Modi’s policies made space for terrorists in Kashmir: Rahul Gandhi

July 12, 2017 by Nasheman

Rahul-Gandhi

New Delhi: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi today singled out Narendra Modi’s policies for the increase in terror attacks in the Kashmir Valley including the Amarnath Yatra terror attack.

In a series of tweets, Gandhi said,

Modi’s policies have created space for terrorists in Kashmir. Grave strategic blow for India#AmarnathTerrorAttack

— Office of RG (@OfficeOfRG) July 12, 2017

The Congress vice president’s fresh criticism against the PM comes a day after Opposition parties asked the government to introspect and find out how despite intelligence inputs, terrorists could attack the pilgrims’ bus.

Gandhi, like many other Opposition leaders, questioned the BJP-PDP coalition in Jammu and Kashmir, the first such ruling alliance in the state.

Short term political gain for Modi from PDP alliance has cost India massively

— Office of RG (@OfficeOfRG) July 12, 2017

On Monday evening, a group of militants attacked the bus at Batengoo in Anantnag area, killing seven pilgrims. The bus was coming back from Baltal, one of the base camps of the Amarnath Yatra to Jammu. This was the first major attack on Amarnath pilgrims in 16 years.

In another tweet, Gandhi said,

Modi’s personal gain= India's strategic loss + sacrifice of innocent Indian blood

BJP IT cell secretary arrested for spreading fake video to create communal tension

July 12, 2017 by Nasheman

tarun-sengupta-bjp

Kolkata: A BJP leader in Bengal has been arrested on charges of “spreading fake news and creating communal disharmony”, the state’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) tweeted today. The arrested man, Tarun Sengupta, describes himself on social media as the BJP’s Asansol district IT in-charge. He is accused of posting fake images and videos on social media to stir communal trouble.

This is the latest such arrest in Bengal since communal violence erupted in North 24 Parganas near Kolkata recently.

Last week, the Kolkata police said they had arrested a person for sharing an image from a Bhojpuri film and passing it off as one from North 24 Parganas.

After the image was circulated, social media users and fact-checking websites like Alt News pointed out that the still was taken from a Bhojpuri movie called “Aurat Khilona Nahi” released in 2014.

Among those who shared the image, targeting the West Bengal government, on social media was Vijeta Malik, an official of the BJP’s Haryana unit.

The police have also registered non-bailable cases against Nupur Sharma, a BJP spokesperson, for sharing a 2002 Gujarat riot photo and claiming it was taken during the communal violence in Basirhat.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee declared last week: “Action will be taken for spreading fake pictures and videos. The law will take its own course.”

Violence flared in Baduria and Basirhat and spread to other towns in the North 24 Parganas district after a Facebook post by a 17-year-old on Prophet Mohammad angered Muslims. The teen was arrested and has been sent to jail.

The police have put out a series of tweets asking people not to be influenced by fake messages or posts on social media that are designed to create trouble.

Varun Tej’s Career Is Not Looking So Bright

The career of Varun Tej is looking not so bright. He has couple of movies on hand and is getting good remuneration as well. Yet, he has no blockbuster in his career. Kanche was the sole success. After delivering huge dud with Mister, he will now be testing his luck at the Box – Office turnstile again with Sekhar Kammula’s Fidaa. Sekhar Kammula has also gone out of form with his last 2 movies. He needs to prove his mettle again with Fidaa. The teaser of Fidda is not at all interesting. On Sat, he also launched another movie in the direction of a newcomer. This film too is not hot project as per as the distributors are concerned. So his prospects for a blockbuster are looking bleak at this moment. The lanky tall hero is a handsome guy and he looked quite promising when he made his debut. But he has not been able to deliver a blockbuster.

