Hardik Patel released from jail, gets nod for roadshow from Surat police

July 15, 2016 by Nasheman

Hardik Patel

Ahmedabad: Quota agitation leader Hardik Patel was released on bail from a jail in Surat on Friday and the police has granted permission to the Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) to organise a road show for the stir leader.

Patel walked out of Lajpore Jail on Friday morning, nearly nine months after he was arrested in connection with two cases of sedition and a case of violence at Visnagar lawmaker’s office during the quota stir last year.

Last week, the Gujarat High Court granted him bail on condition that he will stay out of the state for a period of next six months and will leave Gujarat within 48 hours after his release from jail.

PAAS had sought permission from Surat Police to organise a road show of Mr Patel in various areas of the city after felicitating him outside the jail in morning.

While granting the permission, Surat Police Commissioner Ashish Bhatia asked the organisers not to indulge in any activity which may cause law and order problem.

“We have granted them (organisers) permission to organise a road show with Hardik. We have asked them to follow all the conditions laid down by the High Court. We have also asked the leaders not to use any inflammatory or defamatory words in their speeches during the road show,” the commissioner said.

Surat PAAS convener Nikhil Savani has clarified that no public meeting will be held in Surat as announced on Wednesday.

“Earlier, we had planned to hold a public meeting also. But, we have dropped that idea and sought permission for the road show only. We will make sure that it does not create any trouble for anyone,” he said.

As per schedule released by PAAS, Mr Patel’s caravan will pass through different parts of Surat city, including Bhestan, Ring Road, Kapodra, Mini Bazar and Varachha area, which are mostly dominated by Patels.

Meanwhile, Mr Patel shot off a letter from jail asking his supporters to ensure that his felicitation does not create any law and order problems.

In his letter, which was shared with media by PAAS, Mr Patel said, “I learned that a large number of people will gather outside the jail to receive me. It is my humble request to my supporters to maintain law and order. Patel community believes in non-violence. We must try to maintain peace”.

DySP suicide: Opposition continues to disrupt Karnataka Assembly

July 15, 2016 by Nasheman

DySP Ganapathi

Bengaluru: As the standoff over the alleged suicide by a Deputy Superintendent of Police persisted, Opposition parties continued their protests in the Karnataka Assembly for the fifth day today, sticking to their demand for sacking Minister K J George and a CBI probe into the incident.

Continuing their overnight dharna in the House for the second day, BJP and JDS members shouted anti-government slogans from the well, refusing to settle for anything less than meeting their twin demands by the government.

As soon as the Assembly met, Opposition members entered the well of the House and raised slogans against the government for its “adamant” stand in protecting George.

Speaker K B Koliwada appealed to the members to maintain order and allow him to conduct Question Hour but it went unheeded.

As pandemonium prevailed, the Speaker adjourned the House till noon. As it re-assembled, the Opposition resumed protests.

Sensing the belligerent mood of the Opposition, government managed to secure passage of five bills, including Karnataka Police (Amendment) Bill 2016, without any debate amid din.

As the bills were being put to voice vote, Leader of the Opposition Jagadish Shettar said the government has thrown all Constitutional norms to the winds by introducing the bills and passing them today itself.

He also said it is ironical that the government is passing the Karnataka Police (Amendment) Bill, even as the entire state is “gripped” with Deputy SP M K Ganapathy’s suicide.

“Nothing is as shameful as this, that the government is introducing the bills and passing them in few minutes.”

“Itis also ironical, it is passing police bill even as the state is gripped in Ganapathy’s suicide case,” he added.

JDS member Y S V Datta also demanded the resignation of George.

Even as the Opposition raised slogans against the government, the Speaker after passage of the bills adjourned the proceedings to July 18.

Meanwhile speaking to reporters after the session, Shettar said BJP would continue its overnight dharna fromMonday.

BJP and JDS launched a day-night protest in the House on Wednesday, insisting on a CBI enquiry and sacking of George, named by deceased official Ganapathy along with two top police officials for his extreme step.

Ganapathy (51) was found hanging from the ceiling fan in a room at a lodge in Madikeri on July 7, prior to which he gave an interview to a local TV channel, saying the minister and A M Prasad (IG-Intelligence) and Pranab Mohanty (IGP- Lokayukta) would be responsible “if anything happens to me”.

Pune’s ‘gold man’ Datta Phuge beaten to death in front of son

July 15, 2016 by Nasheman

Datta Phuge

Pune: Datta Phuge, the Pune businessman who came to be known as the “gold man” after he was photographed in a pure gold shirt a few years ago, was allegedly beaten to death in front of his son late last night.

