Thane: 500 call centre employees detained for duping US citizens

October 6, 2016 by Nasheman

The raid was carried out by over 200 police personnel, mostly from the Crime Branch, late Tuesday night

call-centres

Thane: In a major raid, over 500 employees of some call centres were detained for allegedly threatening the US citizens and siphoning off their money in Mira Road area of Thane, police said on Wednesday.

The raid was carried out by over 200 police personnel, mostly from the Crime Branch, late Tuesday night and continued in the wee hours on Wednesday, they said.

The persons operated from call centres in Mira Road locality, which comes under the jurisdiction of Thane Rural Police, and posed as officials of US Tax Department, which is equivalent to the Income Tax Department in India, police said.

They would call up the US citizens and demand their financial and bank details, failing which they would allegedly threaten them with dire consequences, including legal action.

After obtaining the requisite details from the American citizens, these call centre employees would siphon off money from their accounts, police said, adding daily turnover of such dealings was estimated to be over Rs 1 crore.

Based on complaints received of these activities , police kept a tab on the call centre employees and subsequently raided their premises late Tuesday night.

The process of registering offence in the matter was on, police said. Further details of the racket were awaited.

Parrikar demeaning armed forces, alleges AAP

October 6, 2016 by Nasheman

arvind-kejriwal-manish-sisodia

New Delhi: The BJP-AAP war of words on cross-LOC surgical strikes today intensified as the Arvind Kejriwal-led party accused Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar of “demeaning” the armed forces and threatened to file a police complaint against him.

Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra called Parrikar “Shah Rangeela”, the Mughal Emperor who it is claimed indulged in merrymaking instead of paying attention to his empire, and said while a high alert has been issued across the country, the Defence Minister was busy “celebrating over the corpses of martyred soldiers”.

It also lashed out Parrikar for his remarks comparing the army to Hanuman.

On October 1, at an event in Dehradun, Parrikar had made a reference to the Ramayana in which the monkey god crossed an ocean in a single stride after he was reminded about his extraordinary powers by Jamwant.

“Indian troops were like Hanuman who did not quite know their prowess before the surgical strikes,” Parrikar had said.

Addressing a news conference, senior party leader Sanjay Singh said by giving such a statement, Parrikar was insulting the army which has time and again proved itself and did a remarkable job in the 1948, 1965, 1971 and Kargil war with Pakistan.

The AAP said it will approach the police to file a complaint against Parrikar in the matter.

Its attack came on a day Parrikar questioned the “loyalty” of those who doubted the Army and sought proof of surgical strikes across the LoC.

BJP had earlier accused AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal of seeking proof in the garb of his statement congratulating the PM and army on the surgical strike.

AAP also alleged that BJP was doing politics over surgical strikes and claimed that such a military operation was not carried out for the first time as being “tom-tommed” by the saffron party.

“BJP’s GVL Narsimha Rao said that for the first time the army has been made aware of its capability. By saying this, we are demeaning the military and its sacrifice. Such statements are shameful and both Parrikar and Rao should apologise to the armed forces,” Sanjay Singh said, adding that in the last 15 years, surgical strikes were carried out nine times.

The AAP leader’s criticism came after posters congratulating the Prime Minister came up across Delhi and also in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh.

Mishra asked whether Parrikar has forgotten that army has been honoured with 21 Param Vir Chakra and 63 Ashok Chakra awards.

“You are not aware of army’s strength, which is why the BJP is kneeling before (PDP chief and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister) Mehbooba Mufti.

“Parrikar is not aware of army’s strength which is why you invited the ISI to investigate the Pathankot attack. Give army the free hand and then it will show the enemy its place,” Kapil Mishra said in his blog post.

On Tuesday, Mishra had publicly taken on Mehbooba at an event here asking her if she considered Burhwan Wani and Afzal Guru as terrorists or not, inviting protests from her entourage. Later he left the venue, saying he does not want to share the dais with her.

Taking a jibe at Prime Minister, Mishra said even Narendra Modi has not applauded the army. “They have made a 56 inch stage and the show is on.”

No need to give out video of cross-LoC operation: Parrikar

October 6, 2016 by Nasheman

manohar parrikar

Agra/New Delhi: Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar today questioned the “loyalty” of those who doubted the Army and sought proof of surgical strikes across the LoC even as he made it clear that there is no need to give out any video of the operation.

Describing the cross-LoC operation as “100 per cent perfect surgical strike”, he said the borders of the country are secure under the Narendra Modi government.

However, he warned that one has to remain vigilant against “certain elements” who don’t owe their loyalty to the country completely.

