Motherhood Hospitals launches ‘Prepare’ a Preterm Parenting Support Group for the first time in India to mark “World Prematurity Day”

November 18, 2016 by Nasheman

vikas_satwik

Bangalore: Motherhood Hospitals, Bangalore, today launched a Preterm Parent Support Group called Prepare. This group will provide emotional support to new parents who have delivered a preemie baby, by helping them clear their doubts, answering their queries, support them through the delicate phase of their life. This launch also marks the “World Prematurity Day” on November 17th and creates awareness on the rising numbers of premature births.

Talking about the NICU facilities at Motherhood, Dr. Prashanth Gowda, Consultant, Neonatologist and Pediatrician, said, “Treating preterm babies is a teamwork with highly skilled neonatologists supported by skilled nursing staff and advanced technology. Our team at Motherhood has handled some of the most challenging prematurely born, low birth-weight neonates and babies with sever and complex conditions through effective interventions and timely care. We are constantly striving to provide the best care to high-risk newborns through its state-of-the-art facilities and highly skilled team of neonatologists.”

“When I had my baby at the 30th Week, way before the due date, I was paranoid and depressed and didn’t know how to handle the whole situation and even to hold such a tiny baby properly. The fact that my baby is in the NICU with all that wires and tubes attached to her tiny body killed me every time I went to NICU to visit her. On our third day, a mother brought in her daughter who had spent time in the NICU and I asked her, ‘How did you get through months? I can’t even get through this day’. It helped so much to talk to her and gave me confidence to see her little toddler healthy and active”, said Ashwini, one of the parents from the support group.

Although there are a few online forums in our country to support the NICU parents, this is the first time a hospital has taken the initiative to provide necessary information and support to the stressful parents of the premature babies.

Talking on the launch, Dr. Vikas Satwik, Consultant, Neonatologist and Pediatrician at Motherhood Hospital, said, “Parents who have a baby in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) are under a lot of stress. And while doctors and nurses are monitoring their child 24/7, it makes a lot of difference and boost the confidence of the parents with premature babies by speaking to the parents who have gone through the similar experience and on how they overcame the emotional and physical challenges.”

After the antenatal and post-natal counselling, parents of premature newborns are extended emotional and psychological support that helps them be strong and take better care of their newborn. Support is given in terms of counselling, videos and one-on-one interactions with qualified personnel. The initiative here is aimed at bringing the parents together to interact and share their experiences and eventually create a self-sufficient support network amongst them.

Neonatal ICU @ Motherhood

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Motherhood is a level III unit and is equipped with state-of the art to handle neonatal cardiac emergencies and other critical problems of newborns. A full range of life support systems and comprehensive care for infants with critical illness is provided at every Motherhood centre. There is a team of doctors and well-trained nursing staff working round-the-clock at the NICU to take care of the newborns. The unit is equipped with incubators, high-end ventilators, bubble CPAP machines, high proficiency monitors, phototherapy units and arterial blood gas machines.

HOW ‘SAANSEIN’ TRIUMPHED OVER ‘ROCK ON 2’?

PM Narendra Modi’s demonetization decision has certainly impacted the entire country; especially cinema business has gone for a toss. ROCK ON 2, which was touted to “rock” at the BO considering its 1st part ROCK ON was super successful, didn’t open on a great note. However, those who took a timely action are now heaving a sigh of relief. SAANSEIN producer Goutam Jain took a bold step and decided to push the release of his debut film at the 11th hour. While many speculated that SAANSEIN was being postponed as the makers didn’t want to clash with ROCK ON that comes from a big banner and trade is also quite upbeat about this Farhan Akhtar starrer. But if that would have been the case then SAANSEIN, which is now scheduled to hit the screens alongside Shah Rukh Khan & Alia Bhatt’s DEAR ZINDAGI on 25th Nov, 2016, wouldn’t have opted to arrive along with yet another biggie. It would have rather gone solo to arrive in theatres. Some others even wondered if the makers of SAANSEIN are taking an appropriate decision to shift the release, but looking at the current scenario and the way demonetization has affected the new releases, it seems SAANSEIN team was provident and took a calculated smart move. Though the film will face competition from SRK’s DEAR ZINDAGI, but that will perhaps not deter the film from doing the required business, because by that time, things may settle for better. Goutam Kumar Jain says, “It’s a calculative move. Since we had to take a call fast, we decided to postpone the film. We aren’t scared of the competition and we are quite confident of our product. We understand it will be difficult for people to prioritize a film over other basic necessities.”

Sanjay Leela Bhansali was extremely touched & overwhelmed when he saw them on the sets. They wanted to come & wish him luck in person as soon as they heard that PADMAVATI went on the floors. Bhansali has been like a mentor to them and they owe everything they’ve learnt to him. Very few people know the filmmaker personally and those who do truly love him – On the sets Bhansali ensures that his crew is well looked after and are treated to the most lavish food. Siddaramaiah urges Centre to allow DCC banks to accept deposits

November 18, 2016 by Nasheman

Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday requested the Centre to allow district central cooperative (DCC) banks to accept deposits according to the guidelines of the demonetisation scheme.

In a letter addressed to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, CM Siddaramaiah said that the decision of not allowing DCC banks from carrying out transactions has affected lakhs of farmers in the state who are unable to repay their loans, draw fresh loans and deposit their cash in DCC banks.