Working On DJ Was Fulfilling Experience For Pooja Hegde

Pooja Hegde, last seen in Ashutosh Gowariker’s Mohenjo Daro, avers that she had a fulfilling experience while working in the upcoming Telugu entertainer Duvvada Jagannadham aka DJ. “I thoroughly enjoyed shooting for Duvvada Jagannadham aka DJ and the experience has been very fulfilling. As an actor, it’s essential a film does well, but its fate is not in our hands. What’s more important are the memories you make while working on each project.” She added, “You spend nearly 6 months on a project. You leave everything & stay with people you don’t even know. If you don’t enjoy working with them, nothing else really matters. You need to find a family in the people you work with. I’m glad I found a family in Duvvada Jagannadham aka DJ.” Having mostly played the homely, girl – next – door in her Telugu films so far, Pooja has upped the glamour quotient in Duvvada Jagannadham aka DJ. “Unlike my simple & good looking avatars so far, I have played a very glamorous role. It’s the kind of character that helped me grow as an actor,” she said, heaping praises on co -star Allu Arjun, “He is like a rubber man…someone who can dance phenomenally and he does it with a0certain swag. I always end up working with great dancers. It was Hrithik (Roshan) last time & now Allu Arjun,” she stated. “Each time I saw his dance portion, I’d call him and say how he nailed every step. I would tell him jokingly that I have to take extra dance lessons just to match his performance. He is a very friendly & a honest co – star.” she concludes. Directed by Harish Shankar, the film is slated for release soon. On working with Harish, Pooja said, “He is the funniest director I have ever worked with. You take any behind – the – scenes photograph and you’d find us – Harish, Arjun & I – laughing & goofing around. We had so much fun shooting.” Pooja says that Harish is very easy to work with.

Rana to Act Under Vinayak’s Direction?

Rana Duggabatti has gained great popularity with Baahubali series but his aim is now to get the success as a solo hero. He is now interacting with directors to line up his next movies. He is looking for a director who establishes him as a big star. On the other hand, his father Suresh Babu is trying to rope in V V Vinayak, who has been sitting idle after the release of Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Khaidi No 150 and his efforts to get dates of a top star went in vain. Hoping to begin a movie with NTR next year, he is just cooling off without any work. It has to be seen whether he would give his nod to direct Rana Duggabatti. V V Vinayak earlier rejected the offer of directing Sai Dharam Tej on the grounds that the budget is not viable. He now cannot make a movie with Rs 40 Cr budget, where as Sai Dharam Tej has just Rs 25 cr market. Hence the proposal didn’t materialize. But with Rana Duggabatti, he will not face such a problem as his movies can be dubbed into Tamil, Hindi & Malayalam languages.

Mahesh Babu Finally Moves To Koratala Movie

Mahesh Babu is back in Hyderabad. After completing the final portions of Spyder in Chennai, Mahesh Babu has landed in Hyderabad. He joined the sets of director Koratala Siva’s big – budgeted political thriller on 21st Jun, 2017. From now on, he will be completely immersed with Bharath Ane Nenu, the movie that Siva Koratala is filming right now. Siva has mammoth task on his hands to complete this movie in just 5 months, as Mahesh Babu wants it to field during Pongal festival time. For the 1st time, ever Koratala Siva is directing a movie based on another writer’s script. Sreehari Nanu, who earlier directed Bhoomika Chawla produced Takita Takita, has written the basic story of Bharath Ane Nenu. Mahesh Babu will be seen as a young politician in this drama set in the backdrop of Telugu politics. He will be sporting Khadi dresses. Mahesh Babu still has to work for Murugadoss’s Spyder in Jul, 2017 or Aug, 2017 to complete 2 songs.

Allari Naresh’s Special in #Mahesh25

The pre – production work of Mahesh Babu’s 25th film is almost done even before the superstar joined the sets of his 24th film. Mahesh’s next is with Vamsy Paidipalli who had completed the script work and is currently busy in finalizing the star cast & the crew. As per the latest buzz, Allari Naresh has been roped in to play one of the key characters in the film. Allari Naresh has reportedly agreed to do a full length supporting character in the movie. Alli Naresh has done quite a few multi – actor movies before, but he didn’t take up any supporting characters until now. Vamsy Paidipalli who has impressed one & all with his fabulous work in Oopiri is giving his best to make the landmark movie of Mahesh a special one. The film will go on the floors after Mahesh is done with Bharath Ane Nenu directed by Koratala Siva. #Mahesh25 is bankrolled by Dil Raju & Aswini Dutt.

