As an apology, Kejriwal cleans dishes at Golden Temple as penance

July 18, 2016 by Nasheman

Arvind Kejriwal

Amritsar: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Monday washed dishes in the Golden Temple’s community kitchen as an apology after his Aam Aadmi Party drew flak for depicting the image of the Sikh shrine with the party symbol – broom – in its ‘youth manifesto’.

Kejriwal, who had arrived in the city last night for his act of penance, scrubbed utensils in the community kitchen for 45 minutes and later went to sanctum sanctorum to pay obeisance. He sat for half an hour on the marble floor outside the sanctum sanctorum to listen to religious hymns.

“I had come here for ‘sewa’ (voluntary religious service) to apologize if we had knowingly or unknowingly committed any mistake in our youth manifesto. I listened to the ‘shabad kirtan’ here that gave me immense pleasure. Now I feel peace of mind,” he told reporters.

AAP spokesperson Ashish Khetan, who was booked under Section 295-A (for hurting religious sentiments) by the Amritsar police, was also with Kejriwal.

AAP, which has been aggressively campaigning for Punjab Assembly polls due next year, courted controversy after the release of its youth manifesto in which the front page displayed the picture of party symbol broom along with that of Golden Temple that irked various Sikh religious and political outfits which demanded apology from Kejriwal.

Khaitan also faced trouble for comparing the party manifesto with the holy book of Sikhs – Guru Granth Sahib – and other religious books including Gita.

The AAP chief had earlier hit out at the ruling SAD-BJP combine, claiming they were feeling “jittery” due to impending success of AAP in Punjab and had hatched a conspiracy to defame the party.

Kejriwal was accompanied by AAP Punjab convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur, youth leader Harjot Bains, MPs Bhagwant Mann and Sadhu Singh, singer Gurpreet Ghuggi, Delhi MLA Jarnail Singh, MP Bhagwant Mann, actor Gul Panag and advocate HS Phoolka.

Sultan Conquers All Peaks Of Success On The Box Office Windows In Bollywood

July 18, 2016 by Shaheen Raaj

sultan

The unprecedented & the unusually phenomenal success of Salman Khan, Aditya Chopra & Ali Abbass’ Sultan is absolutely unthinkable & unimaginable.

Sultan’s 1st ever crowning glory in the Box Office turnstiles success arena was when it had crossed the 100 crore mark at the Box Office turnstiles in the 1st 3 days itself of its opening, coinciding with the Ramzan Eid festival. A feat which we don’t think has ever been achieved so far & so fast by any other Bollywood films. And not only these Sultan is still going strong in the Indian as well as the Global Cinema halls running in its 3rd consecutive week.

That apart Sultan’s total earnings in the last count has been estimated to have already crossed almost 300 crores at the Box Office turnstiles. Not only these Sultan seems to have done extremely well both in the Multiplex Cinemas as well as the Single theatres all over India.

The 1st ever reason for Sultan’s runaway success at the Box Office turnstiles was that it was an unrivalled solo release of that particular week. And this was followed by an unopposed open 5 days holiday weekend. So much so that even the English and other regional language movies filmmakers had backed out & stalled the release of their movies as they did not at all wish to compete in any manner whatsoever with Salman Khan’s Sultan.

Moreover Sultan also got the highest Muslim patronage, who thronged the cinema halls in leaps & bounds in their full on festive mood of celebrating their choicest & their favourite Ramzan Eid festival. Of course millions of Salman Khan fans too have contributed in making Sultan the greatest hit that it rightly & truly deserved.

By the way a few of the trade pundits from trade magazines, including your favourite trade magazine Film & TV Trade Preview, had already predicted a huge, huge success for Aditya Chopra, director Ali Abbas Jafar & super star Salman Khan’s Sultan.

Interestingly speaking and now coming to think of it, the grand Box Office turnstiles succcess of Sultan, of course also goes to, 1st & foremost to Sultan Salman Khan who has really, really worked very hard on his character of wrestler Sultan Ali Khan that too both in the Indian akhada as well as the Western styled Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) ring. He had also undergone an intense & gruelling session that too stretching himself beyond the limits of imagination. Hats off to him!

