Rahul Gandhi a kid, he should chew toffees: Azam Khan

January 25, 2016 by Nasheman

Rahul-Gandhi

Rampur: Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan on Sunday took a swipe at Rahul Gandhi, saying the Congress vice president is still a kid and nobody takes him seriously.

When asked about Gandhi’s recent trip to Bundelkhand, Khan said the Congress vice president must be tired of visiting here and there. “He should take some toffees along, have them, and distribute them among other kids too,”said IBN7 quoted Khan as saying.

On Saturday, Gandhi undertook a ‘padyatra’ (foot march) in drought-hit Bundelkhand.

Addressing villagers during his nearly seven-km-long march, he demanded that some of the money saved by the government due to big drop in crude oil prices be diverted to the region.

Prophet Mohammed (PBUH): The Pinnacle of Humanity, An inter-religious Conference

January 23, 2016 by Nasheman

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind

Prophet Muhammed (PBUH), is the greatest man ever to walk on the face of the earth. His achievements and contributions to humanity are immense and unparalleled. Born 1490 years ago in an ignorant and uncivilized society in Arabia, he brought about a comprehensive and nearly bloodless revolution in a short period of 23 years which continues to expand even to this day, inspiring and guiding large section of humanity across the globe.  He is the final messenger of Allah, truly universal in his address and leadership.  He is the perfect example, Pinnacle of humanity and benefactor of mankind.  The book revealed on him, the Holy Quran, remains in its original form and his life and teachings have been preserved in authentic and exquisite detail.  Quran happens to be the most widely read book today and the Prophet the most written about personality.  If ever the world could unite on humanitarian principles it is only possible under the noble leadership of this great Prophet.

This unrivalled  position of the Prophet of Islam has been the pride of his followers but envy of his enemies.  Hence the scorn, insults and accusations heaped upon him all along history.  This has become more frequent and heinous in the recent years, evoking widespread anger and condemnation.

While protests and demonstrations are an immediate and legitimate reaction, what is more important is to convey and communicate to the people at large both in word and deed the true and humanitarian teachings of the Prophet. The cobweb of misunderstandings needs to be cleared  and the solution and salvation that Islam can offer to the problem riddled and ailing humanity today brought forth clearly.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Bangalore has launched a 21 day campaign to educate fellow citizens of all faiths, about the true life and teachings of the Holy Prophet from 10 th to 30th Jan. 2016.

About 15000 folders and 6000 small books on Prophet in different languages will be distributed personally in door to door meetings.  Small gatherings will also be organized for the same all over the City. Finally a large inter religious conference will be held on the topic ‘‘Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) – Pinnacle of Humanity’’ at Ambedkar Bhavan, Millers Road, Bangalore on Saturday, 30th Jan. 2016 at 7-00PM.  This will be addressed by a galaxy of luminaries and religious heads.  Moulana Syed Jalaluddin Umri, All India President, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, will deliver the keynote address.  Sri Sri Shivanubhava Shivarudra Swamiji of Belimath, Mr. Venkatachaliah, Former Chief Justice of India, Rev.Bernard Moras, Archbishop of Bangalore, Giani Baldev Singh, Head Priest Gurudwara, Ulsoor, renowned litterateur Hampa Nagarajaiah and  Mr. Mohammed Kunhi, manager Shanthi Prakashana will also address.

Movie Review: ‘Jugni’ mixes romance & music in a perfect blend

January 23, 2016 by Shaheen Raaj

jugni

Producer: Karan Grover, Manas Malhotra & Shefali Bhushan
Director: Shefali Bhushan
Star Cast: Siddhanth Behl, Sugandha Garg, Sadhana Singh, Anuitta K Jha, Samir Sharma, Chandan Gill etc
Genre: Musical Romance
Verdict: GOOD

Director Shefali Bhushan in her debut directorial offering Jugni has made a very heart touching film about the professional plight of the rural folk singers who always dream of making it big in tinsel town.

