Bengaluru: In a shameful incident reported in Bengaluru, a father who is also a policeman was seen thrashing his 25-year-old daughter in the middle of the street on Thursday, March 12.

It is said that the parents of the girl who are settled in Madurai thought that the girl, who works in Bengaluru had a relationship with a boy, and were “teaching her a lesson”.

Speaking to media, the women stated that they were shocked to see the educated parents including the mother who is a teacher by profession, involving in such a disgraceful act on the street.

“More shameful was the sight of nearly 50 people standing dumbstruck and enjoying the scene. We freed her and made her sit inside our car. Her father sat on the bonnet, refusing to move. By then the police arrived,” said the women.

Bengaluru: African nationals attacked by mob, cops say 'minor incident'

March 12, 2015 by Nasheman

africans-attacked-bangalore

Bengaluru: Four African nationals were allegedly attacked by a mob at Byrathi here after locals were reportedly “annoyed” with them for creating “nuisance” in the area.

The attack took place when we were returning home, John, an African national said, adding, he has received multiple injuries.

“The mob attacked us around 12:30 am and it continued till 3 am. The incident took place when I and three others were returning home. I was chased and beaten up …. have sustained multiple injuries,” he said.

John said they did not know why they were assaulted, even as the police denied any assault in the incident which took place on the intervening night of March 9 and 10 at Byrathi near Kothanur in north-east Bengaluru.

Police, who were initially tight-lipped about the incident, maintained it was a verbal duel which resulted in “incidents of pushing and jostling.”

“I was there at the Kothanur police station. I interacted with the African nationals and they told me that it was a minor incident, and there was no attack on them,” Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Alok Kumar told PTI.

The Africans do not want to file a case, he added. However, police would take suo motu cognisance of the reported multiple injuries sustained by John and find out whether he suffered those injuries during the attack, Mr Kumar said.

“We will take suo motu cognisance of the alleged injuries sustained by John and find out the truth,” he added.

Bengaluru cop suspended for assaulting good samaritan

March 4, 2015 by Nasheman

Bengaluru: A traffic sub-inspector was suspended on Tuesday for assaulting an ex-serviceman who helped in getting an ambulance out of the traffic gridlock on a busy thoroughfare in the city centre.

“We have suspended the inspector (Ganganna) for physically abusing Nagappa, an ex-serviceman, who allowed an ambulance to drive out of the traffic jam by removing a rope barricade tied to block access to a free passage on Palace Road,” deputy superintendent of police (DCP) Rajendra Prasad told IANS.

Unseasonal rain during the day disrupted normal life due to water-logging and consequent traffic snarls across the city.

The police action came hours after local news channels aired footage of Ganganna accosting and hitting Nagappa, who was seen removing the rope and letting the ambulance drive away from the gridlock.

“Though Nagappa was not authorised to remove the barricade, the sub-inspector had no right to manhandle him when he was trying to help the ambulance to get out of the traffic jam,” Prasad admitted.

In defence, Ganganna said in the process of helping the ambulance to drive away, Nagappa cleared the way for other vehicles, stuck in the jam, to also follow behind it on the otherwise blocked road.

Nagappa, who was on the spot on his cycle, however, said he removed the rope after a traffic constable on duty told him to do so.

Flying Bulls collide mid-air at Aero India: Pilots steer damaged aircrafts to safety

February 20, 2015 by Nasheman

Aero India planes collide

Bengaluru: Disaster struck the Flying Bulls at the ongoing Aero India 2015, as two of the aerobatic aircraft collided mid-air at Yelahanka Air Base here on Thursday afternoon.

But despite suffering massive wing and propellor damage, the two uninjured pilots deftly steered the aircraft to safety, avoiding a potential catastrophe. Hundreds of onlookers, many of them schoolchildren, were barely 200 meters from the accident spot.

The drama unfolded at around 3.10 pm, a few minutes into the Czech Republic team’s afternoon aerobatic session. The spectacular stunts in the air went horribly wrong as the tail fin of one plane scrapped against the left wing of another during the ‘wing-over manoeuvre.’ Due to the sudden impact, one aircraft hit the other’s propeller.

