3 Movies Win Big @ The 2ND Edition Of News18.com Reel Movie Awards 2019
The 2nd edition of the highly-anticipated News18.com’s Reel Movie Awards 2019 successfully celebrated the collective achievement of content-driven cinema & honored exemplary artists who have charted the new course for Indian cinema. The ceremony saw thecrème de la crème of the industry comprising of the renowned film-makers, producers & artists, in attendance in Mumbai. Celebrities like Alia Bhatt, Pankaj Tripathi, Sriram Raghavan, Amit Trivedi, Konkona Sen, Dia Mirza, Boman Irani, Ankita Lokhande & Shibani Dandekar were seen amping up the oomph factor @ the glamorous ceremony.
Winning the hearts of the audience & the critics alike, Alia Bhatt took away the“Best Actress” award for her unparalleled performance in Raazi. On the other hand, Gajraj Rao won the “Best Actor” award for his outstanding performance in Badhai Ho starring Neena Gupta, Gajraj Rao, Ayushmann Khurana & Sanya Malhotra, Amit Sharma’s Badhai Ho won the “Best Film” award, while Sriram Raghavan for his movie Andhadhunwon the “Best Director” award.
News18 Reel Movie Awards recognizes independent cinema that is challenging the narrative of the Indian film industry & redefining the essence of successful films. The award categories captured all the aspects of new age cinema broadly under 2 categories namely “On Screen” & “Behind The Scenes.” The evening was a laughter fest with the host Cyrus Broacha keeping everyone entertained with his sharp wit, sarcasm & real humor.
The awards night also witnessed the title of “Best Supporting Actor” male & female go to Manoj Pahwa & Surekha Sikri respectively, for their marvelous performances in Mulk & Badhaai Ho. Having mesmerized the audience with their endearing voices, Ammy Virk & Shahid Mallya won the award for “BestPlayback Singer (Male) for their heart touching song – “Darya”from the movie – Manmarziyaan. Harshdeep Kaur & Vibha Saraf won the Best Playback Singer (Female) for “Dilbaro” from Raazi. “Daryaa”from Manmarziyan also won the “Best Song category” & Dilbaro penned by Gulzar won the “Best Lyrics” award, making it a night of double wins for these popular tracks. Commenting on the Reel Movie Awards, the phenomenal Alia Bhatt said, “I am really happy & excited to be here. It feels really honored to be among such talented & beautiful people. I think it is really great that such initiatives are taken to support & celebrate small & medium budget films. It is really great to see movies like Raazi, Stree & Badhaai Ho receiving love & appreciation from the audience & the critics.”
Talking about his win in the “Best Actor” category for Badhaai Ho, Gajrao Raocommented, “I am really grateful to the Reel Awards for nominating me for this role. I feel privileged to be part of such a talented nomination list. I’m accepting this award on behalf of the other nominees & I hope that this award function continues for many, many years to come.”
Talking about the changing dynamics of the Indian film industry, Amit Sharma who took home the award for the “Best Film” Badhaai Ho said, “The cinema that was once considered as art films or content-driven films is working well today & that change is indeed very good. There are a lot of stories in every corner of the country & I firmly believe that these are stories meant to be told. In essence, that is what’s working today, we should tell stories that are relatable & enjoyable at the same time.”
