Ali Zafar’s first Pakistani film can now be viewed by Indian audience

Pakistani singing sensation and actor Ali Zafar’s first Pakistani film “Teefa In Trouble” can now be viewed by his Indian fans as it will be available on the streaming platform Netflix from Saturday.

“Me and my team are more than delighted to announce that ‘Teefa in Trouble’, which went on to become the biggest non-holiday blockbuster of all time and is running in its fourth month in Pakistan, will now be available to audiences in India and all over the world on Netflix to watch and enjoy,” Ali told IANS.

“I can never let go of the love and admiration I have always received from fans and audiences in India and I am overjoyed that I could reconnect with them once again through ‘Teefa…’. I hope they enjoy it as much as people did in cinemas,” he added.

Ali has served as an actor, a producer, singer and writer of the romantic action comedy film, which hit the screens in about 25 countries in July.

He had joined hands with India’s popular banner Yash Raj Films for the international theatrical distribution of his home production.

Earlier in an interview with IANS, Ali had said: “I hope that it (‘Teefa…’) gets screened over there (in India) and makes a mark.”

After making a promising acting debut in India with the Bollywood film “Tere Bin Laden” in 2010, Ali featured in Hindi movies like “Mere Brother Ki Dulhan”, “London, Paris, New York” and “Dear Zindagi”.

Vijay feels Australian pitches will help him bat better

 India opener Murali Vijay feels his game will flourish on the bouncy pitches in Australia after scoring a fine 129 on the fourth and final day of the only warm-up tie against Cricket Australia XI here on Saturday.

Vijay, who struggled in the Test series against England before being dropped from the India squad, hit 16 fours and five sixes enroute to his hundred.

“It was good to get some practice hitting over the boundary. I just took the chances which came my way. I wanted to be in a positive frame of mind since I knew that opportunities will be there. I have been working hard on my game and fitness, and am hoping to contribute in this series,” Vijay told reporters.

Vijay posted a 109-run stand with fellow opener Lokesh Rahul, who returned to form with a 62. The duo gave the Indian think tank something to cheer about after first-choice opener Prithvi Shaw got ruled out of the first Test in Adelaide due to an ankle injury.

“I am ready (after playing county cricket, tour matches in New Zealand and Australia). I just want to go out there, contribute and give a good start to my team. I have always been aiming for that and nothing is different this time,” Vijay said.

Vijay said he was excited about playing Test cricket on Australian soil again and is aiming to reproduce the good form he had displayed during the series here in 2014.

Asserting that he share a good co-ordination with Rahul since both of them hail from the same part of India, Vijay hoped that the duo will be able to carry their current momentum into the first Test.

“I like to play on the backfoot so Australian conditions suit my game. You get good bounce in Australia, so you can play your shots,” he said.

What kind of Hindu is Modi, who does not understand foundation of Hinduism: Rahul

Congress President Rahul Gandhi attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday and asked what kind of a Hindu he is that he does not understand the foundations of Hinduism.

“It is fascinating for me that what is the essence of Hinduism. You please study Hinduism. What does Gita say? It says that Knowledge is with everybody. Knowledge is all around you. Our Prime Minister says that I am a Hindu but he does not understand the foundation of Hinduism.

“What kind of Hindu he is? That is the contradiction,” Gandhi said during an interaction with the business community and professionals here.

Gandhi alleged that Modi thought he was the repository of all wisdom and because of it he took decisions like demonetisation without consulting anybody and the surgical strikes.

“Modi says knowledge is with me, knowledge is with me, everything …..,” he said.

Drawing a comparison with late Atal Behari Vajpayee, the Congress chief said his party and Vajpayee used to fight each other “but his (Vajpayee’s) tone, his language was different. He had character and respect,” he said.

Bankers to go on strike on Dec 26

 The United Forum of Bank Union (UFBU) – a consortium of nine unions in the banking sector – will strike work on December 26 opposing the merger of Bank of Baroda, Dena Bank and Vijaya Bank, the All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) said on Saturday.

The AIBEA is one of the constituents of the UFBU.

In a statement, the AIBEA said the unions in the banking sector were opposed to the merger of three banks.

Smoking, high BP raises risk of heart attack relapse: Study

 Young men who are chain smokers or suffer from hypertension could be at an increased risk of heart attack recurrence, researchers have warned.