The others who have contributed to Sultan’s unlimited Box Office turnstiles success is producer Aditya Chopra, who has left no stone unturned to present Sultan as Yash Raj Films most lavish production ever, director Ali Abbas Jafar’s impeccably flawless direction, music composer duo Vishal Dadlani & Shekhar Ravjiani’s (Vishal – Shekar) soulful, melodious & foot tapping music (“Baby Ko Bass Pasand Hai”, “Jag Ghoomeya”, “Bulleya”, “Tuk Tuk”, “440 Volt” et al), cinematographer Artur Zurawski, action choreographer Larnell Stovall, editor Rameshwar S. Bhagat and above all other behind the scenes technical team too.

And how can one overlook Anushka Sharma’s solid act as a woman wrestler, Randeep Hooda’s terrific act as a martial arts expert, Amit Sadh’s perfect act as a business tycoon and above all Anant Vidhaat Sharma’s excellent portrayal of Salman Khan’s “Best Friend” Gobind who becomes Sultan’s support system throughout the movie.

One can go on & on speculating about the reasons of Sultan’s super success at the Box Office turnstiles. So much so that even reams & reams of papier du mache would be in suffice to describe its total impact at the Indian as well as the Global Box Office turnstiles.

To round it off we can only say that Sultan has indeed proved to be a penultimate supertainment and Salman Khan can now safely be termed as Bollywood’s Box Office Badshah.

Movie Review: ‘Great Grand Masti’ sans the real masti bores the cine goers to death

July 18, 2016 by Shaheen Raaj

Great Grand Masti

Banner: Balaji Motion Pictures & Maruti International
Producers: Sameer Nair, Aman Gill, Ashok Thakeria, Sri Adhikari Brothers & Anand Pandit
Director: Indra Kumar
Star Cast: Ritesh Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi, Aftab Shivdasani, Urvashi Rautela, Pooja Bannerrjee, Mishti, Shraddha Das, Sonali Raut, Kangana Sharma, Usha Nadkarni, Sanjay Mishra, Shreyas Talpade, Sudesh Lehri et al
Music: Sanjeev – Darshan, Shaarib – Toshi & Shaan

Director Indra Kumar’s latest outing Great Grand Masti is a rollicking albeit profusely oriented double entendre comic film, the 3rd installment in the Masti film series after Masti (2004) & Grand Masti (2013). But incidentally speaking the sequel Great Grand Masti does not at all lives up to the expectations bar previously raised by both its prequels namely Masti &
Grand Masti.

The loosely scripted scenario of Great Grand Masti starts off in its usual manner of establishing a premise of 3 sexless marriages. The Masti boys namely, Meet Mehta (Vivek Oberoi), Prem Chawla (Aftab Shivdasani) & Riteish Deshmukh (Amar Saxena) are trying to add some spice to their dead love lives but their attempts are foiled by the kith & kin of their respective wives’ families. Self -proclaimed Godman, Antakshari Baba (Sanjay Mishra) & Amar’s mother – in – law’s (Usha Nadkarni) faith in him is a hindrance for Amar who is on a lookout for some fun with his darling wife Sapna Saxena (Pooja Bannerjee). On the other hand, the childish & immature sister – in -law (Kangna Sharma) of Prem and her clingy nature to her sister & Prem’s wife Nisha Chawla (Shraddha Das) is a menace for Prem. Going ahead, the cross connection or rather the Judwaa experience between Meet’s wife Rekha Mehta (Mishti) and her body builder brother (Ketan Karandhe) makes him stay away from his wife. Prem, a real estate broker by profession, decides to take a break from the mundane life and decides to visit the village, Doodhwadi along with his 2 best friends to get some ‘masti’ under the pretext of selling off the so called haunted & heritage bungalow of Amar. As the trio set out on this crazy journey, they encounter the sexy Shabari (Urvashi Rautela). As the 3 men try to woo her & gain her attention, they realize that this time their Masti is not with a human but with a ghost who is longing for love & lust. As the 3 guys are trapped in the clutches of Shabari aka Ragini, the tale gets even further twisted when the wives of the trio decide to give a surprise to their hubbies.

