Rajasthan’s ‘Falahari Baba’ arrested for rape

September 23, 2017 by Nasheman

Jaipur: After three days of investigation, Rajasthan Police on Saturday arrested self-styled godman Kaushalendra Prapannacharya ‘Falahari’ Maharaj in Alwar for the alleged rape of a 21-year-old woman.

“We have arrested the Baba under Section 376 (rape) and section 506 (criminal intimidation),” Rahul Prakash, Superintendent of Police Alwar, told IANS on phone.

He said that Falahari Baba would be taken to a government hospital for a medical check and later if he is found fit and healthy he would be presented before a magistrate.

The young woman from Chhattisgarh alleged she had been raped by the 70-year-old godman at his ashram in Alwar in Rajasthan on August 7.

Her family has been the Baba’s follower for over 15 years and claimed to have given large donations to the godman.

Facing sexual assault accusations, the Baba got himself admitted in the Intensive Care Unit of a private hospital in Alwar on Wednesday under police security.

On Friday, doctors at the hospital found him fit and he was shifted to a private ward

The Baba has followers both in India and abroad.

“We have already recorded the statement of the young woman and have taken her to the ashram to identify the room where the crime occurred, and the Baba’s disciple who dropped her at the Alwar railway station thereafter on September 21,” a police official said.

Police has sealed the godman’s room, in front of which he would sit on a throne and deliver his sermon to followers.

A First Information Report was filed by the woman at Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh, which was transferred to Alwar’s Aravali Vihar police station.

The case comes in the wake of the conviction of Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh by a Panchkula Special Court on August 25 for the rape of two of his female devotees.

“It Is My Long Time Desire To Do A Period Film:” Dulquer Salmaan

September 21, 2017 by Shaheen Raaj

Dulquer Salmaan, who plays veteran star Gemini Ganesan in an upcoming Telugu – Tamil bilingual biopic Mahanati based on the legendary South Indian actress Savitri, said here in an interaction that it has been his desire for a long time to be a part of a period film, “Amazing period is being captured in films & even in TV series in the West. For a long time I have desired to be a part of a period drama. Unfortunately, in the Malayalam film industry, we don’t have huge budgets to make such period films.”

Dulquer Salmaan sharing his thoughts on Mahanati stated, “Mahanati is being made on a massive scale and I’m lucky to be a part of this project.”

Dulquer Salmaan continued by talking about the project being directed by Nag Ashwin and which stars Keerthy Suresh as Savitri, apart from Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Mohan Babu & Vijay Devarakonda, “I am thrilled to be working with a young team. Both the director & the producer are younger than me. It’s a young team with so much of energy. I have always been against the idea of bilinguals but it made a lot of sense to make this film in 2 languages.”

Dulquer Salmaan on playing Tamil actor Gemini Ganesan in the film Mahanati observed, “I’m not going to look like him. I can’t, honestly, and I don’t want to wear prosthetic. My approach is simple. I would like to be me in the phase of the 1950’s if I was a big movie star. I don’t think I should attempt to play Gemini Ganesan. You don’t really have any off – screen footage of him. You don’t know what kind of person he was off – screen. We only know his persona on screen and I can’t use that to play him off – screen.

Kavya Madhavan To File Bail Application Today?

As Dileep’s bail application it to be considered by the Judicial First Class Magistrate’s Court at Angamaly today 16th Sep, 2017 afternoon, there is another twist in the actress’ molestation case. Latest reports suggest that Dileep’s wife Kavya Madhavan is all set to file anticipatory bail application. The key accused in case Pulsar Suni had made some statements that led to Kavya Madhavan’s questioning by the Police. There were rumors that the Police is planning to submit the final report in the case after questioning Nadhir Shah, without any further arrests. Kavya Madhavan’s anticipatory bail application has come as a surprise, as a result.

Dileep Denied Bail For The 4th Time!!!

Dileep, arrested in connection with an actress’ kidnapping case has been denied bail by the Judicial First Class Magistrate’s Court at Angamaly. The actor was denied bail by the same court earlier & twice by the Kerala High Court. The actor had claimed that the charge against him by the police has been of entrusting the main accused to take nude pictures of the actress, which if proven is a charge eligible for less than ten years. In that case, he is eligible for bail after 60 days, as the charge sheet has not been submitted. However, the prosecution argued that the investigation is in the final stages and if the actor is given bail now, he could influence the witnesses. The huge number of visitors for the actor at the jail shows his influence, according to the prosecution. Meanwhile, the Kerala High Court may consider the anticipatory bail application submitted by Dileep’s wife Kavya Madhavan today.

Buddhist protesters block aid to Muslim Rohingya

Mob in Myanmar blocks relief supplies while fatal road accident hits truck carrying food to refugees in Bangladesh.

by Al Jazeera

Police in Myanmar have clashed with a mob blocking an aid shipment in Rakhine state while nine people have died in a road accident involving a Red Cross truck in Bangladesh.

