EC and IT part of Modi tie-up,’ Kanimozhi accuses after IT raids

April 17, 2019 by Nasheman

Thoothukudi, Apr 17 : DMK candidate for Thoothukudi Lok Sabha constituency Kanimozhi on Tuesday night accused that the “Election Commission and Income Tax (IT) were part of Modi tie-up”.

Talking to newsmen soon after the completion of Income Tax raids in her house here, she said, “they are conducting searches because I am in the opposition.
The IT officials came to my house and sought permission for conducting searches. When I asked them whom did they want to inquire, they replied “candidate.” Further when I asked whether they possess necessary orders to conduct the searches, they have no answer. According to my knowledge, this is illegal.”

“Despite that I extended full cooperation to the officials. I was issued summons at 0930 pm and asked to report a statement at the spot. after two hours of search, the IT officials admitted that nothing was found in the house. The IT team returned empty handed,” she claimed.
Kanimozhi, who is DMK’s women wing president said the IT raid is ”anti-democratic” and the DMK will not be cowed down by these threats and intimidation, adding,” We will emerge victorious. The ruling party is scared of our victory, hence they were carrying out raids to tarnish our image.”
“Crores of rupees were stashed in the house of BJP candidate Tamilisai Soundararajan. Whether the IT will conduct searches in Tamilisai’s house,” she added.
Answering a query, she said, “They might have come with a desire to rescind the election in Thoothukudi Lok Sabha constituency, like the Vellore constituency, but their wish became futile.”

Notre Dame tragedy shows iconic monuments require better response plans – US Non-Profit

April 17, 2019 by Nasheman

Washington, Apr 17 : All important world landmarks must have better early detection and response plans in place after the devastating fire at the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, president of the Alliance for the Restoration of Cultural Heritage (ARCH International) Cheryl Benard told Sputnik on Tuesday.

“The important thing for all iconic monuments is to put in place a much faster and better early detection and response plan,” Benard said. “Obviously things went badly wrong here or the fire would not have spread so quickly … Don’t take your historic treasures for granted, and learn to love and respect those of other people too. This is really a common thing that we all share as human beings, the appreciation for beautiful things and the connection to our history.”

A massive fire broke out at Notre Dame on Monday evening, causing the collapse of the cathedral’s spire and two-thirds of its roof. The blaze was fully extinguished only on Tuesday morning. French President Emmanuel Macron has described the incident as a “terrible tragedy” and promised to rebuild the 850-year-old cathedral.

“The images of local citizens and tourists watching the unfolding drama and spontaneously praying and singing together, showed once again the depth of feeling that people have towards their special structures and monuments,” Benard stressed. “We work with people in less known places, who feel exactly the same way such as in Iraq (Nineveh Province), where we are helping the locals rescue the shrine of a biblical prophet, that is located in the middle of their town, Alqosh, or townspeople in Greece who are protecting ‘their’ bronze age underwater city.”

The cause of the Paris blaze remains unclear but may have been linked to renovation work. Paris Prosecutor Remy Heitz told reporters on Tuesday that nothing has been uncovered that speaks of a premeditated action.
European Parliament President Antonio Tajani suggested earlier on Tuesday that the members of the EU legislature collect funds for the restoration of the Notre Dame cathedral.

In addition, the French heritage foundation and the US-based French Heritage Society began fund-raising campaigns soon after the fire to help rebuild the landmark cathedral. French billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault has, in turn, pledged in a statement to donate together with his father as much as 100 million euros (over $113 million) for the reconstruction of Notre Dame.

“Hundreds of millions of dollars have already been pledged for the restoration. While this was a tragic event, the best experts and all necessary resources will definitely be available,” Benard said.

Macron said in an address to the nation on Tuesday that the Notre Dame cathedral would hopefully be rebuilt within five years.

Macron praised firefighters and said he was convinced that the French people could mobilize in the face of this tragedy. Pledges of donations have been pouring in since Tuesday morning. Russian President Vladimir Putin said his country’s experts were ready to help with renovation.

The fire took some of the invaluable treasures preserved at the cathedral. The extent of the damage is still being assessed. Sneska Quaedvlieg-Mihailovic, the head of Europa Nostra, a leading pan-European federation for cultural heritage, told Sputnik the tragedy should raise awareness of the need to invest in historical sites.

