When Joy Cosmetics approached me, I felt it was a prank but fell in love with the whole story. I thoroughly enjoyed the process of the TVC shoot, something which was a very 1st for me. In the past there were products like ghee, truck, atta et al which was offered to me but endorsing a body lotion has been a welcome change”.The concept, story & script of this TVC was developed by Poulomi Roy Head Brand & Communication (Marketing Consultant). Says Paulomi, “Choosing Bharti was a well thought out process and we are happy because she believed in the story and she went her extra length to support this campaign”.

POOJA CHOPRA IS VERY EXCITED WITH THE RESPONSE FOR ACTING IN SHORT FILM ‘OUCH’

The 1st call that came from Neeraj Pandey himself had me most exited & dancing through the day. I have always wanted to work with, so there was no way I would have let this opportunity pass by me then the added pressure was to perform to the best of my ability. It wasn’t easy knowing the fact that Manoj Bajpayee & I would be sharing screen space with, and the film would be directed by Neeraj Pandey. Although a short film, I knew and was determined to do my best, cold feet & nervous at first but then you tell yourself this is not the time to be nervous it’s time to prove yourself, exactly what I had told myself before the Miss India pageant. The few days of workshop & shoot itself had me in complete awe of him the way he thinks is what makes him who he is. He guided me through the process there was so much to learn from him and I tried to soak in as much as I could. Manoj Bajpayee although a senior & a seasoned actor made me feel at ease, passion for the craft & dedication is what shines through him. I feel extremely fortunate to have worked with such stalwarts in my career. At the moment everyone’s positive reaction to the film is what’s keeping me happy & beaming with joy.

‘LIPSTICK UNDER MY BURKHA’ 1ST TRAILER UNVEILED ONLINE

The 1st trailer for LIPSTICK UNDER MY BURKHA was recently released online. Directed by Alankrita Shrivastava & produced by Prakash Jha, the film stars Konkona Sensharma, Ratna Pathak Shah, Aahana Kumra & Plabita Borthakur in lead roles along with Sushant Singh, Vikrant Massey, Shashank Arora, Vaibbhav Tatwawdi & Jagat Singh Solanki. The film follows 4 feisty women, from the bustling by lanes of old Bhopal, secretly chasing their dreams & rebelling in small ways against the conventional identities they are boxed in. LIPSTICK UNDER MY BURKHA explores the many shades of female desire. “As women we often have secret dreams, nurtured by the pulpy romantic fantasies that we discover through films, books, songs and things we see around us. But there is a deeper desire that is perhaps inherent in our very beings. That is what I have tried to explore through the film,” says director Alankrita Shrivastava. Producer Prakash Jha adds: “There is love & sex, romance & heartbreak, ambition & passion. But most of all, the film is about the small dreams of these 4 women, who are trapped in the claustrophobia of their lives. In the dichotomy between tradition & modernity, what happens to female desire – and how long can it be contained? This story was so compelling that I knew it had to be made.” Konkona says: “It is rare to get to work on a film that explores what women want, and does so with lightness, humor & color. I am looking forward to everyone watching it!”

RAKESH ROSHAN’S K FACTOR

In their initial years as filmmakers, Karan Johar & Ekta Kapoor titled most of their productions with “K”. While they are no longer partial to the alphabet, one filmmaker who has stuck to it for nearly 3 decades is Rakesh Roshan. The light – eyed actor forayed into production with hits like AAP KE DEEWANE & Kaamchor. When he was making JAAG UTHA INSAAN, a fan wrote to him suggesting he should title his movies with “K”. The filmmaker didn’t pay heed and JAAG UTHA INSAAN as well as his following production, BHAGWAN DADA, didn’t do well at the box office. That’s when he revisited the fan’s letter which pointed out how some of his biggest hits were films that began with “K” like KHOOBSURAT, KAAMCHOR, KHEL KHEL MEIN, KHATTA MEETHA & KHADAAN. After KHUDGARZ became a super hit, Roshan decided to stick to his lucky mascot. The success of most of his films, like KHOON BHARI MAANG, KALA BAZAAR, KISHEN KANHAIYA, KHEL, KARAN ARJUN, KOYLA, KAHO NAA PYAAR HAI, KOI MIL GAYA, KRRISH & KRRISH 3 has further consolidated his belief. The filmmaker is now set for his next production, KAABIL, helmed by Sanjay Gupta and slated for release on
26th Jan, 2017. Roshan avers, “All these films I made comfortably, without any problems. Plus most of these films worked for me. Even though KING UNCLE didn’t fare as well as expected, I enjoyed making it. Considering that most of the “K” films worked, I thought, why not stick to this alphabet.” The filmmaker reveals that he has registered over 50 titles with “K”. “I won’t make all those films. That’s for Hrithik to decide which he wants to make,” he says. Interestingly, Roshan also retains the title KAINAAT, which he had registered for the Salman Khan – Shah Rukh Khan starrer, which he re – titled as KARAN – ARJUN. He also had the title KAL KISNE DEKHA, which he happily gave to Vashu Bhagnani for his Jackky Bhagnani film.

