[Nasheman news] New Delhi The residents of national capital on Monday woke up to a cold morning as the mercury touched 3.8 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season’s average, the Met Office said.

“There was shallow to moderate fog in the morning along with dense fog in some parts of Delhi. The sky will remain clear with no chance of rainfall. Later in the evening, there will be haze and mist,” an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.

The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 22 degrees Celsius, the season’s average, while the day’s minimum will remain around 4 degrees Celsius.

According to IMD, the cold wave condition is likely to continue for the next 2-3 days.

Tight security for New Year eve revelry in Bengaluru

December 31, 2018 by Nasheman

[Nasheman news] Bengaluru  Security has been tightened and vigil stepped up across the city to ensure peaceful celebrations of the New Year eve on Monday night by revellers, said a top police officer on Sunday.

“About 10,000 police personnel, including women constables, will be deployed in and around the city to maintain law and order and prevent untoward incidents on the New Year eve,” Bengaluru Police Commissioner T. Suneel Kumar told reporters here.

Briefing media on measures taken to usher in the New Year in a spirited way by the citizens, especially revellers who throng downtown and upscale areas, Kumar said about 80 platoons of reserve police force and 250 police women would be stationed in the central business district (CBD) from Monday evening to Tuesday morning for patrolling.

“Vehicles will not be allowed to ply from Monday 9:00 p.m. to Tuesday 6:00 a.m. on Brigade Road, a stretch of M.G. Road, Church Street, Lavelle Road, Richmond Road and Museum Road, with no parking 1km around the CBD area as revellers will assemble to celebrate the event,” Kumar said.

As women, girls and children will also flock to downtown and visit malls, hotels, restaurants and shopping plazas, police men and women in plain clothes will keep a watch on trouble makers and eve-teasers.

As part of the vigil, 270 jeeps and 1,200 patrolling bikes will move around the areas to regulate the movement of revellers gathering from all over the city and from outside.

Four drone cameras and four LCD display systems on giant screens and 15 watch towers will monitor the revellers in the CBD area and track down mischief mongers.

“Vehicular traffic will not be allowed on flyovers and elevated roads from 9:00pm on Monday to 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday to prevent drunken driving by tipplers and road mishaps by revellers,” Kumar added.

Though eateries, pubs, clubs and restaurants will be allowed to remain open till 2:00 a.m., owners will be responsible for any incident in their premises.

Manush claims double crown at national TT championships

December 31, 2018 by Nasheman

Sonepat Manush Shah completed a grand double when he won back to back finals in the junior and youth boys categories at the 11Sports 80th Junior and Youth National Championships here on Sunday.

This was the first double title triumph for Manush at a national event.

Manush beat Ronit Bhanja of West Bengal 4-1 to win the youth boys title.

In the junior boys final, Manush played a brilliant attacking game against Delhi’s Payas Jain. The southpaw needed just four games 11-6, 11-7, 11-7, 13-11 to lift the title.

The confidence of the Gujarat left-hander was impeccable and his free-flowing strokes were always difficult for the opponent to handle as Payas would have realised. The Delhi boy, who played well throughout and even led his team to the first title, could not overcome the powerful Manush.

In the junior boys semis, Jain defeated Raegan Albuquerque 4-1 while Maush beat Deepit Patil 4-0.

Within a few minutes after claiming the junior boys title, Manush had to be ready for his battle against Rohit Bhanja for the youth Crown.

Putting his fatigue behind, Manush focused on the task at hand and defeated Bhanja despite the stretched first game and a couple more.

Exploiting the angles and executing his shots to perfection he posed a lot of problems for Bhanja, who managed to take a game of him. But beyond that Bhanja couldn’t do much against Manush, who was full of confidence and determination during his 18-16, 12-10, 10-12, 11-4, 11-5 triumph.

3rd Test: India beat Australia by 137 runs, lead series 2-1

December 31, 2018 by Nasheman

[Nasheman news] MelbourneIndia defeated Australia by 137 runs in the third cricket Test to take a 2-1 lead in the four-match series here at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday.

With the fourth Test starting on January 3, the Indians are now in with a chance to register their first ever series win on the Australian soil.

The play on the fifth and final day was delayed due to rain.

Most of the opening session was lost to the inclement weather, and the play resumed in right earnest only after lunch.

Resuming their second innings at the overnight score of 258/8, the Australian batsmen could battle for only 27 deliveries before being dismissed for 261 runs.

Pat Cummins, who had delayed the Australian defeat with a heroic half-century on the fourth day, was the first to return to the pavilion on the fifth day.

