The observation by the court came over some news items doing the rounds on social media regarding the death of COVID-19 patients due to lack of oxygen in Lucknow and Meerut districts.
The court also ordered a probe into the incidents.

‘Criminal act, not less than genocide Allahabad HC on COVID deaths due to non supply of oxygen
ALLAHABAD: The death of COVID-19 patients due to non supplying of oxygen is a “criminal act and not less than a “genocide”, said that the Allahabad High Court on Tuesday amid reports of shortage of medical oxygen due to rise in COVID-19 infections.
The High Court observed that stories of hoarding of oxygen cylinders and harassment meted out to those poor citizens who were begging for an oxygen cylinder to save the life of their near and dear ones, both at the end of district administration and police administration are being viralled in social media.
“The news was also viralled that five patients had died in ICU of a new trauma centre of Medical College, Meerut on Sunday last. Similarly, news were also being viralled that one Sun Hospital, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow and another private hospital at Meerut had taken their hands off the admitted Covid patients only for the reason that oxygen supply was not made even after demand. We find these news items showing a quite contrary picture to one claimed by the Government that there was sufficient supply of oxygen,” it pointed out.
The High Court further said that the current state of affairs about the management of an online portal created by the Government today casts a shadow upon COVID-19 Hospital Management.
As per the union health minister, there are currently 2,85,832 active cases in Uttar Pradesh. A total of 10,43,134 recoveries and 13,447 deaths have been reported in the state so far.

India’s services sector activities eased to 3-month low in April amid COVID crisis
India’s services sector activities eased to a three-month low in April, as the rise in business activity was constrained by the pandemic and sentiment towards growth prospects faded, a monthly survey said on Wednesday.
“The PMI results for April showed a more resilient economic performance for the service sector than expected given the escalation of the COVID-19 crisis in India,” said Pollyanna De Lima, Economics Associate Director at IHS Markit.
Lima further noted that firms foresee higher output volumes over the course of the coming year, but business sentiment was dampened by worries surrounding the pandemic.
As per the survey, Indian services firms were optimistic regarding the 12-month outlook for business activity, but the overall level of positive sentiment fell to the lowest since last October.
The escalation of the pandemic was the main drag on confidence. On the prices front, service providers noted the steepest rise in overall expenses since December 2011.
Some firms lifted their selling prices in April amid the pass through of rising cost burdens to clients, but 98 per cent of companies left fees unchanged due to efforts to secure new work and remain competitive.
“One area of concern was inflation. Services firms noted the steepest rise in overall expenses in over nine years as global shortages of inputs and higher transportation costs continued to exert upward pressure on outlays,” Lima said.
On the jobs front, payroll numbers fell for the fifth month in a row in April, albeit at a slight pace that was the weakest since January.
The vast majority of panelists kept headcounts unchanged amid reports of sufficient capacity to cope with current workloads, the survey said.
Moreover, travel restrictions and the COVID-19 crisis continued to curb international demand for Indian services.
New export orders declined for the 14th month running and at a quicker pace than registered in March, the survey said. Meanwhile, growth of Indian private sector activity eased to the weakest in 2021 so far.
The Composite PMI Output Index, which measures combined services and manufacturing output, fell from 56.0 in March to 55.4 due to slower increases at goods producers and service providers.
“The upturn was generally curtailed by the escalation of the COVID-19 crisis,” the survey said. Meanwhile, Governor Shaktikanta Das said that RBI will continue to monitor the situation from the resurgence of COVID-19 cases and will deploy all resources.
“We have to marshal our resources for fighting the virus with vigour,” he said. The governor also announced Rs 50,000 crore priority lending by banks for hospitals and oxygen suppliers, among others by March 31, 2022.
New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern plans to marry over the summer
WELLINGTON: New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern plans to marry her longtime partner during the southern summer.
In an interview Wednesday on the Coast radio breakfast show, Ardern said she and Clarke Gayford have finally set a date for their wedding after announcing they were engaged two years ago.
But Ardern wouldn’t be drawn on the exact day other than to say it would be during the Southern Hemisphere summer, which runs from December through February.
“When I say we’ve got a date, that doesn’t mean we’ve actually told anyone yet,” Ardern said on the show.
“So, I feel like we should probably put some invites out.”
Ardern and Gayford have a 2-year-old daughter, Neve. Ardern in 2018 became just the second elected world leader in modern history to give birth while holding office.
Gayford is Neve’s primary caregiver and a presenter on a TV fishing show.
Ardern was asked on the show if she was going to be modern and have a bridesman at her wedding rather than the more traditional bridesmaid.
“I feel a bit too old to have a bridal party,” said Ardern, who is 40.
“I don’t know if it’s just me, but for some reason I just feel like there are some things that, because I’m getting on a bit, I just need to forego.”
Ardern had previously joked about the awkwardness of Gayford’s proposal atop a hill in the coastal town of Mahia.
What was supposed to be a romantic moment was gate-crashed by a police protection officer, some locals, and a couple of dogs that tried to eat the chocolate Gayford had brought with him, she said at the time.
The Coast radio interview offered a chance for some lighter and more personal discussion than Ardern’s typical political interviews.
The hosts also asked if Ardern had plans for Mother’s Day on Sunday.
“I know of none, except for the fact that I said something to Clarke about it yesterday, and there was a long pause. He said, When is it?’,” Ardern said.
“And so, I’m not expecting much.”
