Karnataka transport department issues step-by-step process to get HSRP for all vehicles

September 20, 2023 by Nasheman

BENGALURU: After the state transport department was flooded with multiple queries from the public, regarding affixation of the High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP), the department issued a public notice detailing the step-by-step process flow.

Those who own vehicles registered prior to April 1, 2019, can visit either of the following websites: transport.karnataka.gov.in or siam.in to book your HSRP affixation. Choose the vehicle manufacturer, fill in the vehicle details, choose the dealer location as per convenience, and pay the HSRP fee online. Following payment, an OTP will be sent to the vehicle owner, and the owner can choose the date and time of affixation. A person can either visit the vehicle manufacturer/dealer or choose to get it done at his home or office as per convenience.

In case of two-wheelers, there will be two HSRP, and three in case of three- and four-wheelers, it is three, the third HSRP sticker is placed on the wind shield, for traffic cameras, he added.

Step by step

  •  Choose the vehicle manufacturer
  •  Fill in the vehicle details
  •  Choose preferred dealer location
  •  Make online payment

TN MPs meet union minister

September 20, 2023 by Nasheman

CHENNAI:   A delegation of Tamil Nadu MPs from all parties led by Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to Union Minister for Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi, urging him to direct Karnataka to release Cauvery water due to Tamil Nadu.

Already, Tamil Nadu had sought 12,500 cusecs for 15 days but the Cauvery Water Management Authority ordered the release of 5,000 cusecs for 15 days. Talking to reporters after meeting Shekhawat, Duraimurugan said the delegation wanted the union minister to issue strong instructions to Cauvery Water Management Authority and Cauvery Water Regulation Committee to direct Karnataka to release water.

Duraimurugan said CWRC calculated that 12,500 cusecs should be released to Tamil Nadu.  Karnataka should release at least that much water to Tamil Nadu to save the standing crops in delta districts. Duraimurugan also said Tamil Nadu will put forth its arguments before the Supreme Court when the case is heard on September 21.

BJYM leader thrashes tribal in MP, booked; Congress calls ruling regime party of atrocities

September 20, 2023 by Nasheman

BHOPAL/ANUPPUR: The opposition Congress accused the ruling regime in Madhya Pradesh of failing to check atrocities against tribals after a video purportedly showing a Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) leader beating a man with slippers in Anuppur district went viral.

MP Congress chief Kamal Nath alleged the ruling BJP is becoming a “party of tribal atrocities”.

Meanwhile, the police have registered a case against the accused BJYM leader, who was also expelled by the party.

Sub Divisional Officer of Police Sumit Kerketta said that one Hirwa Singh Gond (57) and Bhoma Singh (60) were travelling on a motorcycle from Rajendra Nagar to Anuppur when their two-wheeler collided with a pick-up vehicle on Monday.

Bhoma Singh died on the spot following which a large number of people gathered at the spot, the official said. However, two persons beat up Gond, who was riding the motorcycle, he said.

A video of the assault of the tribal man later went viral

The two accused, identified as Jitendra Kushwaha and Ganesh Dixit, were booked under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the official said.

A probe has been started and further legal steps are being taken, he said.

BJP district president Ramdas Puri said Dixit, who was BJYM Mandal president (rural), has been expelled from the organisation.

The BJP believes in social service and there is no place for violence in the party, he said.

Sharing a video of the assault on his X account, Congress chief Kamal Nath claimed on Wednesday that a BJP leader was beating a tribal man with slippers.

“BJP is becoming a party of tribal atrocities in Madhya Pradesh. What do you want? When you cannot stop atrocities on tribals then at least resign from the post of Chief Minister,” Nath said in a post on X.

Citing cases like the Sidhi urination incident, Nath said that the state has become number one in tribal atrocities.

BJP workers have been given the licence to commit atrocities against tribals, he alleged.

In the purported video of the assault in Anuppur district, a man is seen lying on the roadside while two persons, including one with slippers, are beating him.

