Convergence among various entities vital: JS Agriculture
Ashish Bhutani, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India has said that there is a need for a convergence among various entities involved in farmer-related initiatives as gaps in transmission impacts implementation of such schemes.
He was addressing a national conference on ‘Enhancing Credit Flow to Agriculture’ organised by FICCI.

“Agriculture credit outflow is increasing every year and in the current financial year the target is Rs. 11 lakh crore. Close to 50-60% of credit outflow is to small and marginal farmers which is a positive sign but we need to monitor where is this money going”, added Bhutani.

He said, “states have to come on board in order to synergise and sync all the issues to form a comprehensive plan to ensure that small and marginal farmers are brought under the ambit of institutional credit system.”

R Amalorpavanathan, Deputy Managing Director, NABARD said there is a need for integrated financing system for the farmers. “Ultimately, credit is a function of trust and distress emanates from the squeezing of the profits of the farmers.”, he said.

Dr. BB Pattanaik, Chairman, Warehousing Development and Regulatory Authority (WDRA), Government of India, said that warehousing can be a game-changer in improving profits of the farmers. “Huge private sector participation has helped in creating high-end, mechanised storage system for the agriculture sector”, he said.

He also informed that WDRA has a seamless online process for registering a warehouse, “Only those warehouses that plan to issue negotiable warehouse receipts, have to register with WDRA. But for proper remuneration to farmers, there has to be as many registered warehouses as possible”.

Pravesh Sharma, Advisor- Agriculture, FICCI, in his theme address, said that agriculture in India is rapidly commercialising, but without risk mitigation, more than three-fourths of the farmers rely on the informal market for credit which provides credit at higher interest rates. “Of small and medium farmers, which comprise 86% of total farming population, only 15% have access to institutional credit”, said Sharma.

Modi & Xi meeting crucial for the stability of world trade order: FICCI

April 25, 2018 by Nasheman

Says, a stronger India-China ties, which is not in any direct confrontation with the US, is the need of the hour

“The proposed meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on April 27-28 in Wuhan is an opportunity for both the countries to discuss a roadmap for not only resolving the bilateral issues, but also the steps to ease pressure on the world trade due to the protectionist measures, especially by the US,” said Rashesh Shah, President, FICCI.
While China’s increasing dominance in world trade has made its role extremely significant in defusing the possibilities of a global trade war, India has shown in the last few months that it can play the role of a facilitator for serious dialogues on this issue, he added.
“It is quite encouraging that China has already indicated that positive results are expected on globalisation and the threat of rising protectionism from the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping,” said Shah.
The very realisation of the fact that both the countries being the emerging markets with large population have common interests in world trade and they must work together to ensure that trade protectionism doesn’t prove to be a dampener in the global economic recovery can go a long way in bringing together the nations with diverse interests to work on moves that facilitate a stable world trade order, added Shah.
“Along with the understanding to work together in furthering global trade, PM Modi must also discuss with President Xi the greater opening of the Chinese markets for the Indian products,” he said.
A stronger India-China ties, which is in the interest of the world trade, but not in any direct confrontation with the US, is the need of the hour, and FICCI is highly optimistic about the positive results from the meeting between the two leaders, he added.

We will win with huge majority : Sudesh Verma BJP spokes person

April 25, 2018 by Nasheman

Expressing confidence of winning the upcoming state elections, BJP national spokesperson Sudesh Verma said that Karnataka has been handed over an excellent opportunity to be a part of the big movement led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing media here on Wednesday, April 25, he said, “We are confident of gaining the upper hand with decisive majority in the upcoming elections. Karnataka now has the opportunity to vote BJP to power to be under the leadership of PM Modi. We are lucky to have Modi has our prime minister who has a broad vision of ‘Sab Ka Saath Sab Ka Vikas’ in which we are gaining support across the country.
“The public will exercise their franchise in the interest of the state and the country on May 12. We are confident of winning with a high majority. It will be a landslide victory like how the BJP fared in Tripura and other states. PM Modi has taken up the initiative of driving the country towards development. Schemes like ‘Krishi Sinchayi Yojana’ and ‘Fasal Bheema Yojana’ have benefitted agriculturists. ‘Mudra Yojana’, health cards to beneficiaries, job creation in private sectors, entrepreneurship development, skill development and other facilities provided by the government to has led to a happy and contended public.