Venkatesh’s Cameo In Pawan – Trivikram Film

Pawan Kalyan & Victory Venkatesh are going to be seen together on the celluloid silver screen once again. After sharing the screen space in Gopala Gopala the off – screen friends are now coming together once afain as Venkatesh has agreed to do a small cameo in Pawan’s 25th film directed by Trivikram. Venkatesh shares a good bond with Trivikram who was the writer for Nuvvu Naaku Nachav & Malliswari. The veteran actor has immediately agreed to do a small role in Pawan’s landmark film when Trivikram asked him. It is going to be a very funny episode that lasts for 3 to 4 minutes. Trivikram is filmed this episode recently on Venkatesh, Pawan Kalyan and other star cast, told sources. With Venkatesh’s cameo the most anticipated film has turned all the more special.

Pawan Kalyan Targeting Hindi Market Yet Again

Pawan Kalyan had a bitter experience in Bollywood with his first attempt Sardaar Gabbar Singh that ended up as a huge disaster. It couldn’t even recover the prints & the publicity costs over there. Despite the terrible 1st ever Bollywood experience, Pawan Kalyan is all set to test Bollywood waters yet again. Pawan’s latest film directed by Trivikram is going to be dubbed into Hindi. Theatrical rights of Hindi dubbed version of PSPK fetched a handsome Rs. 11 crore for the makers. The deal also includes digital, satellite & other rights of Hindi version of the most awaited Telugu film. Can Pawan Kalyan stamp his authority over Bollywood box office this time by eclipsing the bad memories of Sardaar? Telugu films have been fetching good deals in Bollywood lately as there is so much craze for Hindi dubbed Telugu films in North India. Hindi dubbed version of Sarrainodu clocked nearly 4 crore views on YouTube within no time shows the amount of craze for Telugu films amongst the Bollywood audiences.

Lucky Bunny A Perfect Setting For DJ

There is not even 1 film that is minting money at the Box – Office turnstiles right now. All the movies that are currently running in theaters including Baahubali 2 are waiting to be replaced by a biggie. Film lovers have been desperately waiting for a biggie post Baahubali 2 storm and finally DJ is coming to fill in the void on this Fri. Duvvada Jagannadham is the only big film that will run in theaters from this Fri besides a couple of small – timers. What’s even luckier for DJ buyers is there won’t be any notable film in its 2nd week also. With 2 full weeks of ground and a huge release in over 1000 screens, all DJ needs is average to decent talk to hit a jackpot at the Box -Office turnstiles. DJ will face competition in its 3rd week from Nani’s Ninnu Kori & Gopichand’s Gautam Nanda in its 4th week. Allu Arjun cannot ask for a better time to release his much anticipated movie as it will have 2 weeks of uninterrupted run and only a little competition in the consecutive weeks.

Rashmika Mandanna Is Not Romancing Allu Arjun

It was reported in a section of media that Kirrik Party fame Rashmika Mandanna is making her debut in Telugu cinema with Allu Arjun’s Naa Peru Surya. However, the reports turned out false as the makers of Naa Peru Surya are yet to finalize the female lead. Director Vakkantam Vamsy wants to have one of the leading actresses in his debut film. Female lead character in the film is a very strong one that demands an experienced actress. Therefore, he is considering big names for the heroine’s character. Naa Peru Surya will start rolling shortly and aim for a release in summer 2018. Bunny will take a short break from shootings and enjoy a holiday abroad with his family. He will join the shoot of Naa Peru Surya – Naa Illu India from Jul, 2017.