“I am very confident about my movie 2016 The End” Writer – Director – Producer Jaideep Chopra

November 4, 2016 by Shaheen Raaj

jaideep-chopra

Jaideep Chopra, an Indian film director, hailing from Delhi happens to be a self – made man and since he was very passionate about films since a very long time. He decided to jump on to the bandwagon of Bollywood directors. Besides he did not want to wait endlessly to get a decent directorial break, so he launched his own Production House namely Jaideep Chopra Production and began his filmic career with a film titled Maazii which he also wrote, directed & produced under his own banner. Now Jaideep Chopra is ready with his 2nd directorial venture titled “2016 The End” once again written, directed & produced by him.

To begin with how about giving us an insight into your upcoming film “2016 The End”?
My upcoming film “2016 The End” is a rollicking comic saga about 4 friends, who discover one day that the world is coming to an end, that too just in 7 days. All the 4 friends hail from different background as well as different strata of society and suddenly realization dawns on them that they have just 7 days left to live and also to fulfill all their dreams, desires and fantasies.

There have been many big screens as well as small screen ventures based on this similar concept. So how different will be your film “2016 The End”?

Yes! That’s true. But you see every director has his own perception, besides his own style of presentation. Like in my latest offering “2016 The End”, every character has his own dreams, desires and fantasies but in his tension filled day to day life all his dreams, desires and fantasies remain unfulfilled. But these 4 friends start planning their life, little realizing that they have a limited time to live and then all of a sudden even their priorities change.

This is 2016 do you think the world will really come to an “End” by the end of this year?

Who knows? May be yes or maybe no!!! But in my movie the world really comes to an “End”. The basic premise of my movie “2016 The End” is that there is no point in living with false hopes and being tensed up all the time and keep on planning our future when we don’t even know if will still be living for the next moment, the next hour, the next day and so on and so forth. So enjoy living your day to day life by always “Being Happy” come what may. These are all the aspects that my movie “2016 The End” will project and once you see the movie, hopefully you will get all your answers.

How would you describe the one liner of your movie “2016 The End”?

First of all let me clear the air of all the assumptions about my movie that may be made. I strongly believe and stress on the fact that “2016 The End” is not at all a routine, run of the mill movie. Let me assure you that “2016 The End” is a perfect comedy movie. It will also be not out of place to say that “2016 The End” is a laugh riot, in fact a totally entertaining rollercoaster joy ride. My actors are so happy working on this project with me that the next time whenever I plan another movie they won’t even bother to ask me for a one liner narration.

Time to reveal about the cast and the credits of “2016 The End”!

My upcoming film “2016 The End” stars Divyendu Sharma (of “Pyar Ka Panchnama”), Kiku Sharda (Superstar of the Small Screen arena), Harshad Chopra (also a Superstar of the Small Screen), Priya Bannerjee, Rahul Roy (of “Aashiqui” fame, Narendra Jha and Supriya Karnik and the credits of “2016 The End” include written, directed and produced by Jaideep Chopra under his own home production banner namely Jaideep Chopra Production, editing by Rameshwar S. Bhagat, art by Shraddha & Prashant, cinematography by Karan Rawat, choreography by Arvind Thakur and Sujit, music by Agnel Roman and Faizan Hussain and the singers are Lyla, Vishaal Kothari, Benny Dayal and meenal Jain.

