Bengaluru: Coming to the defence of Vijay Mallya, former prime minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Deve Gowda on Saturday, termed the former liquor baron as a son of Karnataka and said that he is not running away from the country.

Raising objection to Mallya being termed as an absconder, Gowda said, the Enforcement Directorate has issued summons to Mallya and he has already replied to those.

“These days every airlines facing the losses, so no need to target a person who is a global businessman,” the JD(S) leader opined.

The ED on Friday issued summons for appearance to the former liquor baron and questioned some former Kingfisher airlines executives while his “fleeing” from India triggered a spat in Parliament. However, the insisted that he had not fled the country.

Mallya, who is facing legal proceedings for alleged loan defaults by his group to the tune of over Rs 9,000 crore, said he will comply with the law of the land.

“I am an international businessman. I travel to and from India frequently. I did not flee from India and neither am I an absconder. Rubbish,” Mallya, who is believed to be in the UK, tweeted from an undisclosed location.

Deve Gowda

Bengaluru: JD(S) supremo Deve Gowda lashed out at his party man Zameer Ahmed, stating he was unsure which party Zameer was working for.

“I do not know if Mr Zameer is in the Congress or Janata Dal (Secular). He has no moral right to participate in any of our party functions,” Gowda told the media.

Urdu papers, reportedly have carried advertisements denouncing JD(S) to field Ismail Sharief, a Muslim candidate at Hebbal after Congress announced its candidature of Jaffer Sharief’s grandson Rahman Sharief.

“They did this to split Muslim votes. Zameer has said he would do anything to save the party. I am not sure which party he belongs to. He has even refused to campaign for us and I do not know why,” Gowda said.

October 8, 2015 by Nasheman

Deve Gowda

“Nobody should prevent others from consuming beef. It’s a personal choice. We should avoid unnecessary debate on atheism,” he added.

Meanwhile, he also slammed NASSCOM for not inviting the CM for the Indo-German business summit attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. “This is an insult to six crore Kannadigas”, he said.

July 27, 2015 by Nasheman

Deve Gowda

Bengaluru: Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda on Monday began a hunger strike here demanding discussion in Parliament on the farmers’ suicide in the country.

Flanked by party MPs, MLAs, and Samajwadi Party supporters at Jantar Mantar here, the JD(S) leader said that his hunger strike will continue till a discussion takes place on the issue of farmers’ suicide in Parliament. Asked about Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh’s reply in Parliament on farmers’ suicide, he said it was the worst statement made by the Agriculture Minister.

“It is one of the worst statements made by the Agriculture Minister. It is unbecoming of the Agriculture Minister at the national level. I am so sorry, how Prime Minister Narendra Modi tolerated this type of statement,” Gowda said adding that it should be condemned. Gowda talks of retirement, says his family never fought for personal gain

April 24, 2015 by Nasheman

deve-GOWDA

Bengaluru: The former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, who is keen on strengthening Janata Parivar in the nation, has said that he would retire from politics by next parliamentary elections.

“I am 87 and will retire from politics by next Parliament election,” the veteran leader said in an interview.

He also said that his family neither fought for personal gain nor did it come in the way of leaders taking up issues.

Mr Gowda describes the yet-to-be officially formed political entity Janata Parivar as “Third Force”, an alternative to the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Asked about his role in the new political dispensation at the national level, he said that he was not bothered about his position, as his dream of creating an alternative to the Congress and the BJP at the national level is finally realized.

“I have made it clear to the leadership that the power to take decisions concerning Karnataka and Kerala units remains with me, just as Mulayam Singh Yadav, Nitish Kumar or Lalu Prasad Yadav enjoy the powers in their respective States,” he said.

Bill to trifurcate Bengaluru civic body introduced

April 20, 2015 by Nasheman

BBMP-BUILDING

Bengaluru: Amid stiff opposition from both BJP and JD(S), the Karnataka government today introduced a bill in the Assembly aimed to trifurcate Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the city civic body, after failing to get the Governor’s assent to an ordinance on the issue.