India lift their 8th asia cup Siraj storm On Sri Lanka to submission

September 18, 2023 by Nasheman

COLOMBO:  It was quite an unusual sight — for the first time in the tournament, the R Premadasa Stadium was packed for the Asia Cup final on Sunday between co-hosts Sri Lanka and India. As the drama started unfolding in the middle, there was another unusual sight — the scoreboard. The wicket section was rotating faster than the runs and by the time the heavens opened up again later in the evening, the match was already over; in less than three hours. The 50-over match turned into a 50-run affair after Mohammed Siraj’s inspired spell skittled Sri Lanka out to give India a modest 51-run target. Almost as if Rohit Sharma & Co did not want to go into another reserve day after a delayed start.

In a span of 24 balls, Siraj blew away the Sri Lankan batting. The pacer started with a maiden over and followed it up with four wickets off his next six balls reducing Sri Lanka to 12/5. He ran through the top-order and claimed his first ODI fifer (6/21) in the fifth over as the co-hosts were bundled out in 15.2 overs. India openers did the rest, chasing down the target in just 6.1 overs.

India’s trophy drought ended
After five years, the Men in Blue won their first multi-team tournament, putting an end to the long wait. It should give them a morale boost ahead of all-important World Cup

Nipah scare: Chikkamagaluru shuts doors on tourists from Kerala

September 18, 2023 by Nasheman

CHIKKAMAGALURU: With an increase in the number of Nipah cases in Kerala, the district administration and district general hospital are taking cautious steps to tackle the spread of virus by taking necessary precautionary measures.

With the scare of Nipah virus looming large over the district and the Malnad area being adjacent to the coastal district, the administration has banned the entry of tourists from Kerala. Owners of resorts, homestays and hotels have been suggested not to allow the entry of these tourists.

On the other hand, the hill ranges of Mullayyanagiri and Seetalayyanagiri have been beckoning visitors from different states and large numbers of people through package agencies are visiting the district. On the other hand, with bats being the carriers of the virus, local residents urged the administration to translocate bats that roost in trees. Social activist Sundaresh stressed the need to dispel fear in the minds of citizens and educate them to take preventive steps.

Meanwhile, district surgeon of Malle Gowda District General Hospital Dr Mohan Kumar said that there is no need to panic as no cases are reported in the district but as a precautionary measure, 6 beds equipped with ventilator and oxygen facility have been kept in the special ward. Suggesting the public not to eat half-bitten fruits by bats, he advised people to take preliminary treatment.

can’t release water to TN Not enough storage, : CM Siddaramaiah

September 18, 2023 by Nasheman

KALABURAGI: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday said the reservoirs in the Cauvery river basin do not have enough storage to release water to Tamil Nadu.

“We are filing an appeal before the Supreme Court, briefing it as to why Karnataka could not implement the orders of the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA). Karnataka needs more than 106 tmcft of water in Cauvery river if we have to release water to Tamil Nadu. Karnataka needs 30 tmcft for drinking water purposes, 70 tmcft to save standing crops and 3 tmcft for industries. But as on date, we only have 53 tmcft,” he said.

He termed former chief minister BS Yediyurappa’s statement that Karnataka has released water to Tamil Nadu as politically motivated. All the previous governments, including Yediyurappa’s, released water to the neighbouring state when they were in power, he added.

“In a normal year, Karnataka used to release 177.25 tmcft of water. So far, we have released 37.7 tmcft. Let the former chief minister tell us where we have released 99 tmcft to Tamil Nadu. The CWMA has suggested that we release 500 cusses of water to Tamil Nadu. But we have not released it as we do not have sufficient storage,” he added.

Temples submerge as Shipra River overflows in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain

September 18, 2023 by Nasheman

UJJAIN: Several temples situated near Ram Ghat in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain district have submerged as the Shipra River is overflowing following the continuous rainfall in the district for the last two days.

The district administration is on alert mode and has made necessary arrangements for the safety of the people. The administration also urged the residents to avoid visiting waterlogged spots in the district.

