‘Kannadigas have rejected ‘Kaala’ in Karnataka : Kumaraswamy says,

Reacting to the ban on Superstar Rajinikanth’s Kaala movie, CM HD Kumaraswamy said that the Kannadigas have rejected the actor’s film. He added he will hold a meeting and take a decision on the same.

The film star has often faced the wrath of pro-Kannada organizations for his comments on Cauvery issue. The actor has a great fan following in Karnataka, especially Bengaluru and Kolar where there is a sizable Tamil population. On Tuesday, the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) decided not to allow screening of his movie ‘Kaala’, due for release on June 7. The chamber also said that Rajinikanth’s statement on Cauvery has reportedly hurt the sentiments of Kannadigas. Directed by Pa Ranjith, ‘Kaala’ is one of the biggest releases in Tamil and is scheduled to release worldwide on June 7. Produced by Wunderbar Films, the film also stars Huma Qureshi, Nana Patekar, Eswari Rao, Samuthirakani and Anjali Patil in important roles.

BJP’s Bad Run at Bypolls Here’s What BJP President Amit Shah Says,

The BJP’s bad streak with bypolls continued on Thursday as it won only one Lok Sabha seat and one Assembly seat out of a total of 15 bypolls.

Of the 27 Lok Sabha bypolls that have been held across the country since the BJP’s 2014 win, BJP has won just five. But 10 days before the bypoll results, BJP President Amit Shah had spoken about the party’s bypoll jinx.

Speaking to reporters at the BJP headquarters on May 21, in the aftermath of the Karnataka government formation, Shah had taken a dig at the Congress.

“What is Congress celebrating? Are they celebrating their seats going from 122 to 78? Or their Ministers losing? Congress is now a PPP party – Punjab, Puducherry and Parivar (Family). Congress campaign was based on lies and divisive tactics. They even used muscle and money power,” he said.

Speaking about the BJP’s bypoll downslide, Shah said, “Congress has found a new way of seeing defeat in victory. When we lost bypolls recently, Congress started talking about our losses even though they didn’t win. We snatched 14 states from you. Is that bigger or losing 9 bypolls? Congress and JDS went against the mandate. This is an impure alliance.”

Prices For Petrol and Diesel have fallen 6 paise and 5 paise.

Prices for petrol and diesel have fallen marginally for the third consecutive day. On Friday, petrol prices were cut by 6 paise and diesel prices by 5 paise per litre. In Delhi, petrol now costs Rs 78.29 per litre, while diesel price has been revised to Rs 69.20 a litre.

Besides Delhi, the revised Petrol prices in other metro cities are – Rs 80.92 in Kolkata, Rs 86.10 in Mumbai and Rs 81.28 in Chennai. Meanwhile, the revised diesel price was Rs 71.75 in Kolkata, Rs 73.67 in Mumbai and 73.06 in Chennai.

The fuel prices were marginally reduced for the third day after it remained high for 16 consecutive days. The oil companies had on Thursday cut the prices further by 7 paise per litre for petrol and 5 paise per litre for diesel. It came after a day of confusion when it was announced that fuel prices were slashed by 60 paise per litre but was later corrected to 1 paise.

While in morning there was an announcement about petrol prices going down by 60 paise in Delhi and 59 paise in Mumbai, and diesel prices going down by 56 paise in Delhi and 59 paise in Mumbai, it was later clarified by the Indian Oil Corporation that the reduction was of merely 1 paisa per litre.

“There was a technical glitch in posting the selling prices of petrol and diesel. The selling prices of petrol and diesel with effect from May 30, 2018 have been rectified. Today, there is a minor reduction in fuel prices,” the IOC clarified shortly before noon.

Oil companies use 15-day rolling average of Singapore gasoline prices and Arab Gulf diesel prices to arrive at daily rates and so the fall in international oil rates seen in the last few days would be factored in for the revisions in the coming days.

The reduction comes after 16 consecutive price increases since May 14 when fuel retailers ended a 19-day pre-Karnataka poll hiatus to pass on a spike in global oil rates. In all, petrol price was increased by Rs 3.8 per litre and diesel by Rs 3.38 in that fortnight.

Prices vary from state to state depending on local sales tax or VAT. Delhi has the cheapest price among all metros and most state capitals.

Zaigham’s 1st ever Dozakh: In Search Of Heaven was based on his own critically acclaimed novel with the same name. With the release of “Dozakh” in March 2015, Zaigham’s work got highly acclaimed by critics and won several awards & nominations in more than a few film festivals throughout the world.

