16 persons including 4 cops injured in Shopian attack

Police on Monday said that 16 persons including 4 cops were injured when militants lobbed a grenade at Batapora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
A police spokesperson said that the grenade exploded inflicting injuries to several civilians and few policemen.
He said that the grenade exploded along the roadside amid the civilian population.
“Around 12 civilians are reportedly injured in this explosion. A young girl has received critical injuries in this explosion while four policemen also sustained injuries in this incident,” he said.
He said the injured have been shifted to nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Police has initiated investigation in the matter, he added.

Two Days Heavy Rain fall Expects in parts of Bengaluru

The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) issued a flood alert for the city during June 3- June 4.

The KSNDMC has warned that low lying areas in the city are vulnerable to flooding.

The alert reads: “According to the forecasted rain, flood vulnerable locations in Rajarajeshwari Nagar zone, East zone, South zone, Mahadevapura zone and Bommanahalli zone are expected to get severe inundation.”

According to the reports, the average annual rainfall in Bengaluru between June and September is 98cm, early showers have already accounted for 35 cm.

The disaster centre has also warned that there might be moderate inundation in the West and Dasanapura zones.

HDK stops expenditures causing loss to state revenue

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy started numerous means to stop the expenditures causing loss to the exchequer and enhance the money related status in the state.

The CM put a brake on the buy of new cars, unnecessary expenses in the administration and so on. He requested the authorities to audit the proposals for new car purchase for government departments, offices, and institutions before taking a decision. He likewise proposed diminishing the pointless costs at the organization level.

The Chief Minister said there ought not to be any pointless renovations of government offices and official residence. He likewise informed that he would eliminate going in special flights as much as possible.

IMD issues warning of thunderstorm & lightning at various places today

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning of thunderstorm, gusty winds and lightning at various places in the country today (Monday, June 04). Heat wave conditions are very likely to occur at one or two pockets over West Rajasthan.

Thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds and lightning are very likely at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Tamilnadu, Telangana, Rayalaseema and Interior Karnataka and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Heavy rain is also expected at isolated places over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.

Kamal Hasan meets HDK,pleads for Cauvery water to standing Kurvai Paddy crops

Kamal Hasan, multilingual film star turned politician today met HD Kumaraswamy,JDS-Congress alliance government Chief Minister and requested the latter to release Cauvery river water to save the standing Kurvai paddy crops in Tamil Nadu.
The filmmaker after his meeting with the chief minister claimed in a joint media interaction along with the CM: We both of us from the adjoining states need to live like brothers.I have come here not as any representative of the state government but as a representative of the people…
…Not only that I have come here to request the chief minister to release Cauvery water in order to save the standing paddy crops in Tamil Nadu. Cauvery is much important than films,he remarked.
Cauvery has been there much before we were born yet we have continued to fight over the same till date. Farmers of both the states should resolve this issue and approaching court should have been the last resort,he told.
The matter is already before the court but we can still give a try to resolve the issue amicably outside the purview of the court, told Kamal Hasan.
HD Kumaraswamy informed: Farmers of both the states should co-exist and we should find alternatives to find an amicable solution.

Sushma to participate in BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting today

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will participate in the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Johannesburg (South Africa) on Monday (June 04).

The meeting is expected to lay the foundation for next month’s annual summit of the grouping which will also be held in Johannesburg.

The BRICS comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

She will also chair a meeting of Foreign Ministers of IBSA (India, Brazil, South Africa), another bloc working to deepen coordination among the three countries on major global issues.

The External Affairs Minister will also attend a series of events marking the 125th anniversary of the historic incident where a young Mahatma Gandhi was thrown out of a train compartment in Pietermaritzburg railway station in 1893.

Conference of Governors & Lt. Governors to be held from today

Kovind to preside over the two-day Conference at Rashtrapati Bhavan

The President Ram Nath Kovind will preside over a two-day Conference of Governors and Lt. Governors on Monday and Tuesday (June 4 and 5) at Rashtrapati Bhavan.


This will be the 49th such Conference to be held in Rashtrapati Bhavan and the second Conference to be presided over by President Kovind.