Delhi courts issue 2 NBWs against Vijay Mallya

New Delhi: Two non-bailable arrest warrants were issued against liquor baron Vijay Mallya by separate Delhi courts on Friday in cases of an alleged violation of foreign exchange rules and a 2012 dud cheque.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sumit Dass issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against Mallya after he did not appear in the court for scheduled hearing. The court fixed the matter for December 22 for further hearing.

The court was hearing the final arguments in the 2000 case related to alleged violation by Mallya of provisions of the erstwhile Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA) in arranging funds to advertise his company’s liquor products abroad.

The Enforcement Directorate on October 4 told the court here that Mallya can obtain emergency travel document to visit India and can face a case of alleged violation of foreign exchange rules against him.

Mallya on September 9 sought exemption from personal appearance in court and said he is unable to return to the country and face trial in a case of alleged violation of foreign exchange rules as the Indian authorities had suspended his passport.

On July 9, the court asked Mallya to personally appear before it on September 9, after allowing the Enforcement Directorate (ED) plea to withdraw the exemption given to him from personal appearance in the case.

Mallya’s counsel has moved a plea seeking exemption from his personal appearance and told the court that his client is living in London.

Earlier, the court had allowed the ED plea to seek recall of a court order that granted permanent exemption from appearance to Mallya, who faces money laundering charges in India.

According to the ED, Mallya allegedly paid $200,000 to a British firm for displaying the Kingfisher logo in the Formula One World Championships in London and some European countries in 1996, 1997 and 1998.

The agency had claimed that the money was allegedly paid without prior approval from the Reserve Bank of India, in violation of the FERA norms.

Mallya was summoned and tried in the case. He was granted exemption from personal appearance by the Delhi court on December 20, 2000.

In the other case of bounced cheque, Metropolitan Magistrate Sumeet Anand on August 6 issued the NBW, directing the Ministry of External Affairs to send it to Mallya as he is reportedly in London.

After Mallya failed to appear before the court on Friday, Magistrate Anand issued a fresh NBW against him and listed the matter for February 4, 2017, for further hearing.

Earlier, a trial court issued a summons to Mallya after a complaint by Delhi International Airport Ltd, which operates Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, claiming that a cheque for Rs 1 crore issued by grounded Kingfisher Airlines (KFA) on February 22, 2012, was returned a month later with a “funds insufficient” remark.

DIAL had filed four cases in June 2012 against Mallya over the KFA’s cheques totalling Rs 7.5 crore were not honoured by banks.

The KFA had issued the cheques towards payment for services availed by it at the IGI Airport.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has “completely recovered” and it is up to her to decide when to go home, Apollo Hospitals Chairman Pratap C Reddy said here today.

“All I can say is, very clearly, she is very satisfied… What I mean by very satisfied, that means she has completely recovered. She is aware of what is going on around her,” he told reporters.

“She is completely aware of what is happening. Asks and demands what she wants and I believe and everybody, even she, is looking forward when she will go home and take back the reigns,” he said.

Jayalalithaa was admitted to the corporate hospital on September 22 after she complained of fever and dehydration.

Later, the hospital had said she was being treated for infection with respiratory support, among others.

Specialists from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, and from London, among others, have treated her during the period.
Apollo Hospitals, in its last medical bulletin on October 21, had said Jayalalithaa was “interacting and progressing gradually”.

Ever since her hospitalisation, state ministers and AIADMK cadres have been organising special pujas at various temples across the state, praying for her speedy recovery.

Prayers had also been held in places of religious worship in Erode and Karur, among others.

“The divine blessings were on Jayalalithaa as scores of party workers had held prayers for her speedy recovery,” AIADMK spokesperson C R Saraswathy had said.

Late last week, an official document had stated that Jayalalithaa used her left thumb impression in the election document of her party nominee for November 19 bypoll to Thirupparankundram as she had an “inflamed right hand”.

The document was attested by Dr P Balaji, Prof of Minimal Access Surgery, Madras Medical College and Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital and signed by Dr Babu K Abraham of Apollo Hospitals as witness.

A galaxy of political leaders, including BJP chief Amit Shah, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, DMK treasurer M K Stalin, besides film personalities like Rajinikanth and Kushboo, who is also the Congress spokesperson, had visited the CM.