Wednesday’s developments hamper urgently needed relief efforts for Rohingya Muslims who have fled violence in Buddhist-majority Myanmar.

A 300-strong Buddhist mob in Rakhine’s capital Sittwe gathered late on Wednesday at a jetty where a boat carrying relief goods was preparing to travel up river to Maungdaw, Reuters news agency said.

The mob forced the ICRC (International Committee of the Red Cross) to unload the aid from the boat and prevented the vessel from leaving, state-backed Global New Light of Myanmar newspaper reported on Thursday, quoting Myanmar’s Information Committee.

Police officers arrived as the crowd neared the jetty, while Buddhist monks also tried to calm the mob, but people began to hurl “stones and Molotov [cocktails] at the riot police,” the report said.

Eight people were detained and several police were injured before order was restored.

The ICRC confirmed the incident and said it would continue to try and deliver relief to the area.

“We will carry on, nothing has been put on hold,” Graziella Leite Piccoli, ICRC spokeswoman for Asia, told AFP news agency.

Communal tensions remain high across Rakhine where raids by Rohingya fighters at the end of last month prompted a major army crackdown, driving more than 420,000 people into Bangladesh in what the UN calls a campaign of “ethnic cleansing”.

Aid groups fear that tens of thousands trapped in Rakhine are desperate for support, even though humanitarian access remains difficult despite the government’s promise to allow safe passage.

The crisis has prompted condemnation of the country’s de-facto leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, for refusing to blame Myanmar’s powerful military for the crackdown, which French President Emmanuel Macron said amounted to “genocide”.

News of the clashes in Rakhine, where security forces have been accused of razing scores of Rohingya villages, emerged as a truck hired by the Red Cross and ICRC crashed in Bangladesh, killing nine people and injuring 10 others.

“It was carrying food to Rohingya refugees on the border, including those stranded in the no-man’s land,” Yasir Arafat, deputy police chief of Bandarban border district, told AFP.

Hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees have streamed into Bangladesh since the end of August, cramming into ill-equipped camps and makeshift shelters near the border town of Cox’s Bazar.

Aid groups have been overwhelmed by the scope of the influx and warned of an unfolding humanitarian crisis in the camps, where they are struggling to build housing and provide food rations.

The Bangladesh government is building a massive new camp nearby to shelter 400,000 people, but the UN says it will take time before it is equipped with tents, toilets and medical facilities.

Myanmar’s government has come under fire by global leaders urging the country to address the crisis and condemn the military for attacks on the Rohingya, who are widely reviled as “Bengali” immigrants in Myanmar.

But Myanmar, which has been accused of playing down the violence, is insisting the crisis was easing.

“I am happy to inform you that the situation has improved,” Henry Van Thio, Myanmar’s second vice president, told the UN General Assembly on Wednesday.

He said there have been no clashes since September 5 and added that his government was committed to allowing aid in.

“Humanitarian assistance is our first priority. We are committed to ensuring that aid is received by all those in need, without discrimination,” he said.

There were more than one million Rohingyas in Myanmar before the current crisis, though nearly half have fled since the deadly attacks on military posts by the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) fighters on August 25.

They have long been ostracised in Myanmar, where they are considered “illegal immigrants” and face severe restrictions.

Another Sadhu booked for sexually exploiting woman

September 21, 2017 by Nasheman

Jaipur: A 70-year-old self-styled godman was today booked for allegedly sexually exploiting a 21-year-old woman hailing from Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh, police said.

The woman had lodged a complaint against Kaushlendra Prapanacharya Phalahari Maharaj in Bilaspur and alleged that he sexually exploited her at his ashram located in Alwar on August 7.

“Bilaspur police have sent the complaint here. We have registered a case of sexual exploitation and initiated investigation,” SHO Aravali police station, Hemraj Meena, said. According to preliminary investigation, the woman had got an internship after completing her law studies. Gauri Lankesh murder case: SIT has facial profile of attacker

September 21, 2017 by Nasheman

Bengaluru: The Special Investigation Team which was set up to investigate on the murder case of senior journalist Gauri Lankesh now has a facial profile of her attacker.

The SIT, which went through hundreds of digital video recorders (DVRs), developed an image based on the footage from one of the CCTV cameras on the path from her office to a residence. It also scrutinised CCTV camera footage from her house, which the assailant visited twice before the murder on September 5.

A senior police officer from the SIT told “The video frames clearly show the assailant was on a Bajaj Pulsar, wearing a formal shirt and trousera (not black jacket as reported earlier), a white helmet without a visor, a wristband, a watch and office tag around his neck. The officer said the assailant is lean built and aged between 34 to 38 years. The rough facial profile has given the SIT enough leads, it is said.

Gauri Lankesh was murdered on September 5 outside her residence. Journalists across the nation condemned the killing, and remembered a fearless scribe who was often critical of the right-wing.

Rajnath’s statement on Rohingyas ‘disingenuous’, says Owaisi

September 21, 2017 by Nasheman

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday termed as “disingenuous” the statement by Home Minister Rajnath Singh that Rohingyas who have entered India after fleeing Myanmar were not refugees but illegal immigrants who need to be sent back.

