Relief for Sonia, Rahul in National Herald case as HC denies documents to Swamy

July 12, 2016 by Nasheman

sonia-rahul-gandhi

New Delhi: In a big relief to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald Case, the Delhi High Court today set aside trial court’s order summoning documents from the ministries of finance and corporate Affairs and other agencies and balance sheet of the party for 2010-2011.

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy had moved the high court to get access to the documents submitted my the ministry of corporate affairs, ministry of finance and other department in the matter. Congress leaders had challenged the order.

Swamy had told the high court that he needs access to the documents for arguments in the case.

A Delhi Court had on March 11 given its nod to Swamy’s plea, seeking the balance sheets of the Indian National Congress (INC) and Associated Journals Pvt Limited (AJL) for the purpose of investigation in this case.

What is National Herald case

Swamy had accused Sonia, Rahul and others of conspiring to cheat and misappropriate funds by just paying Rs 50 lakh by which Young Indian Pvt Ltd.obtained the right to recover Rs 90.25 crore which the AJL had owed to the Congress.

Besides the Congress president and her son, Motilal Vora, Oscar Fernandes, Suman Dubey and Sam Pitroda are the other accused in this case.

Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, who had appeared before a trial court, in the case were granted unconditional bail in December last year. The Gandhis were, however, asked to furnish a personal bond of Rs 50,000 and a surety of same amount respectively.

Maha Intelligence Dept. gives clean chit to Dr Zakir Naik, no arrest on return to India

July 12, 2016 by Nasheman

zakir naik

Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Intelligence Department (SID) has given a clean chit to Dr Zakir Naik as it found no strong evidence to link the founder and president of the Islamic Research Foundation to terror-related activities.

SID, who was handling the investigation of the Dr. Zakir Naik case ordered by the Maharashtra government found no reason to register a case against the televangelist for now and will not and cannot be detained the preacher on his return to India based on the evidence against him, said a report on Tuesday.

The SID, as a part of his preliminary probe, has studied hundreds of YouTube videos and speeches given by Dr. Naik in and out of India and concluded that no case can be made out against him, except the charge of hurting religious sentiments.

“There is no case to be made out against the English-speaking preacher, except maybe the possible charge of hurting religious sentiments, but even that cannot be established from his speeches. We are tracking his movements and only if he speaks out of turn, can we ‘pin’ him down on a charge. For now, we are closely monitoring him,” a senior police official was quoted as saying by the Hindu.
The founder of Mumbai-based Islamic Research Foundation became the centre of a controversy after reports emerged that perpetrators of the Dhaka terror attack were inspired by the preacher.

Shiv Sena has demanded arrest of Naik on his landing in India and dismantling of his TV network.

Meanwhile,Samajwadi Party Maharashtra unit President Abu Azmi came in support of Naik and sought to know why action has not been taken for the last 25 years if his speeches are inspiring terrorists, and called for a fair inquiry into charges against him.

Euro 2016: Portugal crowned champions after Cristiano Ronaldo goes off injured

July 11, 2016 by Nasheman

Stade de France: Portugal gatecrashed France’s Euro 2016 party to win the European Championship for the first time in its history — and all this without leading star Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Real Madrid forward was forced out of the game with a knee injury in the first half, but Portugal regrouped and thanks to some heroic goalkeeping from Rui Patricio took the game into extra time before Eder struck with 11 minutes to go.

Portugal’s 1-0 win was all the more remarkable given in their previous 10 meetings — France had won all of them.

“Simple as doves and as wise as serpents,” is how Portugal coach Fernando Santos characterized his team’s success at Euro 2016.