There won’t be any talks with the terrorists: Amit Shah

April 17, 2019 by Nasheman

Coming down heavily on Congress president Rahul Gandhi for seeking evidence on India’s airstrike at Balakot, BJP national president Amit Shah on Tuesday said the country will give a fitting reply to the terrorists and their supporters if they dare to attack India again.

“When the entire nation was backing Balakot airstrike, Rahul Gandhi was seeking evidence of military action from the government. When the UPA government ruled the nation for 10 years, terrorists were entering India and carrying out attacks. But no action was taken. When 40 jawans were martyred at Pulwama, we retaliated with airstrikes destroying the terrorist camps.

If they fire a bullet, we will fire a missile. BJP has zero tolerance for terrorists. Rahul Gandhi and his friend Sam Pitroda want talks with the terrorists. There will not be any talks but only action if they attack,” he said at the election rally in Athani near Aluva.

He said Kashmir will remain part of India until life exists in each and every BJP worker. Taking a jibe at the Congress president, he said when Rahul Gandhi demands poverty eradication, he should remember that his family ruled India and could not do anything. He took on the CPM government on Sabarimala issue and said BJP will be with Ayyappa devotees like a strong wall.

“I warn the Communist government against its action in Sabarimala and hurting sentiments of the
devotees. More than 2000 devotees are still in jail and 32,000 were arrested by the government.
In our Sankalp Patra we have promised constitutional protection to Sabarimala devotees. BJP will stand with Sabarimala devotees,” he said.

Amit Shah lashes out at LDF Govt for its lethargy

He also lashed at the LDF government claiming that due to the lethargy of the state government several projects allotted by the Central government could not be implemented in time. “The state government could not complete the land acquisition for major projects like AIIMS, IIT and Kanjikode coach manufacturing facility. For several projects, the state government has not issued a licence. The CPM and the Congress are blocking the development of Kerala,” he said.He also slammed the human rights activists and said that no voice was raised against increasing mob lynching incidents in Kerala.

“The data reveals that in a year 225 mob lynching incident took place in Kerala. Where are those champions of human rights? Why are they maintaining silence,” he added. Earlier at Thrissur, slamming Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for the political violence in the state, BJP national president Amit Shah on Tuesday said most political killings took place in Pinarayi’s own district.

“BJP and RSS lost 120 of their workers in Kerala to Communist violence. After Pinarayi became Chief Minister, over 40 RSS activists were killed. Of the political murders, most happened in his own district. Why is this happening? Who is protecting them?” Shah said at the public rally here as part of the election campaign for NDA’s Thrissur candidate Suresh Gopi.

He also used the report, filed by the High Court-appointed amicus curiae that investigated the reasons and impact of last year’s devastating mid-August floods, to slam the Pinarayi government.
“When the Narendra Modi-led Union government took up an array of developmental activities, the Kerala government performed poorly. This is evident in the amicus curiae report, which clearly points out that mismanagement of dams caused the floods that left hundreds dead. The report also mentions the state government did not use the Centre’s assistance efficiently during the disaster,” Shah said.

NDA’s efforts for Kerala

Shah also listed, along with their outlay, the various developmental activities the NDA government took up for Kerala. They included the 64,000 crore for National Highway development, Rs 25,000 crore for Vizhinjam, Rs 16,600 crore via Sagar Mala project and others.

Sabarimala invoked
On the Election Commission notice issued to Gopi for using the word ‘Ayyan’ in his campaign speech, Shah said BJP will stand shoulder to shoulder with the devotees in their fight to protect the traditions of Sabarimala. “Several court verdicts remain unimplemented in this country. Then why is the Pinarayi government keen on implementing only the Sabarimala verdict? Will he do the same for other Supreme Court judgments, too?” he wondered.

Suresh Gopi speaks
In a jibe at the Agriculture Minister and Thrissur MLA V S Sunilkumar, Gopi presented statistics to compare the agriculture scenario of Kerala with the BJP-ruled states. “In states where BJP-backed governments rule, the rate of agricultural land is being increased by utilising barren lands for farming. However, in Kerala, the trend that they claim is happening is far lesser,” he said. Gopi said the Communist government which keeps on killing its political opponents will get its reply in the elections. “If a fair CBI inquiry is done on the political murders in the state, some parties will not have candidates left to field in the elections,” he said.