Momentarily, the pilots lost control. But the lead pilot, 63-year-old Radka Machova, despite suffering extensive damage to the aircraft, recovered and landed safely. So did the second plane, which too had dents beyond immediate repair. An Indian Air Force (IAF) spokesman later confirmed that both pilots were safe. A precautionary Foreign Object Removal (FOR) parade was carried out on the runway following the accident. The airshow was halted for 40 minutes before the aerobatic displays by other teams took to the skies.

Both aircraft were towed away from the tarmac. Since the damage appeared extensive, a Defence Ministry official indicated that Flying Bulls were unlikely to perform for the reminder of the airshow. For Radka, though, the damage to her German-made XA42 aircraft could accelerate the planned shift to a safer Zlin 50LX aircraft. Eyewitnesses recalled that one of the aircraft almost crash-landed. “We saw one of the planes wobbling heavily before landing. Emergency vehicles and ambulances rushed to the spot. Both the pilots stepped down from the planes on their own,” said Syed Faiz, a business manager, watching the show with his family. However, 56 children from the Great Eastern International Public School, who were squatting right on the tarmac, realised the full impact of the accident much later. Little did they know that they were too close to the spot.

Owned by Red Bull, Flying Bulls arrived for the airshow with a team of three pilots, including Jiri Saller and Krejci. The lead pilot, Radka is a former member of the Czech national aerobatics team. The Bulls’ “Mirror Flight” manoeuvre is a particularly tricky one where two planes fly extremely close. One flies in the normal position while the other flies upside down.

Bengaluru cops arrest another Bodo militant

February 18, 2015 by Nasheman

arrest

Bengaluru: The City Police recently arrested a National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit) militant who was wanted in several cases in Assam.

Police nabbed Bodo militant Jaolong alias Jordan, 27, a native of Kokrajhar, Assam, in a secret operation from Honaganahatti, off Magadi Road, on the outskirts of the City on the evening of February 14.

He was arrested on the basis of inputs given by intelligence agencies and the Assam police, a top police source said. Once the Ramanagar Rural police confirmed on February 14 that he was indeed living in that locality, sleuths stormed the place and picked him up.

Jaolong is said to be a “wanted militant” in several cases in Assam. He is also suspected to be a hardcore member of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB). A local court here has remanded him in judicial custody as the arrival of Assam police has been delayed, the source added.

The suspected Bodo militant was hiding in Bengaluru and this is the third arrest in less than a month made by the city police.

The militant had been working and living at a plywood factory in Honaganahatti for the last two months.

Jaolong is the third suspected Bodo militant to have been arrested in Bengaluru since January 23, 2015. A senior police officer explained that many Bodo militants were choosing to hole up in south India as a significant number of people from northeastern India live here.Even Honaganahatti has a sizeable number of migrants from the Northeast.

“Most of them come here and work as construction labourers, helpers in HOTELS and carpenters or take up other menial jobs. They easily get work because they settle for low wages. They consider Bengaluru a safe haven since they can easily mingle with people from their region, making it difficult for the police to track them,” the officer added.

Aero India takes off today in Bengaluru

February 18, 2015 by Nasheman

aero-india

Bengaluru: The 10th edition of the biennial aerospace exhibition — Aero India 2015 — will take off in a flurry of fascinating aerial displays at the Yelahanka Air Force Station here on Wednesday.

Breaking tradition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally inaugurate the show instead of the defence minister. With a record 623 participating companies and 72 aircraft, the show gets bigger this time.

Betting big on the “Make in India” campaign, Modi is expected to beckon global aviation majors to invest and collaborate with Indian firms. But alongside the aggressive push for partnership deals, the steel birds will take flight to impress business visitors and the public alike.

On the threshold of getting the Final Operational Clearance from Indian Air Force, the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), Tejas will also showcase its prowess. Giving the LCA stiff competition on the versatility front, American and French fighter jets will make one final bid to clinch the long-delayed Medium Multi Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) deal.

