October 6, 2015 by Nasheman

vishakpatnam

Visakhapatnam: Maoists on Tuesday kidnapped three TDP leaders in Visakhapatnam district in Andhra Pradesh.

BPO employee gangrape: Two suspects being interrogated

October 6, 2015 by Nasheman

rape

Bengaluru: Two persons were being questioned in connection with the alleged gangrape of a call centre employee in a moving van here.

“We have rounded up two persons and brought them to the Madiwala Police Station where the case has been registered. We are verifying whether they were the ones who allegedly gangraped the call centre woman employee,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Rohini Katoch Sepat told PTI.

In a reminder of the horrific 2012 gangrape of a paramedical student in Delhi, the woman in her early 20s was waiting to hail an autorickshaw to return to her PG home and boarded the van which stopped by after she was offered a drop.

The woman was allegedly gangraped on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday by the driver and the cleaner. One allegedly raped her in the vehicle and the other in a deserted spot before she was dropped in Madiwala area here from where she was picked up after a three-hour long ordeal.

The woman, who was initially reluctant to lodge a complaint, was persuaded to do so, police said. She was allegedly threatened by the criminal duo that she would be killed if she complained to police.  She was admitted to a hospital on Sunday and discharged yesterday.

Police said they have clues, as they began analysing the CCTV footage at traffic signals along the route taken by the van, which also passed by a police station.

In 2005, a 24-year old employee of a city-based multinational firm was raped and murdered by the cab driver who was later sentenced for life.

FIR against Akbaruddin Owaisi for his speech

October 5, 2015 by Nasheman

Asaduddin Owaisi

Kishanganj: An FIR was today lodged against All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi by Kishanganj district administration for allegedly making inflammatory speech at an election rally here yesterday.

The police are also probing whether damage to idols at two temples in the town, which were discovered this morning, was a fallout of the speech, Superintendent of Police Rajiv Ranjan said.

Owaisi’s speech, he said, violated provisions of section 144 of Crpc and an FIR has been lodged under sections 153A and 188 of IPC at Kochadhaman police station.

Section 153A deals with promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony, while section 188 deals with disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant.

The FIR has been lodged on the basis of magistrate’s report, the SP said. Owaisi had yesterday addressed an election meeting at Sontha haat village under Kochadhaman assembly constituency in Kishanganj district from where AIMIM state unit chief Akhtarul Iman is contesting.

He had allegedly used abusive language against all members of Parliament except his elder brother Asaduddin Owaisi who is AIMIM chief and an MP from Hyderabad. He also allegedly made provocative remarks against BJP leaders.

The police are probing if the damage to idols of goddess Kali in two temples in Nepalgarh locality had any connection to the speech. The SP said idols were found damaged in two adjacent temples this morning and created tension in the town and protests.

District administration sought to maintain peace by talking to people of the two communities, he added.

Movie Review: ‘Mungala’ is no doubt a very realistic & offbeat film

October 5, 2015 by Shaheen Raaj

Mungala

Producer: Gaurav Bhanushali
Director: Vijay Devkar
Star Cast: Lokesh Gupte, Jyoti Joshi, Suhas Palshikar, Ganesh Yadav, Chetan Dalvi etc
Genre: Drama
Verdict: AVERAGE

Plot: A village is suffering due to draught since a long time and the end to this problem is nowhere in sight. The villagers daily wait for the tanker to arrive to quench their thirst and to fulfil their other household chores. One of the youth Kisan has come to the village after being sacked due to the recession period in the city.  One of the other youth who has gone to the city dies and now his widow is left to fend for herself and her mother – in – law.  And then Kisan devises a plan with his village bumpkins to bring the village back to normalcy. And in the end all is well that ends well and Kisan too, then decides to tie the Knot with the widow.

Aces: Producer Gaurav Bhanushali along with the director Vijay Devkar deserves a standing ovation for presenting such a realistic and off beat subject especially on the Marathi celluloid silver screen. All the actors have performed their act too sincerely and honestly. A special well deserved mention must be made of Lokesh Gupte as Kisan and Jyoti Joshi as the widow.

Minuses: The only minus point of the film is its snail space. As nothing seems to be moving the way it should. In short the film is too verbose. Besides the director Vijay Devkar should have resisted the temptation of forcefully entering an item song.

Last Word: The prospects of Mungala at the box office looks grim but it will definitely succeed in doing good business in the single theatres & tent cinemas especially of the interiors. That apart the film will win rave reviews and awards galore in the festival circuit.

Movie Review: ‘Daagdi Chaawl’ is an eyeoper & a hard hitting film based on gang war

October 5, 2015 by Shaheen Raaj

Daagdi Chaawl

Producer: Mangal Murti FIlms & Sai Pooja Entertaintment & Film
Director: Chandrakant Kanse
Star Cast: Ankush Chaudhari, Pooja Sawant, Makarand Deshpande, Sanjay Khapre, Kamlesh Sawant, Yatin Karyekar etc
Genre:  Action & Drama
Verdict: Good

Plot: The plotted scenario of Dagdi Chawl starts off in an era of 1996 and revolves around a person called Surya (Ankush Chaudhari), who leads a peaceful life in one of the chawls of Mumbai. He owns his own work setup and is almost on the verge of settling down in life by marrying his beloved (Pooja Sawant). In that particular era of 1996 underworld activities were still to be seen live on the streets of Mumbai. In this milieu one such incident happens with Surya, which lands him in a situation where he has to come face to face with ‘Daddy’ aka Arun Gawli (Makrand Deshpande) and Surya’s journey in the underworld also starts off, so does his struggle to disassociate himself with the tag of Daagdi Chawl, which lands him further deep into the activities of Daagdi Chawl. Besides he is also pitied against Daddy.