Mr Phuge, 48, was reportedly attacked by a dozen men who dragged him out of his car, struck him with a sickle and pounded him to death with huge stones before running away.

His 22-year-old son, who was also present, was spared by the attackers.

The police say Mr Phuge and his son were invited by one of the suspects for a birthday celebration.

A financial dispute is suspected to be the motive. Four persons have been detained. Some reports said his nephew is among them.

Four years ago, the high-profile businessman made a memorable image in a 22-carat gold shirt worth over Rs. one crore, with Swarovski crystal buttons and a matching gold belt. It was billed as the world’s most expensive shirt and designed to catch the eye easily.

The 3.5 kg shirt, crafted by 15 workmen from Bengal according to legend, did get him noticed.

Mr Phuge, a member of Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party, grabbed prime time space on many Marathi television channels.

The husband of a former civic corporator, Mr Phuge had a money-lending and chit fund business. Over the recent months, he had been accused of financial bungling.

Always opposed terrorism; Ready to face any probe: Dr Zakir Naik

July 15, 2016 by Shaheen Raaj

zakir naik skype

Mumbai: Rejecting allegations that his sermons “inspired” terror activity, physician-turned-preacher Dr Zakir Naik on Friday clarified that he never encouraged anyone to kill innocents and said he will cooperate with any probe agency if it approaches him.

Talking to media persons via Skype from Medinah, Dr Naik, who is facing the heat over allegations that he inspired some of the Dhaka cafe attackers, condemned all terror attacks and called himself as “a messenger of peace”.

“I did not inspire any terrorist… suicide bombings targeting innocent people are condemnable,” Dr. Naik said, adding his statements on terrorism and suicide bombings were “doctored and tampered”.

He said that he has proof to refute all baseless allegations against him.

The Islamic preacher dismissed as “misinformation” that he had ever advocated suicide bombings, saying he always condemned them since innocent people get killed and this is “anti-Islam”.

“However, it (suicide attacks) may be used as a tactic of war to save the country. In all other circumstances where innocents are targeted, it is condemnable.”

The 50-year-old Mumbai-based televangelist, who had earlier cancelled a press conference and had announced his visit to Africa from Saudi Arabia putting off his return to the country, challenged anyone to show him an unedited answer wherein he has not condemned suicide bombings.

Dr Naik also maintained that no government agency has approached him to join investigation in connection with charges levelled against him until now.

“I am willing to cooperate with any probe agency if they approach me,” he added.

He also recalled that he had even addressed IPS officials in the past.

Dr. Naik also stated that he applied for permission to air Peace TV, run by his Islamic Research Foundation, in 2008, but did not get the same as the channel allegedly was “Islamic“.

He also said that terrorists are misguiding innocent Muslims.

Gujarat Boy Hits B – Town With Love Ke Funday

July 15, 2016 by Shaheen Raaj

Harshvardhan Joshi

Harshvardhan Joshi’s dreams seem to be coming all true! “Who would’ve thought a law student from Gujarat would come to Mumbai and pursue his Bollywood dreams,” quips Harshvardhan who although moved to Mumbai to study Cyber Law but landed up with his debut Bollywood film Love Ke Funday produced by Faaiz Anwar & Prem Prakash Gupta of FRV Big Business Entertainment Pvt Ltd & Prem Motion Pictures.

“I was always interested in acting and would keep participating in modelling contests and what not. I made it into the Grooming Competition of NIFT and that was the turning point,” states Harshvardhan while further adding, “I then moved to Mumbai and joined this theater group called Karma Kala Manch and worked with Azad Bharti for 3 years. It was during this stint that Director Indervesh Yogee saw me in short stories of Desi Bamboo online YouTube viral network and offered me to audition for the role in Love Ke Funday.”

Moving from theater to films wasn’t that easy a transition for Harshvardhan who says, “I was used to slightly dramatic, theater style acting while for this film my role had to be very subtle. In fact ironically, mine was the most subtle, emotional, one woman man, part. So I had to learn how to underplay.”

Well, if underplay is what gets him the applause so be it because we surely think this Gujarat Boy is here to stay!

“Love Ke Funday is a real rollercoaster ride of entertainment:” Rishank Tiwari

July 15, 2016 by Shaheen Raaj

Rishank Tiwari

Rishank Tiwari, the dashing & the debonair dude, hails from Saugor hills in the heart of India, Madhya Pradesh and once he gained an instant limelighted recognition when he had bagged the crowning glory of being singled out as Mr. Madhya Pradesh in 2009. No doubt this crowning glory was a result of his own merit. His next step to stardom was when he bagged a Bollywood movie named Love Ke Funday, produced by lyricist Faaiz Anwar & Prem Prakash Gupta of FRV Big Business Entertainment Pvt Ltd & Prem Motion Movies.

