AAP files police complaint against V K Singh over dog remark

October 23, 2015 by Nasheman

ashutosh

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party today filed a police complaint against Union minister V K Singh over his controversial “dog” remark on the Dalit killing in Faridabad and demanded that an FIR be registered against him under the SC/ST Act.

Party legislators Saurabh Bhardwaj, Vishesh Ravi, Rakhi Birla, Hajarilal Chauhan and spokesperson Ashutosh met police officials at Central Delhi’s Prasad Nagar police station in this regard. “The police told us that they will first inquire into the complaint,” Bhardwaj said.

Ashutosh alleged that Singh’s remarks amounted to a violation of the SC/ST Act and said that the police “assured” the delegation of conducting an investigation into the matter that has snowballed into a major political row.

“The police told us that they need to take permission from the higher-ups as filing any case under the SC/ST Act requires approval from a DCP-rank officer,” Ashutosh said, adding that Singh’s status as a minister should not “affect it”.

He also rubbished the minister’s clarification as an after-thought in view of the Bihar polls. Singh had insisted a controversy has been created out of “unconnected sentences”.

“BJP and RSS are inherently anti-Dalit and anti-minorities and that’s why such statements are being issued,” Ashutosh said.

Derecognise Shiv Sena, book its leaders, demands AAP

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) demanded that the Shiv Sena be derecognised in the backdrop of the latter’s recent activities, including Monday’s protests at BCCI office in Mumbai, saying in its nearly 50 years of existence the regional party has only contributed to “politics of hate and goondaism”.

“It’s been nearly 50 years of Shiv Sena’s existence and other than politics of hate and goondaism it has not made one credible contribution to the nation,” AAP spokesperson Preeti Sharma Menon said.

Slamming the Sena, Menon said though the party has not ruled the state on its own even once, it claimed to be the voice of Maharashtra.

“Surviving on coalitions and politics of convenience, it has not ruled Maharashtra on its own even once, and yet poses as the voice of Maharashtra. It took more than two decades of existence for Shiv Sena to win one Lok Sabha seat and its best Assembly performance was 73/288 in 1995, after nearly 30 years of existence,” she pointed out.

“So what exactly is the Shiv Sena? It is just a front for goondas who earn their living by threatening harmless people like singers, writers and holding the financial capital to ransom with its threats of bandhs and riots,” she said in a statement.

In the last few weeks, the Shiv Sena has threatened and cancelled Pakistani singer Ghulam Ali’s concert and attacked the organiser of a launch event of a book, written by a former Pakistani minister. Today they have attacked the BCCI offices which has led to cancellation of the India- Pakistan cricket meet, Menon said.

“This is completely unacceptable. Civil society must come together and demand a ban on Shiv Sena, as they neither understand, nor participate in upholding our Constitution or our democracy. Instead they are always ready to precipitate tensions with neighbouring countries,” she said.

“The AAP demands that the Election Commission should take note of Shiv Sena’s illegal and dangerous activities and de-recognise them. The state government should book Sena leaders for inciting violence and destroying the law and order of the state,” she demanded.

“What is worse is that the BJP and Shiv Sena are together supposed to be governing Maharashtra. Instead they have spent the last year fighting each other the BJP banned meat and the Shiv Sena protested and sold meat. The Shiv Sena threatened the book launch and BJP protected and conducted it,” Menon said in a statement.

“The only thing they come together on is politics of hate. On October 17, 2015, a Muslim college student was picked up for no apparent reason, and thrashed all night by policemen in Bandra Police station, he was told to go to Pakistan,” she alleged.

“This is a huge blot on the nation. How can we trust a government who cannot control its own police force? Or is this what the government is encouraging the police to do?” she asked.

Maharashtra is reeling under drought, farmers are committing suicide, rampant corruption has forced a builder and a police inspector to commit suicide. The state is fast slipping into anarchy, she said.

It has been a dismal 12 months for Maharashtra as the BJP-Sena government has not delivered on a single poll promise but has wreaked anarchy in the state, she further alleged.

“The AAP feels that the government has lost its moral right to rule Maharashtra,” Menon said.

