JD(S) rules out alliance in Council elections

November 28, 2015 by Nasheman

Kumaraswamy

Mysuru: JD(S) president H D Kumaraswamy ruled out an alliance with any party whatsoever in the upcoming Council elections.

H D Kumaraswamy at a press meet held in Mysuru said that both the national parties have cheated the state, especially the farmer community. “Following this, we have decided to field our own candidates from all 25 seats. Few party people who should discuss few matters within the party are doing it in public and those work against the party will face action”, he asserted.

With regard to the list of the candidates he informed that it will be finalised within the next two days. He also said that internal conflict in the party will be discussed with party supremo HD Devegowda.

“Both the national parties have attempted to close Lokayukta organisation as they closed KPSC organisation. They have wasted 10 days of winter session for their political gain”, he alleged.

JD(S) supremo H D Devegowda too, turned on his previously made statement and ruled out an alliance with Congress in the upcoming council elections. Earlier on Thursday, he had asserted alliance with the Congress.

Kumaraswamy threatens to withdraw support after corruption charges surface in BBMP

November 5, 2015 by Nasheman

Kumaraswamy

Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) that was formed after the alliance between the Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) is now in a critical position as former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy has threatened to withdraw support after corruption charges were leveled against the new set up.

Addressing the media, Kumaraswamy said that he was fed up with the corruption in the BBMP. The Mayor should have taken initiative and seen that the BBMP was corruption-free; due to this the people suffer. However, if the trend continues, we may have to rethink our alliance with the Congress, he added.

Siddaramaiah reacting on the issue said that he had not received any official intimation about withdrawing support from the alliance; however he assured that he would speak to Kumaraswamy regarding the matter.

It should be noted that though the BJP emerged as the single largest party in the BBMP polls, an alliance was struck between the Congress and the JD(S) and they have been sharing power from the past two months.

Land scam: HDK demands Minister Deshpande’s resignation

September 29, 2015 by Nasheman

Kumaraswamy

Bengaluru: JDS Karnataka unit president H D Kumaraswamy today sought resignation of Industries Minister R V Deshpande for “illegally” acquiring reserved forest land near here.

He threatened that if Deshpande does not resign in the next ten days, he would file petition before the Green Bench against cabinet ministers including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Kumaraswamy had alleged last week that Deshpande and 49 others had illegally acquired vast tracts of reserved forest land near here.

“Last week, I had released government documents, exposing Deshpande’s illegal acquisition of forest land in the city.

The Chief Minister so far has not taken any action in this regard. If he continues to protect the minister I will file a petition before the Green Bench against him, Revenue Minister Srinivasa Prasad, Forest Minister Ramanath Rai and Deshpande,” Kumaraswamy told reporters here.

The former chief minister had tabled documents to support his claims of a “land scam.” He had claimed that government was proposing to fix the guideline value of land at Rs 22,000 per sq feet and once that was done the value of the “scam” would be more than Rs 14,000 crore.

Kumaraswamy had alleged that these people, including Deshpande, had “illegally” acquired more than 177.28 acres in Jakkur-Allasandra plantation village, which was declared Reserved Forest in 1940 by erstwhile Mysore Government.

Replying to a query, Kumaraswamy said: “Siddaramaiah, government and BJP are silent over the issue … they are silent because I suspect they also must have illegally acquired the reserved forest land.”

Kumaraswamy said the scam was brought to the notice of the government by chief conservator of forests by writing a letter to the government, seeking an inquiry.

The Chief Minister, after forming the government, had promised strict action against land grabbers, but so far no action had been taken, he said.

“Whose interest or whom are the Chief Minister protecting – the land-grabbers or poor people, who are the rightful beneficiaries of government land to build houses. The Chief Minister should respond immediately,” Kumaraswamy said.

Deshpande had denied the charge linking him last week and argued that it was not possible for anybody to purchase reserved forest land.

“Is it possible to purchase land declared as reserved forest? It is not possible. I request Kumaraswamy to review his allegations against me,” he had said.

Bengaluru: The Karnataka Lokayukta on Saturday filed FIRs against former chief ministers and BJP and JDS leaders BS Yeddyurappa and HD Kumaraswamy in an alleged illegal land denotification case.

