MP: Administration starts demolition of illegal constructions of “stone pelters”

April 12, 2022 by Nasheman

Khargone (MP): The district administration on Monday started demolition of at least 50 “illegal” structures of people accused of pelting stones at a Ram Navami procession in Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone city, while the state government said damage caused to public and private properties during the violence will be recovered from rioters.

A curfew was clamped in Khargone city on Sunday and more than 80 people have been arrested after stones hurled at a Ram Navami procession triggered large-scale arson, officials said and added that the situation here was under control.

The government has a zero tolerance policy for rioting. So far, 84 persons have been arrested and 50 illegal constructions of these accused have been identified. The demolition of these illegal constructions has already started, Indore Divisional Commissioner Pawan Sharma told reporters in Khargone.

The illegal structures which are being demolished include homes and shops.

Action has also been taken against four state government employees for spreading rumours over the communal violence in the city, he said.

Of the four, three were daily wage employees, whose services were terminated, while the fourth staffer was suspended, the IAS officer said.

Sharma said damage caused to public and private properties during the violence will be recovered from rioters. Inspector General (IG) Rakesh Gupta, who is camping in Khargone along with Sharma, said the law and order situation in the city was under control and action against anti-social elements was continuing.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said damage caused to public and private properties will be recovered from rioters as he vowed strict action against the miscreants.

“The rioters have been identified and they will not be spared. Strict action will be taken against them. There is no place for rioters in Madhya Pradesh,” the CM said.

“We have passed the Damage to Public and Private Property Recovery Act. We are constituting a claims tribunal under the Act and after assessing the loss, its recovery will be done from rioters,” Chouhan said in a statement.

Speaking about the violence earlier in the day, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra said houses from where stones were hurled at the procession will be turned into rubble.

Some people who are hurt by the outcome of the recently-held Assembly elections in five states are now instigating violence, the minister claimed.

They want to disturb peace in the state and the country. Even from these (Assembly poll) results, such people have not understood what the country wants, Mishra said.

Rename Sultanpur as Kushbhawanpur, BJP MLA writes to Adityanath

Rename Sultanpur as Kushbhawanpur, BJP MLA writes to Adityanath

Sultanpur (UP): A BJP MLA has written to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, demanding that Sultanpur be renamed as Kushbhawanpur after Lord Ram’s son.

In the previous term of the Adityanath government, Sultanpur’s Lambhua MLA Devmani Dwivedi had made a similar demand.

Sultanpur is the Lok Sabha constituency of BJP leader Maneka Gandhi.

Sultanpur MLA Vinod Singh in his letter to the CM on April 7 wrote that the area falls between Ayodhya and Prayagraj, and has many religious places like Dhopap, Makarikund, Sitakund Ghat and Vijethua Mahabiran.

These places stress the belief that Kush, a son of Lord Ram, developed it as his capital by the name of Kushabhavanpur, he said.

“Later Khilji Badshah named it as Sultanpur for promoting his culture. Many a time people have agitated for renaming it as Kushbhawanpur and have also given memorandums,” he said.

Vinod Singh said the issue was raised in a public meeting during the Assembly elections and people’s response to it was positive.

The Adityanath government in its previous term had renamed Allahabad as Prayagraj, Faizabad as Ayodhya and Mughalsarai junction station as Pandit Deendayal Upadhaya.

Durham to speak to head coach James Franklin over Yuzvendra Chahal allegations

New Delhi: County side Durham has said they will speak to head coach James Franklin “privately” over the physical harassment allegations made by Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal against the former New Zealand pacer.

Earlier this year, in a podcast published by Royal Challengers Bangalore, Chahal had recalled an incident from 2011 when his then Mumbai Indians teammates Franklin and Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds had allegedly tied him up while celebrating their win in the Champions League final that year.

“We are aware of recent news reports surrounding an incident in 2011 which name a member of our staff,” Durham said in a statement to ‘ESPNcricinfo’.

“As with any matters involving employees, the club will speak privately with all parties involved to determine the facts.”

Chahal also alleged that the duo had taped his mouth, left him in a room and forgot about him for a whole night.

Franklin, who was part of Mumbai Indians squad from 2011 to 2013, was appointed Durham coach in early 2019.

“It happened in 2011, when Mumbai Indians won the Champions League. We were in Chennai. He [Symonds] had had a lot of ‘fruit juice’.

“I don’t know what he was thinking, but he and James Franklin got together and tied my hands and legs and said, ‘no, you’ve to open’. They were so lost that they taped my mouth and forgot about me completely during the party.

“Then they all left and, in the morning, someone came to clean [the room] and saw me, and called a few others and untied me,” Chahal claimed.

According to Chahal, neither player has ever apologised.

The allegations against Franklin and Symonds have come to the fore after the leg-spinner revealed another shocking incident when a drunk player dangled him from the 15th-floor balcony of a Bengaluru hotel during a post-match IPL party in 2013.

