Salman Khan Black Buck Poaching Case Verdict to be Announce on April 5

March 29, 2018 by Nasheman

A Jodhpur court will announce on April 5 the verdict in the 1998 black buck poaching case against actor Salman Khan.

The court of the chief judicial magistrate (Jodhpur Rural), where the trial of the case has been in progress for the last 19 years, reserved the judgment today after the final arguments.

Magistrate Dev Kumar Khatri reserved the order to be pronounced on April 5 in the presence of Khan and other accused, including a local, Dushyant Singh.

Khan’s counsel H M Saraswat said the final arguments in the case began on September 13 last year with the prosecution counsel citing the statements of the eyewitnesses of the case.

“After the completion of the prosecution’s arguments on October 23, we began our arguments on October 28 last year and completed on February 4,” he said.

After this, the counsels for the co-accused began their arguments, which completed on March 24, he said.

Khan was accused of killing two black bucks on October 2, 1998 in Kankani village in Jodhpur during the shooting of “Hum Saath Saath Hain”.

He was acquitted in two poaching cases by the high court and in a case under Arms Act by the lower court.

20 flights affected in Bengaluru after Indigo aircraft tyre burst

March 29, 2018 by Nasheman

As many as 20 flights to and from Bengaluru were diverted after an Indigo aircraft suffered a tyre-burst while landing at Hyderabad airport on Wednesday night.
Operations at Hyderabad Airport were affected between 10:28pm on Wednesday and 2:22am on Thursday.
Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) officials said that ten flights were diverted from Hyderabad to Bengaluru. Four other Hyderabad-bound flights returned to Bengaluru.

The cascading effect led to delays in several flights. BIAL officials said four flights from Bengaluru were diverted to Chennai and one each to Mumbai and Coimbatore.
Sources say operations at Bengaluru airport were affected due to additional traffic.

One common reason for Tyre burst during take off or landing, is the presence of pieces of debris fallen on runway from the immediate previous flight.

Several flights from Hyderabad airport were diverted to nearby airports like Bengaluru and Chennai since the Indigo aircraft was stranded on the runway forcing Rajiv Gandhi International Airport authorities to suspend operations.
The Indigo 7117 carrying 77 passengers took off from Tirupati Airport around 8.55 pm and landed at Hyderabad airport at around 10:25 pm on Wednesday. One of the tyres burst during landing, however, airline officials, clarified that all 73 passengers including an infant were evacuated safely.

BJP thriving on divisive politics – AICC spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi

March 29, 2018 by Nasheman

All India Congress Committee (AICC) national spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi slammed BJP and alleged that the party was playing divisive politics and filling hatred among people.

Addressing media here on Thursday, March 29, Priyanka said, “It is a known fact how BJP misrules and misgoverns the states where they have power. Now they continue doing the same at the Centre. While the Congress government under Siddaramaiah has worked towards creating healthy environment, we have seen how BJP continued to neglect farmers’ issues and challenges that they face. The BJP has created a lot of distress in Dakshina Kannada,”

“Mangaluru is a significant contributor for the GDP in the state. This area is known for social justice, as a hub of education and also as cradle of banking sector,” she added.

“The state government’s various policy initiatives in terms of waiving farmer’s loan, assisting with drift irrigation farming and many more have benefitted thousands of farmers. The policies of the state government have ensured farmers’ benefit and growth in the state,” she informed.

“However, we see total disregard and apathy coming from the Centre for the policies. The Centre’s import policies have been harming rubber plantations in the district. These policies have been drafted at the Centre at the cost of our farmers. They even said that areca is cardiogenic without any study, and evidence to back their claim. They are hurting and hitting out at the farmers of the district,” she said.

“We are constantly talking about development and they do not have any development agenda. The tried and tested politically patented strategy of BJP is about pitting one community against other, creating division in the minds of people in places which are known for peaceful co-existence. BJP wants to grow at any cost and at the cost of peace and harmony of this district,” Chaturvedi charged.

“This agenda of the party does not focus on development, but on creating hatred in the minds of people. We are committed to ensure that law and order prevails and we also see a political party which is hell bent on creating trouble. I am sure that people of Dakshina Kannada will ensure that these divisive policies will not thrive,” she said.