Balayya Confirms Pongal Fight

Nandamuri Balakrishna is back in India. He wrapped up the lengthy foreign schedule of his 101st film that is being directed by Puri Jagannadh. Even though, he will have to shoot for this movie for another 2 months, he has asked director K S Ravikumar to launch their movie next month. Tamil senior director K S Ravikumar will be directing Balakrishna’s 102nd movie and it will be launched on 10th Jul, 2017. Regular shoot will commence from Aug, 2017. Jaya Simha & Reddy Garu are the titles are being considered. Buzz is that Balayya specifically told the director to complete the shooting part in just 5 months and ready it for Sankranthi release. So, it is now confirmed that Balakrishna will be fighting with Mahesh Babu & Ram Charan during Sankranthi 2018 season. Mahesh Babu’s Bharath Ane Nenu is gearing up for the 11th Jan, 2018 release. Ram Charan & Sukumar’s Rangasthalam is also confirmed for Sankranthi. Hence a 3 way fight will be witnessed.

Ram Charan Shoots Amidst Tough Conditions

Ram Charan is braving tough conditions and shooting longer hours for his upcoming Telugu rural – based romantic – drama Rangasthalam, a source said, “It has been the toughest schedule to shoot actually!!! The call times are all before sunrise and we are wrapping up only post sunset. So it’s long days.” Being directed by Sukumar, the film also stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu. “The other day we were shooting a key sequence in the bushes and though Ram Charan was bruised, he was the least complaining person. Instead, he called the ongoing schedule as the most satisfactory one.” The film’s shoot is currently underway in the remote areas of the Godavari district. “The shoot will go on till the month end. Then, it will shift soon to grand sets that are being erected in Hyderabad. Art director Rama Krishna is currently taking care of the sets works in the city,” he said. The film, which has music by Devi Sri Prasad, also stars Aadi Pinisetty & Jagapathi Babu.

Gautham Nanda Excites Market

Gopichand & Sampath Nandi’s Gautham Nanda has excited the market with its teaser released a few days back. The film is all geared for a massive release in Jul 2nd week. Makers are negotiating on fewer areas as business of major territories in Telugu states is closed at unbelievable prices. For example, Dil Raju laid his hand on Nizam at a big price of Rs 6.30 crores while Ceded is closed as Rs 4 crores. Meanwhile, Hindi dubbing rights is closed at Rs 4.75 crores, fairly high and Gemini TV shelled about Rs 5.50 crores for the satellite rights. Buyers are willing to bet a safe investment on Gautham Nanda ever since the teaser captured huge mileage for Gopichand’s stylish looks & Sampath Nandi’s mesmerizing technical skills enhanced the content based on MONEY. Producers are optimistic to get the pre – release trade close to Rs 40 crores. This is highest ever figure for a Gopichand starrer. While SS Thaman composed the music, Hansika Motwani & Catherine Tresa played the female leads.

The Girl – Next – Door Trying Hard For A Sex -Bomb Image

Lavanya Tripathi, who made her debut with Andala Rakshasi, has big hits like Bhale Bhale Magadivoy & Soggade Chinni Nayana to her credit. Despite having big hits up her sleeves, Lavanya is yet to get into the big league. Lavanya has been restricted to doing medium budget films or cast alongside veteran stars. Any actress should get a chance to romance the current superstars to become a star. For some reason, Tollywood has typecast Lavanya in typical village belle characters or the usual girl – next – door types until now. The former Miss Uttarakhand surely wants to see herself in glamorous roles on the celluloid silcev screen. Although Lavanya isn’t vocal about it, her appearances at public events scream “I am looking to be a sex – bomb”. Lavanya’s latest public appearance at Filmfare awards event proves that she is game for glamour roles. Is TFI watching?

Neeraj who is known for special films is making an action thriller in the army backdrop with Siddarth Malhotra as the lead. Rakul is reportedly signed up for the film. The news isn’t official yet, but many reports from Bollywood media claim that Yaariyan actress has been finalized as the female lead in Aiyaary. SAMVED SCHOOL CELEBRATES GOLDEN JUBILEE

July 12, 2017 by Shaheen Raaj

Samved

Samved School formerly known as A. V. Education Society held its golden jubilee year celebrations in the city recently. The students of the school performed a docu drama on the life of their school’s founder Mrs. Ambuja Venkataraman called “Ambujavalli”

The school was started in a very humble manner in a rented building in Jayanagar VIII block, Bangalore in 1967. The founder, Mrs. Ambuja Venkataraman was very modern in her outlook and much ahead of her times, entering career routes uncommon for women in those days. Her career started with Tata Airlines (now Air India) as an Air Hostess. She later went on to act in the South Indian stage & films, married an engineer Mr. T. R. Venkataraman from Madras, before embarking on her true vocation in life, which was education,” shared Mrs. Ameetha Chari, her daughter & trustee of A V Educational Society.