Siddaramaiah further added farmers who have availed farm loans will be considered ineligible for interest subsidy if they fail to repay loans within the stipulated date. They will also not be eligible to get fresh crop loans for rabi crop.

Dairyfarmers have not been able to receive payments as the milk cooperative societies could not deposit money in the DCC banks, he added.

Visakhapatnam: England were in deep trouble after being reduced to 103/5 in their reply to India’s 455 all out in the first innings at the end of second day of the second cricket Test here on Friday.

Resuming the day at 317/4, India were bowled out for 455 an hour into the second session of play at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium.

In reply, England lost five wickets for just 103 runs and are 352 runs short of India’s first innings score.

Joe Root (53) offered some resistance but the Indian bowling attack, spearheaded by off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin (2/20), had the visitors on the mat.

Pacer Mohammed Shami and debutant off-spinner Jayant Yadav returned figures of 1/15 and 1/11, respectively.

England suffered an early jolt when Shami beat England skipper Alistair Cook with a delivery that moved in to beat the bat before breaking the offstump into two.

Haseeb Hameed and Root tried to build a partnership before the former was run out following a horrible mix-up.

England lost quick wickets thereafter with Ben Duckett, Root and Moen Ali returning to the pavilion in quick succession.

Earlier, India were bundled out for 455 in their first innings just after lunch.

Resuming the day at 317/4, Indian skipper Virat Kohli (167) and all-rounder Ashwin (58) took India past the 350-run mark before England off-spinner Moeen Ali dragged the hosts back with three quick scalps in the morning session.

Ashwin, who registered his eighth Test half-century, added 64 vital runs with Jayant Yadav (35) for the eighth wicket to take India to 415/7 at lunch.

Coming back after the break, England managed to take the remaining three wickets with leg-spinner Adil Rashid accounting for Jayant and Umesh Yadav (13) while Ashwin fell prey to Ben Stokes.

For the visitors, comeback man James Anderson and Ali were the pick of the bowlers with three wickets each while Rashid took two. Pacers Stuart Broad and Ben Stokes chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Demonetisation effect? BJP loses all 17 seats in Panvel APMC elections

November 18, 2016 by Nasheman

peasants-and-workers-party

Panvel: Has the demonetisation move backfired for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)? The APMC Panvel election results have been declared and the BJP has lost all 17 seats. Peasants and Workers Party (PWP) won 15 seats, while Congress and Shiv Sena registered victory on one seat each in the Panvel APMC polls.

Notably, Congress won an APMC seat after 25 years. The Panvel APMC election results were announced on November 14. With the BJP losing all 17 seats in the Panvel APMC polls, questions are being raised whether the demonetisation move by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the inconvenience to common man followed by the sudden decision didn’t go well for the BJP.

In a blow for the BJP, the saffron party faced defeat on all the 17 seats of the APMC polls. PWP, Shiv Sena and Congress contested election making an alliance and it worked out too. While the PWP bagged 15 seats, Shiv Sena and Congress won one seat each. “BJP lost all 17 seats in Panvel APMC election. These traders used to be their votes bank. Beginning of the end,” tweeted Preeti Sharma Menon, National Executive Member of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

After BJP’s defeat in APMC polls, many took to Twitter claiming the inconvenience to common man caused by the demonetisation decision is the root cause of saffron party’s loss in the polls. “First result of being a failure in the implementation of #DeMonetisation. BJP loses all 17 seats in panvel APMC polls,” said a twitterati.

Bank a/c misuse for black money deposit to invite govt action

November 18, 2016 by Nasheman

atm

New Delhi: Government today cautioned Jan Dhan account holders, housewives and artisans that they will be prosecuted under the I-T Act for allowing misuse of their bank accounts through deposit of black money in Rs 500/1,000 notes during the 50-day window till December 30.

The directive comes against the backdrop of reports that some are using other persons’ bank accounts to convert their black money into new denomination notes. In some cases, even rewards are being given to account holders for allowing such misuse.

The government had earlier said deposits up to Rs 2.50 lakh in bank accounts would not come under tax scrutiny as it is within the tax exemption limit. In the case of Jan Dhan account, the holder can deposit up to Rs 50,000.

However, the income tax department has noted that people are under impression that no action will be taken for deposits up to Rs 2.50 lakh during November 9-December 30.

The ministry said “such tax evasion activities can be made subject to income tax and penalty if it is established that the amount deposited in the account was not of the account holder but of somebody else. Also, the person who allows his or her account to be misused for this purpose can be prosecuted for abetment under the Income Tax Act”.

The government has earlier said black money deposited in bank accounts during the 50-day period will be subject to tax, interest and 200 per cent penalty.

It asked people not to be lured into conversion of black money and become a partner in the crime of converting black money into white through this method.

“Unless all citizens of the country help the government in curbing black money, this mission of black money will not succeed,” the official statement said.

It also asked people to provide information of such illegal activities to the I-T department so that immediate action can be taken and such illegal transfer of cash can be stopped and seized.

“Black money is a crime against humanity. We urge every conscientious citizen to help join the government in eradicating it,” it added.

Following the demonetisation announcement of November 8, people have been queueing up in front of banks to convert and deposit the now-defunct 500 and 1,000 rupee notes.

The tax department has already made quoting of PAN mandatory if cash deposits during the 50-day period aggregate Rs 2.5 lakh or more in bank accounts.