“No one had doubted bravery of our forces ever, but for the first time recently some people are doubting,” he said, maintaining that he would not like to take names.

Highlighting the news report of CNN News18 in which a Pakistani police officer has admitted that surgical strikes did happen, Parrikar said, “There is now no more reason to release video or to give any proof.”

Parrikar, who was speaking at a BJP organised public meeting, said that many ex-servicemen have shown willingness to fight on the border if required.

“Some ex-servicemen wrote to me and said that they are ready to fight on the border if need arises. I salute them,” said the minister, adding, “Our nation carries the heart and courage to carry this task out.”

He also said that the forces and citizens will have to be vigilant against “frustrated” terrorists who will try and attack because of the shame they have been put to as a result of the surgical strikes.

Syria aid convoy was hit by an air strike: UN

October 5, 2016 by Nasheman

Pictures show attack was result of an air raid, UN says, as intense battle for key province sees more children killed.

More than 400 people have been killed in Aleppo less than a month [Abdalrhman Ismail/Reuters]

by Al Jazeera

Analysis of satellite imagery of a deadly attack on an aid convoy in Syria last month showed that it was an air strike, a UN expert said on Wednesday.

At least 20 people were killed in the attack on the UN and Syrian Arab Red Crescent convoy at Urm al-Kubra near the northern city of Aleppo which destroyed 18 of 31 lorries, a warehouse and clinic.

The United States blamed two Russian fighter jets that it said were in the skies above the area at the time of the incident. Moscow denies the charge and says the convoy caught fire.

“With our analysis we determined it was an air strike and I think multiple other sources have said that as well,” Lars Bromley, research adviser at UNOSAT, told a news conference.

“For air strikes, what you are usually looking out for is the size of the crater that is visible and the type of crater,” he said. A giant crater on the ground was caused “almost certainly [by] air dropped munitions” as opposed to artillery or mortars, he said.

The United Nations has so far referred only to an “attack”, which led to a brief suspension of its land convoys in Syria, while the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies initially referred to “air strikes” in a statement.

Battle for Aleppo

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced on Friday that he would establish an internal UN board of inquiry to investigate the attack and urged all parties to fully cooperate.

UNOSAT, which reviews only commercially-available satellite images, has not been asked to share its analysis with the UN inquiry, but is prepared to do so, UNOSAT manager Einar Bjorgo said. “Our images are from time to time used in order to brief Security Council members,” he told the briefing.

The UN’s claim about the Aid convoy attack in Aleppo came as the battle for the key province intensified.

Three children were among at least 19 civilians killed in an air strike on a village held by the Islamic State or Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) group in northern Aleppo province on Wednesday, a monitor said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said it was unclear whether the strike was carried out by the US-led coalition fighting ISIL, or Turkey, which is leading an operation against the group in the area with support from Syrian rebel forces.

The strike hit the village of Thalthana, in northern Aleppo province, the Britain-based monitor said.

COUNTRY OR ART IS THE MOST DEBATABLE ALBEIT HOTTEST TOPIC OF BOLLYWOOD NOWADAYS

October 5, 2016 by Shaheen Raaj

pakistani-artists-in-india

The sinister ploy to pack off Pakistani actors from Bollywood had gathered momentum earlier too but had fizzled out for some reason or the other. But this time around everyone has suddenly woken up and started debating once again over the topic of Country vs Art.

To give an example of filmmaking. Well! Here art & commercial filmmaking go hand in hand. So a filmmaker who claims that his films also have an elemental artistic value but the fact is that he always ends up making an out an out commercial film, now that’s besides the point.

But these sudden conscious awareness of Country vs Art is certainly not without any reason. It has all started off with Raj Thakrey’s MNS protest against Pakistani actors who are working in Bollywood more especially after the Uri attack on the Indian Army by none other than the so called terrorists.

So once again the current hot topic running in Bollywood over Pakistani actors is a hot & happening discussions for everyone these days.

Not only these all of a sudden the Indian Motion Pictures Association (IMPPA) too has recently banned a few Pakistani actors. Some Bollywood Celebs are in favor of this decision while some are not. And Salman Khan is certainly not!!! He has even given media bytes in their favor by stating, “Pakistani actors are definitely not terrorist. They come in our country with proper legal documents including work permits. So why blame the poor guys for the Border attacks & warfare, to the extent of packing them off to their country.”

Salman Khan had even gone to the extent of giving a call to Shri. Raj Thakrey to sort out the matter amicably, but he had got a very unresponsive response from Raj Thackrey in general and his office in particular.

