Movie Review: ‘Fan’ is devoid of any entertainment value and may over all appeal only to die hard SRK fans

April 18, 2016 by Shaheen Raaj

fan

Banner: Yash Raj Films
Producer: Aditya Chopra
Director: Maneesh Sharma
Star Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Waluscha De Sousa, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Sayani Gupta, Deepika Amin & Yogendra Tiku
Music: Vishal – Shekhar & Andrea Guerilla

Director Maneesh Sharma has tackled a very sensitive subject of a so called superstar and his so called obsession for the superstar in his latest offering Fan. But he has certainly disappointed all the SRK fans with his so called convoulted plot. And both director Maneesh Sharma & screenplay writer Habib Faisal are solely responsible for this hotch potch scenario.

The scripted scenario of Fan narrates the story of Gaurav, an over – obsessive fan, whose life revolves around superstar Aryan. In his desire to meet his idol, Gaurav embarks on a journey to Mumbai. However, his interaction with the man he hero – worships & idolises But the superstar fails to meet his expectations. Resultantly, Gaurav decides to get nasty & malicious.

All said & done Fan may not be the most original piece of work as cine goers are bound to draw parallels with other films of this genre especially the Robert De Nero – Wesley Snipes Hollywood movie of the same name. Fan of course is not deviod of its share of flaws. The other minus point of Fan is that it is devoid of any entertainment value.

Performance wise SRK succeeds in holding his fort as an obssessively dangerous fan Gaurav, here too he shows more of his negative streaks as he had shown in Darr & Anjaam. He has just carried forward those roles. And as Aryan the real – life superstar he is just about ok. So if SRK is charming & believable as the superstar, he delivers a sterling performance as the fan with vengeance on his mind. While the other actors like Shriya Pilgaonkar, Sayani Gupta, Deepika Amin, Yogendra Tiku are really superb. On the other hand Waluscha De Sousa has simply been wasted. doesn’t get much scope.

Shah Rukh Khan’s car damaged by VHP miscreants in Gujarat

February 15, 2016 by Nasheman

SHAHRUKH khan

Ahmedabad: Shouting slogans against actor Shah Rukh Khan, members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad or VHP threw stones at a parking lot of a luxury hotel in Ahmedabad early on Sunday damaging his car.

The attack was reportedly against the shooting of his upcoming film “Raees” in Gujarat over his earlier remarks on “intolerance”.

The film’s crew members are staying in the hotel but the 50-year-old actor was not there at the time of the incident as he arrived in Ahmedabad only this afternoon.

After an FIR for rioting and damaging property was filed in this regard in the evening, at least seven persons, claimed to be associated with the VHP, were detained, police said.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) BU Jadeja, eight to 10 people threw stones in the open parking lot of Hyatt Regency Hotel on Ashram Road, where Mr Khan’s vehicle was parked, this morning and fled from the spot.

“As per the complaint lodged by the Security Officer of the hotel, eight to 10 persons came on bikes and threw stones on cars parked in the open parking lot early this morning. Due to the stone pelting, windscreen of Shah Rukh Khan’s car got damaged,” said Mr Jadeja.

“We have learnt that Shah Rukh Khan was not there in the hotel when incident took place. Some of his crew members, who have come here for shooting, were staying in the hotel. Shah Rukh landed in the city this afternoon for the shoot,” he added. The shooting is taking place in Bhuj.

Meanwhile, a video showing unidentified persons throwing stones inside the hotel also surfaced on social media sites. In the video, they can be seen shouting slogans against Mr Khan and fleeing on bikes after throwing stones.

Gujarat unit of VHP claimed responsibility for the incident. The outfit’s State spokesperson Raju Patel said the detained persons are associated with VHP and threw stones on Mr Khan’s car as part of their ongoing protests against the actor.

Around 20-30 VHP activists had last week handed over a memorandum to Bhuj district officers and demanded withdrawal of the permission given for the shooting of the film. They protested outside the district Collector’s office pressing for the same demand and shouted slogans against the actor and also burnt and tore his posters.

In November last year, Mr Khan sparked a debate when he said during an interview that there was “growing intolerance” in India.

However, the actor later statements just a few days later, claiming his comments had been misconstrued.

Court accepts plea against Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan for wearing shoes in temple

January 16, 2016 by Nasheman

A local court accepted a plea by Hindu Mahasabha against Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and a private TV channel for showing the actors inside a temple wearing shoes during a reality show.

SALMAN-SHAHRUKH

Meerut: A local court accepted a plea by Hindu Mahasabha against Bollywood superstars Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and a private TV channel for purportedly showing the actors inside a temple wearing shoes during a reality show.

The court has fixed the date for hearing on January 18.

“A scene with Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan inside a Kali temple on the sets of TV reality show ‘Bigg Boss’ was broadcast by Colors channel in December last year,” Bharat Rajput, president of Hindu Mahasabha’s Meerut unit said.