France hit the post late on in normal time, but so too did Portugal just before Eder’s goal when Raphael Guerreiro’s exquisite free kick came back off the crossbar.
The win was testament to a remarkable group ethic after Ronaldo was taken off on a stretcher following a robust tackle by Dimitri Payet on eight minutes.
Twice Ronaldo tried to hobble back on the pitch before he collapsed, distraught and in tears as he conceded his tournament had come to a premature end.
The huge ovation he was given by the Stade de France crowd — French and Portuguese fans alike — must have been scant consolation given the pivotal role he has played in this side for over a decade since making his international debut as an 18-year-old.
“Terrible to see Cris come off like that,” tweeted Ronaldo’s Real Madrid teammate Gareth Bale and no wonder given many had billed this as the crowning moment of Ronaldo’s career as an international player.
Twelve years ago he was also left in tears after Euro 2004 host Portugal was surprisingly beaten 1-0 by Greece.
True, France might have been favorites to win this final given its home advantage, but this was a real opportunity for Ronaldo to showcase his talents in an international final and add to the countless starring roles he has produced for Real Madrid.
In the end given the prodigious efforts of his teammates it didn’t matter and Ronaldo, despite his injury, was well enough to jump up off the bench to join in the celebrations when Eder scored.
Portugal’s fans certainly hadn’t forgotten their talisman and as the clock ticked down they chanted his name again and again.
With Ronaldo out of the picture, Patricio was consistently on hand to thwart France, notably in saving a couple of fierce shots from Moussa Sissoko, who had an outstanding game.
Central defenders Pepe — named man of the match — and Jose Ponte were also key to Portugal’s defensive obdurateness.
Pepe described Portugal’s win as a victory of the “humble,” while France coach Didier Deschamps paid tribute to the victors’ organization.
“The winner always deserves it,” said France coach Didier Deschamps. “You can analyze things but they didn’t get to the final by chance.
“This is the first time I think that a team finished third in their group and ended up as champions.”
Portugal coach Santos added: “I always said we were a team. I told them we have a lot of quality and talent. But first we have to run and fight.”

Shami gets Rs 2.2 crore for loss of pay in IPL 2015

July 11, 2016 by Nasheman

Shami

Mumbai: India and Bengal pace bowler Mohammed Shami has been paid a compensation of over Rs 2.2 crore last month for having missed the 2015 Indian Premier League (IPL) season due to a knee injury despite which he played in the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

As per the BCCI’s June, 2016 payments of over Rs 25 lakh, available on bcci.tv, Shami was paid Rs 2,23,12,500 for “Loss of pay for IPL season 2015 due to injury.”

Shami had played in the entire World Cup 2015 in Australia and New Zealand and in the preceding Test series in the former country with pain.He was among the leading bowlers for the country in the mega event and played a crucial role in India reaching the semi finals of the World Cup.

The decision to play despite an injury cost him heavily as he was unable to play in the 2015 IPL season and underwent a surgery. The BCCI has now compensated the 25-year-old UP-born paceman for his dedication to the country’s cause. In the World Cup, he picked up 17 wickets in five games and was the fifth-best bowler in the competition.

Shami, who later suffered a hamstring injury when India visited Australia in January this year and missed the Asia Cup T20 championship, is now in the West Indies as a member of the Virat Kohli-led squad that is to engage the hosts in a four-Test rubber.

Among other details put up by the BCCI are amounts paid as match fees for officials for this year’s IPL and the list includes former Test fast bowler Javagal Srinath (Rs 26 lakh) and ex-Kerala Ranji Trophy leg spinner K N Ananthapadmanabhan (Rs 26 lakh).

Several cricket associations affiliated to the BCCI, including permanent Test centres Mumbai CA, Cricket Association of Bengal and Tamil Nadu CA, have been given varying amounts exceeding Rs 25 lakh as their dues.

Zakir Naik is being hunted: Muslim League

July 11, 2016 by Nasheman

Muslim League

Kozhikode: Controversial Mumbai-based Islamic preacher Zakir Naik on Sunday got support from Kerala’s Indian Union Muslim League, which claimed he had always spoken against terrorism and was now being “hunted”.

Addressing reporters here after a meeting of the leaders of the IUML, the Congress-led United Democratic Front’s second-biggest constituent, its Lok Sabha member E.T. Mohammed Basheer said that Naik is being hunted.

“The Maharashtra Chief Minister (Devendra Fadnavis) and some Union Ministers are prejudiced in their outlook that something is wrong and this is against the principles of expression of freedom. He has always taken a position against terrorism,” he said.

The central government on Friday launched a multi-pronged probe into controversies around the speeches and “online sermons” of Naik with the Union Home Ministry seeking investigation by intelligence agencies while Information and Broadcasting minister M. Venkaiah Naidu personally met top officials on the issue.