In fact apart from Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan & Karan Johar many more Bollywood Celebs have adopted a very favorable attitude towards the so called Pakistani actors.

And as mentioned earlier such a thing has happened not only now but before also. So it is but natural that many more Celebs will come out in support of Pakistani actors.

To sum it up having a patriotic feeling for our Country is more than fair enough. But for a few terrorist attacks where is the point in hitting out at art (Films) & artistes? So what if these so called artistes belong to a different nation altogether.

SIBM Bengaluru Alumnus Mr. Anand Bhate pens down World Record Award Winning Novel on the Start-up Culture of Bengaluru

October 5, 2016 by Nasheman

World Record Award winning Fiction novel ‘C + Plus Doctor Thepla’ intends to promote and boost the start-up culture of Bengaluru.

anand-bhate

Bengaluru, September 26th, 2016: At a time when the start-up revolution in the country is being spearheaded by students right after their college education, two students who’ve pursued their colleges at Bengaluru have penned down a fiction novel in English that intends to promote and boost the start-up culture of Bengaluru. Authors – Bengaluru based Ms. SaritaRaghuvanshi (alumni of Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, Bengaluru) and Ahmedabad based Mr. AnandBhate (alumni of Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Bengaluru) have penned down their fiction novel in English titled ‘C + Plus Doctor Thepla’.

The story of ‘C + Plus Doctor Thepla’ revolves around Abhishek Patel, an Engineering student at Bengaluru, who wants to become a chef and start-up his ‘Thepla’ restaurant chain globally. Being a chef isn’t a career that his father (a doctor) could accept. His neighbor ‘ManjooMausi’ ensures that he becomes atleast an Engineer, if not a Doctor, otherwise, “Log Kya Kahenge!” Abhishek has to go through a lot of family and societal objections while pursuing his dream of a start-up. The novel takes you through the journey of Abhishek’s school and college life that every Indian student can relate to. This novel, which promises elements of humor, romance, emotions, tragedy and a bit of motivation, has depicted the struggles of an average Indian student in pursuing a start-up right after college and has also cleared the misconceptions regarding the same.

The author, Mr. AnandBhate is the Director of JeevanAnand Builders, a Gujarat-based real estate development company. Armed with an MBA degree from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Bengaluru, he is a passionate writer and also an occasional blogger. His blog was ‘The Official Blog Partner’ of the Gujarati Film ‘Chhello Divas’. With a twinkle in his eye, he shared, “I have stayed in Bengaluru for over seven years and I miss the city. In those seven years, I saw the start-up culture growing and booming. Many of my friends and acquaintances are directly or indirectly related to start-ups. Hence, I was always aware of the issues and problems that a start-up witnesses in its early stage. We wanted to get this out to the country, and suggest effective solutions to it. We spoke to over a hundred Bengaluru based start-ups, to know more about their experiences and journey. Their problems and the way they tackled them have all been effectively portrayed in the novel in a light read format. We believe that the start-up culture environment of Bengaluru is extremely promising, and hence this is an attempt to boost and promote it.”

Anand says that his alma mater SIBM Bengaluru gave him the ‘never-die attitude’, which was the source of his motivation needed to pen down this novel. He further adds, “SIBM Bengaluru made me evolve as an individual. The institute focusses on the holistic development of every student and this was the key reason that I am an author today. The interactions with the students, faculty members, visiting faculty and various guests gave me an exposure that broadened my perspectives.
The management skills learnt in the two years of MBA helped me a lot.”

The Bengaluru based author of this book,Ms. SaritaRaghuvanshi is an MC (Master of Ceremonies) who has anchored in more than 900 National and International large format live and televised events in over 15 countries over the last decade. Sarita says, “Our country is experiencing a rather confused state of mindset nowadays. On one hand we are witnessing the emergence of a start-up culture and on the other hand we have people who are held back from chasing their dreams and creative mindsets because of ManjooMausi’s ‘Log Kya Kahenge?’ attitude. This novel aptly tells you how students in India are treated like ‘puppets’ and intends to stop this constant pressurizing.”

The promotional video of the novel which had a puppet in it was uploaded on YouTube in June 2016 and it received tremendous response and critical appreciation. Subsequently, it went on to create a World Record for being the first of its kind. The hashtag #DontBeAPuppet has been used for this campaign which indeed strengthens the core motive of the novel, i.e. ‘Students in India should NOT be treated as puppets’.The launch of the novel took place on September 20th, 2016 at Ahmedabad by its Mayor, Mr. Gautam Shah in a high profile event.