Samved

“The objective of this institution has remained consistent over the 5 decades…to provide quality education to people from all backgrounds. This is what has been the vision of Mrs. Ambuja since she herself grew up realizing that education was available only to the privileged class. Mrs. Venkataraman envisioned how education could bring a change in the lives of people and inspire youth into achieving their dreams & their aspirations. With this aim, she started a kindergarten & primary school in Jayanagar VIII Block. Her passion, zeal & enthusiasm enabled her to pursue her ambition of providing quality education to individuals from all walks of life,” Mrs. Chari added.
“The school has always had seats reserved for disadvantaged students, much before the inception of the Right to Education by the Government of India. We are a not for profit institute and keeping with our founder’s vision & wishes, have always educated deserving students at no cost or at concessional rates as suited to the parent’s financial abilities. We are proud to share that many children have been provided free education along with books & uniform,” said Ms. Sandhya Siddharth, Director, Samved School.

“We are currently rated amongst the top 25 state board schools in Bangalore South. Many of our alumni hold high degrees & excellent jobs all around the world. We are especially proud of these students because education has made a difference in their lives. The vision of our founder continues to permeate through to this day,” Ms. Sandhya added.

Talking on the need of the hour in education, Mrs. Chari added “Education in the 21st Century has changed vastly but India seems to lag behind in several areas. The biggest challenge that lies within our education system is quality, which is generally theoretical in nature and lacks a practical aspect. When students pass an exam, they forget all the things learnt due to a lack of practical experience. A lot of emphasis is given to scoring high marks in the exam rather than acquiring quality knowledge, thus it becomes a rat race. Practical knowledge & skill based education is still far away from the reach of students studying in schools & colleges.”

Talking on the varied initiatives, Ms. Sandhya averred, “The School has integrated e – learning into its teaching & learning format. Smart Boards have been installed in all our classrooms and we have successfully used this platform to make learning more interesting, fun loving & interactive.

Knowledge & learning is a global phenomenon and we realize the importance of being in touch with the outside world. The school has partnered with The British Council’s International Schools Award (ISA) giving its curriculum an international perspective. We also partnered with schools around the globe and under this program, international festivals have been celebrated, dances & cultures learnt & exchanged. This project gave our students the opportunity to have a real time perspective on the lives & cultures of people in other parts of the world.”

“Quality education is still above the reach of an average individual in India. At Samved, we ensure that the school does not differentiate when people seek admission based either on their financial or educational backgrounds. We are proud to have children from families wherein the child admitted is the 1st generational learner in the family. Neither do we send the academically weaker students away when in their final years of high school, to enable us to show that we obtain 100% results in our board exams, unlike some institutions. Our endeavors will continue on this chosen path for many more decades to come,” added Ms. Chari.

Amnesty: All sides violated international law in Mosul

July 11, 2017 by Nasheman

Rights group calls for investigation into whether war crimes were committed in the battle to retake the city from ISIL.

More than 890,000 people were displaced due to fighting in Mosul [Felipe Dana/AP]

by Al Jazeera

Amnesty International has said it had identified a pattern of attacks by Iraqi forces and the US-led military coalition backing them that violated international humanitarian law and may amount to war crimes.

It also said that ISIL fighters flagrantly violated that same law by deliberately putting civilians in harm’s way to shield its fighters and impede the advance of Iraqi and coalition forces.

In a report published a day after the Iraqi forces declared victory in city, the human rights watchdog called for a thorough investigation into whether war crimes were committed in the battle for the city.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi formally declared victory in Mosul on Monday, three years after the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) group seized the city.