AAP initiates ‘Bribe-Free Karnataka,’ launches helpline to report complaints of bribe

October 12, 2015 by Nasheman

aap

Bengaluru: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) unit of the state has launched a helpline owing to its ‘Bribe-Free Karnataka’ programme that will begin from October 13.

Freedom Fighter HS Doreswamy who launched the helpline urged the people to call the given number and get their work done without paying any bribe.

The helpline number launched is 9342522223 and people could call on the number for reporting instances of corruption.

Sources say that the helpline would be active on all working days. People from the state can call the number and report the demand of bribe.

At the same time, the AAP workers will also pay visits to government offices and urge officials not to take bribes; apart from this, if any official did not complete the work, the matter would be taken to the seniors in the department.

The AAP has come up with the initiative after the Lokayukta had become headless.

An AAP leader said that the Lokayukta had not returned for work and had also not assigned any duty to the Upalokayukta.

Kejriwal sacks food minister for ‘corruption’

October 9, 2015 by Nasheman

Asim Ahmed Khan

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday sacked Food Minister Asim Ahmed Khan on charges of demanding a bribe from a builder.

Announcing the sacking at a press conference where he played a recorded tape of a conversation purportedly between Khan and the builder, Kejriwal said the case was being referred to the CBI.

“We won’t tolerate any corruption, even if it is our minister or legislator,” the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader said.

“Till the CBI completes the investigation, he (Khan) will not be a minister,” he said. The food portfolio will go to AAP legislator Imran Hussain, he said.

Dadri lynching: Arvind Kejriwal stopped from visiting village

October 3, 2015 by Nasheman

Dadri

Greater Noida: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today claimed he was stopped from visiting Bishada village in Dadri where a mob killed a man over rumours that he had eaten beef.

The AAP leader questioned why he was stopped from meeting the family when leaders like Asaduddin Owaisi and Mahesh Sharma were allowed.

Kejriwal, who was accompanied by AAP leaders Kumar Vishwas and Sanjay Singh, said he was was stopped outside the village after locals protested against visitors to the village.

“We r stopped by police n admn. Mahesh Sharma n Owaisi not stopped yest. Then y me? I am most peace loving. Want 2 jst meet Ikhlak’s family,” he tweeted.

Yesterday, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi had visited Bishada village to console victim Mohammed Iqlakh’s family and had questioned the Prime Minister’s silence on the “pre-planned murder”.

Owaisi had rubbished claims that Iqlakh’s family was attacked because of rumours that it had eaten beef and alleged he was done to death because of his religious persuasion.

“This attack was not because of meat. The SP government, instead of arresting the murderers, is getting a forensic test done on the meat found at the victim’s home. Their mind, which is full of poison, should be examined first. They are treating the victim as accused,” he had said.

Mahesh Sharma, the local BJP MP, had also visited the bereaved family yesterday. He stated that the killing was an “accident” which should not be given a communal colour and over which no politics should be done as it may prove to be “dangerous”.

There were also reports that a group of women had driven out mediapersons and other visitors from the village.

Contingents of Provincial Armed Constabulary and state police have been deployed across the village where prohibitory orders banning assembly of five or more people continued to be in force.

District Magistrate M P Singh had claimed that the situation was under control and reasoned that the incident should be treated as a “solitary case” and not a communal clash as no other Muslim family was affected.

Somnath Bharti an embarrassment to AAP, should surrender: Kejriwal

September 23, 2015 by Nasheman

Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi: In a stern message to AAP MLA Somnath Bharti, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today said the legislator, who is on the run in a domestic violence case filed by his wife, is becoming an embarrassment to the party and he should surrender and cooperate with the police.

Breaking his silence on the row involving his former ministerial colleague, the AAP chief questioned Bharti’s act of going into hiding and asked why he was running away from the police and scared of going to jail.

“Somnath should surrender. Why is he running away? Why is he so scared of going to jail? Now he is becoming embarrassment for party and his family.

“He should cooperate with police,” Kejriwal said in his tweets referring to Bharti, who was the Law Minister during the 49-day stint of AAP government in 2013.

Yesterday, the Delhi High Court rejected Bharti’s anticipatory bail in a case related to domestic violence filed by his wife Lipika. Police teams have been looking for him.

Last week, a local court rejected his anticipatory bail in the same case. The party’s top brass had then expressed its displeasure over his disappearance and asked him to cooperate with the police.