According to RTI documents, Kumaraswamy and Yeddyurappa have been made, respectively, the number one and number two accused in the case.

Both former chief ministers are accused of denotifying a prime plot to benefit Kumaraswamy’s relative.

The CID had held a preliminary inquiry on the findings of a Comptroller and Auditor General of India report of 2012 on land denotification carried out by the successive governments from 2007-12 and had recently submitted its report to the Lokayukta.

The report said the accused have prima facie played a stellar role in denotifying huge tracts of land, causing a financial loss to the exchequer, Lokayukta said.

The CAG had made scathing remarks against the incumbent chief ministers between 2007 to 2012 who disregarded the well- defined law that once the land is in possession it could not be denotified.

The denotification of 610 acres and 16.5 acres of land referred to in the CAG report were ordered when Kumaraswamy and Yeddyurappa were the chief ministers and in between during a period of Governor’s rule.

Bengaluru: The lottery scam in Karnataka including police officials is becoming a cause for political war in state.

Following the allegations by JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy that the Congress government at the state is suporting the tainted police officials involved in the lottery scam, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday retaliated saying that HD Kumaraswamy is trying to derail the  lottery scam investigation.

Addressing the media here, CM stated that baseless allegations were hurled at him and the government by the JD (S) Supremo Deve Gowda and his son HD Kumaraswamy.

“When Janardhana Reddy accused Kumaraswamy of accepting a bribe of Rs 150 crore from the mining lobby, why Deve Gowda did not advise his son  to hand over the case to the CBI?” questioned Siddaramaiah.

JD(S) leader has blamed the Congress government and Home Minister KJ George of being involved in the scam without any evidence, stated CM Siddaramaiah.

Bengaluru: The Karnataka Lokayukta Police has filed FIRs against former Chief Ministers B S Yeddyurappa and H D Kumaraswamy in a land denotificaton case, charging them under the Prevention of Corruption Act and several IPC provisions, including criminal conspiracy and cheating.

Both leaders have been accused of denotifying land at Matadahalli Layout in R T Nagar here, with Vimala, the mother-in-law of Kumaraswamy, and her son T S Channappa, also being named in the FIRs, Lokayukta Superintendent of Police Sonia Narang said here.

Sections 13 (i) (c) and (d) and 13 (ii) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, pertaining to criminal misconduct by public servants have been invoked against Yeddyurappa and Kumaraswamy, Narang said.

Denotification is a process of returning government land acquired for a project to private parties.

The process gathered pace after Kumaraswamy put up the files, and the land was denotified by Yeddyurappa as Chief Minister in 2010, social activist Jayayakumar Hiremath, who is the complainant, charged.

JDS leader Kumaraswamy, predecessor to Yeddyurappa, had headed a BJP-JDS coalition government.

Yeddyurappa had denotified one acre and 11 guntas (1/40th of an acre) of land, which was originally owned by Thimmareddy, Nagappa and Muniswamappa, Hiremath charged.

He also alleged that Bangalore Development Authority had acquired the land for forming a layout Mathadahalli for which it issued the preliminary notification in 1976.

The land was taken into possession in 1988 after final notification and compensation paid to land losers subsequently, Hiremath said.

Besides these, charges under Sections 401 (criminal breach of trust by public servant), 418 (cheating with knowledge that wrongful loss may ensue to person whose interest offender is bound to protect), 420 (cheating), and 120 B (Punishment of criminal conspiracy) of Indian Penal Code have also been slapped against them.

Congress to release its counter book on controversy-ridden Arkavathi Layout

Bengaluru: The Congress has decided to counter Janata Dal (Secular) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy’s nearly 500-page book on the controversy-ridden Arkavathi Layout with a book of its own.

Addressing presspersons here on Sunday, C.M. Dhananjaya, chairman of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Legal Cell, said the book on the denotification of land in the layout was being brought out to explain the “ground reality” to the public. It would be distributed to Congress workers in all districts, he said.

KPCC president G. Parameshwara would release the book in two or three days, he said. The JD(S) had released its book on Saturday and alleged a “direct role” by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the denotification of land.

He alleged that former Chief Ministers H.D. Kumaraswamy, B.S. Yeddyurappa and Jagadish Shettar were involved in the denotification of land in the layout.

