Karan Johar Introduces 6 Pack Band 2.0

Karan Johar recently introduced a 6 Pack Band named 2.0 for mental disability awareness with Y-Films & Brooke Bond Red Label. India’s 1st transgender band, the Brooke Bond Red Label 6 Pack Band exploded on to the scene in 2016, winning millions of hearts across the globe and became India’s most awarded campaign ever. The band had special collaborations with Anushka Sharma, Hrithik Roshan, Sonu Nigam, Asha Bhosle, amongst others, that became huge talking points.

In its 2nd edition, the 6 Pack Band 2.0 focuses on the important theme of Mental Health & Disability. Celebrated Producer & Director – Author – Host Karan Johar joins this cause to change the way we perceive children with different abilities.

India’s 1st isspeshal band, the 6 Pack Band 2.0, comprises of 6 teens between the ages of 13 to 18 (3 girls & 3 boys) with special needs but incredible music skills, drive & passion. Their spirit, their infectious energy, their resolve & their life stories are extremely inspiring. The band has been conceived & produced by Ashish Patil, Head of Y-Films, the youth wing of Yash Raj Films & curated by Shameer Tandon. They’re here to show the world that no disability can hold you back if given the right kind of love & support.

Given the extensive research he’s done on Autism for his film My Name Is Khan, Karan Johar is deeply invested into his support for the cause. As the month of April is also “Autism Awareness Month”, the band’s launch becomes even more special. Karan avers, “It’s so wonderful to see these young & super talented kids come together to create something so epic. I’m excited to be a part of something I know will not only change you & me but also have the power to change the world. I can’t wait to see what these kids will do next; they are here to conquer the world with their talent!”

Head of Y-Films, Ashish Patil adds, “Y-Films has always created content that does more than just entertain. Be it for gender equality, LGBTQ support or Sex Education, we’ve been at the forefront in getting these important messages across in the most fun manner. Being a special needs parent myself; the theme of mental health & disability is very, very close to my heart. I know what one goes through as the world judges these kids day in & day out. But I’ve also learnt from my son how to take that with a smile, to accept everyone as they are & to spread happiness unconditionally. With 6 Pack Band 2.0 we really hope to show everyone how these kids are the missing puzzle pieces this world needs to complete itself!”

The band’s curator Shameer Tandon adds, “I am elated to be part of this path breaking journey of 6 Pack Band 2.0 with Y-Films. Last year along with Ashish Patil, we set out to enable a life altering experience for the LGBT community which took us the entire way to perform at the Cannes festival. This year our focus is mental health awareness. Rarely does one get an opportunity to nurture innocent & raw talent in these truly special children. Music is a universal language they say; these kids beautifully connect the notes with their voice. There’s lot one can learn about life from them, like the ability to stay immersed in every task with a smile.”

Shiva Krishnamurthy, General Manager, Beverages, Hindustan Unilever adds, “Brooke Bond Red Label stands for inclusiveness. We encourage people to overcome their prejudices & find common ground with fellow human beings over a steaming cup of chai. A delightful way of doing this has been our partnership with YRF. Encouraged by the overwhelmingly positive response that India’s 1st ever transgender band received, we are back with India’s most special band. We hope that our talented band members receive similar love this time around as well.”

Prasanth Kumar, Mindshare CEO South Asia, Middle East & Africa adds, “Brooke Bond Red Label 6 Pack -The journey needs to go on. And that’s exactly what we have been working on post the 1st ever phase of “Brooke Bond Red Label – 6 pack initiative”. As we continue this journey, we are back with “6 Pack Band 2.0” – collaboration between the Team Mindshare & Y-Films. This would continue to focus on some important & pertinent social issues and how the world needs to be more accommodating & inclusive. We as Mindshare have believed in this journey and we are at it working together to make this another delightful experience. It’s been motivating for all of us as we also saw many of the global recognitions (Glass Lions Grand Prix at Cannes) blessing all of us. The work for Brooke Bond Red Label “6 pack 2.0” is in resonance with the brand ethos of Brooke Bond Red label that has always stood for inclusion & partners the campaign. BBRL 6 Pack band 2.0 addresses social ostracism of people with mental disability, thereby making the world a more welcoming place for all. Power & full throttle to the “#ISSPESHAL6!”