The party has been taking the stand that the Delhi Police has been targeting it. However, Bharti’s act of going into hiding has not gone well with party leadership.

AAP leader Ashutosh today said while police has been “unnecessarily showing a lot of interest” in the case, Bharti should “surrender and present his side of the story”.

“The High Court has rejected his bail… he should come out in open and present his case before the investigating agency. There is no point in running away from the law.. we have respect for the law, we have respect for the courts and we believe that justice will be done,” he said.

Bharti’s house raided, missing: police

September 22, 2015 by Nasheman

Somnath Bharti

New Delhi: The office and residence of Delhi’s former law minister Somnath Bharti were raided on Tuesday after his anticipatory bail was dismissed, but police said he could not be found.

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), accused of domestic violence by his wife Lipika Mitra.

“A team of Delhi Police officers raided his house in Malviya Nagar and his office but he was found absconding from both places,” Joint Commissioner of Police Deependra Pathak told IANS.

“We need to arrest Bharti to interrogate him in a case of domestic violence and attempt to murder filed by his wife,” he said.

Bharti was named in a FIR filed at Dwarka North police station in west Delhi.

Police said they filed the FIR following a June 10 complaint by Bharti’s wife who said he had abused her since their marriage in 2010. She claimed Bharti used to beat and torture her and once tried to kill her.

Somnath Bharti surrenders before police

September 16, 2015 by Nasheman

Somnath Bharti

New Delhi: Former Delhi Law Minister and Malviya Nagar MLA Somnath Bharti on Wednesday surrendered at a police station to join investigation in a case of alleged domestic abuse filed against him.

Mr. Bharti, who had approached the High Court for anticipatory bail on Tuesday, surrendered just hours after being provided reprieve till September 17.

Following a late night brainstorming session on the issue with party members, Mr. Bharti is understood to have been asked to join the investigation.

Three AAP MLAs — another former Law Minister Jitendra Singh Tomar, Manoj Kumar and Surinder Singh — have faced arrest by the Delhi Police. If taken into custody, Mr. Bharti will be the fourth AAP MLA to be arrested in the last four months.

AAP leader Somnath Bharti booked for domestic violence, may face arrest

September 10, 2015 by Nasheman

Somnath Bharti

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party leader and former Law Minister Somnath Bharti has been booked for domestic violence following a complaint by his wife Lipika Bharti.

After the couple’s stranded relationship became public, Somnath Bharti and Lipika underwent counseling for over three months to sort out their martial feuds.

However, when things didn’t work out between them, Lipika approached the Dwarka North police on Wednesday and filed an FIR against her husband.

Somnath Bharti has been booked for dowry harassment, attempt to murder, subjecting his wife to physical torture and cheating.

Earlier, Lipika Bharti had levied these allegations against her husband in the month of June. As all the means of reconciliation have failed, Lipika now wants an action to be taken against her husband.

The AAP leader may soon be arrested following the FIR lodged by his wife.

Enhanced ex-gratia for 1984 victims from Monday: Arvind Kejriwal

August 15, 2015 by Nasheman

Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Saturday that the enhanced ex-gratia amount of Rs.5 lakh to the kin of the 1984 anti-Sikh riot victims will be distributed from Monday.

Delivering his first Independence Day speech as chief minister, the Aam Aadmi Party leader also praised Home Minister Rajnath Singh for making efforts to secure the enhanced compensation and said he would request the minister to give away the first cheque. “The first cheque will be distributed on Monday,” Kejriwal said.

“I appreciate Rajnath Singh’s efforts behind the enhanced compensation. I will try to have the first cheque given away by Rajnath Singh,” he said. As per official records, 3,325 people were killed in riots that broke out across the country after two Sikh bodyguards shot dead then prime minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, triggering mob attacks on innocent Sikhs. Of them, 2,733 were killed in Delhi, which was the worst hit in the mayhem. Killings also took place in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan among other states.

In 2006, the UPA government announced a Rs.717 crore rehabilitation package for the riot victims. Of this, only Rs.517 crore was disbursed and the remaining Rs.200 crore got bogged down because of disputes over claimants. An additional relief of Rs.5 lakh was announced by Rajnath Singh in October last year.