Secretary of Shipra Tairak Dal, Santosh Solanki said, “All the temples near the Ramghat are submerged in water. The administration has stopped the movement of visitors by placing barricades at the gate of the Ghat to avoid accidents. Only those devotees who come to offer Pind Daan (ritual to offer homage to departed souls) are allowed to take a bath here. The edge of the ghat has completely submerged”.

On the other hand, Tehsildar Anirudh Mishra said, “The water has now reached the big bridge here. Administration, police departments and municipal corporations are on alert mode everywhere. The people have been informed not to go to the waterlogged places and barricades have been put up to prevent their movements to such places.”

People are in safe places and there has been no casualty so far. They will try to ensure that there will be no problem ahead too. About three to four feet of water has accumulated on the big bridge, he added.

Unhealthy snacks raise risk of strokes and cardiovascular disease: Study

September 18, 2023 by Nasheman

The researchers discovered that just half of the people matched the nutritional value of their meals and snacks. This disparity has a detrimental impact on health indicators like blood sugar and fat levels, and addressing it may be as simple as changing one’s diet.

With unhealthy snacks, 25 per cent of people nullify the positive effects of healthy meals, increasing their risk of stroke and cardiovascular disease.

Dr Sarah Berry from King’s College London and chief scientist at ZOE said, “Considering 95 per cent of us snack, and that nearly a quarter of our calories come from snacks, swapping unhealthy snacks such as cookies, crisps and cakes to healthy snacks like fruit and nuts is a really simple way to improve your health.”

Contrary to what is often believed, the analysis demonstrated that snacking is not harmful as long as the snacks are nutritious. Compared to those who don’t snack at all or who nibble on harmful foods, people who frequently eat high-quality snacks like nuts and fresh fruits are more likely to have a healthy weight. Analysis revealed that high-quality snacks can help improve metabolic health and reduce appetite.

However, a quarter of the individuals claimed to consume unhealthy snacks in addition to healthy main meals. Poor-quality snacks, such as heavily processed foods and sweets, made people feel hungry and were linked to worse health markers.

Unhealthy snacks have been connected to higher BMI, visceral fat mass, and postprandial triglyceride concentrations, all of which are linked to metabolic diseases like obesity, stroke, and cardiovascular disease. Your health may also depend on when you eat your snacks. Research has shown that snacking after 9 p.m. was linked to blood indicators that were worse than at any other time. Snacks at this time typically consisted of calorie-dense, high-fat and sugar items.

Dr Kate Bermingham from King’s College London and senior scientist at ZOE said, “This study contributes to the existing literature that food quality is the driving factor in positive health outcomes from food. Making sure we eat a balanced diet of fruit, vegetables, protein and legumes is the best way to improve your health.”

‘Small in duration but big on occasion’: PM Modi in address before special session of Parliament

September 18, 2023 by Nasheman

PM Modi in address before Parliament special session

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that the which would commence today is short but huge. He was speaking outside the new Parliament building.

“This Parliament session may be small in duration but is big on occasion; it is a session of historic developments. A speciality of this session is that the journey of 75 years is starting from a new destination. Now, while taking forward the journey from a new place, we have to make the country a developed country by 2047. For this, all the decisions of the time to come will be taken in the new Parliament building,” he said in his address to the media ahead of the five-day session.

There is an atmosphere of festivity and enthusiasm, and the country has been filled with renewed self-confidence, he said, while telling parliamentarians to give maximum time to the short session.

In an apparent reference to frequent protests by opposition members during previous sessions, often leading to disruptions of proceedings, Modi hoped everyone will shed shortcomings and carry the goodness as they move into the new building of Parliament on Ganesh Chaturthi on Tuesday.

Today will be the last day of business in the existing building before the legislature shifts to the adjacent new building on Tuesday.

The PM is also scheduled to start a discussion in the Lok Sabha on the Parliament’s 75-year journey shortly.
