Dictatorship has become a profession under Modi government: Rahul Gandhi

September 19, 2018 by Nasheman

A day after Congress workers were lathicharged in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district, party President Rahul Gandhi attacked the Narendra Modi government saying that dictatorship has become a “profession” and the attack would be remembered as an act of “political atrocity”.

“Under Narendra Modi’s regime, dictatorship has turned into profession. The attack on Congress workers’ fundamental rights by Raman Singh’s government in Bilaspur will be remembered by citizens as an act of political atrocity,” Gandhi said in a tweet attaching the video of the lathicharge on the party workers by Chhattisgarh Police.

Congress workers were lathicharged on Tuesday in Bilaspur district during a protest against state Minister Amar Agarwal.

The Congress workers were beaten by the police after they spilled garbage at Agarwal’s house. Over a dozen Congress workers were injured in the lathicharge by the police including senior party leader Atal Srivastava.

Rafale deal: Government not to satisfy ego of ‘ill-informed’ Congress leaders

September 19, 2018 by Nasheman

The government on Wednesday said a probe by a Joint Parliamentary Committee or Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) cannot be set up to go into the 36 Rafale fighter jet deal to satisfy the ego of a “ill-informed” Congress leaders.

“I don’t think JPC or CAG inquiry is set up to satisfy the ego of an ill-informed leader who repeats lies with alarming regularity,” Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told the media here.

The remarks came soon after a Congress delegation headed by senior leader A.K. Antony met the CAG and submitted a memorandum seeking an “urgent probe” into the purchase of 36 Rafale fighter jets by the Modi government.

Prasad said what struck him more was the presence in the delegation of Antony, who was the Defence Minister for eight years during which nothing was done for modernisation and empowerment of Indian armed forces.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said that Antony was the Minister when the offset rule was framed and who left the HAL in the lurch as far as joint operations were concerned.

“Antony has a lot to answer,” Prasad said, adding that the Indian Air Force badly needed planes as old aircraft were leading to repeated accidents and pilot deaths.

“Should the Congress at least not rise to the occasion for the sake of the country’s safety and security?” he asked.

Custom officials arrested two people and siezed 1.3 KG of gold.

September 19, 2018 by Nasheman

On Sunday, customs officials at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) arrested two people who were attempting to smuggle 1.3kg of gold valued at around Rs 41.31 lakhs, by hiding it in their sandals.

A passenger by the name of Samseer Ali, who was flying to Bengaluru from Dubai via Goa, had hidden a paste made of gold in the sole of his sandals. On reaching Goa, his accomplice Salman Faris boarded the flight and sat next to Ali. The two exchanged sandals on the flight. On reaching Bengaluru, the duo were caught by officials who noticed their suspicious behaviour.

When they were questioned, it was discovered that the two were smuggling the gold and Faris’ sandals were cut open to find 1.3kg of gold paste in them.

Earlier, on Saturday, another man flying in to Bengaluru from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Malaysian Airlines was caught by officials for trying to smuggle gold. The man, identified as 47-year-old Moideen Kunja Mohammed Shafi, had been wearing gold jewellery weighing 568 grams and roughly worth about Rs 17.91 lakh. He had hidden the gold under his clothing.

In yet another incident, officials seized two gold kadas weighing 333 grams and estimated to be valued at Rs 10.50 lakh from 44-year-old Vinod Kumar Parasmal Jain and 38-year-old Pinto Kumar on Thursday. The two were flying in from Dubai on Oman Air and had concealed the kada below their clothing.

In the last week alone, five people have been arrested by officials for attempting to smuggle gold. Over 2kg is the estimated weight of the seized gold, and it has been speculated that the total worth of the seized metal is nearly Rs 69.75 lakh.

Union Cabinet clears ordinance to ban triple talaq

September 19, 2018 by Nasheman

In a major victory for thousands of Indian Muslim women, the Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved an ordinance making triple talaq a punishable offence.

According to reports, the Union Cabinet also cleared an executive order in this regard.

Giving more information, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, ”Cabinet has today approved an ordinance on Triple Talaq. The core component of this Ordinance is that an offence will be cognizable only when the FIR is filed by the victim wife or her close relations by blood or marriage.”