“Election dates have been announced and we can see in the last two days how BJP national president Amit Shah has helped us in campaigning claiming Yeddyurappa government as the number one corrupt government in the country. In another rally, he claimed that Modi’s policies are anti-people and anti-Dalit which is an admission of guilt. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has asked the centre to resolve Mahadayi issue and to have dialogue with two states, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi refused to answer. The CRPF headquarters which was supposed to come up in Karnataka is now moved away to a state,” she explained.

“In the year 2017, Karnataka faced one of the worst droughts. We were expecting some sympathy or else at least equality in distribution of funds. Karnataka received Rs 1,435.95 crore compared to Rs 8,196 crore to Maharashtra, Rs 3,894 crore to Gujarat, and Rs 2,153 crore to Rajasthan where BJP is ruling. Even the IBPS exam were conducted in English and Hindi, due to which Kannadigas found it difficult to appear as there was no option of Kannada. We questioned the Centre in this regard, but have received no answer,” she said.

“I am expecting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to answer all these questions when he comes for campaigning in this area and I am also confident that people will turn their backs on divisive politics,” she concluded.

Chief whip of legislative council Ivan D’Souza, Mayor Bhaskar Moily and others were present.

Kapil Sharma Cancels Shoot With Rani Mukerji

March 29, 2018 by Nasheman

Kapil Sharma has reportedly cancelled shoot with Rani Mukerji, who was supposed to promote her new film Hichki on Family Time With Kapil Sharma, the comedian’s new show. The first episode of Family Time With Kapil Sharma aired on Sunday. “The team was to shoot the episode yesterday evening but Kapil informed in the morning that he won’t be able to make it, and so the shoot was cancelled,” a source told Indian Express. Just last week, it was reported that Kapil’s shoot with Baaghi 2 stars Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani was also cancelled. The cancelled shoot with Rani has apparently left the entire team ‘worried.’ “There is a lot of expectation riding on Kapil. This being his second innings, he should be a little careful. People are ready to rip him apart. We hope he pulls up his socks and gets back to serious business to give the quality that is expected from him,” the source told Media.

Of his shoot with Tiger and Disha, Kapil, via a tweet, clarified that the actors ‘were never supposed to shoot for an episode with him.’ “Tiger was never supposed to shoot for our second episode, so shoot cancel hone ka sawaal hi paida nahi hota. Kuch toh authenticity rakha karo yaar. Twitter kya ab explanation dene ke liye hi reh gya hai? Best wishes to my brother Tiger Shroff for Baaghi 2. See you soon bro… Lots of love,” tweeted Kapil Sharma.

Kapil Sharma has a reputation for having cancelled shoots for his previous show The Kapil Sharma Show. Stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, Arjun Kapoor and Anil Kapoor and Ajay Devgn had to leave the sets due to Kapil’s absence. However, Ajay Devgn was the first guest of Family Time With Kapil Sharma.

Family Time With Kapil Sharma is the comedian’s comeback show, he was previously hosting The Kapil Sharma Show, which went off air some months ago. The embattled show’s viewership dipped enormously after Kapil Sharma’s former co-star Sunil Grover quit the show after a mid-air fight. Kapil reportedly resorted to alcoholism and was admitted to a rehab.

Some weeks ago, Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover had a bitter Twitter exchange over the new show.

Family Time With Kapil Sharma failed to impress the audience and also features Navjot Singh Sindhu, Chandan Prabhakar and Kiku Sharda.

Fire breaks out in chemical factory in Karnataka’s Malur town

March 29, 2018 by Nasheman

A major fire broke out in an oil factory in Malur industrial area of Kolar district today.

There were no immediate reports of any casualties.

While workers suspected some people to be trapped inside, the factory management told police there was no loss of human lives.

“We have been able to contain 50 per cent of the fire”, said a police officer from Malur police station, adding no one has been able to go inside.

“The factory management says there were no workers. Hence, no casualties. Some others are saying that a few workers are trapped inside. We can talk about casualties only after going inside,” the police officer said.

Fire fighters were making all efforts to douse the fire.

Big drums of oil were exploding one after the other, making it difficult for fire fighters to venture closer to the factory, police sources said.

Why Congress and JD(S) are Likely to Ignore Mamata’s Advice on Pre-Poll Alliance

March 29, 2018 by Nasheman

Any tie-up between the Congress and the JD(S) could be disastrous for both even if they manage to decimate the BJP in half of Karnataka.