The Karnataka Municipal Corporations (Amendment) Bill, 2015, was introduced in the Assembly by Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra during the one-day special session of the Karnataka legislature.

As the House met, BJP demanded that the issue of crop damage due to unseasonal rains and hail storms be taken up first.

Leader of the Opposition BJP Jagadish Shettar said the farmers issue due to crop damage should be taken on priority as they were on the verge of committing suicide in some parts. He also charged that Ministers and officials are not visiting affected areas and surveys were not being conducted properly. Relief work was also tardy, he said.

Both BJP and JD(S) members objected to the introduction of the bill, saying the matter was before the court and demanded ruling from the Speaker Kagodu Thimappa.

Thimmappa said the Assembly has the right to legislate, following which Jayachandra introduced the bill and said government’s sole intention is welfare of Bengaluru and its people.

JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy objecting to introduction of the bill questioned the intention behind it. “Does this have any vision?” he asked.

This lead to heated argument between opposition and treasury benches. Intervening, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the House has been convened for the specific purpose of discussing the bill and reminded BJP about how its leaders had advocated for dividing Bengaluru while in power.

He said BBMP is not functioning properly with lots of irregularities and works were not happening on schedule. BBMP had to be divided and decentralised to make it more effective.

BBMP trifurcation will happen, says MLC D’Souza

April 17, 2015 by Nasheman

MLC D’Souza

Mangaluru/Bengaluru: The Karnataka state government has decided to convene an emergency session of the Legislative Assembly on April 20 to discuss and pass a Bill on the trifurcation of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

Informing this to the press persons at the Congress Office, Mangaluru on Friday, April 17, MLC Ivan D’Souza said the BJP had only been playing blame game on the BBMP trifurcation issue for political gains despite the fact that it was the then BJP leader Suresh Kumar who had initially mulled for trifurcating the civic body.

“The BJP was happy with the decision back then. However, since we are planning to go ahead with the idea considering overall development of the BBMP and the Bengaluru residents, the BJP and the JD(S) have been opposing it,” he said.

Coming down heavily on JD(S) Supremo H D Devegowda’s move to direct his party functionaries to boycott the Assembly session, D’Souza said that it was against the principles of democracy.

Clearing the air that the move was a ploy to postpone conducting the BBMP elections, he said that the party was not fearing a loss as it had contested numerous elections in which it has enjoyed both success as well as failure. He opined that conducting elections for the BBMP Council will be a waste of time and money if the BBMP is trifurcated. Instead, the state government will supersede the existing BBMP. Hence, the trifurcation is a certainty.

Patna: Lashing out at the BJP for its comments on Janata Parivar merger, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Thursday said that the coming together of the six parties will prove to be “destructive” for the saffron party.

“The BJP does not know that the merger, of which they are making fun, will prove to be destructive for them. Infact their leaders are not poking fun, they are displaying fear present in their subconscious minds due to the merger,” Kumar said

Kumar was speaking to mediapersons at Patna airport this morning on his arrival from New Delhi after attending the merger of Janata Dal (United), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Samajwadi Party (SP), Janata Dal (Secular), Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and Samajwadi Janata Party (SJP).

The merger of these six parties, which were originally part of the Janata Dal that swept the 1989 Lok Sabha polls, was declared at SP President Mulayam Singh Yadav’s residence in New Delhi.

The name, flag and symbol of the new party will be announced later.

“The BJP is saying that there is still some hindrance in merger. But the fact is that it is worried from its core due to it,” Kumar claimed.

The chief minister said all the parties collectively decided that Mulayam Singh Yadav will be the president of the new party.

“A committee consisting of the presidents of all the six parties has been formed. It will chalk out the schedule to finalise everything related to the new party. It will decide on the name, policy, programme, flag, symbol of the new party. The decisions will be taken collectively,” he added.

Responding to questions regarding time frame of declaring the name and symbol of the party, Kumar said Yadav will take initiative to call meetings, deliberate over the issues and take further action.

He allayed fears that the merger will have any negative effect on the functioning of the Bihar government.

“The government will keep working as usual. It will work determinedly on the agenda of development and good governance. It will keep serving the state,” he added.