Jugni (Firefly) is the beat of the soul, the free-flying spirit. Jugni is Vibhavari or Vibs (Sugandha Garg). Vibs is a music director, working on her 1st big break in the Hindi film industry. When work and home affairs, with her live-in boyfriend Sid (Samir Sharma) hit a high tide, Vibs hits the road with a glint of hope; to find music. The journey takes her to a village in Punjab in search of a Bibi Saroop (Sadhana Singh), whose voice holds the promise that Vibs is searching for. But as the twist of fate would have it, Mastana (Siddhant Behl), Bibi’s son and a proficient singer himself, is the voice and man who winds his way into Vibs’ heart.

Aces: The remarkable performance of the lead players Siddhanth Behl as Mastana and Sugandha garg as Vibhavari followed by Sadhana Singh as Bibi Saroop. Another highlight of Jugni is its soundtrack by Clinton Cerejo and one special soul stirring number composed by Allah Rakha Rahman.

Minuses: The only minus point of the film Jugni is its totally predictable story line marred by sub plots which has no connection whatsoever with the musical backdrop.

Last Word: Jugni has its own freshness in all aspects and respects and will appeal to both the urban (multiplex) & rural (single screen) audiences. An ideal weekend fare.

Movie Review: ‘Guru’ is a power packed film a real treat for lovers of action films

January 23, 2016 by Shaheen Raaj

guru

Producers: Sunil Lulla and Deepak Pandurang Rane
Director: Sanjay Jadhav
Star Cast: Ankush Chaudhary, Urmila Kanetkar, Murali Sharma etc
Genre: Action
Verdict: Good

Director Sanjay Jadhav in collaboration with his hero Ankush Chaudhary has given a hat trick of successful movies in the past but in Guru he has taken refuge in the Southern style of power packed action movies.

Plot: Guru (Ankush Chaudhary) is a small – time crook who adopts a village and defends it against a criminal mastermind troubling its residents.
Guru is your basic Robin Hood, who takes from the crooked and gives to the charity. On the run from his friendly neighborhood policeman, he is witness to a murder. Guru returns to his village to get away from the scandal, but the scandal follows him. The murder he witnessed is part of a larger conspiracy, which threatens to endanger him, as well as his loved ones. With his brother seriously injured & his newfound sweetheart (Urmila Kanitkar) in considerable danger, the stage is all set for Guru to take things in his own hands.

Aces: Ankush Chaudhary has given a good account of himself over all but his comic timing and his chemistry with Urmila Kanetkar is seen to be believed. Urmila Kanetkar also leaves an impact with her good screen presence. While Hindi actor Murali Sharma hams away to glory.

Minuses: Too much of mind-boggling action topped with the wreckage of cars a la Rohit Shetty style.

Last Word: Marathi audiences will love this action packed movie with a stamped Southern style of filmmaking.

Movie Review: ‘Kya Kool Hain Hum 3’ is an adult porn rom com that has gone for a toss

January 23, 2016 by Shaheen Raaj

Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3

Producers: Ekta Kapoor & Shobha Kapoor
Director: Umesh Ghadge
Star Cast: Tusshar Kapoor, Aftab Shivdasani, Krushna Abhishek, Mandana Karimi, Gizele Thakral, Claudia Ciesla, Shakti Kapoor, Meghana Naidu, Sushmita Mukherji, Andrew & Danny Suma
Genre: Adult Sex Comedy
Verdict: AVERAGE

Umesh Ghadge who is basically a Marathi director who now makes his debut in the Hindi film arena with Kya Kool Hai Hum 3 albeit with disastrous result. He has made a total mess of this Kya Kool Hain
Hum franchise in fact even worse than its earlier 2 versions.

Plot: Kanhaiyya (Tusshar Kapoor) is a good – for -nothing fellow who gets kicked out of his house by his business tycoon father (who else, but Shakti Kapoor). Meghna Naidu (the Kaliyon Ka Chaman babe at her horniest best) is Tusshar’s aunt & stepmother. Rocky (Aftab Shivdasani) is his ‘chuddy – buddy’ friendly mate, literally (found frolicking with babes more often than not in his 3 tiered palatial mansion with unclad beauties on every floor). Very soon, Kanhaiyya’s grandmother catches Rocky getting his rockers off to pornography – a development that kills her, quite literally. This prompts them to meet their Thailand – based friend Mickey (Krushna), who would rather refer to his place of residence as ‘Thai – land’.

