World Elders Day Celebrated in Bangalore

October 2, 2017 by Nasheman

Bangalore: World Elders Day was celebrated with all fun and fervor at Museum Road with participation from more than 100 senior citizens from different old age homes across the city. The elders from Ashley Care Homes, Little Sisters of the Poor and Friend in Need Society actively participated in the events and games organized by Ms. Karen Pinto.

The entertainment extravaganza included music, dance and games suited to their age and lifestyle. Renowned musicians Mr. Carlton Braganza, Ms. Priya Mendens and Mr. Shankar performed retro hits taking the senior citizens to their yesteryear memories. Bangalore’s most admired dance troupe TeaAm 5678 choreographed a beautiful performance for the seniors.

“I look forward to planning this beautiful day to which is completely dedicated to the senior citizens of various old age homes across the city. It’s quite heartening to realize how much they eagerly await this day more than anybody here. Their excitement and joy to be a part of this event constantly motivates me and I will ensure to continue this initiative just to see their broad smiles and hopefully in the process creating a memorable day in their lives”, said Ms. Karen Pinto, who has been organizing this event since last three years.

International day of senior citizen is an opportunity to highlight the important contributions that older people make to society. Along with top artists from the city, children also form part of the entertainment as the seniors love having them around and the kids in return learn some life altering lessons from them.

“We are glad to be a part of this wonderful event. It is quite fascinating to witness the enthusiasm and excitement of these elderly people while participating in each activity. They are a plethora of knowledge and humor that is seldom noticed by their own kins and in today’s fast moving world, it’s quite unfortunate that the younger lot do not find enough time to spend with the elder members of their family. By celebrating this day, we hope to spread some joy, be with them and take back beautiful memories of a day well spent with the best people. The elders here today are an inspiration to us and have proven that age is just a number”, said Mr. Sanjay Shenoy, Joint Managing Director, Legacy Global Projects, who is supporting the event.

PM is a ‘liar’, won’t allow Bullet Train: Raj Thackeray

September 30, 2017 by Nasheman

Mumbai: In the aftermath of the stampede which killed 22 commuters on Friday, MNS President Raj Thackeray on Saturday called Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “liar” and warned that he would not allow the Bullet Train project till all suburban commuters’ issues are resolved.

“I shall not allow even a brick for the Bullet Train project to be laid. First resolve all the basic problems of Mumbai commuters. If Modi wants, let him construct it in Gujarat. If they use force, we shall also retaliate,” an agitated Thackeray thundered.

Attacking the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he called Modi a “liar” who changed all his statements before and after the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

“We have never seen a PM who is such a big liar. He made big promises and then dismissed them as ‘election jumlas’. How much can a person lie in this fashion?” asked Thackeray.

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) President claimed that Suresh Prabhu was replaced by Piyush Goyal as the Railway Minister only to push through the Bullet Train project.

“This Goyal is useless, Prabhu was good.”

Thackeray announced that he would personally lead a morcha to Churchgate on October 5 to oppose the Bullet Train plans and urged all Mumbaikars to participate in large numbers.

After the deadly stampede on Friday, there have been sharp reactions from across the public and political spectrum on priority being accorded to the expensive Bullet Train project vis-a-vis providing basic amenities to Mumbai’s daily eight million plus railway commuters.

Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao was holding the additional charge of Tamil Nadu. There had been demands of appointment of a full-time governor in Tamil Nadu due to the political situation that arose following the death of J Jayalalithaa in December.

Malik, former MP and BJP’s national vice president, has been appointed the Bihar governor. The post had fallen vacant after Kovind was nominated as the BJP’s presidential candidate. He was elected as president in July this year.

Brigadier (Retd) B D Mishra would be governor of Arunachal Pradesh, it said.

Nagaland Governor Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya was holding the additional charge of Arunachal Pradesh.

A special invitee to BJP’s national executive, Prasad has also been the leader of the opposition for five years in the Legislative Council.

If Yashwant Sinha is wrong, then prove it: Shiv Sena

September 28, 2017 by Nasheman

Mumbai: The Shiv Sena today dared the Centre to prove that the remarks of former finance minister Yashwant Sinha on the state of the economy were wrong and wondered what punishment awaited the BJP leader for going public with his views.

It also claimed that many BJP leaders were afraid of speaking against the dispensation, fearing that they would have to face “unknown dangers” if they did. The attack by Sinha, who was the finance minister under the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government, in a newspaper article has set off a political storm even as two top Union ministers asserted that the Indian economy was the fastest growing in the world.

“Some people assume development will take place by winning elections and by tampering the EVM machines or by using money power. But, the state of the economy is very critical now,” the Sena claimed in an editorial in party mouthpiece ‘Saamana’.

“When experts like Manmohan Singh and P Chidambaram tried to reveal the condition of the economy, they were written off. Now, senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha, who for a long time held the finance portfolio, has made some revelations. He may be termed dishonest or anti-national now,” it claimed.

“During Stalin’s rule in Russia, anybody who had an ideology against that of the government or spoke the truth, somehow disappeared in the darkness of the night and was never seen again. We will have to see what punishment Yashwant Sinha gets,” alleged the Sena, which is a constituent of the NDA government at the Centre.

“If Yashwant Sinha is wrong, prove that the allegations levelled by him are false. Many other senior BJP leaders have strong resentment towards the failing state of the economy but cannot say anything due to the fear of unknown dangers,” it claimed.

The BJP’s paid social media ‘pracharaks’ will not be able to prove Sinha wrong as he is a senior leader, the Sena said. While several schemes are being criticised for failing to meet the objectives, the government is spending crores of rupees to make them seem as successful, it alleged.

In the article headlined “I need to speak up now”, Sinha, 84, had criticised Finance Minister Arun Jaitley over the “mess” in the economy” and said he would be failing in his national duty if he did not speak up.

Sinha, a member of the BJP’s ‘margdarshak mandal’ that was set up in 2014 to guide the party, also said a revival by the time of the next Lok Sabha elections due in 2019 was “highly unlikely” and a “hard landing” appeared inevitable.

Chennai, Sep 28 : An inquiry commission, set up by the Tamil Nadu government to probe former chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s death, will look into the circumstances leading to her hospitalisation last year and subsequent treatment, the government has said.

The commission shall submit its report in three months, it said.

A public (SC) department Government Order (GO) dated September 27 said Tamil Nadu Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao, in excercise of the powers conferred under relevant sections of the Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952 (Central Act LX of 1952), issued the following terms of reference of the commission.

“To inquire into the circumstances and situation leading to the hospitalisation of the late Hon’ble Chief Minister (Jayalalithaa) on 22.9.2016 and subsequent treatment provided till her unfortunate demise” on December 5, 2016, it said.

The state government had on Monday announced setting up of the inquiry commission to probe and submit a report on the death of Jayalalithaa.

The probe was a key demand of the then rebel AIADMK faction led by O Panneerselvam as a pre-condition for the merger of his camp with that of Chief Minister K Palaniswami.

The two factions had merged on August 21.

Another GO, dated September 25 and released by the government yesterday, said the Commission “shall complete its enquiry and submit its report (both English and Tamil) to the Government within a period of three months from the date of publication of this notification in the Tamil Nadu Gazette (ie. September 25)”.