One-day ban on NDTV India slammed by pol parties, media bodies

November 4, 2016 by Nasheman

New Delhi: The one-day ban on a leading Hindi TV channel ‘NDTV India’ by the Centre over its coverage of Pathankot attack drew sharp condemnation today from opposition parties and media bodies which called it “shocking and authoritarian” and reminiscent of Emergency days.

The leaders of the non-BJP parties and the media bodies also demanded immediate withdrawal of the order imposing the blackout on November 9.

There was also a suggestion by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh that all newspapers and channels “show courage” and “go off air and not publish” on that day to register their protest.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said the order of the inter-ministerial panel of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry showed that an emergency-like situation prevailed in the country while Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi slammed it as “shocking and unprecedented”.

The Editors Guild of India condemned the order as a “direct violation” of the freedom of the press and similar sentiments were echoed by the Broadcast Editors’ Association (BEA).

NDTV while terming the order as “shocking” has alleged that it has been “singled out” and said it is examining all options in the matter.

“The Editors Guild of India strongly condemns the unprecedented decision of the inter-ministerial committee of the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to take NDTV India off the air for a day and demands that the order be immediately rescinded,” the Guild said in a statement.

“The decision to take the channel off the air for a day is a direct violation of the freedom of the media and therefore the citizens of India and amounts to harsh censorship imposed by the government reminiscent of the Emergency.”

The BEA while expressing deep concern at the government’s decision said imposing a ban is a violation of freedom of expression.

Alleging that the government action smacked of “authoritarianism and intimidation”, Rahul and other Congress leaders hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Detaining opposition leaders, blacking out tv channels- all in a day’s work in Modiji’s India. NDTVBanned-shocking and unprecedented (sic),” the Congress Vice President said on twitter.

Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel, who is also political secretary to party president Sonia Gandhi, said, “Government’s decision to ban NDTV India smacks of authoritarianism and intimidation.”

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah lashed out at the Centre, asking if these were the promised “achhe din (good days)”.

“NDTV ban is shocking. If Government had issues with Pathankot coverage, there are provisions available. But ban shows an Emergency-like attitude.,” Banerjee said in a statement in Kolkata.

“I hope the whole media goes off air for a day in solidarity wid NDTV. Congratulations to Editors Guild for showing courage to stand up against Modi Govt’s dictatorship,” Kejriwal tweeted.

Ratan Tata most corrupt chairman in Tata history: BJP MP Subramanian Swamy

November 3, 2016 by Nasheman

subramanian-swamy-on-ratan-tata

Raipur: BJP Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy has described Ratan Tata as the most corrupt chairman in the history of the Tata group.

“The most corrupt person in Tata history is Ratan Tata. He is not even a Tata, as his father was an adopted child,” he said.

“Ratan Tata is doing injustice with Cyrus Mistry. Two months back, the entire board appreciated the work of the Cyrus Mistry and it could be his (Ratan Tata’s) jealousy that prompted the action,” he added.

Swamy told reporters in Raipur that Ratan Tata has been involved in various scams like the 2G scam, Air Asia scam, the Vistara partnership and the Jaguar deal.

“He has taken the step to save himself from getting caught in scam deals, but he will not be spared whenever he is tried in court,” the BJP leader said.

Swamy said, “The government should intervene and set up an SIT. I have written to the Prime Minister and informed him about the sections involved where Ratan Tata has breached the Indian Penal Code.”

Tata Sons has accused Mistry, who was appointed chairman in 2012, of making “unsubstantiated claims and malicious allegations” post his sacking. Mistry has accused the company of governance failures and unacceptable interference by Ratan Tata in running the affairs of the group.

Myanmar arms non-Muslim civilians in Rakhine

November 3, 2016 by Nasheman

Rights groups say recruitment of residents to counter alleged threat of Rohingya fighters will lead to more abuses.

Authorities in Myanmar say security forces have begun arming and training non-Muslim residents in the north of Rakhine state to counter an allegedly growing threat from fighters belonging to the ethnic Rohingya minority group.

Human rights advocates say the move could lead to more conflict and abuses against civilians in Rakhine.

Colonel Sein Lwin, Rakhine police chief, told Reuters news agency on Wednesday that his force had started recruiting new “regional police” from among Buddhist Rakhine and other non-Muslim ethnic minorities in the border town of Maungdaw.