Director Indra Kumar seems to have made Great Grand Masti only for the rural masses namely the so called front benchers, who relish in such double entendre fare accompanied with their own fully blasted citees & catcalls in the darkened cinema halls. But the film may not go down well with the classy metropolitan cine goers as Great Grand Masti doesn’t at all match up to the comedy quotient of the Masti franchise. Moreover Great Grand Masti also fails to retain the viewers attention span mostly succumbing to its predictability throughout the movie. So all in all Great Grand Masti’s main villian is its faulty & uninteresting script and overall the absolutely hackneyed directorial skills of Indra Kumar as his previously rib ticking directorial attempts in Masti & Grand Masti were absolutely entertaining & hilarious to the core.

Performance wise of course, the trio of Masti boys namely Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi & Aftab Shivdasani have really become proficient in enacting & re-enacting their mastibhara roles 3rd time in a row. Moreover the trio of actor’s namely Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi & Aftab Shivdasani’s comic timing is the probably the only saving grace of Great Grand Masti. Minus the trio of them the movie Great Grand Masti’s overall value is totally ZERO. Amongst the trio of actresses Mishti, Pooja Bannerjee & Shraddha Das also prove to be a big disappointment as they are nothing but glamour dolls displayed in a toy shop window of a shopping mall. That apart the other actress like Sonali Raut & Kangana Sharma too fails to impress, but actors like Shreyas Talpade in a cameo role of Babu Rangeela certainly & strongly makes his presence felt. On the other hand veteran actors like Sudesh Lehri, Sanjay Mishra & above all Usha Nadkarni have given a very interestingly believable account of themselves.

Tail Piece: Great Grand Masti will definitely fail to register any real masti oriented magic at the Box Office turnstiles.

BJP’s Navjot Singh Sidhu quits Rajya Sabha amid talk of switch to AAP

July 18, 2016 by Nasheman

Navjot Singh Sidhu

New Delhi: BJP leader Navjot Singh Sidhu quit as a member of Parliament on Monday, a move that was instantly seen as a precursor to his exiting the party. “The people of Punjab are looking for a change,” was his telling comment to media just before he put in his papers.

There is a strong buzz that the 52-year-old former cricketer and commentator will join Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is campaigning aggressively in Punjab ahead of elections in the state next year.

Sources close to Mr Sidhu and AAP indicate that he could be the party’s chief ministerial candidate in Punjab.

Mr Sidhu, who is also a popular television personality, was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in April.

He had been upset when he was asked to make way for Arun Jaitley to contest from Amritsar during the 2014 national election and denied the chance to contest.

He had represented the Amritsar constituency for 10 years. Mr Jaitley lost the election.

Mr Sidhu’s wife Navjot Kaur, who is a lawmaker in Punjab and a parliamentary secretary in the state’s Akali Dal-BJP government, is also set to resign, say reports.

She had announced her resignation on Facebook earlier this year but later changed her mind.

SC accepts structural reforms in BCCI

July 18, 2016 by Nasheman

bcci

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today accepted major recommendations of the Lodha Committee on reforms in BCCI including a bar on ministers and civil servants and those above 70 from becoming its members but left it to Parliament to decide whether it should come under RTI and betting on the game should be legalised.

The apex court also accepted the recommendations of the Committee headed by retired Chief Justice of India Justice R M Lodha to have a CAG nominee in BCCI.

A bench of Chief Justice T S Thakur and Justice F M I Kalifulla rejected BCCI’s objection against recommendations for one-state-one-vote and said that states like Maharashtra and Gujarat having more than one cricket associations will have voting rights on rotational basis.

It accepted the panel’s recommendation that there should be a player’s association in the BCCI and the funding of players’ association accepted while leaving it to the Board to decide the extent of funding.

The bench also accepted the recommendation that one person should hold one post in cricket administration to avoid any conflict of interest and scrapping of all other administrative committees in the BCCI after CAG nominee comes in.

The court however, left it to Parliament to decide whether functioning of BCCI can be brought under RTI as recommended by the Lodha Panel and whether to legalise betting in cricket or not.