Naik, who heads NGO Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), also runs Peace TV channel but the government on Saturday said that it is not permitted by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to downlink and warned the cable operators that action will be taken for transmitting it.

SDPI condemns vilifying campaign against Dr. ZakirNaik, calls it a conspiracy

July 11, 2016 by Nasheman

zakir naik

New Delhi: The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) today condemned the media campaign against Dr. Zakir Naik, a medical practitioner-turned-preacher, and called it a conspiracy hatched up by the saffron brigade supported by its cohorts in the media to malign Dr. Naik.

Elyas Thumbe, national general secretary of SDPI in a statement said that the Union Government has started a crackdown on Dr Naik’s Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) and Peace TV with the aid of a section of prejudiced media who are showing his statements cut in half and false allegations are being made against him since he speaks with evidence that idol worship is not allowed even in Hinduism and advocates monotheism.

“ He is a well-known orator in comparative religion. Let police and government agencies carry on proper investigation. It is a sad commentary by some anchors of news channels who want action against Dr. Naik without any inquiry, whatsoever”, he said.

Thumbe said propagation of mass lies and falsehood without any investigation can never be a criterion to defeat truth and justice. Dr. Zakir Naik always told people of all religions to forget their differences and come together based on commonality between them. He always advocated Muslims to spread peace to all. He never said to blow up innocents in the name of terrorism.

Thumbe expressed concern that BJP in power at the Centre and in Maharashtra is clearly making Dr. Zakir Naik a scapegoat, who is a man of impeccable knowledge, not only Islam, but Hinduism, Sikhism and Christianity as well.

“Dr. Naik always gives evidential references from Vedas and compares the present day followings with what is written in their scriptures. But it seems like RSS wants to keep Hindus away from gaining knowledge of Vedas and Upanishads so they do not open their mind and think. Dr. Naik’s only fault is that he makes best attempts to open peoples mind which could get them out of their superstitious religiosity and this is not digestible to RSS and its affiliates”, he added.

He further said that if one imagines police found a copy of “My Experiments with Truth” with a terrorist, then only a morally depraved person or a person with evil intentions can interpret as Mahatma Gandhi inspired him to be a terrorist.

“If a non-Muslim does something bad it is termed crime. However, if a Muslim commits the same crime he is labelled terrorist. So, Modi’s mere words disassociating religion from terrorism would not suffice unless acted upon so that this double standard could be removed”, he concluded.

Movie Review: ‘Sultan’ is the ultimate supertainment which will be literally enjoyed both by the classes as well as the masses

July 11, 2016 by Shaheen Raaj

sultan

Banner: Yash Raj Films
Producer: Aditya Chopra
Director: Ali Abbas Zafar
Star Cast: Salman Khan, Anushka Sharma, Amit Sadh, Randeep Hooda, Kumud Mishra, Parikshat Sahni, Anant Vidhaat Sharma, Sumeet Samnani, Abhishek Duhan, Farrukh Jaffer, Naveen Kumar, Monica Verma, Satish Sharma, Parvez Mullan, Meiyang Chang, Kubraa Sait, Shibani Dandekar, Suzie et al
Music: Vishal – Shekhar

Salman Khan’s Sultan is strongly backed by none other than producer Aditya Chopra of Yash Raj Films & director Abbas Ali Jafar and the duo needs no special introduction. Needless to add that they have reposed their complete faith in the Starry Power of Salman Khan and his extreme dedication to his work especially as far as his role of Sultan is concerned. So this time around Salman Khan too has not let them down and literally got into the fleshy skin of the character of the wrestler Sultan Ali Khan. Hats off to the trio of Salman Khan, Aditya Chopra & Abbas Ali Johar. In fact Salman Khan has painstakingly enacted the entire gamut of Sultan Ali Khan besides adding his own nuances & intonations to bring the character of Sutan Ali Khan alive. So much so that one can’t even imagine any other star to take his place as Sultan Ali Khan. Once again 3 cheers to the trio of Salman Khan, Aditya Chopra & Abbas Ali Jafar. But of course maybe not necessarily in that particular order.

