India beat Australia to level series

Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli (R) and teammates celebrate the dismissal of Australian batsman Matthew Wade during the fourth day of the second Test match between India and Australia at The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore (AFP)

Bengaluru: Ravichandran Ashwin’s 25th five-wicket haul was the cornerstone of India’s remarkable turnaround as the hosts defeated Australia by 75 runs in the second cricket Test to level the four-match series 1-1 in Bengaluru.

Defending a competitive target of 188 with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on line, Ashwin was unplayable on a tricky on a fourth-day surface with magnificent figures of 6 for 41. Australia ended up decimated for 112 in only 35.4 overs.

Just like Indian wickets fell like nine pins in Pune, Australia too crumbled like a house of cards and lost the last six for a mere 11 runs between overs 26th and 36th. With their backs firmly against the wall, it was a battle of attrition for Kohli and his boys after their humiliating loss in Pune.

It turned out to be a collective effort in the end with KL Rahul (90 and 51), Cheteshwar Pujara (92) and Ajinkya Rahane (52) doing their bit with the bat. Not to forget an invaluable 20 runs from Wriddhiman Saha. After a bad run in Pune, spin twins Ashwin (8 wickets) and Ravindra Jadeja (7 wickets) accounted for 15 out of the 20 wickets.

The pitch, which deteriorated with each passing moment, made the target of 188 look as big as 350. Only skipper Steve Smith (28) and Peter Handscomb (24) were the only batsmen to cross 20-run mark for Australia.

Till the 10th over of the chase, things looked good for Australia as they were 42 for 1, losing only Matt Renshaw (5) who got an unplayable delivery from Ishant Sharma. David Warner (17) got a leg before decision off Ashwin’s bowling going against him. Warner reviewed it unsuccessfully.

Umesh Yadav (2/30 in 9 overs) then produced the double break with Shaun Marsh (9) getting one to come back after hitting one of those ever widening cracks. Smith got a shooter that didn’t even rise enough hitting him on the boot.

It was plumb and Smith, trying to get a clue from the dressing room beyond his 15-second time, got into a brief altercation with rival captain Kohli. Mitchell Marsh (13) and Peter Handscomb (24) added 27 runs and tried to stem the rot during their fifth wicket partnership.

This was the time when Ashwin, coming for his second spell, ran riot dismissing Marsh, Matthew Wade and Mitchell Starc in quick succession. Once it was 103 for 7, the game was all over for Australia. The third Test will be played in Ranchi from March 16.

FBI disputes Trump wiretapping accusations: reports

March 6, 2017 by Nasheman

Reports say FBI asks justice department to refute Trump allegation – made without evidence – that Obama wiretapped him.

US reports say FBI director James Comey wants Trump accusation rejected [AFP]

by Al Jazeera

The FBI has asked the US justice department to refute President Donald Trump’s accusation that Barack Obama ordered a wiretap of his phone, according to US media.

Citing senior officials, the New York Times reported that FBI director James Comey made the unprecedented request on Saturday because there was no evidence, and the accusation “insinuates that the FBI broke the law”.

A US congressional committee has confirmed that it will look into Trump’s allegation. The justice department has not commented.

Comey’s request came after Trump, without providing evidence, accused Obama of ordering his phone in Trump Tower be tapped during last year’s election campaign.

Trump has not commented further on the accusation since making it in a series of tweets on Saturday.

Democrats accused Trump of trying to distract from a rising controversy about possible ties to Russia. His administration has come under pressure from the FBI and congressional investigations into contacts between members of his campaign team and Russian officials.

A spokesman for Obama denied the allegation, calling it “simply false”. The former president’s national intelligence chief James Clapper has also denied it.

“There was no such wiretap activity mounted against the president-elect at the time, as a candidate at the time or against his campaign,” Clapper said on NBC’s Meet the Press.

White House backpedals

Jason Johnson, a professor of political science in Baltimore, told Al Jazeera that any investigation was likely to be short.

“It’s not clear what the congressional committee will do and how they will do it, but it can’t last very long because the accusation is false,” Johnson said, adding a president is unable to order a wiretap.

“The president can’t demand that anyone gets wiretapped and the only way that there could be a wiretap of Trump Tower is if judges and lawyers and investigators and the justice department felt that Trump was engaging in some illegal behaviour.”

On Sunday, the White House appeared to somewhat backpedal on the accusations, only going as far as saying there should be a probe into the possibility of wiretapping.

“I think the bigger thing is let’s find out. Let’s have an investigation. If they’re going to investigate Russia ties, let’s include this as part of it,” Trump spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said.