*Hi Rishank tell us how did you make your foray in Bollywood?

*First of all let me start from the beginning I have a big loving family and with a big family comes big expectations. While different members of my family wanted to see me in different professions, I could only choose to become one of them. However, becoming an actor was the only way I could role play everything that my family wanted me to. This was where my love for becoming an actor began. Being a religious person, I started following my passion of acting very religiously! So, acting became my reason for living, it became my religion too.”

*So how did you bag such a lovely role in Love Ke Funday?

*Actually speaking this particular answer also needs a little elaboration. So to begin with let me inform you that I’ve done theatre for 3 and a half years. But like any other upcoming actor, I had to audition for the role of Love Ke Funday. I’m glad that my film makers acknowledged my talent and gave me a break. This is an exciting new beginning for me. I hope as my learning graph in the industry goes up, the entire film industry will accept this ‘small town boy’ wholeheartedly.

*It really sounds strange but debuting in a film is one thing and starring with 2 heroines in a single film Love Ke Funday is a different ball game altogether. What say?

*To be very honest it was indeed very difficult. But I consider myself lucky that I got a chance to act with 2 heroines namely Ritika Gulati & Samiksha Bhatnagar. In fact I am the only hero amongst the 4 of us who got a chance to romance with 2 heroines. That apart I strongly believe that acting is all about drawing inspiration from real life experiences but in the movie I’m shown to be a married guy who has a relationship with another girl outside of marriage! None of this has happened to me in real life but now it happened in reel life which made it all the more difficult to essay the complex yet enjoyable role but as they alway’s say that all’s well that end’s well.”

*Now tell us something about your producer Faiz Anwar, your director Indervesh Yogi and your co – stars Ritika Gulati, Samiksha Bhatnagar, Harshavardhan Joshi & Shaleen Bhanot.

*Faiz Anwaar Sir is not only a reputed lyricist but also a gem of a person as a producer. Inervesh Yogi is a very talented director just watch out for him in his future directorial ventures. I couldn’t have asked for a better producer and director for my debout film and as for the girls Ritika Gulati & Samiksha Bhatnagar they are also debutant actors like me and we have miles & miles to go before we succeed in making a mark in Bollywood and proving our perfect histrinics. But it was fun working with Ritika, Samiksha, Harshavardhan Joshi and a senior actor like Shaleen Bhanot. In fact I woud say that Love Ke Fundey is a real rollercoaster ride of entertainment.

Movie Review: ‘The Legend Of Tarzan’ maybe good enough as a one time watch

July 15, 2016 by Shaheen Raaj

The Legend Of Tarzan

Producer: Jerry Weintraub, David Barron, Alan Riche & Tony Ludwig
Director: David Yates
Star Cast: Alexander Skarsgård, Samuel L. Jackson, Margot Robbie, Djimon Hounsou, Jim Broadbent & Christoph Waltz
Music: Rupert Gregson – Williams & Hans Zimmer

Several movies have been crafted on the fictional character of Tarzan, which was originally conceived by popular author Edgar Rice Borroughs, till this date. But of course the latest version namely The Legend Of Tarzan directed by well – known director David Yates does a complete volte face as the legendary character Tarzan no longer resides in the dense jungle as an uneducated beastly character albeit a hunted species. But of late he has shifted & resides in the city. What happens to the Tarzan of the city is well worth watching on the celluloid silver screen at least once.

The original story of Tarzan is about a boy born & raised in the jungles of Africa. So the moment we hear the name Tarzan, we are fast taken back to our childhood when we would hear the story of a young boy who was raised by the beasts of the forest as one of them, until he falls in love with another beautiful girl, who just like him feels more at home in the dense jungles. However, The Legend Of Tarzan is a different story altogether. Unlike the popular story, this film starts off with Tarzan having given up his wild ways for a more peaceful & comfortable life in London as John Clayton III aka Lord Greystoke (Alexander Skarsgard) with his beloved wife Jane (Margot Robbie) at his side. But this time of peacefulness is fast shattered when he is invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of the Parliament, to investigate the activities at a mining encampment. Unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed & revenge, masterminded by the Belgian Captain Leon Rom (Christoph Waltz), Tarzan undertakes the journey putting all at stake.