IUML files complaint against Shah
Kochi: The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), on Tuesday,  filed a complaint to the Election Commission against BJP president Amit Shah for his speech in which he referred to Wayanad and other areas of Kerala as Pakistani territory. The IUML requested the EC to initiate appropriate punitive measures including disabling all his social media accounts for making such baseless, malicious, irresponsible communal statements.

No Relief For TikTok, Supreme Court Refuses To Stay Ban On TikTok Downloads

[nasheman news] On Monday (April 15), the Supreme Court of India has refused to stay the order of Madras High Court to ban the Chinese video sharing platform TikTok.

Last week (April 8), the Supreme Court of India had rejected an urgent hearing plea by Chinese media giant ByteDance (India) against ban imposed on its TikTok app by Madras High Court.

Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Bytedance (India) Technology Pvt. Ltd, owner of Tik Tok, argued for a stay against the ban, contending that it was causing the company irreparable damage.

However, the Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi along with justices Deepak Gupta and Sanjeev Khanna ordered the case be heard after the Madras High Court made its observations tomorrow (April 16) with both parties present before it.

The Madurai bench ordered a ban on TikTok as it noted that the app exposes children to pornography, and makes them vulnerable to sexual predators online.

Also, there are reports about third party videos being uploaded on to the app without consent, which is a violation of the right to privacy. The court had asked the government to ban the downloading of the app and also asked the government to answer if it will be enacting a statute to protect children against cybercrime, similar to the one enacted in the US (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act).

The court had observed that there was inappropriate content, including pornography, on the platform that was easily accessible to children.

The Supreme Court will now be hearing the case on April 22. The ban comes in the light of rapid and far reaching growth of the Chinese social media apps in India.

In an email statement, TikTok spokesperson told Inc42, “At TikTok, we have faith in the Indian Judicial system and the stipulations afforded to social media platforms by the Information Technology (Intermediaries Guidelines) Rules, 2011. We are committed to continuously enhancing our existing measures and introducing additional technical and moderation processes as part of our ongoing commitment to our users in India.”

EC conducts surprise check on Yeddyurappa’s luggage at helipad

April 16, 2019 by Nasheman

A flying squad of the poll panel checked the luggage of the state BJP president at a helipad in Shivamogga district.

Bengaluru (Karnataka): With election campaign peaking in Karnataka ahead of the second phase of Lok Sabha elections on Thursday, the Election Commission on Tuesday carried out a surprise check on former state chief minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader BS Yeddyurappa.

A flying squad of the poll panel checked the luggage of the state BJP president at a helipad in Shivamogga district.

Voting will be held in Karnataka in two phases – during second (April 18) and third (April 23) phases of polling in the Lok Sabha Elections 2019.

The development came as cracks appeared in the Karnataka BJP with an aide of senior party leader and former Deputy CM KS Eshwarappa claiming that he has incriminating documents against the former chief minister.

On Monday, the Congress party on Monday demanded that an investigation by Lokpal be ordered against Yeddyurappa in connection with a ‘payoffs diary’.

At a press conference, senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal said the former Karnataka CM should jailed if Prime Minister Narendra Modi fails to answer whether the contents of the diary were correct.

Sibal said the Income Tax Department must act against Yeddyurappa in connection with the ‘diary’, which has been in its possession since 2012.

“The I-T and ED officials should question the ministers whose names are written in the diaries and the money trail of this black money should be found out,” Sibal said.

According to Sibal, going by the contents of the diary, the entire top BJP leadership allegedly accepted bribes to the tune of over Rs 1,800 crore.

“We had demanded a probe and since the Lokpal has been constituted, this should be the first probe by it,” Sibal said at the press conference.

“We want that the prime minister should publicly tell if this is correct or not… The prime minister should answer. If the prime minister says Yeddyurappa is speaking a lie, then why should he not be arrested. If this (contents of diary) is true then it is a very serious issue and why should Yeddyurappa not be arrested. There should be a thorough probe,” he said.