There was no substance in the Opposition’s allegations against Mr. Siddaramaiah, he said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that documents on Arkavathi Layout, running to nearly 1.5 lakh pages, would be submitted to the Judicial Commission, headed by Kempaiah, on Monday.

Mr. Siddaramaiah, who was in New Delhi on Sunday to attend a meeting of NITI Aayog, told presspersons that the documents had been collected from various agencies, including BDA, over the last several months.

The Judicial Commission was constituted five months ago to probe the denotification of land in the layout following a demand by Opposition parties.

HD Kumaraswamy releases 490-page Book on Arkavathy

February 7, 2015 by Nasheman

Kumaraswamy-Book-Arkavathy

Bengaluru: JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy on Friday intensified his attack on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah over the Arkavathy Layout land denotification row.

The former chief minister released a 490-page book- Arkavathy Karmakaanda- which presents details of denotification of over 700 acres in the Arkavathy Layout by the Siddaramaiah regime.

He ridiculed Siddaramaiah’s claim that he would have faced contempt proceedings if he had not denotified land in Arkavathy Layout as per six parameters set by both the High Court and Supreme Court. He pointed out that the court had neither used the word “Re-do” nor set any parameters.

Kumaraswamy admitted that his own party MLAs didn’t support its release. He also said he won’t submit the book to the Justice HS Kempanna Commission, which is probing allegations of denotification from 2003 to 2014. “I will neither approach the commission nor any court. I will upload its contents on the JD(S) party website and go before the people’s court,” he said.

Kumaraswamy said he came out with the book fearing that he would not get enough time on the floor of the House to discuss the issue.

Booklet on Arkavathi to 'expose' CM: H D Kumaraswamy

February 3, 2015 by Nasheman

H D Kumaraswamy

Bengaluru: A booklet on the illegalities of Arkavathi Layout aimed to expose the Congress government will be released soon, said JD (S) leader H D Kumaraswamy.

The booklet has been prepared based on 7,000 pages of official documents which clearly suggest that CM Siddaramaiah himself had signed the documents pertaining to the land deletion, Kumarswamy said.

The booklets will be distributed to all the members of the Assembly during the ongoing session, he added.

When asked why the documents were not submitted to the Justice H S Kempanna Commission, Kumaraswamy said a scam of this magnitude has to be handed over to CBI for inquiry.

Amid criticism Deve Gowda announces son as JD(S) Karnataka Chief

Bengaluru: Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda on Thursday announced appointment of his son H D Kumaraswamy as President of the JDS state unit, even as he acknowledged there was a need to dispel the impression that his was a “father-son party.”

Gowda, who has come under constant attack over his family maintaining a stranglehold over JDS, defended the appointment of Kumaraswamy, a former Chief Minister who is under pressure in recent weeks to play a more active role.

It was a “big tragedy” that JDS was being labelled “father-son party” in Karnataka, Gowda said.

“Aren’t father and their children in the same party in other states?, the JDS chief asked.” If Mamata Banerjee (West Bengal Chief Minister) and Mayawati (BSP leader) had children, what would they have done?, he said, hitting back at the detractors who accuse him of promoting dynastic politics.

The state unit president’s post was lying vacant for the past seven months following the death of A Krishnappa due to heart attack on April 23. He was party candidate for Tumkur Lok Sabha seat. The backward classes leader had assumed the charge in September last year.

The decision to appoint Kumaraswamy was taken at a high-level meeting of party state office-bearers, legislators, district unit presidents and former legislators held here in which Gowda took part.

This is not the first time Kumaraswamy is holding the post. He was appointed as the JDS president in 2008 after the death of Meerajuddin Patel.

Kumaraswamy had quit the post following the party’s defeat in last year’s August 21 bypolls to Bengaluru Rural and Mandya Lok Sabha seats, considered the party’s bastion.

Gowda also announced apointments of Mahantesh Patil and Amarnath Shetty as Vice Presidents, Sharada Purya Nayak, Dinakar Shetty (Gneral Secretaries) and Meenakshi Naneesh and Dr Riaz Farooq (Secretaries).

Assuming the charge, Kumraswamy said he would make all efforts to build the party and take up farmers’ issues.

In 2013, he resigned from the Lok Sabha after winning election to the Karnataka Assembly in which his party emerged the second largest in terms of vote share percentage.