The day dates for Karnataka Assembly elections were declared, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee asked the Congress to ally with former prime minister HD Deve Gowda’s Janata Dal (Secular).

Speaking to the media, she had said, “Deve Gowda is a nice person. The Congress should go with him to defeat the BJP.”
A few hours before Mamata’s “nice man” certificate, Gowda had himself offered an olive branch to the Congress, saying he was ready for a tie-up. Before that, some well-known public personalities, led by 100-year-old Gandhian HS Doreswamy, had met Gowda and requested him to help the Congress and others defeat the BJP, which they called a “communal party”.

Minutes after his 85-year-old father’s offer of support to the Congress, ex-chief minister HD Kumaraswamy took on the Congress, categorically denying the possibility of any pact with the Congress.

An hour later, Gowda, too, did a U-turn, saying he was not interested in doing business with the Congress. All through these developments, the Grand Old Party, surprisingly, has kept quiet.

According to political analysts in Karnataka, Banerjee is not aware of the ground scenario in the state and a tie-up with the ruling Congress is impossible as both parties are in a direct fight with each other in at least 60-70 seats.

Any tie-up between the Congress and the JD(S) could be disastrous for both even if they manage to decimate the BJP in half of Karnataka. That’s because party cadre on the ground don’t see eye to eye in their respective strongholds and many may move to the BJP.

Contrary to popular belief that Karnataka is a three-party state, the Congress is the only party which is in contest in all 224 seats. The main opposition BJP is strong in about 160 seats and the JD(S) is in contention in about 70-80 seats.

In Old Mysore region, a JD(S) stronghold except state capital Bengaluru, it is more or less a direct fight between the Congress and the Gowdas. In the rest of Karnataka, the fight is between the Congress and the BJP. Only in 25-30 seats is the contest a triangular one. In such a scenario, an electoral understanding between the Congress and JD(S) would be politically not viable.

Both Rahul Gandhi and Siddaramaiah are openly attacking the JD(S), calling it a ‘B’ team of the BJP. During his last two visits to Gowda strongholds of Hassan, Mandya and Mysore, Gandhi ridiculed the JD(S) saying the ‘S’ in JD (S) stands for ‘Sangh Parivar’ and not for ‘Secular’.

By branding JD(S) a ‘B’ team of the BJP, Siddaramaiah is trying to ensure that Muslim votes and non-BJP, non-Congress votes don’t go to the JD(S).

Offering support to the Congress also gives Gowda an excuse to go with the BJP if the elections result in hung verdict. The Congress vs Gowda war of words over alleged pact with the BJP has even embarrassed saffron party leaders. Commenting on the allegations, BJP state unit chief BS Yeddyurappa said his party was going to win 150 seats on its own and there was “no need” for an alliance with the JD(S).

I-T publicly names defaulters owing Rs 490 crore taxes

March 29, 2018 by Nasheman

The Income-Tax Department on Thursday released a pan-India list of 24 defaulting individuals and companies who owe about Rs 490 crore in taxes to the exchequer but have either gone untraceable or have reported inadequate assets for payment of dues

The department issued an advertisement as part of its name and shame defaulters policy in leading national dailies titled ‘List of defaulters of Income Tax and Corporate Tax’

The notice, issued by a nodal office of the Principal Director General of Income Tax in Delhi, “advised” the named defaulters to pay their tax arrears immediately

The public announcement carries the identity of the firm or the individual, the name of their directors and partners, the date of incorporation of the company (date of birth in case of individuals), their Permanent Account Number (PAN) or the Tax Deduction Account Number (TAN), their last known address and business profile, the amount of tax defaulted, assessment year and the respective jurisdictional I-T authority

These defaulting firms were in the business sectors like food processing, bullion trading, software, real estate, breweries and manufacture of ingots among others

The maximum tax dues of over Rs 86.27 crore is against a Delhi-based company named Ms Stock Guru, India and its partner Lokeshwar Dev and the notice said the assessee has gone untraceable and also has inadequate assets to pay the income tax

The dues for this firm are for the assessment years (AYs) 2009-10 and 2010-11. Some of the defaulters on the list have not paid their taxes for the assessment year 1989-90

A Kolkata-based individual Arjun Sonkar, as per the notice, has an I-T default of over Rs 51.37 crore and is “not traceable” now. He is followed by Kishan Sharma, another individual from the West Bengal capital, who the department said is in default of Rs 47.52 crore of income tax.