Telangana CM KCR gives 24-hour deadline to PM Modi over paddy issue
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao

New Delhi: Stepping up protest against the Centre’s paddy procurement policy, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Monday gave 24 hours deadline to the Modi-government to respond if it will buy parboiled rice from the state.

If the central government fails to respond, Rao threatened to take the protest across the country.

Staging a dharna along with his TRS party leaders at Telangana Bhawan here, Rao warned Prime Minister Narendra Modi, “Don’t play with the sentiments of our farmers, they have power to topple the government.”

Farmers are not beggars, they have the right to seek minimum support price (MSP) for their produce, he said.

“With folded hands, I urge Modiji and (Piyush) Goyal ji to respond to the state’s demand on paddy procurement within 24 hours. After that, we will take a call,” Rao said.

Rao said if the Centre does not respond, he would further intensify the protest across the country.

Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait also expressed solidarity with the chief minister Rao at the day-long dharna here.

This is the Telangana Rashtra Samithi’s first protest rally in Delhi after coming to power in the state in 2014. The party MPs, MLCs, MLAs, and entire cabinet ministers sat on the dharna.

The TRS has intensified the protest and reached Delhi after the Central government refused Telangana’s request to buy parboiled rice in the current rabi season.

The Centre is saying that it can procure only raw rice and not the parboiled ones which are not consumed largely in India.

Former Pak PM Nawaz Sharif’s brother Shehbaz Sharif elected new PM of Pakistan

April 12, 2022 by Nasheman

Islamabad: Shehbaz Sharif, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president, was elected unopposed as the new Prime Minister of Pakistan by Parliament on Monday after rival candidate Shah Mahmood Qureshi announced that his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party will boycott the voting and staged a walkout.

Shehbaz, 70, was the only candidate left in the race after Qureshi’s boycott of the election in the National Assembly.

In the House of 342, the winning candidate should get support of at least 172 lawmakers.

Shehbaz, the younger brother of former three-time prime minister Nawaz Sharif, received 174 votes – two more than the simple majority of 172.

He is the 23rd prime minister of Pakistan.

He has served as chief minister of the country’s most populous and politically crucial Punjab province thrice.

Former president and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chair Asif Ali Zardari had proposed Shehbaz’s name for prime minister’s position in a joint opposition’s meeting to replace Imran Khan through a no-confidence motion.

The process of electing the new leader of the House began on Sunday after prime minister Imran Khan was removed from office through the no-confidence vote, becoming the first premier in the country’s history to be sent home after losing the trust of the House.

Pakistan has struggled with political instability since its formation in 1947 with multiple regime changes and military coups. No prime minister has ever completed a full five-year term.

Bengaluru: Mandya MP and BJP leader Sumalatha Ambareesh on Monday reacted to the demands of several BJP leaders for an investigation against Mandya’s student Muskan Khan who allegedly received praises from Al-Qaeda leader for her heroics against the Hindutva goons when they confronted her at college campus earlier in February this year.

Ambareesh said it was not wrong to demand and conduct an investigation against Khan.

“With the investigation, the authenticity of the video of the leader of Al-Qaeda can be ascertained,” She said adding that the situation in Mandya and the state were peaceful and people should refrain from giving political statements that can affect the peace and harmony.

Karnataka CM drops hint on banning PFI, SDPI, other organisations; here’s what he said

April 12, 2022 by Nasheman

Udupi: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday while replying to a question posed by reporters in Udupi reacted to the reports of a ban on several organisations in the state.

Speaking to reporters during his official visit to Udupi on Monday, reporters questioned the CM about the allegation of the opposition parties that the government has remained silent on the recent hate-inciting incidents in the state.

Replying to the question, the CM said “We know how to handle and manage the situation, and we will do it accordingly. We don’t have to learn anything from those in opposition.”

He further added “When their government was in power, they dropped cases against several organisations which were involved in the killing of Hindu youths. Where was their sense of duty then?”

On a prompted question by reporters, if those organisations will be banned by his government, the CM replied “You will see it for yourself in coming days.”

Although the CM did not specifically name any organisations during his interaction with the media reporters, right-wing Hindutva groups and BJP have repeatedly alleged that the organisations like PFI, SDPI, and others were involved in the killings of Hindu activists and youths in the state.

MP Ananth Kumar Hegde

Bengaluru: MP Ananth Kumar Hegde has reportedly written a letter to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai asking for an investigation against Mandya’s student named Muskan. During the Hijab controversy in the state, saffron-clad youngsters had surrounded the student in question at Mandya’s college campus to which she had stood her ground. In his letter, the MP has claimed that Muskan had received praises from the leader of Al-Qaeda, and sought an investigation against her in this regard.

“I have no idea about who the leader of the Al-Qaeda even is, I came to know that he has praised my daughter through the news channels. We do not need praises from people from other countries”, Muskan’s father Hussain told the media.

Now, MP Ananth Kumar Hegde has demanded that “Regarding the Hijab issue, the student must be investigated to see if she has involvement with unseen hands and banned organizations”, the MP said.