The carefully as well as sensitively woven scripted scenario of Sultan, which is indeed a touching tale of the rise and fall and rise of a wrestler Sultan Ali Khan and his quest to win back his true love, kick starts with Aakash Oberoi (Amit Sadh) trying to save his failing business of Pro – Take Down, a sort of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), freestyle wrestling tournament with a player who can change the fate of his business. His father Mr. Oberoi (Parikshit Sahni) recommends him to go and meet Sultan Ali Khan, who was once upon time a world champion wrestler, in order to save his disastrous business. Aakash Oberoi sets out to convince Sultan Ali Khan to enter the wrestling ring again. Further on Sultan Ali Khan’s attitude inspires Aakash Oberoi to further investigate the story of this once upon a time champion wrestler. Sultan Ali Khan, who was once an aimless man dabbling with cable TV business, finds his passion for wrestling when he falls head over heels in love with the fierce & the independent wrestler Aarfa (Anushka Sharma), daughter of a famous wrestling coach (Kumud Mishra) who teaches the sport in an authentic & rustic Indian akhada. Their love story turns into marriage after Sultan Ali Khan turns into a passionate wrestler who gears up to take down the world with his unique moves & punches at the right places of his opponent in the ring and starts winning championships left, right & centre. As pride takes over the mind of a talented Sultan Ali Khan, a loss of his loved one reduces his fame to ashes. And after a couple of years an attempt to regain his lost love & respect in the eyes of Aarfa, Sultan Ali Khan once again takes up a challenge. He joins Aakash Oberoi to fight against the world champions of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and now he is ready to go to any lengths to regain everything he has lost. And all through the movie his life’s best friend Gobind (Anant Vidhaat Sharma) becomes Sultan’s support system.

The premise of the story of Sultan interestingly hooks the cine goers right from the “The Start” till “The End” and full marks for the entire proceedings to the director Abbas Ali Jafar. No doubt Abbas Ali Zafar’s directorial skills have remarkably improved since his previous films. That apart he has extracted a full on performances from his stars as well as his technical team which includes music composers duo of Vishal – Shekhar (Some of the foot tapping & soulful number comprises of my personal favourites like “Baby Ko Bass Pasand Hai”, “Jag Ghoomeya”, “Bulleya”, “Tuk Tuk”, 440 Volt sung by Salman Khan himself & above all the title track of “Sultan”), cinematographer Artur Zurawski, action choreographer Larnell Stovall & above all editor Rameshwar S. Bhagat.

Performance wise Salman Khan offers a mixed bag of delight comprising of emotion, action, sadness, anger, comical banters, romanticism, energy, exhaustion (result of excessive training & real fights both in the indian akhada & western styled Mixed Martial Arts ring) added & abetted by his perfect body language topped with his excellent Haryanvi accent. No doubt Salman Khan has delivered a marvellous act, the best of his career till this date, by adding his own touch of finesse. And last but not the least Salman Khan has also worked very hard on his physique and the action scenes looks just superb. Anushka Sharma, the Bangalorean girl has finally proved that she is not a flash in the pan actress to be taken for granted. She has proved her extreme potential with NH10 and now with Sultan she has endorsed the fact that she is an extremely gifted actress by enacting a power packed performance of Arafa the woman wrestler and then as a saddened wife who has lost her love besides her newly born baby boy. She also matches upto Salman Khan’s Sultan act. Randeep Hooda, after Sarbjit is picture perfect as a martial arts expert. Amit Sadh as a business tycoon trying to establish his business too, has given a noteworthy performance. That apart all the other actors like Kumud Mishra, Parikshat Sahni, Sumeet Samnani, Abhishek Duhan, Farrukh Jaffer, Naveen Kumar, Monica Verma, Satish Sharma, Parvez Mullan, Meiyang Chang, Kubraa Sait, Shibani Dandekar, Suzie et al have literally lived their individual roles which were such an integral part of Sultan. And last but not the least I must make a well – deserved mention of Anant Vidhaat Sharma’s excellent portrayal of Salman Khan’s best friend Gobind who becomes Sultan’s support system through out the movie.

Tail Piece: Salman Khan, with his last release Bajrangi Bhaijan and now with Sultan, has carried forward his Super Stardom and with his supertainment act he has once again given the “Best Eid Gift” to his global fans. No doubt he has also proved beyond doubt that he is the real Sultan of Bollywood amongst all the Khan actors put together.
