Imran Khan, Reham divorce with mutual consent

Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and TV journalist Reham Khan have divorced with mutual consent after 10 months of marriage, PTI spokesperson Naeemul Haq said Friday.

‘Divorce is painful’

In a series of tweets, Imran Khan wrote that the divorce is painful for him, Reham and their respective families and requested everyone to respect their privacy.

This is a painful time for me & Reham & our families. I would request everyone to respect our privacy.

— Imran Khan (@ImranKhanPTI) October 30, 2015

I have the greatest respect for Reham’s moral character & her passion to work for & help the underprivileged. — Imran Khan (@ImranKhanPTI) October 30, 2015

He categorically denied the rumours about any financial settlement between them adding that he has great respect for Reham’s moral character and her passion to help and work for the underprivileged people of society.

Reports & speculation about financial settlements are absolutely false and shameful.

— Imran Khan (@ImranKhanPTI) October 30, 2015

Six months in, rumours that the marriage was falling apart began to circulate. While the couple was seen together on occasion, Imran last month tweeted an apparent refutation of the rumours: “I am shocked at a TV channel making slanderous statement about my marriage. I strongly urge the media to desist from such baseless statements.”

Earlier, Haq had also told DawnNews that Imran Khan had requested the media to avoid speculation and respect the sensitivity of the situation.

‘Just not getting along’

A source close to the PTI chairman, who asked not to be named, said the two were “just not getting along.”

“She wanted to get involved with politics and that is not what Khan wanted at all. She just did not want to sit at home,” he told Dawn.com.

“There were teething problems as well over other issues which were being resolved but this was a major issue — she wanted to get into politics and was not ready to back down.”

Another confidante of Imran Khan told Dawn.com that there was “a lot of pressure on Khan” from his family to divorce Reham, an apparent reference to Imran’s sister Aleema Khan who had made no secret of her displeasure over the marriage.

Despite several attempts, Reham could not be reached for a comment, but posted an announcement of the divorce on Twitter:

We have decided to part ways and file for divorce.

— Reham Khan (@RehamKhan1) October 30, 2015

Sources said Reham has left Pakistan for London and is expected to address a conference there.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has also asked party leaders to refrain from commenting on Imran Khan’s personal life.

The announcement today stirred a fiery debate on social media, with fans and naysayers of both Khan and Reham posting their two cents and taking sides.

In August this year the PTI chief had announced that Reham Khan, will not be playing an active role in party affairs, following “attacks” on his then wife in the aftermath of the party’s defeat in the NA-19 (Haripur) by-polls.

Loved by millions across the cricket-obsessed nation for winning Pakistan its only World Cup in 1992, Khan’s sporting prowess and rugged good looks brought him international celebrity.

He was considered his country’s most eligible man until he suddenly announced his plans to marry shortly after calling off a movement to topple the government in December after a Taliban attack on a school that killed 150 people.

The PTI chairman and television journalist Reham Khan had tied the knot in a simple nikkah ceremony which took place in January this year at Khan’s Bani Gala residence.

The nikkah, which was a low-key affair, was conducted by Mufti Saeed and was followed by a photo session. The wedding had captivated the entire country, with television channels going all out to cover the event and furnishing their audience with details of wedding sherwani and chappals.

In its early days, the marriage was marked by public appearances of the newlyweds who were seen smiling and happy at various events. Reham on several occasions had candidly expressed her feelings for Imran, saying he is “no longer alone”. In an early interview, she had said: “I didn’t know Mr Khan was Mr Right, you wait your whole life for Mr Right and then you find Mr Most Right.”

Reham had recently also sparked controversy after it emerged that she had not actually attended a college where she claimed to be a student on her website.

Born in 1952 in Lahore into a comfortable family with origins in the Pashtun northwest, Imran Khan was educated at Aitchison College and then Oxford University.

He became one of the world’s greatest ever all-rounders — a fearsome fast bowler and dangerous batsman — whose finest hour came at the 1992 World Cup, where at the age of 39 he led an inexperienced team to the title.

Off the pitch, he had a string of socialite girlfriends and frequented exclusive nightclubs in London until he married Jemima Goldsmith, the daughter of the French-British tycoon James, in 1995

Hi marriage with the Jemima lasted for nine years and ended amicably in 2004 with Goldsmith stating that she was unable to adapt to life in Pakistan.

Imran Khan has two sons from his previous marriage to Jemima.

Reham Khan was previously married to psychologist Ijaz Rehman, with whom she had three children.

“Katti Batti happens to be one of those rare films that I am really satisfied with”: Imran Khan

September 19, 2015 by Shaheen Raaj

katti batti imran khan

Bollywood actor Imran Khan, who is going to back on the celluloid silver screen after almost 2 years, recently interacted with the media to promote his film ‘Katti Batti’ which also stars Kangana Ranaut. He spoke about an array of things. Here’s a small snippet from the conversation.

To set the ball rolling in your court, tell us what are expectations from ‘Katti Batti’ that is releasing this week?

You never know what to expect because that’s the reality of our business. For me, I have no sort of expectations. But it’s one of the rare films where I know that I’m really satisfied doing it.

Why do you consider ‘Katti Batti’ to be one of those rare films of your career?

You see there are so many variables & so many degrees of separation from the script to the day that the film releases that very often things get out of your hand & out of control and you end up with a film which you look at and be like ‘this is not what I signed for or this isn’t what I was planning for.’ But I strongly believe that ‘Katti Batti’ happens to be one of those rare films which has turned out to be exactly what I’d hoped for.

So are you contented with the way ‘Katti Batti’ has finally shaped up?