The first Conference of Governors was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in 1949. It was presided over by C. Rajagopalachari, then the Governor General of India.
The two-day Conference will discuss important thematic issues in various sessions. On June 4, the Conference will commence with the inaugural address by the President. The second session will see briefings and presentations on flagship programmes of the Government of India and on internal security.

During this session, presentations will be made by the Vice Chairman and the CEO of NITI Aayog as well as by the National Security Advisor. The Prime Minister will also address the gathering.

The third session will cover the theme of higher education in state universities and skill development for employability. The Governor of Gujarat will be the convenor of this session. During this session presentations will be made by the Secretary, Higher Education and the Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion.

In the fourth session, Governors/Lt. Governors will discuss steps taken on the report ‘Rajyapal – Vikas Ke Rajdoot: Catalytic Role of Governors as Agents for Change in Society’. This report was submitted by the Committee of Governors to the President on January 9, 2018. The Committee was constituted during the 48th Conference of Governors in October 2017. The Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will convene this session.

On June 5, the fifth session of the Conference of Governors will discuss ideas on how to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. During this session, presentations will be made on Gram Swaraj Abhiyan and Swachhata Internship and Governors/Lt. Governors will make suggestions. The Governor of Uttar Pradesh shall be the convenor of this session.

In the sixth and concluding session, brief presentations on the deliberations in the previous thematic sessions will be made by the convenor Governors. The President, the Vice President, the Prime Minister, the Home Minister and the External Affairs Minister will address the concluding session.

A special session on Union Territories will be held on June 5, at which Lt. Governors/Administrators of Union Territories will discuss status of implementation of various flagship programmes. The Cabinet Secretary, Home Secretary and other senior officials will be part of the meeting.

Governors and Lt. Governors of all States and Union Territories will attend the Conference. The Vice President; Prime Minister; Union Ministers of Home Affairs; External Affairs; Human Resource Development; Skill Development and Entrepreneurship; Minster of State (I/C) of Ministry of Culture and Vice Chairman and CEO of NITI Aayog and other senior officials from various Ministries will also participate.

Five killed in rain-related incidents in Nashik division

Five people were killed in two separate rain-related incidents as pre-monsoon showers accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning hit the Nashik division over the weekend, the police said today.

The Nashik division in Maharashtra comprises five districts – Dhule, Jalgaon, Nandurbar, Ahmednagar and Nashik. A 32-year-old woman and her three minor daughters were killed when a tree fell on them at Varkhedi village in the neighbouring Dhule district yesterday, a police official said.

The deceased were identified as Anita Daduram Pavra and her daughters Vashila (3), Pinky (2) andRoshani (1), he said. In another incident, a 27-year-old man died when lightning struck him at Ambewadi in Igatpuri taluka of Nashik district last evening.

The deceased, Dashrath Dhondu Dhavale, a native of Nashik district, worked with the Mumbai fire brigade department, an official at the Igatpuri police station said. Heavy pre-monsoon rains lashed the Sinnar, Wavi, Yeola and Satana tehsils of Nashik district on Saturday and Sunday, causing damage to several houses and damaging crops and onion storage sheds, the police said.

In the last 24 hours, Nashik’s Igatpuri taluka received 76 mm rain, Baglan-25 mm, Chandwad-24 mm, Trimbakeshwar-15 mm, Nandgaon-10 mm, and Malegaon, Sinnar and Nashik got five mm each, according to figures provided by the district collector’s office.

Deb Medhekar Awaits Response From Afghan Embassy

Deb Medhekar, writer & director of Bioscopewala, hopes that he gets to screen his film in schools & colleges in Afghanistan as the plot of his film, based on Rabindranath Tagore’s classic tale, Kabuliwala where the film’s lead character is from Kabul & Bollywood cinemas are loved there. But due to tense political climates have lead to closure of several theatres but Hindi ventures are only infrequently aired in a few theatres. The short’s adaptation, featuring Danny Denzongpa & Geetanjali Thapa, revolves around a dry fruit seller from Kabul, who comes to India to sell his wares. He befriends a young girl, who reminds him of his daughter living in Kabul. The director has written a letter to Dr. Shaida Abdali, Afghanistan ambassador to India, requesting for screening in the country. Though he is uncertain of getting permission for a theatrical release, he is hopeful his film will screen in schools & colleges or other public platforms.