Candidates who did not meet the educational attainment standards, or criteria such as minimum height, required for recruitment by the regular police would be accepted for the scheme, he said.

“But they have to be the residents,” said Sein Lwin. “They will have to serve at their own places.”

Min Aung, a minister in Rakhine parliament and a member of Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy party, said only citizens would be eligible to sign up for the police training, ruling out the 1.1 million Rohingya living in Rakhine, who are denied citizenship by the government.

Police will also start recruiting civilians in Sittwe, Rakhine state’s capital, next week.

Lin Lin Oo, a police official, said that initially 100 recruits aged between 18 and 35 would undergo an accelerated 16-week training programme in Sittwe on November 7.

Authorities said the auxiliary recruits would not form a new “people’s militia”, like those that fight in ethnic conflicts elsewhere in Myanmar.

Such militias – which are often accused of abuses against civilians – raise their own funds and are overseen by the army. The new recruits in Rakhine will be paid and come under the control of the border police.

Communal tensions

Human rights organisations and a leader of the stateless Rohingya told Reuters that the move risked sharpening intercommunal tensions in a region that has just seen its deadliest month since 2012, when hundreds of people were killed in clashes between Muslims and ethnic Rakhine Buddhists.

Soldiers have poured into the northern region along Myanmar’s frontier with Bangladesh following attacks on three border posts on October 9 in which nine police officers were killed.

Security forces have locked down the area – shutting out aid workers and independent observers – and conducted sweeps of villages in Maungdaw, where the vast majority are Rohingya.

Official reports say five soldiers and 33 alleged fighters have been killed.

The UN has called for an investigation into allegations that security forces have killed, raped and arbitrarily detained thousands of Rohingya civilians and razed their homes to the ground in a crackdown following the October 9 attacks.

The government has denied abuses by troops.

The military has also recently forced hundreds of Rohingya to flee their houses.

Ethnic Rakhine political leaders have urged the government to arm local Buddhists against what they say is rising security threats from Rohingya fighters.

“The minority ethnic people need to protect themselves from hostile neighbors,” said Min Aung, referring to non-Muslim ethnicities who are in a minority in the region.

“That’s why the government supports them as regional police, as well as with employment.”

Aung San Suu Kyi’s government has invited diplomats and the senior United Nations representative in the country on a visit to Rakhine from Wednesday to try to assuage concerns over aid access and rights violations.

But international experts working to rebuild relations in Rakhine, and human rights groups, say arming and training local non-Muslims could make the situation on the ground worse.

“It’s sad and telling that the authorities regard this move as part of a security solution,” said Matthew Smith, founder of Fortify Rights, an advocacy group.

Arming local Buddhists who may regard all Rohingya a threat to their safety was “a recipe for atrocity crimes”, Smith said.

“It can only inflame the situation and will likely lead to unnecessary violence.”

Kyaw Win, an ethnic Rakhine resident of Kyein Chaung village, in Maungdaw, told Reuters on Wednesday that he was interested in signing up for the training, but said he doubted the plan would allay his community’s security fears.

“It is not possible to live together with Muslims because they are invading and seizing our own land day by day,” he said.

A Rohingya community leader in Maungdaw, speaking to Reuters on condition of anonymity, said he was concerned Muslims might come under attack from the newly armed recruits.

“If they have guns in their hands, we won’t be able to work together as before,” he said.

BDA not to proceed with proposed steel flyover

November 3, 2016 by Nasheman

steel-flyover-bangalore

Bengaluru: Bangalore Development Authority on Thursday gave an undertaking to Karnataka High Court that that it will not construct the proposed steel flyover in Bengaluru.

The proposed steel structure which is 6.72 km long, is estimated to cost Rs 1,791 crores and was to connect the city centre to the Hebbal flyover. Authorities say it will decongest the ride to the international airport located on the city’s outskirts.

The high court will now examine all legal and constitutional issues related to the steel flyover for sanctioning a Rs 50 lakh grant to a trust allegedly in a fraudulent manner in 2001.

Some people in Bengaluru are content, after National Green Tribunal (NGT) ordered a month-long stay on the proposed steel flyover project.

Those opposing the construction of the flyover plan to hold a hunger-strike on November 6 to further pressurise the state government to cancel it.