The total tax default amount by 24 entities, from cities like Ahmedabad, Guwahati, Vijaywada, Nashik, Surat, Delhi, Vadodara, Kolkata and others, is about Rs 490 crore

A senior I-T Department official said the public list is aimed to make people aware so that they can help the department in nabbing these defaulters, if they have any information about them

The notice also carried a disclaimer that the “entries in the list are specific to the tax arrear/assessment year mentioned and the tax defaulter’s address, business, shareholding and management may have changed” now

It added that the amount of default “shall further increase” after due interest is levied on it

The department has carried out this exercise over the last few years and?had named 96 such entities which have huge tax liabilities on them but they have either gone non- traceable or have shown no assets for recovery

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the policy- making body of the I-T department, had few years back adopted the strategy of bringing out the names of chronic defaulters in public domain and had also begun posting these names on its official website.

Smith apologies for ‘failure of his leadership’

March 29, 2018 by Nasheman

Breaking down often during a press conference, a distraught former Australia skipper Steve Smith on Thursday apologised for his involvement in the ball tampering scandal and took full responsibility for it.

Smith, who along with his deputy David Warner was banned for a year, arrived here on Thursday and appeared before the media when he admitted that the Cape Town ball tampering scandal was a failure of his leadership.

“I am sorry. I want to make it clear that as captain of the Australia Cricket team I take full responsibility. I made a serious error of judgment and I now understand the consequences,” an emotional Smith told reporters.

“I will do everything I can do to make up for my mistake and the damage it has caused. If any good can come of this, it can be a lesson to others, and I hope can be a cause for change,” he added.

Smith, who was stripped of the Australian captaincy for at least two years, owned full responsibility for the whole scandal that broke out during the third Test against South Africa in Cape Town.

“I’ve been privileged and honoured to represent my country. Cricket has been my life and I hope it can be again.

“I’m sorry and I’m absolutely devastated. I don’t blame anyone. I’m the captain of the Australian team. It’s on my watch and I take responsibility for what happened,” he added.

68 killed in Venezuela prison fire

March 29, 2018 by Nasheman

At least 68 people were killed in a fire at a prison in Venezuela’s Carabobo state, according to a government official.

“The Public Prosecutor’s Office informs the public that in the face of the terrible events that took place at the General Command of Carabobo, where 68 people died in the wake of a fire, we have appointed four prosecutors to clarify these dramatic events,” Chief State Prosecutor Tarek Saab tweeted on Wednesday.

The Scientific, Penal and Criminal Investigation Service Corps (Cicpc) as well as the Prosecutor and the director of the Carabobo Police Jose Aldama, are investigating to identify the cause of the incident, reports Efe news.

The blaze reportedly started after prisoners set fire to mattresses in an attempt to break out on Wednesday.

Relatives surrounded the station after news of the fire broke.

The situation soon turned violent, leading the 20 state police officers who were guarding the station to launch tear gas.

Last month inmates at a different prison in Carabobo took a number of prisoners and guards hostage in another riot.

‘Modi govt playing with sentiments of people’

March 29, 2018 by Nasheman

Attacking the Narendra Modi government over its alleged failure to fulfil promises made to Andhra Pradesh post-bifurcation, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday accused it of playing with people’s sentiments.

“You are playing with people’s sentiments. It may give you temporary political benefits, but will cause permanent damage to the nation. We may differ in politics, but if it causes damage to the nation, it is not good,” the Andhra Pradesh CM said.
Making a suo-motu statement in the Assembly on the all-party meeting held on Tuesday, the CM flayed the Modi government, vis-à-vis fulfilment of the promises made to AP post-bifurcation.
“The Centre cannot arm twist the states. It cannot happen and we will not let it happen,” he asserted.
The Chief Minister displayed video clips of Modi’s speeches, made on different occasions, promising not only to honour the promises made in the AP Reorganisa- tion Act, 2014 but also ‘do much more’ to the state.
Chandrababu questioned if it was co-operative federalism or Team India spirit to not honour promises made to a state.
The Prime Minister owed an explanation to five crore people of Andhra Pradesh on this, he said, adding the centre “cannot discriminate between states.”
Noting that he had called for peaceful protests, seeking justice from the Centre, CM Naidu said the Centre would be happy if there was any violence “because it does not want Andhra Pradesh to develop”.