For the public, the wing-walkers of the globally renowned Scandinavian Airshow Group and the Aero Superbatics team from the United Kingdom will fly high in breathtaking aerobatic manoeuvres. The display pilots will walk and dance to musical beats on the wings of the flying aircraft. The US Special Forces will debut with their pulsating open sky jumps, while the Flying Bulls from Czech Republic will be back again.

The gigantic C-17 Globemaster-III, the Boeing KC-135 tanker and Embraer’s EMB-145-I will remain big on static display, alongside 17 other civilian aircraft. Record ticket sales of over 3 lakh is expected to make the crowd turnout unprecedented in scale. Official delegates have confirmed participation of 24 countries.

People can also watch out for packed food, colas and mineral drinking water supplies throughout the five days. The authorities have also made arrangements for air conditioned toilets to make it comfortable for visitors. Casual dressing would be fine given the hot weather.

Meanwhile, 3,000 policemen, including home guards, have been pressed into security and traffic-related services. Additional policemen will be deployed on the last two days of the show. The first three days have been dubbed trade days for business visitors, and the weekend is for general visitors.

However, the crowd-puller aerobatic displays will be on show on all the five days. General visitors could view the aerial displays on all days from the Air Display Viewing Area.

Underworld element Bannanje Raja arrested in Morocco: Sources

February 11, 2015 by Nasheman

Bannanje Raja

Bengaluru: Notorious underworld element Bannanje Raja has been arrested in Morocco, said sources.

Sources claimed that Raja was arrested in Casablanca on Tuesday February 10 by a special investigative team of India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Raja, who was understood to have been operating out of Morocco, was nabbed based on inputs by Karnataka police, it is learnt.

He is wanted in a number of cases, including murders, extortions, loot, kidnapping and so on in various places, particularly Mangaluru and Bengaluru. A red corner notice too had been issued against him, and the state police had taken the help of CBI to trace him. He was also known to have fled to Dubai and arrested from there in 2009.

Reports about him hiding in Morocco came to light after a hotelier refused to give into extortion threats and filed a complaint. During investigation, the intelligence agency officials learnt that he had gone underground in Morocco and taken the name of ‘Hegde’.

It is learnt that Raja is not involved in any crimes within Morocco. The local Moroccan police have given 48 hours to submit information about the cases registered against Raja, sources said. The Bengaluru police are expected to leave for Morocco soon.

Bengaluru: Criminal cases have been registered against VHP leader Praveen Togadia and organisers of ‘Hindu Virat Samavesha’ for allegedly violating prohibitory orders issued by Bengaluru Police Commissioner MN Reddi.

“We have booked one criminal case against Togadia and cases against the organisers for violating prohibitory orders,” a top police official, who did not wish to be named, said in Bengaluru on Monday night.

Togadia has been booked under Section 188 of IPC,invoked against an offender for disobeying the order duly promulgated by public servant.

Sections 143 (punishment for unlawful assembly), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence omitted in prosecution of common object), and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the IPC have been invoked against event organisers, he said.

Section 188 was also invoked against the organisers for violating orders for holding the programme beyond the prescribed time limit. “Permission was granted to hold the event from 3 pm to 5 pm, but it extended to 7.40 pm,” the official said.

This section also was invoked against organisers for playing a 15-minute video footage of Togadia’s speech, defying the orders of the Police Commissioner, the official said.

On 7 February, Reddi had issued an order, prohibiting organisers from displaying and transmitting Togadia’s speech through any form of media for two days.

Last week, he had imposed the prohibitory orders on the ground that Togadia’s ‘provocative’ and ‘inflammatory’ speeches would have ‘grave’ consequences and likelihood of breach of peace.

VHP had challenged the Commissioner’s orders on Togadia’s entry into the city in the High Court with the interim prayer for a stay on the ban.

While declining the interim plea, the Judge, however, had said Hegde’s petition was maintainable and adjourned the matter without mentioning the next date of hearing.