It also left it to the Board to decide whether there is need for any changes in the existing agreement relating to broadcasting rights and whether a franchise member should be in the Board to avoid any conflict of interest.

The bench also requested the three-member panel, also comprising former apex court judges Ashok Bhan and R V Raveendran to oversee the transition of administrative structure in BCCI which has to take place within six months.

The apex court-appointed Lodha Committee had on January 4 recommended sweeping reforms and an administrative shake-up at the troubled BCCI, suggesting that ministers be barred from occupying positions, a cap put on the age and tenure of the office-bearers and legalising betting.

Some of the state cricket associations, former players Kirti Azad, Bishen Singh Bedi and cricket administrators also approached the apex court with regard to the implementation of Lodha panel recommendations in BCCI.

Love Ke Funday is all about the varied love story of Gen X but presented in a different sort of way.” – Indervesh Yogee

July 18, 2016 by Shaheen Raaj

indervesh yogee

Indervesh Yogee, the debutant director of Love Ke Funday talks at length about directing his 1st ever realistic new age movie, which he promises will highly appeal to the Gen X of the country.

*So what is your debut directorial movie Love Ke Funday all about?

*Actually speaking Love Ke Funday is all about today’s modern generation and their idea of love. Now trends have changed. Today’s generation is all about the social media interaction on What’s app, Facebook, Twitter et al. It’s a generation of quick love. So the attraction is strong but it is short – lived and with time it almost fizzles out. That apart Love Ke Funday is based in Mumbai and it talks about how people fall in love in this fast paced era.

*Ok! So how different is this love story of Love Ke Funday from the rest of the movie?

*The story & the characters of Love Ke Funday are very real. But Instead of fancy love scenes, the characters meet on the road or the cafeteria or a club. We have added an aspect of human psychological touch to our love story where, for example, you walk in the sun and you see your shadow ahead of you. You cannot catch it so you walk behind it. If you change your direction and walk in the opposite direction then your shadow will follow you. When someone does not give you attention, then that person’s importance increases. As soon as you change your focus, that person feels your importance and walks behind you. Keeping this in mind we have shaped the story of Love Ke Funday.

*Tell us something about the lead characters of Love Ke Funday?

*First & foremost Love Ke Funday has Aryan played by Shaleen Bhanot. His co -character describes him saying he’s done a PHD in talking nonsense but Aryan is more practical than the others. He believes that its not love when 2 people fall for each other in a day; its a mere mutually oriented fatal attraction. He is the flirty kind of a guy and calls every girl by a car’s name according to her features. If some girl is tall he will call her Limousine. If a girl is dusky and a little healthy he will call her Duster. Then there is a 2nd character named Sandy. He is also a flirty guy. We have described him in the movie by saying, there are girls who date him, rate him & wait for him…the ones who have done all this hate him! These characters represent the youth of today.

*Are you aware that Love Ke Funday is already being compared to films like Pyaar Ka Punchnama & Mastizaade?

*Be that as it maybe as per us Love Ke Funday is very different from all the above mentioned films. But one thing is for sure, we haven’t crossed the vulgarity & double entendre (double meaning) line; it’s much less than these films. Love Ke Funday can be called bold; we have bold jokes & punches. But even the bold scenes are shot in a funny way and not in a sexy or vulgar way.

*Love Ke Funday’s producer Faaiz Anwar is a legend when it comes to lyrics. So what kind of songs will be seen in this film?

*Frankly speaking Love Ke Funday’s music is the insurance of the film. So when we started working on it, we 1st got our film insured with the songs! We have some really very good & catchy songs. Mika Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, Javed Ali & Jojo have sung the songs in Love Ke Funday. Mika Singh’s song is simply great and I think it will be a chartbuster. He himself is very excited about the song! Sukhwinder Singh’s song is very good, and he has taken it upon himself to promote the film & the song. I am hoping that it will be the next “Chaiya Chaiya…” The 3rd song is sung by Javed Ali. He is a fantastic singer and our choreographer has given some great dance moves. We shot it in Kashmir in the midst of snow. The title song of the film is written by Faaiz Anwar and we all know he has written excellent songs. It has been sung by Jojo. People will love the songs and listen to them for the next 10 – 15 years.

