Naanu Hindu Ramaiah’ book released,Veteran journalist P Ramaiah,a Tapsavi of journalism; CM Bommai

November 7, 2022 by Nasheman

Parmesh S Jain

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said for a veteran journalist,P.Ramaiah, truth has been his ideal and ideology, and he is a ‘Tapasvi’ in the field of journalism.

He was speaking after releasing ‘Nanu Hindu Ramaiah’, a work on the experience of Ramaiah and published by Abhimani Prakashana at Gandhi Bhavan here on Thursday,he said Ramaiah is an honest scribe and he has told truth lovingly but still there is lot of information in him which he has has told anywhere. This shows his courtesy.

He has been a witness to many incidents that had taken place in the State and has seen the second generation of politicians and third generation of journalists.

He could have sensationalized it to bag an award but what he has written is only reality. He is a true journalist.

Many will feel sad if truth is written but everyone will take it sportingly if constructive criticism is made.

“Thinking and personality of some people will change but the personality of Ramaiah has remained the same.

He is close to several chief ministers.Earlier,we were calling the scribes as poor journalists but now that word is not used as time has changed”.

A clean hand journalist

The CM said Ramaiah is a clean hand journalist. Reporters and journalists are not the same, but journalists and news producers are different. Ramaiah’s personality is very unique.

They will be innocent in childhood but change as they grow. But Ramaiah’s innocence has not changed even today because he always works by conscience.

He might have faced several challenges but he has never compromised when writing truth and reality.

My father,Ramakrishna Hegde and M.P.Prakash had a good friendship with Ramaiah, and I have grown listening to them.It is very important for journalists to understand the limits and effects of his writing.

Ramaiah was l closely associated with The Hindu newspaper for a long time. That newspaper is known for its values and has played a lead role in pre and post independence era.

The articles written by Ramaiah on irrigation and energy are still preserved for its treasure of information.

Ramaiah is an asset of Karnataka and we need to learn many things from his writing. He has always worked for society and his book showcases the contemporary politics, life of people and social scenario.

This book will inspire the students. Let Ramaiah continue to guide politicians and journalists”.

Gandhi Memorial President Wooday P Krishna, journalist P.Ramaiah,Abhimani Prakashana Chief T.Venkatesh,Senior journalist Hunasawadi Rajan, Madhyama Academy Chairman Sadashiv Shenoy, KUWJ President Shivanand Tagadur, Bangalore Press Club President Sridhar and retired Joint Director of Department of Information H.B.Dinesh and others were present.

Parmesh S Jain

The FMCG which is being established in twin cities of Hubballi-Dharwad at a cost of Rs.1200 crore, will have all facilities for industrial development after Bengaluru, and provide employment of lakhs of people. This is going to be a model in the entire South India, said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

Speaking after inaugurating the FMCG Cluster Hubballi Investors meet organised jointly Department of Industries and Commerce,District Administration and FICCI here on Friday,he said economy means labor and there will be no poverty where there is labour.

The area will see development if there are industries to provide jobs.

A nation will grow if the economy and the social values grow. The state government is taking all steps for the all-round development of Karnataka.

Four Special Investors Area in State

He said a draft of Special Investors Region (SIR) for setting up four places in the State including Dharwad is ready and it will be approved in the next Cabinet meeting.

The State has been in forefront in many sectors, and of the total 500 R&D Labs,400 labs are in karnataka.

The revision of R&D Policy is underway. The Employment policy has been implemented keeping the youths in view.Changes will be brought in all fields from time to time.

100 acres for Startups between twin cities
Bommai said for the sake of Startups, one hundred acres of land between Hubballi and Dharwad cities will be identified.

For the first time in the country, Employment, Semiconductor and R&D Policy have been framed by Karnataka, and all these will help in improving the living standard of common people.

If FMCG proves success, it will help in development of not only this region but also will contribute to the nation’s progress.

Even the service sector has been given due importance by keeping in mind the growth of the agriculture field.Increase in providing services helps in creating jobs. In democracy, political will is very important as it will alone help in continuous development.

Along with education, employment opportunities must be available in the North karnataka region. Industries that will provide more jobs are the need of the hour. But at the same time, skill development is a must for the youths.

A conducive atmosphere for job creation must be created. Such efforts in the last two to three decades have yielded results.

Our government has taken several measures in this regard. One thousand acres of land are identified in Belagavi, Dharwad,Haveri,Davangere and Chitradurga for setting up of the Special Industrial Township in each district as part of Mumbai-Chennai Corridor Development. 50 million doses of Covaxin set to expire in early 2023 due to poor demand

By PTI

HYDERABAD: Nearly 50 million doses of Bharat Biotech’s COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin lying with the firm are set to expire early next year as there are no takers owing to poor demand, company sources said.

Due to lack of product demand, production stoppage of Covaxin- a two dose jab, was initiated by Bharat Biotech earlier this year, though the vaccine maker has established manufacturing to reach an annualised capacity of 1 billion doses at the end of 2021.

“Bharat Biotech has more than 200 million doses of Covaxin in bulk form and approximately 50 million doses in vials ready to use. Due to lack of product demand, production stoppage of Covaxin was initiated several months ago, earlier this year,” sources told PTI.

“Covaxin doses in vials are set to expire during early 2023, resulting in losses for the company,” sources further said.