The study found that risk factors such as smoking, high blood pressure, family history of heart disease and chronic kidney disease were more prevalent among the patients who experienced a relapse.

“When treating younger patients with a history of heart attack, clinicians should emphasise better control of high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes,” said Joanne Karen Recacho-Turingan, a cardiology student from The Medical City in Manila, Philippines.

“Other modifiable risk factors to highlight in patient history and address with these patients include smoking habits and obesity,” Recacho-Turingan added.

The findings were presented at the Asia Conference 2018 in Shanghai.

For the study, researchers analysed 133 young patients and found that males (90.1 per cent) with an average age of 40.9 years, experienced a second heart attack compared to females (9.9 per cent) with an average age of 39.6 years.

In addition, in these male patients, chest pain was the most common presenting symptom (81.8 per cent) while 90.9 per cent had unstable vital signs.

Heart attack in young patients can cause disability and even death at the prime of life. There are often serious consequences for these patients, their families and the health system, which can lead to an increased economic burden, according to the study.

“We must make sure to work with these patients on their modifiable risk factors to reduce their risk not just for a second heart attack, but hopefully, even preventing the first,” Recacho-Turingan noted.

Previous studies have defined young heart attack patients as less than 45-years-old while some used a less than 40-year-old cut-off.

Congress leader former MLC Mir Aziz Ahmad no more

Senior Congress leader and former MLC Mir Aziz Ahmad (86) passed away following age-related illness at his Bengaluru residence on Friday morning.

A staunch Congress party worker, Ahmad held the district Congress president post for more than 10 years.

He had also served as chairman of state minorities commission and as president of state wakf board. He got elected as a member of legislative council in 2003.

Ahmad is survived by two sons, a daughter and a brother

Minor Bengal girl gang raped in Odisha

 A minor girl from West Bengal was allegedly drugged and gang raped by five youths in Odisha’s Balasore district, police said on Saturday.

Police said the youths allegedly took her with them after luring her on Friday night. After raping her, they dumped the girl on the roadside near Rasulpur village.

The girl was rescued by locals and has been admitted to a hospital.

After registering a case, police have launched a manhunt to nab the suspects.

As per reports, the girl hails from Ramnagar area in West Bengal, said police.

3 arrested for refusing women entry to Sabarimala

 Sabarimala protesters on Saturday stopped two women from Andhra Pradesh from advancing towards the Lord Ayyappa temple as they were from the hitherto banned age group, prompting Kerala Police to arrest three men.

All three hailed from nearby Ranni and they resisted the two women devotees — of two different groups — to advance any further after they had already walked up to the hill.

One of the devotees was 28-years-old and the other was 42. So far 14 women have had to return without praying at the shrine even after a court order allowed their entry to Sabarimala.

The police, however, said they were not informed by these devotees before their ascent to the hilltop shrine as then they would have provided the required security.

The Pinarayi Vijayan-led Left government in the state has vowed to implement a September 28, Supreme Court verdict that allows all women of all age group to offer prayers at the shrine.

The police posted in the temple town came to know about the two Andhra devotees only after protests broke out.

Both women were then escorted back to the Pamba base camp by the police, and the three men were taken into custody for putting up a strong protest.

Hindu groups and other political parties have been protesting here ever since the apex court in September struck down an earlier practice of banning entry of girls and and women aged 10-50.

On November 13, the top court also refused to stay its September verdict, three days before the temple opened for the ongoing two-month long season.

Both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party along with several Hindu groups are up in arms against the verdict.

Allahabad double murder

 Two elderly women were found dead in their apartment in Uttar Pradesh’s Allahabad city on Saturday, police said.

They were identified as sisters — Kusum, 73, and Rajrani, 75 — who had been living in the first-floor apartment along with their niece, Sadhna, on the ground floor.

It was the niece who alerted the police upon her discovery of the bodies after her call went unanswered by the aunts.

When she went up to check on them, she found the house ransacked, some items missing and the two lying dead on the bed. Both were strangulated, an official told IANS.

The double murder has caused panic in the Gujarati locality here.

Donbass Bags The “Golden Peacock” Award at IFFI Goa 2018 

The International Film Festival of India (IFFI Goa 2018) held a glittering prize distribution ceremony on 28th Nov, 2018 in a magnificent stadium Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, Goa University, Teleigao, Goa.