Release 2,000 cusecs daily to TN Oct 7-18, SC tells Karnataka

October 5, 2016 by Nasheman

cauvery

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered Karnataka to release 2,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu daily from October 7 to 18 as it asked the Cauvery Supervisory Committee to visit the river basin area of two states for an assessment of the ground situation and report back to it by October 17.

The bench of Justice Dipak Misra sand Justice Uday Umesh Lalit directed the release of 2,000 cusecs of water every day for 12 days, after Karnataka told the court that in compliance with the court’s September 30 order, it has started releasing water to Tamil Nadu and by October 6, it would release 3.1 TMC of water.

The court had by its September 30 order had asked Karnataka to release 6,000 cusecs of water every day from October 1 to 6.

The court said that the Supervisory Committee would comprise the Central Water Commission’s Chairman, member, and Chief Engineer, the Chief Secretaries of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu or their nominees, the states’ Chief Engineers or their nominees and a representative each from Kerala and Puducherry.

Noting that Karnataka has already made a statement that it has started to release water in pursuance to the September 30 order, the court earlier on Tuesday asked it to indicate the quantity of water it could release daily basis from October 7 to 18 – the date when the court would be hearing various applications and appeals by both states.

Giving half an hour time to Karnataka’s counsel V.N. Raghupathy, the court adjourned the hearing for this period. On the resumption, state’s Advocate General M.R. Naik told the court that they can release 1,500 cusecs every day. He said that it was on the basis of instructions he has received from the highest level in the government.

While agreeing to send their representative to the supervisory committee, Shekhar Naphade, appearing for Tamil Nadu, told the bench that the better course would be that based on shortfall in rains, the share of all the parties be reduced proportionately.

On couple of occasions, the hearing saw temperatures soaring as Karnataka resisted the bench’s suggestion for release water to Tamil Nadu for 12 days from October 7 as senior counsel Fali Nariman, appearing for the state, urged the bench not to pass an order which the State can’t implement.

He told the court that even on earlier occasions, he had urged the court not to pass orders which Karnataka would find difficult to comply with but the court went ahead which subsequently created all the problems, and he had to face flak.

As he asked on what basis the court had earlier directed Karnataka to release firstly 15,000 cusecs, then 12,000 cusecs and then 6,000 cusecs of water, the bench said” “We went by arithmetic”.

“But arithmetic does not work with ground reality,” Nariman told the court, noting it was “just impossible” for Karnataka to do anything. “It is not just the government of Karnataka. It is about millions of people.”

Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi reiterated that top court had no jurisdiction to direct the constitution of the board, citing material to back his contention.

As the bench said it can still be set up, he said that it was a recommendation by the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal and the court can direct the CMB’s setting-up only if it converts that recommendation into a decision.

He also asked if the board could be constituted at an interim stage when the hearing on the challenge to the tribunal award was still pending.

At this, Naphade told the court that Karnataka wanted to see that the board was not set-up and the central government was “playing into their hands.”

He wondered why court was adopting such a soft treatment of politicians, referring to an apology by former Karnataka Chief Minister S..M. Krishna in a contempt case.

In response, Justice Mishra said: “It is not a question of X or Y personality. There may be some genuine difficulties, which we may not be able to visualise sitting here.”

Ink thrown at Kejriwal, two detained

October 5, 2016 by Nasheman

CBI-Kejriwal

Bikaner: Two ABVP activists threw ink at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for his comments on surgical strikes by the Army on terror launch pads across the LoC, in Transport Nagar of Rajasthan’s Bikaner district.

ABVP activists yesterday raised slogans against the Aam Aadmi Party national convener and threw ink at him, Kote Gate police station Assistant Sub-inspector Birbal said.

Following the ink attack, ABVP activists Dinesh Ojha and Vikram Singh were taken into custody, he said.

Kejriwal was here to visit the house of AAP worker Hiralal Sevta to console him on his wife’s death.

Reacting to the ink attack, Kejriwal wished the attackers “well”. “Hmmm… God bless those who threw ink at me. I wish them well,” he tweeted last night.

Earlier, several activists of a right-wing group yesterday showed black flags to Kejriwal in Nokha town when he was on his way to Bikaner from Jodhpur.

In a rare gesture, Kejriwal had on Monday “saluted” Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the surgical strikes by the Army on terror launch pads across the LoC.

At the same time, he had urged the Centre to counter the smear campaign by Pakistan and international media, but BJP alleged that Kejriwal had in the garb of his statement questioned the Army’s “assertion” on surgical strike and “insulted” the armed forces.

Claiming that Kejriwal “sought proof” on the anti-terror operation, the BJP had yesterday asked him not to belittle the armed forces by getting influenced by Pakistani “propaganda”.