Trump’s accusation appears to have been based on unverified reports from right-wing Breitbart News outlet, which was once run by his chief strategist, Steve Bannon.

Trump was said to be furious that positive reviews of his joint address to Congress on Tuesday were overshadowed by a series of revelations about meetings between members of his team and Russian officials.

The president was also said to be angry that Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused, or excused, himself from any election campaign or Russia-related investigations.

Democrats and a growing number of Republicans in Congress have called for the appointment of a special prosecutor and a bipartisan inquiry to look into the Russia question.

Kohli fails once again, India 122/4 at tea

March 6, 2017 by Nasheman

Virat Kohli

Bengaluru: Virat Kohli failed once again as India lost four wickets to slump to 122 for four at tea on the third day of the second cricket Test here today.

Kohli was dismissed for 15 from 25 ball in a contentious decision to the stunning silence of the big home supporters at the Chinnaswamy stadium.

Field umpire Nigel Long gave Kohli out LBW off Josh Hazlewood five over before tea break and Kohli, who gestured that the ball hit his bat first, took DRS immediately. After a long review, TV Umpire Richard Kettleborough said there was no conclusive evidence to rule it’s bat first or pad first and ruled in favour of field umpire’s decision.

A furious-looking Kohli left the ground, showing his displeasure but with the lost of the crucial wicket, India’s chances in the Test took a beating. Kohli had scored 0 and 13 in the two innings of the first Test and 12 in the first innings of this Test.

Just before tea break, Ravindra Jadeja, who was promoted up the order, was dismissed by Hazlewood for 2 after facing 12 balls as Australia took honours in the the post-lunch session.

India are now just 35 runs ahead with six second innings wickets remaining. India had begun their second innings on a positive note with runs coming at a good pace and opener Lokesh Rahul hitting a 85-ball 51 with the help of four boundaries while one-down Cheteshwar Pujara showing signs of playing a much-needed big innings.

At the break, Pujara was batting on 34 from 75 balls while Ajinkya Rahane was giving him company on 2. Pujara was lucky to have been dropped while batting on four by Steven Smith at slips off Nathan Lyon’s delivery.

Hazlewood led the Australian attack, bagging three wickets for 37 runs and Steve O’Keefe claimed one wicket for 15 runs. After scoring 38 for no loss at lunch, India lost their first wicket on the fourth ball of the second session when Hazlewood cleaned up Abhinav Mukund after he had put on 39 runs from 64 balls with Rahul for opening wicket.

Unlike his first innings, Mukund showed glimpses of confidence, even as he smashed a boundary and a six off Mitchell Starc. When he departed, the Indian opener had scored 16 runs off 32 balls compared to his zero in first innings.

Rahul, who has been one of the better performers of the Indian side this series, smashed a delightful 51 runs off 85 balls with four boundaries. The Indian opener, who top-scored in the first innings with a determined 90, was scalped by Steven O’Keefe with Steve Smith taking a stunning diving catch to his right at slips, immediately after drinks break. Rahul departed after a 45-run stand for the second wicket with Pujara.

In an interesting move, Jadeja walked into the field after the departure of Kohli. Jadeja could not justify the promotion as he managed to score just two runs before he was dismissed by Hazlewood.

Earlier, left-arm spinner Jadeja grabbed three wickets in 10 balls to polish off the Australian tail as India bowled out the visitors for 276 in their first innings. Jadeja removed wicketkeeper Matthew Wade (40), Nathan Lyon (0) and Josh Hazlewood (1) in quick succession after off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed Mitchell Starc as the first wicket of the third morning session.

Australia took a crucial first innings lead of 87 runs on an unpredictable pitch. The visitors took to the field today with a desire to consolidate on their overnight score of 237 for six, but could add only 39 runs in 16.4 overs while losing four wickets.

After the departure of Starc, Australia lost their remaining three wickets for just seven runs in 4.4 overs with Jadeja claiming all of them. At one stage, Jadeja was on a hat-trick after he removed Wade and Lyon in consecutive deliveries of his fourth over of the day. But Hazlewood denied him the feat as the Australian took a single with a defensive push.

Jadeja though had the last laugh as he removed Hazlewood in his next over as the batsman attempted a big swipe, only to end up skying it to long-on for Lokesh Rahul to take the catch.

Jadeja ended with innings figures of 6 for 63 in 21.4 overs. Before Jadeja ran through the Australian tail, Ashwin picked up the first wicket of the day by sending back Mitchell Starc for 26. Starc was holed out in the deep with Jadeja taking the catch. Ashwin ended with innings figures of 2 for 84 from 49 overs.