Of course I am totally contented. In fact I can look at the film from beginning to end and there is not a single frame that seems to me to be out of place. There was not a moment that I could say, ‘I wish I could fix this or I wish I could change that’. So that way your personal satisfaction is very rare.

Did you get this satisfactory feeling even with your previous films too?

You bet I’ve had this satisfactory feeling a couple of times before too, I felt that way about my other films too like ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’, ‘Delhi Belly & also ‘Ek Main Aur Ek Tu’. So getting that feeling is quite lovely.

How about revealing your feelings of sharing the celluloid screen space with Kangana Ranaut?

It would sound very cliched if say that it was real great fun to share the celluloid screen space with her. In fact I would say that she is full of volcanic histrionics that’s ever ready to erupt the moment she faces the arc lights. So for me it was a great challenge to match her talent frame by frame.

And what would you say about your captain of the ship Nikhil Advani?

Oh! Come on! Nikhil is an accomplished director in his own right. He does not need words of praises from his actors per se. He has already proved his directorial worth time & again. Lastly I would say that more than the captain of the ship, Nikhil is a great buddy both on & off the sets.

As a parting shot please clarify whether it is true that your Uncle Aamir Khan had literally asked the director Nikhil Advani to tone down few of the dialogues of the film ‘Katti Batti’?

In this regard I would like to state that Aamir had a very interesting point and this is something that developed without even us realising it. Nikhil & my tendency is a little more urban, so in our making the film natural & organic, a lot of English lines had come in. On the other hand Aamir had said something interesting that our story, our emotional thread is very broad -based, it’s not an urban sentiment only, the heart is broad – based. So if people understand all the dialogues, they’ll all like it. He said that you are excluding an audience just because you’re saying things in a language they don’t understand. He then left it to our choice. Since Aamir had a point there, they tweaked a few dialogues into Hindi while dubbing. As we’d already shot it, so while dubbing we’ve tweaked some of the lines into Hindi. Specifically the plot points, any point that comprehension would be an issue where you’re revealing something relevant to the story & plot. All of those scenes we’ve particularly made sure that they’re in Hindi so that we don’t disconnect. It had not occurred to Nikhil or me and it’s these little things which make a difference between all of us watching it & liking it and even my driver, who represents a section of common layman cine goers, actually liked watching it and getting all of it. And I hope that the audiences too like it. That’s it!

Actor Mohan Babu manhandles reporter, politicos condemn assault on the media

March 5, 2015 by Nasheman

times-now-mohan-babu

New Delhi: Cutting across party lines, several politicians on Wednesday condemned actor Mohan Babu’s indecent gesture towards a reporter and said there can’t be any excuse for assaulting the media.

The actor pushed a journalist of a leading English channel when the scribe asked former home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde to respond to the ongoing controversy surrounding the Nirbhaya documentary.

BJP leader Nalin Kohli said the media’s job is to ask questions and added that there cannot be any excuse for assaulting the media.

“Of course, people may raise or have issues related to their privacies, non-intrusion may be there. So, I would say that is condemnable. Nobody should assault the media. They are doing its job,” he added.

Congress leader Renuka Chaudhary also echoed similar sentiments and appealed for self-regulation of the media and general public.

“I am not aware what the facts are. The media, public, people have a relationship that sometimes go this way or sometimes go that way. Violence in general that we do not approve of and it would be best if we could regulate our self and see that we do not step on each others’ toes,” she said.

Police have clashed with hundreds of protesters from the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, who were attempting to shut down the eastern city of Faisalabad as part of its leader Imran Khan’s movement against the federal government.

Police used water cannons, wooden batons and tear gas on Monday against protesters in several areas, including the central Millat Chowk area, local news television footage showed.

The situation remains tense, as supporters of the PTI, also known as the Movement for Justice party, refuse to back down.

Protesters conducted sit-ins at main intersections in the city, a major economic hub, and shouted slogans against the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) government.

They burned tyres and blocked roads, while PML-N workers threw rocks and used wooden batons, prompting owners of businesses in areas where the protests were taking place to shut down their shops.

Small groups of PTI supporters have clashed with PML-N workers as well.

The protest is part of a call Khan made on November 30, calling for “shut down” protests to be held in several Pakistani cities to increase pressure on the PML-N government, before a countrywide strike on December 18.

Khan, a former cricketer, alleges that the PML-N government rigged the 2013 general elections, internationally recognised as largely free and fair, in order to sideline his party.

Since August this year, he has been leading protests around the country calling for Nawaz Sharif to resign as prime minister.

Pakistan's Tahir ul Qadri ends alliance with Imran Khan's party

November 18, 2014 by Nasheman

Tahir-ul-Qadri (left) joins hands with Imran Khan during a protest near prime minister's residence

Islamabad: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) has parted ways with Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), PAT chief Tahirul Qadri said Tuesday.

Addressing a party convention, Qadri said: “Those who are part of status quo and involved in corruption cannot become our allies.”

He said that the parties have different programmes, according to a Geo News report.

Qadri alleged that formation of a joint investigation team for probing the Model Town tragedy was a futile practice.

He said that the Punjab government has not arrested a single suspect in connection with the incident.

The cleric called for capital punishment for those involved in spreading sectarian hatred and claimed that the situation could be improved only after the “execution of some people”.

He said that both the civilian and military governments had never helped common people in Pakistan.

“We have never seen democracy in Pakistan for even a single day,” the PAT chief lamented.

Fourteen people, including women, were killed and dozens injured when clashes between PAT supporters and the police took place at the Minhajul Quran secretariat in Lahore’s Model Town suburb June 17.