With air support from the US-led coalition, Iraqi forces launched the battle for Mosul in October, retaking the eastern part of the city in January and starting the operation for its western part the next month.

‘Disproportionate attacks’

Amnesty said Iraqi forces and the coalition carried out a series of unlawful attacks in west Mosul, relying heavily on Improvised Rocket Assisted Munitions (IRAMs), explosive weapons with crude targeting capabilities that wreaked havoc in densely populated areas.

“Even in attacks that seem to have struck their intended military target, the use of unsuitable weapons or failure to take other necessary precautions resulted in needless loss of civilian lives and in some cases appears to have constituted disproportionate attacks,” the report said.

Amnesty also slammed ISIL for a host of crimes that have been documented previously.

According to the report, ISIL fighters rounded up residents in contested villages and neighbourhoods and forced them to move into conflict zones in west Mosul for use as human shields. As clashes neared, they trapped the civilians inside houses without access to food or medical care, it said.

Amnesty acknowledged the challenges of protecting civilians given ISIL tactics, but blamed Iraqi authorities and the US-led coalition for failing to take feasible precautions to protect civilians from air strikes. It said leaflet drops warning of attacks had been virtually useless because ISIL heavily restricted civilian movement.

Neither the Iraqi defence ministry nor coalition officials were immediately available to comment on the Amnesty report.

Chatham House fellow Renad Mansou told Al Jazeera that while “war crimes have certainly” been committed by all sides in Mosul, the extent remains to be unknown.

“The question is whether the Iraqi goverment will be able to address the human right violations,” he said from London.

‘Hell on earth’

Also on Tuesday, UN human rights chief Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein called for accountability and dialogue to heal the trauma of Mosul in the aftermath of the nearly nine-month long battle.

“The women, children and men of Mosul have lived through hell on earth, enduring a level of depravity and cruelty that is almost beyond words,” Zeid said.

The UN high commissioner demanded that the offenders be brought to justice and all violations thoroughly probed. He also urged Iraq to join the International Criminal Court (ICC).

“The root causes of violence and conflict in Iraq need to be addressed in terms of human rights violations suffered by all communities in the country over several decades. Only then can secure foundations be laid for the lasting peace that the Iraqi people deserve,” Zeid said.

He added that “ISIL forced tens of thousands of people from their homes in and around the city and used them as human shields, a war crime under international humanitarian law and a violation of the most basic standards of human dignity and morality”.

The UN said on Monday there was no end in sight to Iraq’s humanitarian crisis.

Of the more than 897,000 people displaced from Mosul, the UN said thousands of residents will probably not be able to return to the city because of “extensive damage caused during the conflict”.

Qatari position in Gulf row ‘reasonable’: US secretary of state Tillerson

July 11, 2017 by Nasheman

US secretary of state, while visiting Doha, says Qatar’s views in Gulf crisis have been clear and ‘very reasonable’.

Tillerson met with Qatar's Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani in Doha [Tom Finn/Reuters]

by Al Jazeera

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told reporters in Doha that the Qatari government had “reasonable” views in the month-old diplomatic crisis with Arab neighbours.

“I think Qatar has been quite clear in its positions, and I think those have been very reasonable,” Tillerson said after his arrival in Doha on Tuesday.

The quartet accuse Qatar of funding “terrorism”, an accusation Qatar rejects as “baseless”.

Tillerson is holding talks with Qatar’s emir and foreign minister on the second leg of his four-day trip to the Gulf to help seek a resolution to the crisis.

The US State Department said Tillerson would first meet with Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, before holding talks with Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

The visit to Doha follows a meeting with the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah and other senior Kuwaiti officials on Monday.

“We are trying to resolve an issue that concerns not just us but the whole world,” Sheikh Sabah told Tillerson.

US officials said Tillerson does not expect an immediate breakthrough, which they warned could be months away.

Rather, they said, he wants to explore possibilities for sparking negotiations.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt cut ties with Qatar on June 5 and imposed a land, air and sea blockade on the country.