The 1st ever prize went to a Ukranian movie named Donbass’ which was directed by Sergei Loznitsa, who bagged the coveted “Golden Peacock” award at the 49thInternational Film Festival of India (IFFI Goa 2018), which concluded in Goa on 8th Nov, 2018. The “Golden Peacock” award also carried a cash prize of Rs 4 million (Rs 40 lakhs Indian rupees) to be shared equally between the Producer & the Director, along with a special Trophy & the citation.

Incidentally speaking Donbass tells the story of a hybrid war taking place in a region of Eastern Ukraine, involving an open armed conflict alongside killings & robberies perpetrated on a mass scale by separatist gangs. In Donbass, war is called peace & propaganda is uttered as truth. A journey through Donbass unfolds as a series of curious adventures. This is not just a tale of 1 region or a political system; it is about a world lost in post-truth & fake identities.

Donbass is the official submission of Ukraine for the “Best Foreign Language Film” category at the 91st Academy Awards to be held in the upcoming year 2019. It was selected as the opening film in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. At Cannes, Sergei Loznitsa won the “Un Certain Regard” award as “Best Director”.

The award winners were Lijo Jose Pellissery who was conferred with a “Best Director” award for his Malayalam movie Ee.Ma.Yau. The film was a stunning satire on death & how it affects the human lives. Set in Chellanam, a coastal village in Kerala, the film shows the plight of a son who tries to arrange a worthy funeral for his father; he is however met with unpredictable obstacles & reactions from different quarters. Lijo Jose Pellissery bagged the Silver Peacock Award & a cash prize of Rs 1.5 million (Rs 15 lakhs Indian rupees). He had also bagged the Best Director award at the 48th Kerala State Film Awards for Ee.Ma.Yau.

While the “Best Actor” (Male) award went to Chemban Vinod for his portrayal of a role in the same Malyalam movie Ee.Ma.Yau of “Eeshi”, a son who tries to arrange a worthy funeral for his father but is met with unpredictable obstacles & reactions from different quarters.

And the “Best Actor” (Female) award went to Anastasiia Pustovit  for her portrayal of a “Larysa”, a teenage girl in the Ukrainian movie named When The Trees Fall.

Both the “Best Actor” (Male) Chemban Vinod & the “Best Actor” (Female) Anastasiia Pustovit were honored with the “Silver Peacock” Trophy & a cash prize of Rs 1 million (Rs 10 lakhs Indian rupees) each.

Besides Milko Lazarov walked away with the “Special Jury” award for his movie named Aga; the film focuses on the story of Sedna & Nanook, an elderly couple from Yakutia & the particular challenges they face in the midst of a frigid landscape. The “Special Jury” award carried a cash prize of Rs 1.5 million (Rs 15 lakhs Indian rupees), a “Silver Peacock” award & a citation.

That apart Alberto Monteras II received the “Centenary Award for “Best Debut Feature Film” of a Director for his Filipino Movie Respeto.

And the movie Walking With The Wind, directed by Praveen Morchhale, won The ICFT–UNESCO Gandhi Medal instituted by the International Council for Film, Television & Audiovisual Communication, Paris & UNESCO. The criteria for the Gandhi Medal reflect UNESCO’s fundamental mandate of building peace in the mind of men & women, particularly human rights, intercultural dialogue, promotion & safeguard of diversity of cultural expressions.

Walking With The Wind’ tells the story of a 10 year old boy in the Himalayan Terrain, who mistakenly breaks his friend’s school chair. His daily 7 km long journey to school in the mountainous terrain on a donkey, turns mammoth & challenging when he decides to bring the chair to his village.

Los Silencios, the Portuguese, Spanish movie directed by Beatriz Seigner got the “Special Mention” under ICFT-UNESCO Gandhi medal category.

And over & above all Salim Khan, the celebrated actor, story-screenplay-dialogue writer of Hindi films was honored with the IFFI 2018 “Special Award” for his Lifetime Contribution to Cinema. The prestigious award consisting of a cash prize of Rs 1 million (Rs 10 lakhs Indian rupees), a Certificate & a Shawl & also a Scroll was conferred upon the master film writer for his “Outstanding Contribution To Cinema”.

Salim Khan revolutionized Indian cinema in the 1970’s, transforming & reinventing the Bollywood formula, pioneering the Bollywood blockbuster format & pioneering genres such as the masala film & the Dacoit in Western style.