“Coastal Karnataka has become famous for wrong reasons. Dozens of Hindus, RSS and BJP activists have been killed, but the district administration does not seem to be bothered. The present government is busy appeasing the minorities which is not good. The government belongs to all, not just one community. There has been cattle theft as well. Once our government comes to power, all these issues will be taken up,” he said.

State BJP spokesperson Anwar Mannipady said, “The state government has not utilized the funds meant for development of minorities. The BJP will request for votes by playing the religion card. Congress has always taken advantage of communal violence incidents. BJP has never neglected the minorities and treated everyone equally.”

Leader Monappa Bhandary and Yogesh Bhat, BJP spokesperson Sulochana Bhat and others were present.

Bangalore up against confident Chennai : IPL

April 25, 2018 by Nasheman

(IANS) Flying high on confidence, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be eyeing to keep their winning momentum flowing when they face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in an Indian Premier League (IPL) tie at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Wednesday.

The Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Chennai side, who staged a comeback in the cash-rich league after two years, have yet again shown why they are considered the the IPL’s most successful team.

The yellow brigade have won four of their five games and most of their batsmen have fired on more than one occassion, guiding CSK home.

With the likes of in-form Ambati Rayudu, Shane Watson, Suresh Raina, Dwayne Bravo and the skipper himself, CSK has the ability to put a massive total on board or chase any challenging target.

In the bowling department, young Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur have been impressive with each bagging six wickets from five and four games respectively.

While Chahar has an economy rate of 7.60, Thakur has been a bit expensive with 9.50 runs per over.

Also, all-rounder Watson has six wickets to his name with an economy of under eight.

Leg-spinner Imran Tahir, medium-pacer Dwayne Bravo and leggie Karn Sharma have also came with breakthroughs for CSK at crucial times.

On the other hand, RCB, led by Virat Kohli are placed six in the points-table with just a couple of wins from five games.

Despite having stars like AB De Villiers, Mandeep Singh, Quinton de Kock and Brendon McCullum, Bangalore’s batting has been inconsistent, except for Kohli.

The RCB skipper has accumulated 231 runs from five games, averaging 57.75.

If De Villiers, who blasted an unbeaten 90 off 39 balls in RCB’s last game against Delhi Daredevils, repeats the show, life would be difficult for Chennai.

Bangalore however, has failed to find the perfect opening partnerships, which could be a major cause of concern.

In the bowling department, the spin duo of Yuzuvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar, who have bagged five and four wickets respectively, will again be eager to put a better show as CSK have struggled against spin this season.

All-rounder Chris Woakes has been outstanding so far, picking up 8 wickets, while pacer Umesh Yadav also been equally good with eight wickets.

Overall, an exciting contest will be on cards when the two sides resume their intense rivalry after two years at the batting-friendly Chinnaswamy wicket.

Teams:

Royal Challengers Bangalore: Virat Kohli (Captain), Quinton de Kock(WK), Brendon McCullum, AB de Villiers, Sarfaraz Khan, Mandeep Singh, Chris Woakes, Washington Sundar, Kulwant Khejroliya, Umesh Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Colin de Grandhomme, Moeen Ali, Manan Vohra, Aniket Choudhary, Navdeep Saini, Murugan Ashwin, Pawan Negi, Mohammed Siraj, Corey Anderson, Parthiv Patel, Aniruddha Joshi, Pavan Deshpande, Tim Southee.

Chennai Super Kings: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Captain/WK), Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Faf du Plessis, Harbhajan Singh, Dwayne Bravo, Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu, Deepak Chahar, K.M. Asif, Kanishk Seth, Lungi Ngidi, Dhruv Shorey, Murali Vijay, Sam Billings, Mark Wood, Kshitiz Sharma, Monu Kumar, Chaitanya Bishnoi, Imran Tahir, Karn Sharma, Shardul Thakur, N Jagadeesan.