Suspension of Musharraf’s national identity card, passport ordered

Pakistan’s Interior Ministry has asked for the suspension of former President Pervez Musharraf’s computerized national identity card (CNIC) and passport, a media report said on Friday.

In compliance with the order of a special court, the ministry on Thursday asked the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) and the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports to carry out the suspensions, the Dawn report said.

After the suspension of his CNIC and passport, Musharraf’s bank accounts would be frozen and his international traveling restricted.

A special court hearing a high treason case against Musharraf had on March 8 directed the ministry to suspend his passport and CNIC.

The court had also ordered the ministry and other departments, divisions and agencies to take steps for the arrest of Musharraf and attachment of his properties abroad.

The former military ruler is facing the treason trial for subverting the Constitution by declaring a state of emergency in November 2007, Dawn News reported.

Ending his self-imposed exile, the former military ruler returned to the country in March 2013 and a ban was imposed on his travel abroad by courts the following month.

After three years, in March 2016, he was able to leave for Dubai seeking medical treatment and has since not returned.

First Additional District and Sessions Court in Kalaburagi has granted Galappa Doddamani, a resident of Saganur town in Afzalpur taluk, life detainment and forced on him a fine of ₹ 28,000 for killing his better half by setting her ablaze in March 2017.

ED imposes penalty of Rs 121 cr on BCCI, others

The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday said it has slapped a penalty of Rs 121 crore on BCCI, its former Chairman N. Srinivasan, former Indian Premier League (IPL) Commissioner Lalit Modi and others for alleged violation of the FEMA during second edition of the cash-rich Twenty-20 cricket tournament in South Africa.

An official said that the ED has levied a fine of Rs 121.56 crore in connection with its ongoing investigation into the alleged contravention of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) in transferring Rs 243 crore to South Africa to host the second edition of the IPL in 2009.

The official said that the agency has levied a penalty of Rs 82.66 crore on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Rs 11.53 crore on its former boss Srinivasan, Rs 10.65 crore on Modi, Rs 9.72 crore on former BCCI treasurer M.P. Pandove, Rs 7 crore on the State Bank of Travancore and Rs 10 lakh penalty on then Chief Manager.

According to the agency officials, the investigation revealed that Rs 243 crore was transferred to the Cricket South Africa (CSA) in 2009 and this money was routed into another dedicated bank account opened by CSA in the name of CSA-IPL.

“Thereafter, by virtue of an agreement between BCCI and CSA, BCCI exercised full control over the operation of this foreign bank account thereby avoided scrutiny of these expenses by any Indian authority,” the official said.

Trump to pardon Indian American media personality

United States President Donald Trump has said that he will pardon Dinesh D’Souza, a controversial conservative Indian-American media personality, who was convicted of making illegal contributions to a Republican Party candidate for Senate.

Trump tweeted on Thursday, “Will be giving a Full Pardon to Dinesh D’Souza today. He was treated very unfairly by our government.”

D’Souza was prosecuted by Indian-American New York federal prosecutor Preet Bharara, and convicted in 2014 of making illegal election contributions of $10,000 to Republican Senate Candidate Wendy Long.

A journalist, author and filmmaker, D’Souza was a harsh critic of former President Barack Obama and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

He is known for stirring controversy with his angry rhetoric.

He was fined $30,000 and sentenced to five years of probation and eight months of overnight detention in a so-called halfway house.

Bharara defended his role tweeting, “D’Souza intentionally broke the law, voluntarily pled guilty, apologized for his conduct & the judge found no unfairness.

However, a Indian-American, Sant Chatwal, who illegally contributed $188,000 illegal election contributions to Clinton was not prosecuted by Bharara, but was taken to court by former Attorney General Loretta Lynch when she was the federal prosecutor in Brooklyn in 2014.

Chatwal on his conviction was not sentenced to overnight detention like D’Souza, but received three years of probation, a fine of $500,000 and $1 million in forfeiture.

Prosecutors kept Clinton’s name off the charges, saying only that Chatwal had made an illegal contribution.

Chatwal, however, named her as the recipient in court papers pleading for leniency.

Republican Senator welcomed D’Souza’s pardon, tweeting, “Dinesh was the subject of a political prosecution, brazenly targeted by the Obama administration bc (because) of his political views.”

D’Souza’s book, “The Roots of Obama’s Rage,” which claimed that Obama was furthering the anti-colonial ideology to run down the US, was later made into a film.

He also produced a scathing documentary on Clinton, “Hillary’s America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party.”

Bharara had also prosecuted Rajat Gupta, Raj Rajaratnam and Mathew Martoma for insider trading on Wall Street, and had Indian diplomat Devyani arrested.