But Mickey forgets to tell Rocky & Kanhaiyya that he is a porn filmmaker. So now the out of job boys become shameless porn stars. No doubt Kanhaiyya starts feeling guilty yet he continues enjoying what he is doing and turns Cock – eyed whenever he sees anything resembling Color Red especially in case of vulgarly gyrating semi nude babes.

Aces: Some humorous gags which may appeal to the mass audiences of multiplex & single theatres (front benchers).

Minuses: Everything goes haywire with the film from scene one like bad script, bad direction, bad gags topped with poorest performances by all the actors. Girls can be seen in their Bikini best, and even especially & carelessly leaving their bras strewn around anywhere nay everywhere and even guys are seen sporting their flimsiest & semi transparent G Strings leaving nothing to imagination. And the lewd & obscene gestures made by all the characters have crossed all limits in this film. Wonder what happened to Censor Board’s stringent policies or this time have they turned liberal with a vengeance as a cover up for their greasy palms?

Last Word: The film may prove to be enjoyable, for people who really relish such horny & blatantly sexy fares. And the audiences for such films comprises of select few ones known as front benchers of the single theatre’s who are now also found amongst the multiplex crowds. Need I say more.

Movie Review: ‘Airlift’ is a heart warming & a heart touching emotional saga

January 23, 2016 by Shaheen Raaj

Airlift

Producer: Nikhil Advani, Monisha Advani, Aruna Bhatia, Madhu G Bhojwani, Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar & Vikram Malhotra
Director: Raja Krishna Menon
Star Cast: Akshay Kumar, Nimrat Kaur, Feryna Wazheir, Inamulhaq, Lena, Prakash Belwadi, Kumud Mishra & Purab Kohli
Genre: War Thriller
Verdict: BLOCKBUSTER

Director Raja Krishna Menon has dabbled with humane stories in his 1st 2 outings namely Bus Yun Hi & Barah Anna and yet he had the guts to continue with his endeavor of emotional saga in his hat trick outing Airlift too. Besides producers Nikhil Advani, Monisha Advani, Aruna Bhatia, Madhu G Bhojwani, Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar & Vikram Malhotra deserve plaudits for backing this offbeat film.

Plot: a Kuwait based businessman Ranjeet Katyal (Akshay Kumar), along with 2 noble souls Ibrahim (Purab Kohli) in Kuwait & an Indian officer (Kumud Mishra) in the Indian Ministry in New Delhi in lieu with his better half (Nimrat Kaur), carries out a biggest civil operation of evacuation of Indians based in Kuwait during the Iraq – Kuwait war carried out during the reign of the evil Iraqi emperor Saddam Hussein. In 1990, Iraq invades Kuwait, leaving approx 1,70,000 Indians trapped. This is a true story of how Ranjit Katyal and India facilitate the largest human evacuation.

Aces: Firstly director Raja Krishnan Menon has surpassed his own par excellence directional skills considering his previous two offbeat ventures Bus Yun Hi & Barah Anna, secondly all the actors have delivered a very earnest, sincere, honest, enduring & realistic performance with Akshay Kumar (his life’s career best performance) leading the performer’s brigade and followed by Nimrat Kaur, Feryna Wazheir, Inamulhaq, Lena, Prakash Belwadi, Kumud Mishra & Purab Kohli (very sensitive act) and lastly all the technicians too deserves a special mention for their humanitarian efforts.

Minuses: The main problem is that for the common masses Airlift is devoid of any commercial trappings and even the only one belly dance number with a bevy of beautiful Iranian dancers seems out of place & out of context. Not to forget that the film moves ahead slowly with a few over repeated scenes.

Last Word: Airlift is one classy film well suited for the globe – trotting film festival circuit. And for its popularity amongst the Indian mass audiences it certainly needs a lot of encouragement.

Thousands infected in Tanzania cholera outbreak

January 23, 2016 by Nasheman

At least 222 are dead, while reported cases have risen to 14,303 since August as government battles to contain disease.