Director David Yates efforts to change the entire scenario in The Legend Of Tarzan is laudable but the mnillion dollar question is will the modern day version of Tarzan be acceptable to today’s cine goers? Here, it must be pointed out that despite a story that keeps looping from past to present back & forth, director David Yates does well to give each timeline equal importance while simultaneously merging the 2 sans the usual confusion.

Performance wise Alexander Skarsgard as Tarzan is ok but he does fall short of the expectation bar that other past actor have raised who have literally lived the role and done complete justice to it. Margot Robbie as Jane seems to have been completely miscast. Christoph Waltz as Captain Leon Rom is perfect to the hilt. No doubt all the other actors have made their presence felt it is Samuel L Jackson’s character that is totally out of place.

Tail Piece: The Legend Of Tarzan maybe good enough as a one time watch but it fails to live upto the expectation of the Gen Next.

It’s official: Sheila Dikshit is Congress’ CM candidate in UP

July 14, 2016 by Nasheman

Sheila Dikhsit

New Delhi: Sheila Dikshit, who was Chief Minister of Delhi for 15 long years, will be the chief ministerial candidate of the Congress in Uttar Pradesh, the party announced on Thursday.

The announcement was made by Congress General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi at the party headquarters.

“For the first time your assumption has proved right,” he said, referring to media speculation that Dikshit, ousted from power in Delhi in December 2013, would be the face of the Congress in UP.

Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said the corruption allegations levelled against Dikshit did not matter since BJP’s Chief Ministers in other states too faced corruption charges.

Election strategist Prashant Kishor had recommended that Dikshit should play a major role in the party’s poll campaign in the state as she is a prominent Brahmin face and could help Congress regain support of the electorally sizeable community.

Dikshit is the daughter-in-law of prominent Congress leader from UP Uma Shankar Dikshit, who was a Brahmin face and had served as a Union minister and governor for a long time.

Earlier this month, Dikshit, a three-time Delhi Chief Minister, had said as UP’s “daughter-in-law” she was ready to play any role in the state.

Dikshit had met party President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi last month during which she was said to have been sounded by them for a leading role in UP.

The Brahmin community, a traditional vote bank of Congress, had shifted allegiance to BJP in the aftermath of the Mandir-Mandal politics and a section in Congress feels it should make efforts to win back the support of the community.

A large chunk of Brahmin votes had also gone to Mayawati’s BSP in the past when she gave tickets to many candidates belonging to the community.

The community’s support determines the poll outcome in several seats in central and eastern UP.

Case lodged against comedian Cyrus Broacha for hurting religious sentiments

July 14, 2016 by Nasheman

cyrus broacha

Bengaluru: A case was lodged on Thursday against comedian and TV host Cyrus Broacha in the court of the Chief Magistrate in Bengaluru for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of the Muslim community.

In a complaint lodged by one Mohammed Mujaheedulla, he has alleged that in the program ‘The News That Wasn’t’, hosted by Broacha on News 18 Channel, the comedian has made a mockery of the Holy Qur’an.

Mujaheedulla said that the content of the program has not only aggrieved and hurt him, but has also hurt the sentiments of Muslims in general.

The show in its latest episode has taken on Dr. Naik by having a character mockingly enact the way Dr. Naik quotes the Qur’an in his speeches. The character makes references to imaginary holy books in a comical manner, which Mujaheedulla alleges, is referred to the Qur’an.

The complainant has asked the court to direct the police to register a FIR against Broacha and the Editor of the news channel.

Dadri lynching: Court orders FIR against Akhlaq’s family for cow slaughter

July 14, 2016 by Nasheman

Mohammad Akhlaq Beef

New Delhi: In a big development, a local court in Greater Noida on Thursday ordered filing of an FIR against the family of Mohammad Akhlaq, who was lynched by a mob for allegedly slaughtering a cow.

The court has ordered that seven members of Akhlaq’s family be booked under relevant sections of the IPC. Cow slaughter is banned in Uttar Pradesh.

The development came after the accused in Akhlaq’s murder approached the court seeking FIR against Akhlaq’s family in view of the Mathura forensic laboratory report that confirmed that the meat sample taken from the refrigerator in Akhlaq’s house was beef and not that of goat, as suggested earlier.

Akhlaq, 52, was beaten to death and injured his son Danish after dragging them out of their home in Bishada village of Gautam Budh Nagar district on September 28, 2015 following rumours that he and his family had stored and consumed beef.

The issue had triggered a fierce debate over intolerance in the country.

A total of 19 persons are accused of lynching Akhlaq. Of these, one was given a clean chit by police and let off. Sixteen accused are still lodged in jail.