However, the quantum of loss that the Bharat Biotech would incur in the event of all the 50 million doses expiring next year is not known.

India reported 1,082 fresh COVID-19 cases on Saturday, while the number of active cases declined to 15,200, according to Union health ministry data.

So far, 219.71 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines, including Covaxin have been administered under the nationwide vaccination drive. As the infection rate has been sturdily declining globally, exports of Covaxin were negatively impacted with poor off take by foreign countries.

“COVID-19 is not considered a threat anymore globally,” sources added. In April this year, the World health Organization (WHO) said it confirmed the suspension of supply of Covaxin through UN procurement agencies and recommended that countries using the vaccine take action as appropriate.

A statement issued by WHO then said the suspension is in response to the outcome of its post EUL (emergency use authorisation) inspection held between March 14- 22, 2022 and the need to conduct process and facility upgrade to address recently identified GMP (good manufacturing practice) deficiencies.

When the COVID-19 infection was at its peak during 2021, the Brazil government suspended its decision to import 20 million doses of Covaxin following a controversy that attracted investigation by authorities in that country.

Bharat Biotech on July 23, 2021 said it terminated the MoU it entered into with Precisa Medicamentos and Envixia Pharmaceuticals LL.C for its COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin for Brazilian market.

In December 2021, Bharat Biotech said, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has approved the extension of its COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin’s shelf life up to 12 months from the date of manufacture.

ADELIDE: Minnows Netherlands knocked South Africa out of the T20 World Cup with a stunning 13-run win as the Proteas yet again chocked in a big ICC tournament, here on Sunday.

Netherlands dished out a collective batting effort to post a decent 158 for four after being invited to bat and then restricted the Proteas to 145 for eight for their biggest victory in world cricket.

It was Dutch side’s first win against South Africa across any format. South Africa’s defeat secured India’s passage into the semifinals. India have a match to play against Zimbabwe later today in Melbourne.

Netherlands’ win has converted the next match between Pakistan and Bangladesh into a virtual knock-out as the winning team will make it to the knockout stage from Group 2 along with India.

It was Netherlands second win in the Super 12 stage, having defeated Zimbabwe by five wickets earlier.

Chasing a competitive 159, South Africa lost skipper Temba Bavuma (20) and Quinton de Kock (13) early.

Rilee Rossouw (25) got a start before becoming Brandon Glover’s (3/9) first victim as South Africa slipped to 64 for three.

Aiden Markram (17) and David Miller (17) then added 26 runs for the fourth wicket before three quick wickets, including two in one over from Glover, spoilt South Africa’s chances.

Markram was dismissed by Fred Klassen in the 13th over as Stephan Myburgh took an excellent catch at short cover.

Glover then dismissed dangerous Miller and Wayne Parnell in a span of three balls to dent South Africa’s chances as they slumped to 113 for six.

From thereon, it was a herculean task for the likes of Heinrich Klassen and Keshav Maharav to take the side past the finish line as South Africa fell short by 13 runs.

Earlier, Stephan Myburgh (37 off 30) and Max O’Dowd (29) gave the Dutch team a good start, sharing 58 runs for the opening wicket.

Besides the duo, Tom Cooper (35 off 19) and Colin Ackermann (41 not out off 26) scored quick runs to help Netherlands get past the 150-run mark.

Ackermann’s innings was laced with three boundaries and two huge sixes, while Cooper struck two fours and as many hits over the fence.

Leaving aside Anrich Nortje (1/10), none of the South African fast bowlers could inflict any damage on Netherlands with Wayne Parnell, Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi all going for runs.

Left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj (2/27) picked up two wickets for the Proteas, while Markram (1/16) accounted for one batter.

Krishna puja sees Muslim, Hindu youth join hands in Karnataka

November 7, 2022 by Nasheman

KARWAR: A group of Hindu and Muslim friends has come together to install an idol of Lord Krishna and has been worshipping it for the last one month at Habbuwada in Karwar. The youth, who are daily wagers, are worshipping the idol as it is considered auspicious to perform pujas for Lord Krishna during Deepavali by the people of Karwar and surrounding areas.

“This is the first time that we have organised a Krishna puja in our Locality. Our friend Nagraj wanted to worship the idol, saying Krishna is the universal God and people from all communities will be blessed. We all pooled in money for the idol and brought it here. We have been performing pujas on our own, and once done, we will immerse the idol in the sea,” said Shahrukh.

The friends – Nagraj, Babu, Shahrukh, Hritik, Mohammed and Siddiqui – got the clay idol prepared, consecrated it and are now worshipping it. “We have been friends since childhood. We studied together and prayed together. We meet almost every day. We celebrate Muslim festivals and they join us during Hindu festivals,” said Babu.

Their other friends, including Praveen, Nagnath, Ramesh and Akram, contributed Rs 2,000 each and the group spent close to Rs 15,000 for the idol and daily decorations. “We need more money and people are helping us,” he said. Corporator Gajanan Kubde, seeing their enthusiasm, has helped them get the no-objection certificate from the Karwar City Municipality and the police.

“We have just begun it this year. We need to continue it for the next five years,” said Mohammed. Though the event was quiet when it began, it has been drawing big crowds now. The group is planning a grand event when the idol is immersed in December.