Earlier in January, Tanzania was one of 11 countries that received a cholera vaccine from WHO [Azad Essa/Al Jazeera]

by Al Jazeera

Tanzania is struggling to contain a deadly outbreak of cholera that has claimed at least 222 lives since August, the United Nations has said.

In a statement released to Al Jazeera on Thursday, the World Health Organisation and UNICEF, the United Nation’s children’s fund, said that the outbreak was straining local capacities and resources, and posed “a high risk to lives and the economy”.

According to the UN, the number of reported cases of cholera has climbed to 14,303 across 27 districts in the country since the outbreak began last August.

Cholera is a deadly diarrhoeal disease that can kill within hours if left untreated. Results from water quality surveys show that the source for the outbreak is contaminated water, usually borne out of poor hygienic practices and lack of sanitation facilities.

‘Rapid intervention’

Authorities say the first case was reported in Dar es Salaam’s Kinondoni district in August 2015 before spreading throughout the Dar es Salaam region, including Zanzibar.

Reliefweb reported that a surge in cases in November suggested that without a “significant and rapid intervention” there is a very real possibility that up to 40,000 people could be at risk.

The Tanzanian government says it believes it is well on the way towards successfully managing the scourge.

Rapid response teams had been deployed to the most affected areas to assist the work of the regional and district health authorities, Dr Janneth Mghamba, the assistant director of the epidemiology and disease control section at the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, told Al Jazeera.

She said that the numbers showed that rate of infection had slowed.

Responding to criticism that the government was late to react to the outbreak, Mghamba said her government was working on the issue as a matter of priority.

Improving sanitation

“This government is well aware that the first issue to address is that of safe water, followed by improved sanitation.

“There was a period when there was no cholera in Tanzania […] water and sanitation coverage in the country have climbed and now it is a case of implementation,” Mgamba said.

Earlier in January, Tanzania was one of 11 countries that received a cholera vaccine from WHO, but authorities said a shortage of the injection means that it would not be accessible to all Tanzanians.

In mid-2015, the WHO had organised about 164 500 doses of the oral cholera vaccine to help avert an epidemic in Kigoma, specifically the Nyarugusu refugee camp, where tens of thousands of Burundian refugees sought refuge after fleeing the political crisis in their neighbouring country.

Tanzania’s Cholera ClinicsCholera has claimed the lives of 31 people so far in Tanzania, most of them Burundian refugees. About 70,000 Burundians have fled to Tanzania as a result of political unrest in their country. Our Azad Essa visited one of 3 cholera clinics set up for the refugees arriving in Tanzania to contain the disease.Follow our coverage of Burundi: http://bit.ly/1KpDTsNError notice: An earlier version of this video was removed because we made an error in naming the location of the cholera clinic. Four people were killed and at least two wounded when a gunman opened fire at a high school and a second location in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, officials said.

A male suspect was in custody but officials have not yet given a motivation for Friday’s shooting in La Loche, an aboriginal community 600km north of the city of Saskatoon.

Initial reports said five people were killed.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Chief Supt. Maureen Levy said authorities had seized the suspect’s gun.

“There is four individuals deceased as a result of this tragedy and there are other injuries and they’re being treated by health care professionals at this time,” she told reporters.

“I can tell you that we have one male in custody. Public safety is no longer at risk and we have secured the firearm.”

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, speaking from the annual World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, said what had happened was “every parent’s worst nightmare”.

He added: “The community is reeling.”

A student at the high school was just returning from lunch when shots were fired said his friends ran past him urging him to get out.

“‘Run, bro, run!” Noel Desjarlais-Thomas, 16, recalled his friends saying to him as they fled La Loche’s junior and senior high school.

“There’s a shotgun! There’s a shotgun! They were just yelling to me. And then I was hearing those shots, too, so of course I started running,” The Associated Press news agency reported.

Mass shootings are relatively rare in Canada, which has stricter gun laws than the United States.

In the country’s worst school shooting, 14 college students were killed at Montreal’s Ecole Polytechnique in 1989. A shooting in 1992 at Concordia University in Montreal killed four.

Among Canada’s provinces, Saskatchewan had the highest rate of police-reported family violence in 2014, double the national rate of 243 incidents per 100,000 people, according to a Statistics Canada report on Thursday.
