bordering regions.

But experts said the Delta variant made its way to the capital through community transmission and the doctors said the number of COVID-19 patients was increasing every day at hospitals.

The country’s biggest state-run health facility, Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), said 80 per cent of their COVID-19 patients were residents of the capital city and the number is increasing every day.

“The number of COVID-19 patients is increasing everyday at DMCH and 80 per cent of them are residents of Dhaka city. This means infection rate is increasing in the capital,” DMCH Director Brigadier General Md Nazmul Haque told the state-run BSS news agency.

Haque said the current number of COVID-19 patients in DMCH was nearly four times higher than that of last month and feared if this trend continued “all general and ICU beds in the city will be fulfilled within 10 to 12 days”.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital reported a nearly identical picture with its additional director Nazmul Karim Manik saying pressure (of coronavirus patients) is mounting gradually and most of them are from Dhaka.

Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) Director Prof Dr Tahmina Shirin said districts bordering India are more exposed to the Delta variant compared to Dhaka.

“The Delta variant is largely responsible for the recent spike of the coronavirus cases. We must check people’s movement in border districts to contain the community transmission,” Shirin said.

DGHS officials said the situation in districts with borders with India particularly in southwestern Khulna region continued to worsen and at places the COVID-19 positivity rate were found to be 100 per cent.

Expand Congress’ base without hurting Maharashtra government: Central leadership to Nana Patole

MUMBAI: Amid Congress’ worsening ties with the Shiv Sena, the party’s Maharashtra unit chief Nana Patole was asked by the central leadership on Friday to refrain from making controversial statements that could land the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in trouble, especially at a time when there’s a strong buzz of the Sena turning soft towards the BJP. 

He had announced that the Congress would be going solo in future elections, prompting Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray to lash out at the party. “The party leadership has asked Patole to expand the party base without hurting the incumbent government. The Congress wants the MVA to last its full five-year term. It does not want to lose a resourceful state like Maharashtra at this juncture when the party is struggling to float. It is in power in Punjab, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, but these states cannot be compared with Maharashtra,” said a highly placed source.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leaders in the state are also unhappy with Maharashtra in-charge HK Patil for interfering in district-level appointments for party posts. “If he wants to do anything, he should convey a message through the state president or another senior state functionary. Patil recently sent a voice mail to all district units asking them to submit three names each for district president. It’s not his call to appoint Congress district presidents; it is the right of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee. Patil is overstepping his brief,” said a source.

Several complaint letters have gone to Congress president Sonia Gandhi seeking Patil’s replacement, the source added.

India achieves milestone of conducting 40 crore COVID-19 tests: ICMR

NEW DELHI: India has achieved the milestone of conducting 40 crore COVID-19 tests, with the average of more than 18 lakh tests per day in the month of June, the ICMR said on Saturday. India has tested 40,18,11,892 samples across the country till Friday, it said.

Prof Balram Bhargava, Director General, ICMR said exponential increase in testing has led to early identification, prompt isolation and effective treatment of COVID-19 cases. These have eventually resulted in a sustained low fatality rate.

“This testing milestone is testimony to the fact that India has been successful in implementing the strategy of 5T approach ‘Test, Track, Trace, Treat and use of Technology’ efficiently, which will enable us to contain the spread of the pandemic,” the statement quoted Bhargava as saying.

Fake IAS officer duped people of lakhs of rupees: Kolkata police on vaccine scam

KOLKATA: Arrested fake IAS officer Debanjan Deb has been impersonating as a joint commissioner of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) for the last four months and has duped a few people of several lakhs of rupees on the pretext of helping them get tenders of the civic body, a Kolkata Police officer said after initial probe.

Deb, who lied to his family about becoming an IAS officer, might have used that money to organise fake Covid-19 vaccination camps, pay salary to his employees and rent for the office, the officer said on Friday

The 28-year-old man came in contact with several police officers and political leaders while participating in various programmes organised for social causes, the IPS officer said adding that four persons were called for questioning as part of the investigation.

“Deb was an IAS aspirant but could not crack the UPSC examinations. In 2018, he told his father and relatives that he passed the tests and became an IAS officer,” he said.

Deb told interrogators that he started a business of selling sanitiser, masks and PPE kits last year and made a “good profit” but at that time he did not identify himself as a KMC joint commissioner.

“But slowly, when people started approaching him for help in Covid-19 related needs, Deb promised them assistance as an official and started going around identifying himself as a joint commissioner of the KMC. He fell into his own trap,” the officer said.

He hired a vehicle, recruited men and rented an office in Kasba area of the city, the cop said.

In the process, he came in contact with a few contractors and sub-contractors of the KMC and allegedly cheated two persons.

One of them filed a police complaint alleging that Deb had taken Rs 10 lakh from him promising him to get a tender of the KMC.

Another person has also approached the sleuths of Kolkata Police claiming that Deb had taken Rs 90 lakh from him, out of which Rs 36 lakh was transferred to a bank account, for getting a tender of the KMC to construct a stadium, the police officer said.

“He might have used the money to run these camps as well as pay salary to the people he had recruited and rent for the office,” the IPS officer said.

However, the probe is still at a very preliminary stage, he said.

“There is not much money left in the accounts about which Deb has told us. Our officers at the anti-bank fraud unit are using his PAN card details to check whether he has any other bank accounts or not. We have also asked the banks to provide details of all transactions he had through these accounts,” he said.

Deb had claimed of organising a “khichri” distribution camp in Behala with the help of a local club and the police have started verifying it.

The items seized from Deb’s office included pads having fake logos of the KMC and the West Bengal government.

“We have found from his office several letters written by him to secretaries of various departments. It seems that he wrote them to influence people but never dispatched them. We are verifying the matter with the respective persons,” the police officer said.

The Kolkata Police on Friday constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the fake vaccination drive.

Deb held two camps in the city where thousands of people were suspected to have been inoculated.

The police arrested Deb on Wednesday for allegedly posing as an IAS officer and organising a COVID-19 vaccination camp in Kasba area, where actor and Trinamool Congress MP Mimi Chakraborty had also got her jab.

Chakraborty, who was invited to attend the camp, said she became suspicious about the vaccination process as she did not receive the customary SMS that is sent to people after they are administered a dose, and informed the police.

“At the camp held in a college, 72 people have been inoculated. We are trying to find out how many were vaccinated in Kasba,” the officer said.

Deb got labels of Covishield printed from somewhere in Sealdah area of the city, he added.

The fake labels were found pasted on several vials of an antibiotic injection used for a number of bacterial infections.
