Govt committed to building Ram Temple at Ayodhya: Mahesh Sharma

December 30, 2015 by Nasheman

Mahesh Sharma

Bulandshahr: Union Minister Mahesh Sharma has said that his government is committed to building the Ram Temple at Ayodhya but would wait for the Supreme Court verdict or arrive at a “mutual understanding” on constructing the temple.

He said it is the “dream” of the people of the country that Ram Mandir is built as early as possible.

“Our party and government have already given their mandate on this issue. We want to build Ram Mandir but we will either follow the Supreme Court’s order or would come at a common conclusion about constructing the Mandir. This is why it is taking time,” he said while speaking at a function here yesterday.

“BJP is committed to build Ram Temple and even the people of the country want that the Ram Temple should be established.

But the issue is pending in court,” he said.

With his remarks sparking a controversy, Sharma later stressed that senior party leaders will take a decision on the issue.

“Till an order is issued or mutual understanding arrived at, BJP should follow the situation and even I am not authorised to speak on this topic. Our senior party leader or government will take decision,” he said.

The Minister also said that a grand museum is being constructed in Ayodhya.

“A grand museum is being constructed in Ayodhya. The Centre has given its nod to a Rs 170 crore Ram Van Gaman Path project which will depict Lord Rama’s ideals,” he said.

Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi stressed the Ram Mandir issue is in court.

“The Ram Mandir issue is in court. Steps will be taken on the direction of the court and this is a non-political issue,” he said.

AAP levels fresh allegations against Arun Jaitley

December 30, 2015 by Nasheman

arun jaitley

New Delhi: Continuing its offensive against him, AAP today alleged that Arun Jaitley, in his capacity as President of DDCA in 2011, had “pressurised” the then Police Commissioner to “close” an investigation involving a cricket club of a private bank.

The party released two letters, purportedly written by Jaitley, to former Delhi Police Commissioner B K Gupta and then Special Commissioner Ranjit Narayan, requesting them to “fairly” deal with the matter and “close” the case since “DDCA has done no wrong”.

The party also renewed its demand for Jaitley’s resignation in the wake of the “fresh disclosures”. The letter to Gupta is dated October 27, 2011 while the one written to Narayan is dated May 5, 2012.

Senior AAP leader Ashutosh claimed that the letters “punctured” the Union Finance Minister’s repeated assertions that he was in no way connected to any wrongdoing in the Delhi and District Cricket Association, which he headed from 1999 to 2013.

Reacting to the allegations, BJP Spokesperson GVL Narsimha Rao asked as to what was wrong in Jaitley writing a letter to the police commissioner. “He was not even in power so the charge does not stick.”

In the letter to Narayan, Jaitley is quoted as writing that “some persons have been repeatedly approaching Delhi Police with complaints in relation to the identity of the Syndicate Bank Cricket Club.

“The complaints are completely unsubstantiated and do not disclose any offense. Certain office bearers of DDCA are feeling harassed by repeated questioning in this regard. I would request you to look into this matter so that it can be fairly dealt with and closed since the DDCA has done no wrong.”

When contacted DDCA said the club is under them and that it currently falls in the “institutional” category.

“There are two types of clubs namely institutional and private. While a private club receives a subsidy, an institutional does not and that is the broad difference between the two,” a DDCA official said.

The AAP said it is an irregularity as it involved the alleged conversion of an “institutional club” run by Syndicate Bank to a “private club” through “collusion” of DDCA officials with certain private individuals not connected with the entity.

“Can Jaitley deny that his actions amount to directly obstructing the police investigation in an ongoing case? On what basis did he conclude that the complaints were unsubstantiated and disclosed no offence?” Ashutosh asked.

In the letter to Gupta, Jaitley is quoted to have written that the entire controversy is based on the fact that Cricket Club of the Syndicate Bank was converted as a private club.

“The fact is that on 2/11/2005 the bank itself had written to one Bhola Shankar who was managing the club that the club shall henceforth be run by him and be a private club. Subsequently the Bank changed its position and Shri Bhola Shankar also agreed to hand back the club to the bank.

“The DDCA is willing to give the club back to be managed by the bank itself but nobody seems to be showing active interest from the bank’s side. However, some persons who are not employees of the bank or in any way connected with the bank or the club have been pursuing some complaints in this matter,” the letter said.

Jaitley requested Gupta to look into the issue and “ensure that the matter is dealt with fairly and closed since the DDCA has done no wrong.”

AAP stressed on the fact that Jaitley held the position of the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha during that period which effectively means that he “misused” a constitutional position by trying to “influence the probe”.

“Given Jaitley’s political clout in this Central government, is it fair for you to continue as a Central minister, particularly when the Delhi Police directly reports to the Centre?” Ashutosh asked.

Tamil Nadu Muslim group issues fatwa against Ramdev’s Patanjali products

December 30, 2015 by Nasheman

Baba-Ramdev-noodles

Chennai: A Tamil Nadu-based Muslim organisation has issued a ‘fatwa’ against yoga guru Ramdev’s Patanjali products containing cow urine, saying their use was considered ‘haram’ (forbidden) in Islam.

Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamat (TNTJ) said cow’s urine was being used as a ‘key ingredient’ in cosmetics, medicines and food products of Patanjali that are available in open markets as well as online.