The band’s 1st single, “Jhakkad Pakkad Dance” celebrates life. It showcases how we all need to shed our ignorance & our inhibitions. And learn to accept everyone as they are and dance like no one’s watching. Shot all over the city, it shows the band having a blast as they perform without a care in the world. The song has been written by Kumaar and the video has been directed by ace choreographer Adil Shaikh.

Mental health & disability is a matter of critical importance as World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that almost 20% of the world’s population needs some or the other form of medical intervention. And almost 80% of cases go untreated for at least the 1st ever 12 months due to the stigma associated. Specifically, 1 in 68 children are affected by autism with the condition being 5 times more prevalent in boys than the girls. This campaign hopes to create much more awareness, conversations & hopefully impact about this important theme over the 6 songs & 6 music videos that it will release over the next 6 months.

The Brooke Bond Red Label 6 Pack Bandmates are Ananya Halarnkar, Anjali Ramesh, Maitreya Matale, Paarth Padhye, Prerna Agarwal & Rishaan Patil.

The music Credits include Composer & Music Director Shameer Tandon, Lyricist Kumaar, Intro Written by Ashish Patil, Music Supervisor: Ahan Shah, Music Assisted by: Tushar Wader, Talent & Project Manager Harsh Pandya.

Giving a ticket to seven members from the Reddy clan, which is embroiled in an alleged Rs 50,000 crore mining scam, seems to have gone against the BJP in Karnataka, leading to a furious debate and embarrassment for several party leaders.
BJP chief Amit Shah has cancelled his scheduled tour of Bellary district on Friday to avoid the embarrassment of sharing the dais with the infamous Reddy brothers in their fiefdom, claim party sources.

Giving a ticket to seven members from the Reddy clan, which is embroiled in an alleged Rs 50,000 crore mining scam, seems to have gone against the BJP in Karnataka, leading to a furious debate and embarrassment for several party leaders.
BJP’s state president and the party’s chief ministerial candidate BS Yeddyurappa has added fuel to fire with his statement that he has pardoned the Reddy brothers “in the interest of the state”.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who has made the return of the Reddys one of the main election issues, has attacked Yeddyurappa for “pardoning” the Reddys.

Bike Borne Indore Model sexually harassed

An Indore based model suffered an accident after men sexually harassed her. The model posted the picture to show her bruises. A model from Indore has recently narrated a disgraceful incident of sexual harassment she faced in broad daylight on Mon 23rd Apr, 2018.

The model, in a series of tweets, talked about how 2 men tried to pull her skirt when she was riding a 2 wheeler on a busy road, and told her “dikhao iske niche kya hai” (Show what’s underneath).

The girl tried to get hold of the duo, but in the process lost control of her scooty, and met with an accident. She posted a picture of her bruised leg on social media platforms.

“This happened recently. 2 guys tried to pull my skirt while I was on my activa and said, “dikhao Iske niche Kya hai?” I tried to stop them and lost control and met with an accident.” she said in her first tweet with a request of anonymity.

What makes this incident more shocking is that it happened in a busy area, but no one cared to intervene.

“It happened on one of the busiest roads of indore, and nobody tried to stop them. They ran away, and I couldn’t even see their number. I’ve never felt so helpless. I’m not the kind of girl who will just sit & watch. Those fiends ran away, and I couldn’t do anything.” she averred.

“My friends took me to a nearby cafe and I tried my level best to let this incident go. Not because I’m weak, but for those 30 minutes, I wasn’t ready to deal with it. I was numb. I was speechless.” read her tweet.

To make things more humiliating for the model, one man blamed the girl for wearing a skirt.