”Secondly, it’s compoundable, it can be compromised only at the insistence of the wife upon appropriate terms and conditions as determined by the magistrate. Thirdly, a bail can be granted by the magistrate upon reasonable grounds but only after hearing the victim wife also,” Prasad said.

”As for other provisions are concerned, the mother/victim wife must get the custody of the minor child and the mother is entitled to a maintenance suitably determined by the magistrate for herself and the child,” the Law Minister said.

The BJP leader also accused the Congress party of blocking the triple talaq bill in the Rajya Sabha. ”It’s my serious charge with full sense of responsibility that a distinguished woman leader is ultimate leader of the Congress, yet barbaric inhuman triple talaq was not allowed to be ended by a Parliamentary law for pure vote-bank politics,” Prasad said.

Law Minister RS Prasad says, “It’s my serious charge with full sense of responsibility that a distinguished woman leader is ultimate leader of the Congress, yet barbaric inhuman Triple Talaq was not allowed to be ended by a Parliamentary law for pure vote bank politics”

The Narendra Modi government decided to bring an ordinance on the issue after it failed to get the triple talaq bill cleared by both the houses of Parliament.

The ordinance, to be brought by the Centre, will have similar provisions as The Muslim Women Protection of Rights in Marriage Act, which was cleared by the Lok Sabha with a voice vote last year.

The triple talaq bill pushed by the Government had met tough resistance from several Opposition lawmakers in the Rajya Sabha.

While opposing the bill, the opposition lawmakers had pressed for sending the bill to a Select Committee for close scrutiny.

In view of the Opposition to the proposed legislation, the Centre had even sought the opinion of all state governments on the subject, and, most of them had supported it.

The bill, earlier approved by the Lok Sabha, makes instant “triple talaq” a criminal offence and proposes a three-year jail term for a Muslim man who divorces his wife by uttering the word “talaq” thrice.

The bill to make talaq-e-biddat void and illegal has provisions for imprisonment and fine for anyone invoking it.

It also deals with subsistence allowance to a Muslim woman and her children from the estranged man as well as custodial rights of minor children.

The bill terms instant triple talaq delivered in any form – whether delivered orally, including telephone or a mobile call, or in writing or through the electronic medium like WhatsApp or SMS – illegal.

The Supreme Court had last year declared instant triple talaq illegal and unconstitutional.

After the top court ruling, the Centre had formed a Group of Ministers (GoM) comprising Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad to look into the issue.

Several Muslim women had approached various courts, arguing that age-old practice of husbands divorcing them through “Triple Talaq”, including by Skype and WhatsApp, violated their fundamental rights and rendered them helpless and unwanted in the society.

HC rejects plea seeking formula of petrol pricing

September 19, 2018 by Nasheman

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday dismissed an application seeking direction to the Centre to disclose the formula on the basis of which daily prices of petroleum and diesel are fixed.

A bench of Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice V. Kameswar Rao refused to interfere with the government policy on fixing petrol prices.

The court was hearing an application, filed by Delhi-based designer Pooja Mahajan. Her advocate A. Maitri sought direction to call the records from the government, including oil companies to disclose the formula and furnish details on the basis of which the daily fuel prices are fixed.

The petitioner said that people were suffering irreparably because these prices were being enhanced on presumption.

Maitri said that the oil manufacturing companies were selling their old stock of petrol and diesel at enhanced prices while admittedly the said stock was purchased at a cheaper rate.

As per official claims, petrol and diesel prices are fixed on account of increase in international prices. Admittedly, international price of crude oil is fixed on barrel basis, the plea said.

The application was filed on the pending public interest litigation by the petitioner in which she has sought direction to the central government to fix a “fair price” of petrol and diesel as it is a policy matter which involved larger economic issues.

The court has asked the government to consider an earlier representation pending before it on price rise of petrol and diesel.

Mahajan had filed a similar plea in July but the high court had then directed the Centre to treat the PIL as a representation.

The petitioner has sought a directive to the Centre to fix a “fair price” of petrol and diesel in line with the Essential Commodities Act.

Jarkhiholi-Sriramulu family to change K’taka political scenes!

September 19, 2018 by Nasheman

All these years the people of Karnataka have been hearing about Vokkaliga-Lingayat dominated political pressure tactics, moves etc. But for the first time, the influential Valmiki (ST) caste leaders are creating ripples.