Aces: Hats off to director Chandrakant Kanse for tackling such a complex issue of the mafia and its constant and ruthless gang wars and for this the credit should also go to the art director who recreated a perfect ambience of the bygone era of Dagdi Chawl. That apart Ankush Chaudhari is outstanding as Surya as he has literally got into the skin of the character.

Minuses: Some of the scenes are outright repetitive which may not go down well with the audience.

Last Word: A film like Dagdi Chawl is an eye opener once again for one and all that no matter what, crime never pays, but if at all one gets caught in its web unwillingly than there is always a way out if one wills it.

Movie Review: ‘Singh Is Bling’ has mass appeal with its full on entertainment quotient

October 5, 2015 by Shaheen Raaj

Singh-Is-Bliing

Producers: Akshay Kumar, Ashvini Yardi & Jayantilal Gada
Director: Prabu Dheva
Star Cast: Akshay Kumar, Amy Jackson, Lara Dutta, Kay Kay Menon, Pradeep Rawat, Anil Mange, Arfi Lamba, Rati Agnihotri, Kunal Kapoor, Murali Sharma etc
Genre: Action Comedy
Verdict: Good

Prabhu Dheva’s latest directorial offering Singh Is Bliing may not be really impressive, but it does have its profound moments of Mass Appeal glory. So Singh Is Bliing is like a common man’s recipe served with a full on entertainment toppings.

Plot: Raftaar Singh (Akshay Kumar) is a good for nothing but a jolly good fellow staying in Punjab. In spite of being the apple of his mother’s (Rati Agnihotri) eye, his father (Pradeep Rawat) is fed up of his buffoonery antics at regular intervals and soon enough packs him off to Goa to work with his friend in his beach resort. On the other hand Sara (Amy Jackson) comes to Goa from Romania in search of her mother. Both Raftaar & Sara meet but it takes eons for the two of the them to fall in love mainly because of the language barriers. That apart there is a joker in the pack Mark (Kay Kay Menon) who is hell bent on marrying Sara.

Aces: The hilarious antics of Akshay Kumar and his two sidekicks Anil Mange and Arfi Lamba, the trio of whom enliven the proceedings time and again. Director Prabhu Dheva is back with a bang after his dismal failure in his last outing Action Jackson.

Minuses: The film also has its moments of ill logical events with a set of disjointed pieces occurring right through the entire duration of the film.

Last Word: All in all Singh Is Bliing is a full on entertaning film.

Teams confirmed for ICC Champions Trophy 2017

October 5, 2015 by Nasheman

The ICC Champions Trophy 2017 will be a 15-match tournament, with teams split into two groups of four.

The ICC Champions Trophy 2017 will be a 15-match tournament, with teams split into two groups of four.

Bangladesh will return to the ICC Champions Trophy for the first time since 2006 after the eight sides were confirmed for the 2017 tournament, which will be hosted by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) from 1 to 18 June.

Bangladesh has replaced the West Indies, which finished outside the top eight in ninth position, in the ICC ODI Team Rankings on the 30 September 2015 cut-off date.

The eight sides to play in the short and sharp, nation-versus-nation ICC Champions Trophy 2017 are (in rankings order): world champion Australia, title holder India, 1998 winner South Africa, 2000 champion New Zealand, 2002 co-winner Sri Lanka, host England, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Bangladesh’s last participation in the ICC Champions Trophy was in India, when it featured in the qualifying round. It lost to Sri Lanka (by 37 runs) and the West Indies (by 10 wickets). Its only victory was against Zimbabwe by 101 runs.

Since the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, Bangladesh cricket has been on a high and has produced very strong performances. It won ODI series against Pakistan, India and South Africa, which has helped it jump from ninth to seventh in the ICC ODI Team Rankings.

The ICC Champions Trophy 2017 will be a 15-match tournament, with teams split into two groups of four, with the top two teams in each group progressing to the semi-finals. The groups and the schedule for the ICC Champions Trophy will be announced in due course.

With the sides for the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 now confirmed, the next important qualification date in the diaries of the 12 teams on the ICC ODI Team Rankings will be 30 September 2017.

That is the date when the top eight ranked sides on the ICC ODI Team Rankings will earn direct qualification for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 to be hosted by the ECB. The bottom four sides will get a second chance to complete the 10-team line-up in the ICC Cricket World Cup when they will be joined by teams from the ICC World Cricket League Championship and the ICC World Cricket League Division 2 in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2018.

As such, all bilateral ODI cricket in the lead up to 30 September 2017, including the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, will now have greater importance as only 27 points separate second-ranked India from ninth-ranked West Indies.

ICC ODI Team Rankings (as on 30 September 2015, top eight sides have qualified for the ICC Champions Trophy 2017)

 Rank   Team             Points

1          Australia         127

2          India                115

3          South Africa   110