“What I want to wear is my fucking choice. Those guys don’t have any right to harass me because wearing a skirt doesn’t give you a right to behave like that. An uncle who came to help me after my fall said, “it’s because you’re wearing a skirt!” I’ve never been so offended.” the infuriated model stated.

Expressing concern at what could have happened if it was a deserted road, she further tweeted, “I decided to go live on my instagram and talk about it. Just imagine if I wasn’t on such a busy road. Or just imagine if I was on a lonely street. Would those guys have stopped at trying to pull my skirt?”

She also urged other victims of sexual harassment to speak up about their ordeals as she feels silence would only help the culprits.

“So many girls go through this. Most of them decide not to talk about it. Why? It’s embarrassing, yes. But not talking about it is empowering those guys who think they can do anything and can get away with it.” her another tweet read.

The young model also said that she later went to the same location to trace down the 2 men, but she found the area lacked any CCTV camera. The model said she would file a police complaint against the men.

This horrifying incident came to light at a time when the nation is outraged by the numerous cases of rapes & crime against women, minor girls & even toddlers.

LTA to review traffic light scheme at right-turn junctions following fatal accidents

April 27, 2018 by Nasheman

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) will install red-amber-green arrows in as many of the 1,600 traffic junctions as possible in the coming years.

This means motorists will have to wait for the arrow to turn green before making a right turn. There have been suggestions in recent days for authorities to do away with the “discretionary” right turn, following two fatal accidents at traffic junctions.

“In five years, the vast majority of traffic junctions will have red-amber-green (RAG) arrows,” said Mr Chandrasekar, LTA’s group director of traffic and road operations on Thursday (Apr 26).

“Where it is not feasible to implement RAG arrows, LTA will look into other features, such as turning pockets, lighted road studs, integrated pedestrian countdown timers, dashed pedestrian crossing lines and ‘Give Way to Pedestrian’ signs, to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow,” he said.

Paralysed Women from neck down writes book using eyes

April 27, 2018 by Nasheman

A young woman who was left paralysed from the neck down after suffering a severe stroke has written a book using only her eyes.

Mia Austin, 29, was just 21 years old when a stroke left her trapped in her own body, unable to speak.
Diagnosed with ‘locked in syndrome’, a condition doctors describe as “the closest thing to being buried alive:, she can see, hear, and think as normal, but cannot move from the neck down and has to be fed through a tube.

Austin can only communicate through eye movement and a spelling chart – the method she used to pen her book, In the Blink of an Eye.

In her introduction, Austin writes: “I must have woken on the morning of November 16 2009, totally oblivious as to what was going to happen because I’d been to work, as usual, nothing different, followed by the gym where I did my normal workout.”

She further writes, “I went straight in to tell my mum how badly I’d done (at the gym) and she replied ‘There’s always tomorrow’…How ironic.”

“Welcome to my story all about me. Now you can get into the head of a stroke victim,” she then elaborates.

After Austin suffered the stroke at her home in Wirral, doctors told her family to expect the worst. They didn’t believe Austin, who was put on a life support machine at Arrowe Park Hospital, Merseyside, would survive the night.

However, as they were preparing to withdraw life support, Austin opened her eyes.

Despite being completely immobile, doctors realised she could still see, hear and think as normal and she was diagnosed with ‘locked in syndrome’ a week later.

Speaking of his daughter’s book, Austin’s father Rick said: “Personally, I feel incredibly proud of Mia. To write a book in quite literally a blink of an eye is outstanding. It took her around one year to write but it was a very laborious task, using her eyes to choose each letter.”

The family, including Austin’s bother Sam, 32, and sister Sophie, 25, all helped Austin using a spelling chart to write poems and short stories in the hospital. Carole said, “As you can imagine using the spelling graph took forever, it was very tiring for her, it is so much easier now she has the special computer.”

The book sees Austin write about her experiences and addresses all the questions everyone probably wants to know but are too polite to ask.

The book is by no means Austin’s only incredible feat of determination. She completed a criminology course at Wirral Metropolitan College in 2017 before signing up for a forensics course with the Open University. And this year she will begin another course in criminal justice.