If sources in both the BJP and the Congress are to be believed then Congress strongman Ramesh Jarkhioli and BJP leader B Sriramulu are likely to join hands together and make a move which will bag the DCM post to either of them.

“The community leaders are trying to strengthen the bond between both the leaders by proposing a marriage between the second son of Ramesh Jarkhiholi and elder daughter of B Sriramulu. In the meantime, the BJP has offered major irrigation portfolio to Ramesh in the event of him switching over to the party. Ramesh wants the DCM post either for him or for Sriramulu.

“All these days Karnataka was witnessing the politics of upper castes. Why not lower caste leader who are numerically significant,” questions a leader from Valmiki community.

An Interaction With Hollywood Actor Boyd Halbrook

September 19, 2018 by Shaheen Raaj

Robert Boyd Holbrook an American actor & fashion model, has appeared in films such as Milk, Out The Furnace,, Run All Night, A Walk Among The Tombstones & Gone Girl. He also starred as DEA Agent Steve Murphy in Netflix series
Narcos. Besides Hatfifields & McCoys as “Cap” Hatfield, and in the year 2017, he had portrayed a villain’s role named Donald Pierce in Logan. Incidentally speaking Boyd Holbrook was discovered while he was working as a part – time carpentar for Jenny Wiley Theatre in Kentucky. Later on he signed with Elite Models, whereas he has also worked for other agencies such as Wilhelmina Models. Boyd Holbrook has been a model for such designers & labels as Gucci, Jean Paul Gaultier, Hugo Boss, Bill Blass, Calvien Klien, Moschino, Marc Jacobs, DSquared et al. Boyd Holbrook has been steadily building an impressive career, working in drama & action on screens big & small. In his latest released movie The Predator, he enacts the role of a troubled military man, Quinn McKenna, looking to protect his family from an otherworldly threat.

*To set the ball rolling in your court, tell us what role are you enacting in your just released movie The Predator?

*In my latest released movie The Predator I am enacting the role of a character named Quinn McKenna, he is an ex – Special Force. He’s basically doing contract work. Probably not a lot really to live for in the sense that he is very detached from his son. He is also estranged from his wife. He is kind of a rogue. He is living from paycheck to paycheck; if you got a job in South America and you need somebody, he is your guy. We find him in Mexico and he has got these objects on him after a mercenary job has gone wrong. He has found all this Predator gear, these gauntlets & this de – cloaking things. He needs to get them back home because no one is going to believe him. He sends them to his son, but then he gets arrested & sent to a military psych ward for some evaluation, partly because the Government is trying to keep the Predators under wraps. He is aware of them, but there’s a cover – up. He has to team up with these guys who in some ways have been kind of rejected and are all suffering from some form of PTSD. They call themselves “the Loonies” and they’re a throwback to the team from the 1987 movie.

*And how does another character namely Jacob Tremblay’s Rory becomes a part of the story of The Predator?

*Rory happens to be Quinn McKenna’s son and they don’t have a close relationship, mainly because Quinn Mckenna doesn’t know how to connect with him or relate to him. I think that audiences will relate to the challenges they deal with as it speaks to some very human issues.

*Now tell us how did you land the role of Quinn McKenna in the movie The Predator?

*Initially I had met director Shane Black & we sat down for a lengthy discussion. I read out the script and I talked to him a little bit about it. And then we just kept a long conversation going on. So that’s basically how it worked out.

*So how was it working with director Shane Black as a director?

*I found him to be pretty brilliant. He has a ways to hinge a scene that, whatever the subject matter, he finds these comedic beats. You have to be on your toes with him, really on your toes.

*Was he also collaborative with the entire cast of The Predator? Besides did you all of you get to pitch ideas?

*Oh, absolutely… the 1st ever day on the sets, we rehearsed a scene before lunch. Everyone was spit – balling ideas, coming up with lines, you know. We broke for lunch, and afterwards, Shane Black just asked us to sit with him. He had turned our spit – balling ideas into a 2 page scripted scenes to shoot right then & there.

*By the way did the entire cast of The Predator bond well?

*Yeah. I think in general, actors are pretty playful & empathetic people, so no one was a diva by any means on this one. You couldn’t have cast the film better because of the way it was shot. Augusto Aguilera plays Nettles, & he’s brilliant. Alfie (Allen) did something great with his character. Keegan’s (Michael Key) had all this experience with sketch comedy & knows what works & what doesn’t. And then you have Thomas Jane, who’s doing one of the most incredible character.