On June 22, they issued a 13-point list of demands, including the shutdown of Al Jazeera, limiting ties with Iran and expelling Turkish troops stationed in the country, as a prerequisite to lift the sanctions.

Doha rejected the demands and the countries now consider the list “null and void”.

Kuwait is still trying to mediate the dispute.

The US has been supporting Kuwait’s mediation efforts, but Tillerson’s trip marks a new level of US involvement.

Al Jazeera’s Rosiland Jordan, reporting from Kuwait City, said Tillerson was basically visiting each side to “take the temperature in this dispute”.

“After some initial missteps from the White House, in which the president seemed to take sides with the Saudis and their allegations, the US’ position now is to try to shore up the Kuwait efforts to mediate the crisis and to try to bring some presure from Washington, if it’s appropiate,” she said.

Senior Tillerson adviser R.C. Hammond said the package of demands, as issued by Qatar’s neighbours, was not viable, but said there were individual items on the list “that could work”.

Hammond would not elaborate on which demands Qatar could meet, but said concessions from the others would be required.

“This is a two-way street,” he said of a dispute among parties who each have been accused of funding “extremists” in some way. “There are no clean hands.”

Vijay Mallya quits as India’s top representative to FIA

July 11, 2017 by Nasheman

Vijay Mallya

New Delhi: Vijay Mallya has quit as Indian motorsport body’s top representative in the world body FIA after intervention from the sports ministry.

Mallya, who is facing extradition to India over unpaid debts for the defunct Kingfisher Airlines, resigned ahead of the last meeting of FIA’s World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) in June, following the ministry’s directive to Federation of Motor Sports Club of India (FMSCI).
FMSCI can now only nominate a new representative to the FIA in December as a national body cannot nominate anyone in between the stipulated tenure. Former FMSCI president Vicky Chandhok was deputy to Mallya at the FIA and has attended all the meetings ever since the Indian passport of the troubled businessman was revoked.

Current FMSCI boss Akbar Ebrahim refused to comment on the subject. The official FMSCI website promptly removed the names of Mallya and Chandhok from the list of its FIA representatives. Earlier this year, Mallya was also removed as FMSCI honorary chairman as a result of his mounting troubles.

Thiruvananthapuram: Popular Malayalam actor Dileep was arrested here on Monday evening in connection with the abduction and sexual assault of an actor in Kochi in February this year.

The actor was apprehended following a probe into the conspiracy angle in the case after the arrest of the prime accused Sunil Kumar aka Pulsar Suni. The office of the Chief Minsiter Pinarayi Vijayan confirmed the actor’s arrest.

Mr. Dileep was taken into custody in the morning and is presently lodged at the Aluva Police Club.

The police had earlier found that Pulsar Suni had contacted film maker Nadirshah, Dileep’s close friend, over phone from the jail on at least three occasions.

Besides, an examination of the SIM cards used by Pulsar Suni had revealed that he frequently called a few numbers, reportedly possessed by people having links with Appunni – an accomplice of actor Dileep. Besides, the cops also found that Appunni had even returned calls to a couple of these numbers on some occasions.

SC orders nationwide stay on Modi govt’s rules prohibiting cattle slaughter

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered a nationwide stay on Central government’s new rules that had imposed a blanket prohibition on the slaughtering of cattle (cows, bulls, buffaloes, camels, heifers) brought from animal markets. Issued on May 23, the notification bans the sale of cattle for culling and also restrains sacrificing the animals for religious purposes.

A bench led by Chief Justice of India J S Khehar said that the stay order by the Madras High Court will “extend to the whole of the country”.

Additional Solicitor General P S Narasimha had requested the court for not issuing any order since the government was re-examining the rules and that new changes were likely to be notified by the end of August.

But the bench responded: “Livelihood cannot be subjected to uncertainties.” It said that the government could go ahead and notify the new rules but the operation of the current rules will stay for the entire country.

The court also said that the government will have to give sufficient time for implementation of the new rules and also for enabling aggrieved people to approach the court again once the new rules are notified. It disposed of the current batch of petitions.