The tail-ender had added only two runs to his overnight score when he edged a delivery from Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah to Cheteshwar Pujara at first slip.

Cummins scored 63 off 114 balls, hitting five boundaries and a six over the course of his gritty innings.

Ishant Sharma then dismissed Nathan Lyon with a short pitched delivery to complete the victory.

Lyon tried to go for the pull, only to edge a simple catch to wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant.

The victory saw Virat Kohli become the first Indian captain to retain the Border-Gavaskar trophy on the Australian soil. The Indians had clinched the trophy in the 2016-17 season when they pipped Australia 2-1 in a four-Test series at home.

Kohli also equalled former skipper Sourav Ganguly’s record as the most successful Indian captain on foreign soil.

This was Kohli’s 11th away win as captain in 24 Tests. Ganguly had achieved the same number of wins off 28 matches.

The current Indian team has registered four Test wins away from home this year. They thus notched up the most away Test wins by an Indian team in a calendar year. The previous record was three Test wins, all of which were achieved in New Zealand way back in 1968.

Pacer Ishant Sharma, who dismissed Nathan Lyon to complete the victory, became the sixth most successful Indian bowler in Test cricket with 267 wickets to his name.

The list is headed by leg-spin great Anil Kumble with 619 scalps. He is followed by Kapil Dev (434), Harbhajan Singh (417), Ravichandran Ashwin (342) and Zaheer Khan (311).

Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah also cornered a piece of history by notching up the best-ever figures by an Indian pacer in Australia with his match haul of 9/86. The previous best was achieved by Kapil Dev with his 8/109 during the Adelaide Test in 1985.

Bumrah has claimed 48 wickets in 2018, the best ever by an Indian in his debut year in Test cricket. He is third on the overall list behind former Australian pacer Terry Alderman and former West Indies star Curtly Ambrose.

Alderman had 54 Test scalps to his name in 1981 while Ambrose took 49 wickets during his debut year in 1988.

With 42 dismissals in 2018, India’s rookie wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant equalled former Australian stumper Brad Haddin’s record of most dismissals by a wicket-keeper in his debut calendar year. Haddin had set the record in 2008.

Brief scores:

Australia: 151 & 261 (Pat Cummins 63, Shaun Marsh 44, Usman Khawaja 33; Ravindra Jadeja 3/82, Jasprit Bumrah 3/53) vs India: 443/7(d) & 106/8(d) (Mayank Agarwal 42, Rishabh Pant 33; Pat Cummins 6/27)

Rathore defends BJP for promoting ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’, questions Congress over freedom

December 28, 2018 by Nasheman

Nasheman News : A day after the trailer of ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’, was released on Thursday, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore defended his party for ‘extending wishes’ for the film, and hit out at the Congress asking why the party, which has been a champion of freedom, is now questioning that freedom.

“Can’t we extend our wishes to a film?” Rathore told the media outside Parliament on Friday.

Attacking the Congress, the Minister said, “Congress has been all for freedom, why is it questioning that freedom now?”

Meanwhile, Manmohan Singh, who earlier in the day arrived at the Congress headquarters to celebrate the party’s foundation day did not comment when asked by the media for a reaction to the trailer of the movie based on the book by his former media advisor Sanjay Baru.

The controversy over the movie erupted after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday evening promoted the trailer of the movie from its official Twitter handle.

The BJP tweeted the movie trailer saying, “Riveting tale of how a family held the country to ransom for 10 long years. Was Dr (Manmohan) Singh just a regent who was holding on to the Prime Minister’s chair till the time heir (Rahul Gandhi) was ready? Watch the official trailer of The Accidental Prime Minister, based on an insider’s account, releasing on 11 January.”

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also criticised a Congress youth leader in Maharashtra for opposing the release of the film without a preview.

“Dr Singh’s record and legacy won’t be the product of one single movie or book,” he said.

Taking a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Abdullah continued, “Can’t wait for (the film) ‘The Insensitive Prime Minister’. So much worse than being the accidental one.”

The film, which will be released on January 11, stars Anupam Kher as Manmohan Singh, the economist and politician who served as the Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014 in the United Progressive Alliance.

‘Thackeray’ director unfazed by box office clash

December 28, 2018 by Nasheman

Nasheman News :  Abhijit Panse, director of “Thackeray”, based on the life of Shiv Sena founder isn’t worried about competing with Kangana Ranaut’s “Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi” and Emraan Hashmi-starrer “Cheat India”. He says if a film is good, it will work.

All the three movies will hit the screens on January 25, 2019.