*In amongst all the CG movies, there are a lot of practical sets & locales. Did that help you as an actor?

*Yeah, it really did. We were actually working in a real space. It’s so much better than reacting to something that is an X on a wall or something like that.

*By any chance did you watch the original Predator?

*I think the 1st ever Predator had came out when I was just 6 years old, and I probably watched it when I was just about 10 years old or may be 12 years old. I thought it was terrifying. Yeah, it’s pretty terrifying. I think it was also just one of the great thrillers like Bloodsport, Rambo & all those sorts of macho films of that time.

*Lastly tell us what exactly was the vision of director Shane Black for The Predator and did he succeed in putting across on the celluloid silver screen?

*I think The Predator sees writer / director Shane Black returning to a world he may have 1st experienced way back in the year 1987 as an actor. In this new film, The Predator I think he has expanded & explored the story of the alien hunters & the human beings that must face the threat. With the Government attempting to cover up the extent of Predator incursions on Earth, a rag – tag group of military veterans must figure out what is going on and how to save the world, or at least themselves, as the battle spreads from the depths of the outer space to the once – safe suburbia. That’s all I can say as of now.

7 arrested in Telangana honour killing case

September 19, 2018 by Nasheman

Telangana Police on Tuesday said that they have arrested seven accused over the killing of a Dalit youth, who was hacked to death last week in a case of honour killing. The accused include a hired killer from Bihar.

The police revealed that T. Maruthi Rao, the main accused, struck the deal to kill his son-in-law Pranay Kumar for Rs 1 crore.

The accused include Asgar Ali and Mohammed Abul Bari, who were earlier arrested and acquitted in the murder of former Gujarat Home Minister Haren Pandya.

Pranay Kumar, 23, was hacked to death on Friday as he was coming out of a hospital in Miryalguda town of Nalgonda district along with his wife Amrutha Varshini, with whom he had an inter-caste marriage.

Nalgonda Superintendent of Police A.V. Ranganath told reporters that they have cracked the sensational case, which evoked huge public outrage.

Amrutha and Pranay, who were in love since their school days, had married in January this year against the wishes of her father Maruthi Rao, a businessman who comes from an upper caste.

According to the police, Maruthi Rao hatched the plot to eliminate Pranay with the help of Asgar Ali, Bari and Abdul Karim. Maruthi Rao’s brother T. Shravan and driver S. Shiva are the other accused.

The police chief said the conspiracy was hatched in July. The deal was struck for Rs 1 crore though Asgar and Bari had demanded Rs 2.5 crore. Maruthi Rao had paid Rs 15 lakh advance.

“In the meantime, when Amrutha became pregnant, his father tried to pressurise her to abort because he was afraid that if Pranay is killed and a child is born to her daughter, it will lead to more problems. She, however, refused to abort,” the SP said.

The investigations revealed that the gang failed to execute the plot on couple of occasions.

As the couple was sensing danger to their lives, the police had suggested them to install CCTVs around their house. On August 17, they hosted a wedding reception, which further angered Maruthi Rao and he speeded up his efforts to get Pranay killed.

On September 14, when Pranay was coming out of a hospital along with his wife following a regular pregnancy check-up, an unidentified armed with axe attacked him from behind. Pranay died on the spot even as his wife ran into hospital screaming for help. The horrific images were captured in CCTV.

After questioning Maruthi Rao and others, the police identified the killer as Subhash Sharma, a native of Bihar, whom Bari had met in Rajahmundry Central Jail.

Sharma was taken into custody from Jagatsinhpur in Samastipur district of Bihar. A Samastipur police officer Paritish Kumar said Sharma was arrested by a team of Telangana Police along with the local police. He was produced in a court and handed over to the Telangana Police on transit remand.

Both Asgar Ali of Nalgonda and Bari of Hyderabad were arrested in 2003 for their alleged involvement in the killing of former Gujarat Home Minister Haren Pandya. The police had claimed that they underwent terrorist training.

An anti-terror court in Gujarat had sentenced them along with seven others to life imprisonment in 2007. However, Gujarat High Court later acquitted them.