An interview With Celebrity Author Amit Khan

March 6, 2017 by Shaheen Raaj

“It is really amazing that the rights of my forthcoming novels are sold out even before they are published.” – Amit Khan

Amit Khan & Arbaaz Khan
Amit Khan with Book
Amit Khan with Books
Amit Khan

The name Amit Khan needs no special introduction today. He is a big name in the world of Hindi thriller novels. More than 100 novels written by him have been published so far. Not only that, his novels are now being published in English & Marathi by reputed publishing houses. Amit Khan is also very active in Bollywood. He has written many films and a lot of episodes of television serials scripted by him have been telecasted so far. He is also doing Marathi films. Laal Ishq produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali Productions released recently was based on Amit Khan’s story. “Fifty – Fifty” which has been produced by Manmohan Desai Productions. His writing achievements are far more diverse. Amit Khan has also written a lot of Diamond Comics which have been published in Hindi, English & Bengali languages. The biggest & the most interesting news is that the film rights of 2 of his novels have recently been purchased by 2 producers. That too rights of those novels which have not even been published yet!

How did this journey of writing begin?

Even I did not realize! I was 12 years old. I wrote a story based on the life of American President George Washington and it got published. Since then writing & getting published became a regular part of my life. It is still in progress. My 1st novel was published when I was 15 years old. So far a total of 105 novels have been out. I have also written many short stories. From English magazine Women’s Era to Manohar Kahaniyaan & Navbharat Times, everywhere my stories have been published.

What do you feel about “Films Based On Novels”?

Today there are many writers in Bollywood but very few of them are good writers who are creating remarkable work. In a film, screenplay matters more than a story and I believe every story must have a USP. Based on this USP, the complete marketing strategy is designed. Crores of rupees are at stake on that. Many a times the script is good but there is no USP. “Films Based On Novels” is a new concept in Bollywood but this has been going on in Hollywood since a long time. Many of Gulshan Nanda’s novels have been turned into films earlier. Good films have been created based on Chetan Bhagat’s novels too. I am being approached by producers with good offers. 2 of my novels on which I was working, rights of those novels have been purchased even before publishing of those novels. 1 of them was purchased by Dhaval Gada (Pen India) and the other was acquired by an NRI businessman Pradeep Rangwani. Based on this latter novel, production of the film has actually begun. The title of that film is “Red Affair” & Arbaaz Khan is playing the lead role in it.

Any other project on hand or in the pipeline?

Yes, I am also working on a comedy film for UV Films. The film is titled – Suicide Circus. It is my dream project. I want to cast Amitabh Bachchan in this film. As soon as I complete the script, he will be the 1st person to be approached for the project.

Your identity is that of a Thriller Writer, then how come you are writing a Comedy Film?

I think if you are a sensible writer, then you can write a novel based on any genre. I have also written many love stories which have been published and received good readership. I have also penned comedies. In fact Suicide Circus is based on one of my short stories.

Good! We have heard that you also have a YouTube channel.

Yes, indeed! “Amit Khan Ki Chaupaal” is the name of my YouTube Channel. It has recently started and already received wonderful response. On this channel you can find stories & poetry created by me and narrated in my voice. This channel is being handled by “P. K. Online” a big company. After starting this channel – “Amit Khan Ki Chaupaal”, I have started receiving offers from radio channels. They want me to narrate my stories in a radio show just like Nilesh Mishra. As soon as my deal with a radio channel is finalized, I will surely let you know.

VIDYUT JAMMWAL – THE ACTION STAR OF THIS GENERATION

We’ve all seen action packed Bollywood films with high octane & death – defying stunts that are executed by stunt doubles most of the times. But the only actor who is a trained martial artist since before he became an actor and does all his stunts is Vidyut Jammwal. His role models being Sylvester Stallone & Jackie Chan, Vidyut has paved his way as an action star without any Bollywood influences & roots. He doesn’t follow a pattern in films or even stick to certain roles & habits. As he says himself, “Out of the comfort zone is the comfort zone”.Apart from being effortlessly sexy, fit & amazing at his job, Vidyut is an intelligent man who thinks women should not change their bodies to look good for anybody. Being quite the fitness fanatic, Vidyut thinks giving up certain foods to lose weight and getting fit is a myth. He also thinks to be disciplined in training doesn’t mean to workout at 4 am, he thinks discipline is working out daily at whatever time possible. Inspiring millions with the kinds of stunts he executes and just being himself, Vidyut has become the action star of this generation.