*As a parting shot tell us what made you guys think of a title like Love Ke Funday?

*To be very honest we all felt that the title has to be attractive and should sound interesting. Moreover, the film is about the fundamentals of love so there couldn’t be a better title than this. This generation uses these fundamentals in the film.

ISIS Claims Responsibility for Nice Attack

REUTERS/Eric Gaillard

On Saturday, ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack in Nice where a truck rammed into a gathering of people celebrating Bastille day, killing 84 and injuring hundreds, ISIS-run Amaq news agency reports.

Amaq claimed the Nice attacker responded to the call to attack countries of the anti-ISIS coalition, reports Conflict News.

This may mean that he had no accomplices and that it was a lone wolf attack.

The police had reportedly arrested three people after raiding a small apartment at Rue Miollis but were clueless about whether the attacker was affiliated to ISIS.

The arrests concerned the attacker’s “close entourage”, sources said, and were made in two different areas of Nice.

The driver of the truck was earlier reported to be a 31-year-old Franco-Tunisian man.

Pakistani model Qandeel Baloch murdered by brother in Multan

July 16, 2016 by Nasheman

qandeel

by Dawn

Popular social media celebrity Qandeel Baloch has been killed in Multan, becoming the latest victim in the spate of “honour killings” that plague the country.

The 26-year-old, who is popular for posting risque videos and statements on Facebook, was killed by her brother, Regional Police Officer Sultan Azam said on Saturday.

Qandeel’s brother had been threatening her to stop posting photos and videos on Facebook, police added. Her brother fled after killing Qandeel, whose real name is Fauzia Azeem.

“Qandeel Baloch has been killed, she was strangled to death by her brother, apparently it was an incident of honour killing,” Sultan Azam, senior police officer in Multan, told AFP.

Earlier, TV channels reported that Qandeel was shot by her brother. Police have now confirmed she was “strangled to death” at her Multan residence.

Police added that Qandeel was in Multan for one week, and that forensic experts are examining the corpse to prepare a medical report.

No marks of torture were found on Qandeel’s body, said one senior police official. Her mother gave a statement to police.

Qandeel was in Multan to visit her parents as her father had been unwell. She spent Eid with her family.

Her brother, who was identified by the police as Waseem, went to meet her at night. When Qandeel was asleep at night, he strangled her.

City Police Officer Multan told DawnNews that the suspect will be caught soon. A police team has been dispatched to Dera Ghazi Khan to search for Waseem.

Request for security ignored

Three weeks ago, Qandeel had written to the interior minister, the director general of the Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) and the senior superintendent of Islamabad asking them to provide security to her and has requested action against those who made her identification documents public via social media.

She had said her life is in danger and that she is being threatened via calls on her mobile number and that she did not have security measures installed in her home.

She wrote: “I need security from you”.

Who is Qandeel Baloch?

Baloch, who became famous through her tireless self-promotion and suggestive “selfies” posted on social media, had amassed tens of thousands of followers.

“Nothing is good in this society. This patriarchal society is bad,” Qandeel had said in a recent interview with Images.

In one of her last Facebook posts, Qandeel reiterated her unapologetic approach: “No matter how many times I will be pushed down under… I am a fighter, I will bounce back.”

“Qandeel Baloch [is an] inspiration to ladies who are treated badly… I know you will keep on hating, who cares?” wrote Qandeel, who often referred to herself as a “one-woman army”.

She is derided and feted in equal measure in Pakistan, but the popularity of her videos evidence frustrations of many young people tired of being told how to behave.

She shot to fame in Pakistan in 2014.

Earlier this month, Qandeel released a music video which she starred in alongside little known young singer Aryan Khan. Titled ‘Ban,’ the music video touched on Qandeel’s status as a controversial social media icon, and was provocative given Pakistan’s conservative standards for entertainment.

Days later a man claiming to be Qandeel’s ex-husband made an appearance on TV, saying that Qandeel had a son with him during their brief marriage.

Qandeel confirmed his claims, saying she was forced into the marriage.