Asked if Panse would like to change the release date of “Thackeray” — based on Bal Thackeray’s life — he told IANS in a telephonic interview: “We have already announced the date. We won’t change it. We were thinking of releasing it on January 23, which is Thackeray Sir’s birth anniversary date but later we thought of releasing it on 25th,” he said.

“As far as other films are concerned, every year, more than 52 films are made. So, every Friday, either one or two or three films release. The public knows everything and will see ‘Manikarnika…’ as well as ‘Cheat India’. If the film is good, it will work. As a director, I want all the films to work,” he added.

Meanwhile, Bala Lokare, secretary of Chitrapat Sena, posted on Facebook that since “Thackeray” will be arriving on January 25, they will not let any other film release on the same day.

The film, which features Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the Shiv Sena supremo, has been talk of the town since its trailer launch on Wednesday. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) reportedly raised objections to the trailer, hours before its launch.

In fact, south Indian actor Siddharth even tweeted: “Nawazuddin has repeated ‘Uthao lungi bajao pungi’ (lift the lungi and *’#$) in the film. Clearly hate speech against South Indians… In a film glorifying the person who said it! Are you planning to make money out of this propaganda? Stop selling hate! Scary stuff!”

Talking about the dialogue, Panse said: “In the Marathi trailer, there was a sentence — ‘Uthao lungi, bajao pungi’. It was Balasaheb’s slogan. It is history. He had said it. Even in his magazine, there were cartoons on south Indians. The censor board should understand that we have made a film keeping the character in mind and not the controversy. Balasaheb was a controversial personality. The screening (for CBFC) is going to happen on January 2. Let’s see.”

But he is not open to making changes in the film.

“Of course we will stick to that (what we have made). It’s history. It’s all on YouTube and other platforms. Everyone knows Balasaheb’s speeches. He used to talk in front of lakhs of people. It’s not like we have made new statements. It was his personality. So, we have to portray that,” said the director.

The film will focus on the political leader’s “struggles and fights”. He said “Shiv Sena was not built in a day. The film is about how a common man became a superman”.

As a filmmaker, he feels that it is important to present the story to the audience.

“It is an inspiring story. The Marathi (version of the) film is tax free,” he said adding that he would discuss with his team about seeking tax-free status elsewhere too.

Syria army enters Kurdish-held Manbij: state media

December 28, 2018 by Nasheman

Reported troop entry into Manbij comes after Kurdish YPG asked for government help in preventing a ‘Turkish invasion’.

Syria’s army says it has entered the flashpoint city of Manbij, according to state media, after the country’s main Kurdish armed group invited government forces to take control of the northern area and protect it from a threatened Turkish offensive.

State-run Sana news agency said the army raised Syria’s flag in Manbij on Friday.

It also pledged to guarantee “full security for all Syrian citizens and others present in the area”, according to Saba.

However, Reporter Mohammed Adow, reporting from Gaziantep on the Turkish border, said residents of Manbij dispute the Syrian army’s claim.

“Manbij residents who we spoke to have said that they have not seen any sign of Syrian forces in their city but what we know is that Syrian government troops have already been on the outskirts of the city, where they were part of an international coalition that is fighting remnants of ISIL,” he said.

The military declaration came moments after the People’s Protection Unit, or YPG, made an appeal to President Bashar al-Assad’s government to prevent a “Turkish invasion”.

Turkey, which views the YPG as a “terrorist” group, had threatened a military operation against Manbij to remove the Kurdish-led forces there. Turkey and its allied fighters have been amassing troops around the city in recent days.

Our correspondent said the YPG’s appeal was a “tactic by its fighters to avoid confrontation with the Turkish forces who they of course know they are no match for”.

The Turkish threats triggered the US announcement it would withdraw troops from Syria. A timetable for the withdrawal has not yet been made public.

But the surprise US decision rattled allies and the US Syrian Kurdish partners, who scrambled to find new allies to protect their Kurdish-administered areas in northern Syria.

Assad’s government has said it welcomes the Kurdish group returning under its authority.

But government officials have stated they will not consider an autonomous area, a main demand for the Kurds.

There was no immediate response from Turkey or the US.

Russia welcomed the Syrian army’s entry into Manbij.

“Of course, this will help in stabilising the situation. The enlargement of the zone under the control of government forces… is without doubt a positive trend,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

Sami Nader, director of the Levant Institute for Strategic Studies, said Syrian troop entry into Manbij, if confirmed, was a “significant development”.

“It is a solution all regional powers can accept because Turkey doesn’t want US troops in Manbij, while the other players don’t want Turkish troops there,” he told media from Beirut.