Survival in Bollywood sans PR: An actor-writer opens up

April 25, 2018 by Nasheman

(IANS) PR or “pyaar” — Manurishi Chadha’s mind space keeps oscillating between what’s more gratifying — getting recognition through the charted public relations route or the pure love that he gets for his acting and writing credentials from the audience once in a while walking the streets like any other common man.

“Main toh bina PR ke zinda hun (I’m surviving in the industry without PR)” is how Chadha responded to an interview request by IANS.

It’s a tightrope to walk on. More so at a time when PR managers are trying to decide, drive, curb and control any word that goes out about a film and its talent.

“I came to Mumbai with a wish to do good work, to build an identity and gain popularity. Quite a lot of work is happening, but the popularity is a little less. People say do PR… But the heart and mind are not in sync about what is this PR? How does it happen? To what extent does it happen? How much does it cost?

“I don’t get the right answers, and PR gets left behind… Then suddenly, I come across people who express heartfelt praise. I feel content and forget about PR. This has been going on since ‘Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!”,” Chadha, 47, said.

To many Bollywood buffs, Chadha can be best remembered for his role as the hilarious Bengali from “Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!” or Anni from “Phas Gaye Re Obama”. But there’s a lot more to his oeuvre.

He worked in the Delhi theatre circuit before shifting to Mumbai to pursue his Bollywood dreams back in 1999. Initially, he assisted actor-director Rajat Kapoor and waited to get good roles.

In the meantime, he started writing songs for TV shows and even worked as a third dialogue writer. But an introduction to Dibaker Banerjee, who helmed “Oye Lucky…” changed life for Chadha.

Apart from roles in “Mithya”, “Ek Chalis Ki Last Local”, “Mixed Doubles”, “Band Baaja Baaraat”, “Ankhon Dekhi”, “Happy Bhag Jayegi”, “Phas Gaye Re Obama” and the latest “Nanu Ki Jaanu” — which he has also written — Chadha has put his writing talent to use for “Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!”, “Aisha”, “Yeh Saali Zindagi”, “Kya Dilli Kya Lahore” and “Tubelight”. His upcoming films include Rishi Kapoor’s “Rajma Chawal” and Govinda’s “Fryday”.

When “Phas Gaye Re Obama” came in 2000, it was after 10 years of working in Mumbai that Chadha found himself featured on a movie poster.

“There are people who say ‘Work will take you where you want to reach’. So I concentrate on work and realise that I am surviving without PR whether it is with good, bad, hit, flop films, at least I am working.

“I work with new directors, and I also write dialogues for filmmakers like Kabir Khan and Leena Yadav.”

Chadha may seem ignorant about PR, but he admits it hurts when filmmakers are made to shell out oodles of money on publicity, and still as a writer and actor, he is not given visibility.

“When you ask, the answer hurts. They respond politely that we sent in your name to publications, channels and online portals, but the media doesn’t want the writer or supporting actor. I quietly assimilate this bitter truth and return to work. My work is my habit, and popularity is a desire… I believe desire must not exceed your habit.

“When I see that actor-writers who are notches better than me also just doing their work, it gives me strength.”

Filmmakers in India keep cribbing about a dearth of good writers. Is that true or is there just a dearth of opportunities for new talent?

“Filmmakers crib when they don’t get good stories. The truth is there are good stories, there’s talent but there’s a lack of platforms where new writers can take their fresh approach and treatment to a script and present it to good filmmakers.

“Secondly, I feel mostly people don’t crib because if a star says ‘yes’ to a script, there’s hardly a need for a story (hahaha). So, it’s tough to decide whether there’s a lack of opportunity for new talent of filmmakers are not ready only to tell new stories. But I know there are truly hungry talented people waiting for one good producer, one good director and good writer to meet each other.”