Owaisi said a majority of the Rohingyas who are in India have cards issued by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Talking to reporters in Hyderabad, Owaisi said Chakmas had from Bangladesh similarly and they were given Indian citizenship. He claimed that Tamils from Sri Lanka also came to India in a similar manner.

He said that the Supreme Court had ruled that the right to life and the right to equality apply not just to Indian citizens but also to aliens.

Some 40,000 Rohingya Muslims have taken refuge in India.

The Home Ministry on Monday submitted an affidavit in the Supreme Court on the deportation of Rohingyas to Myanmar, calling them a “security threat to India”. The court will hear the issue on October 3.

“We need to understand the reality that Rohingyas from Myanmar who have entered India are not refugees. In order to get the refugee status, one needs to follow a certain process. None among them has followed that procedure,” the minister said in his address to the “National Seminar on Good Governance, Development and Human Rights” in New Delhi.

“No Rohingya has sought asylum in India and we cannot question their deportation by raising human rights concerns. Don’t mistake illegal immigrants with refugees. Any sovereign nation will act against illegal immigrants. The issue is also related to our national security,” he said.

“The world knows that Rohnigyas are stateless and disenfranchised people and are deprived of all human rights since 1947. Out of 15 lakh Rohngiyas who live in Myanmar, hardly 3,000 to 4,000 may be having documents,” Owaisi said.

He said Rohingyas who had taken refuge in Bangladesh had gone back in 1977 and 1997 under UN monitoring but were forced to flee again by the Myanmar government.

Australia restrict India to 252 all out in second ODI

September 21, 2017 by Nasheman

Kolkata: Despite half-centuries from Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane, India was restricted to 252 all out in 50 overs in the second ODI against Australia.

Kohli scored 92 runs, while Rahane made 55 off 64 balls. The duo scored 102 runs for the second wicket after India won the toss and opted to bat. Kane Richardson, playing his first ODI since February 2016, took 3-55. Nathan Coulter-Nile also returned 3-51.

India lost Rohit Sharma (7) quickly, caught off a simple return catch by Coulter-Nile in the sixth over. Kohli and Rahane then came together and steered the Indian innings, scoring 50 runs off 51 balls.

The score crossed 100 in the 20th over. Kohli overcame his patchy start and reached his 45th ODI half-century off 60 balls. Soon after, Rahane reached his 20th ODI half-century off 62 balls.

Their 100 partnership came off 113 balls, but was then broken against the run of play. Kohli forced Rahane for a second run in the 24th over, and the latter was run out, unable to beat Hilton Cartwright’s throw from long on. It became a double blow as Ashton Agar (1-54) bowled Manish Pandey (3) cheaply four overs later.

Kedar Jadhav (24) then joined Kohli in the middle and put on 55 runs for the fourth wicket. India was slacking a bit in the middle overs as Australia exerted great control over the run-rate.

Jadhav then got out trying to force the pace, caught at backward point off Coulter-Nile in the 36th over. There was another double blow when MS Dhoni (5), playing in his 300th ODI for India, was caught.

It was only the fifth time in ODI cricket that Kohli had got out in the nervous 90s. The last occasion was in Perth in January 2016 when he scored 91 against Australia.

India crossed 200 in the 38th over, but the big blow came just prior. Kohli played on off Coulter-Nile and was bowled eight short of yet another ODI hundred. Overall, he faced 107 balls and hit eight fours.

Hardik Pandya (20) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (20) added 33 runs before a 15-minute rain break prior to the end of the innings.

There was some debate about the players walking off for rain, as Pandya was caught off a no ball in the 48th over just as the covers came on. Australia then affected a run-out as the batsman walked back to the dressing room without grounding his bat, but the umpires ruled in Pandya’s favor.

On resumption, Kumar was out caught after Smith dropped a skier. India lost two wickets in three balls as Kuldeep Yadav (0) was caught behind off Richardson in the penultimate over.

Pandya’s anticipated flourish never came, and he was caught at long on in the final over for Richardson’s third wicket. India finished with a below-par score losing its last four wickets for 13 runs.

Dawood in ‘setting’ with Modi government to return to India: Raj Thackeray

September 21, 2017 by Nasheman

Mumbai: Fugitive mafia don Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar wants to return to India and is currently negotiating a settlement with the BJP-led government at the centre, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena President Raj Thackeray said here on Thursday.

Making the sensational claim, Thackeray said that Dawood is now very sick and crippled, he is very keen to return to India and breathe his last in his motherland.

“He is currently engaged in a ‘setting’ with the government for this and this could happen,” Thackeray said at a huge gathering to launch his official Facebook Page.

However, he alleged that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party will exploit it politically by claiming that it managed to bring the absconder don to India.

“It is he (Dawood) who is keen to return… But, the BJP will claim credit for this to win the next elections,” Thackeray predicted.