“According to the beliefs of Muslims, cow’s urine is haram which should not be used. Therefore, TNTJ issues a fatwa that products of Patanjali are haram,” TNTJ said in a release.

The fatwa was being issued to ensure that such products were not consumed by Muslims due to a lack of awareness about the ingredients of the products they consume in daily life, it added.

December 29, 2015 by Nasheman

ramiz-yousuf

Here is the what transpired between the two:

Raja: People with a beard should first of all stop lying.

You should bring him before me as I want to see how big a player he was. You just have two centuries from 57 Tests. With just two centuries under your belt, don’t you feel ashamed while speaking on cricket? You are nothing but an English teacher.

Raja: You don’t feel ashamed lying while keeping a beard?

Yousuf: I don’t know anything. I just know how to play cricket and I talk about it. Do you know how to play cricket?

Raja: Whatever you have played, you have just spoilt Pakistan cricket.

Yousuf: You are nothing but an English teacher.

Anchor (interrupts): I just wanted to know your views about the return of Mohammad Amir. Ramiz Bhai, how important would be it be for the team management to take Amir along with them?

Raja: See, first of all don’t bring such cunning people when I am around.

by Al Jazeera

Guinea has been declared Ebola free after more than 2,500 people died from the virus in the West African nation, leaving Liberia the only country still counting down for an end to the ruinous epidemic.

People in the capital, Conakry, on Tuesday greeted the declaration by authorities and the UN World Health Organization with mixed emotions given the huge number of deaths, and the damage the virus did to the economy and the country’s health and education sectors.

On Wednesday, the government, together with representatives of donor nations and NGOs, will hold an official ceremony to mark the declaration.

They will also pay tribute to the 115 health workers who died fighting Ebola and eight members of an Ebola awareness team who were killed by hostile locals in Womey, in the country’s forested southeast.

“Several of my family are dead. This situation has shown us how much we must fight for those who are survivors,” Fanta Oulen Camara, who works for Medecins Sans Frontieres Belgium (Doctors Without Borders), told the Reuters news agency.

“After I got better, the hardest thing was to make people welcome me. Most people that normally supported me abandoned me. Even the school where I was an instructor dropped me. It was very hard,” said Camara, 26, who fell ill in March 2014.

Ebola has orphaned about 6,200 children in Guinea, said Rene Migliani, an official at the national coordination centre for the fight against Ebola.

There were more than 3,800 Ebola cases in Guinea out of the more than 28,600 cases during the epidemic.

A total of about 11,300 people died, according to figures from the WHO.

Ebola has been combatted by a classic health strategy of identifying people with the virus, containing those who were in close proximity to them, and ensuring that health workers rigorously follow a strict protocol on wearing protective clothing to prevent direct contact with the patient.

A country is declared Ebola free 42 days after the recovery or death of the final patient and if there are no new infections.

Liberia has lost more than 4,800 people to the haemorrhagic fever, but is now set to be declared virus-free in January. It was declared Ebola free in May and September, but each time new cases emerged.

Sierra Leone officially ended its epidemic in November.

by Al Jazeera

At least 18 people have been killed and many others wounded in a suicide attack outside a government office in Pakistan, police told Al Jazeera.

The attack happened on Tuesday at an office of the National Database and Registration Authority in the town of Mardan, in the country’s northwest.

“A suicide bomber riding an explosives-laden motorcycle hit the Nadra office in Mardan where a large number of people were standing in queues,” police officer Naeem Khan told Reuters.

Jamat Ul Ahrar, a splinter group of the Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility, saying the office was a legitimate target as it was a part of the “heathen Pakistan state”.

“God willing, we will target all Pakistani organisations that are either directly or indirectly a part of this war,” Ehsanullah Ehsan, a spokesman for the group, said in a statement.

Pakistan has been battling armed groups since 2004, in a conflict that has claimed the lives of tens of thousands of civilians and security forces personnel.

Overall levels of violence have decreased in 2015 after a nationwide military-led offensive against the groups, blocking their sources of movement, communication and funding.

The crackdown came after the Taliban school attack in December 2014, in which more than 150 people, mainly school children, were killed.

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah’s U-turn on anti-superstition Bill

December 29, 2015 by Nasheman

siddaramaiah

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today reiterated his government’s commitment to enact anti-superstition Bill in the state.

Speaking at an event here, he said, “…wiping out superstition is very important as those with vested interest gets an opportunity to exploit it. So they too on their part contribute towards growth of superstitious beliefs.”

Stressing on the need to enlighten and educate people over the issue, Siddaramaiah said that his government had to face stiff resistance for the proposal to bring in a law that prevents superstitious practices.

“We may have to face opposition from vested interests, but we are ready for it,” he added.

Soon after the murder of rationalist M M Kalburgi, a group of writers and family members of Narendra Dabholkar and Govind Pansare, who were killed under similar circumstances, had urged the Chief Minister to proceed with the Karnataka Prevention of Superstitious Practices Bill that was shelved following stiff opposition.

The draft Karnataka Prevention of Superstitious Practices Bill, 2013 was prepared by Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP) of National Law School of India University, on the invitation of state government.

BJP condemning certain provisions in the Bill had said the government has no right to infringe upon the beliefs of Hindus.