Rajput said that he had written a letter to the SSP and the District Magistrate of Meerut on December 23 and also sent an email to the channel over the issue.

He alleged that no one should enter any religious places with their shoes and airing it on TV was insensitive as it hurt people’s religious sentiment.

Rajput said, when the channel didn’t respond and the administration or the police didn’t take steps over the issue, a petition was filed at the court of CJM Sanjay Kumar Singh against the channel, the programme’s director and also Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan.

Movie Review: ‘Dilwale’ is a perfect family entertainer

December 22, 2015 by Shaheen Raaj

Dilwale

Banner: Red Chillies Entertainment & Rohit Shetty Productions
Producer: Gauri Khan
Director: Rohit Shetty
Star Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon, Varun Sharma, Boman Irani, Vinod Khanna, Kabir Bedi, Chetna Pande, Johny Lever, Sanjay Mishra, Mukesh Tripathi, Pankaj Tripathi, Nawab Khan & Shawar Ali
Music: Amar Mohile, Amitabh Bhattacharya & Pritam Chakraborty

The car modifier nay the car smasher director Rohit Shetty, after modifying Chennai Express also is now back with a big bang with his latest offering Dilwale. Audiences knows Rohit Shetty’s historic obsession with cars and smashing them to bits & pieces on their way to a junkyard. So much so that this time he has put SRK, in Dilwale, in his own real life role of a car modifier, but thankfully not a car smasher, who also mends everyone’s heart except his own broken heart. And this time the hit machine director Rohit Shetty has once again ganged up with SRK to deliver one more runaway hit.

This time around the scripted formulaic funda of Dilwale showcases Raj aka Kaali (Shah Rukh Khan), a don from Bulgaria, who now leads a changed life of a car modifier in Goa. His world revolves around his brother Veer (Varun Dhawan). Veer falls in love with Ishita (Kriti Sanon), who happens to be Meera’s (Kajol) sister. Raj & Meera’s paths had collided in the past, as lovers who ultimately break up & migrate from Bulgaria and unknowingly land up in Goa, and that becomes an obstacle for Veer & Ishita.

Rohit Shetty has worked up his magic wand this time around too. One again his directorial showpiece Dilwale may not be critics delight but the audiences of single theatres as well as multiplexes are simply going to lap it up. As in Dilwale Rohit has packed, to the brim, all the requisite commercial ingredients in ample doses. So its time to leave your brains behind, a la David Dhawan movies, and just freak out on the enjoyable entertainment recipe dished out by the Dilwale team. Rohit Shetty focuses on the love story yet again with SRK – Kajol & Varun Dhawan – Kriti Sanon, interspersed with comic elements with the combination of Varun Dhawan – Varun Sharma – Boman Irani – Johny Lever – Sanjay Mishra – Mukesh Tripathi – Pankaj Tripathi, and high -octane action drama perpetrated by none other than Vinod Khanna – Kabir Bedi – Nawab Khan -Shawar Ali. And the technical crew comprising of, Yunus Sajawal (Screenplay), Farhad – Sajid (Dialogues), Amar Mohile, Amitabh Bhattacharya & Pritam Chakraborty (Music – special gems being already popular numbers like “Gerua”, “Manma Emotion Jaage Re”, “Janam Janam” & “Tukur Tukur” which appears in the rolling credits in “The End”, Dudley (Cinematographer – The beautiful locales of Bulgaria & even the Goan ones have proved to be the real visual treats for the eyes), are excellently outstanding. One last thing the editing could have been more sharper & crisper.

Performance wise the film clearly belongs to Shah Rukh Khan & Kajol who have teamed up on the celluloid silver screen after a hiatus of half a decade, they were last seen together in My Name Is Khan. Indeed their charming aura is still intact and of course their on screen chemistry is one of the highlights of the movie Dilwale. And of course the devils must get their own share of due credit as both SRK & Kajol have delivered the niche oriented par excellence act as the young as well as the matured lovers whose love story collides in 2 different time zones. Varun Dhawan is outstanding in his overall act of romance, comedy & action. Varun Sharma is 1st rate in his out & out comic role as Varun Dhawan’s friend. He is a welcome addition to the rooster of established comedians. That
apart a standing ovation also goes to the most talented supporting actors in the cast like Sanjay Mishra, Johny Lever, Mukesh Tiwari, Pankaj Tripathi & above all Boman Irani, Vinod Khannna & Kabir Bedi.

Tail Piece: So guys Dilwale is a perfect entertainer for your entire family & friends and especially for Generation X too.

Was Shah Rukh Khan targeted by ED for speaking on intolerance, asks Congress

November 12, 2015 by Nasheman

SHAHRUKH khan

New Delhi: The Congress on Thursday questioned if Shah Rukh Khan had faced the wrath of Enforcement Directorate (ED) because he spoke up on the issue of intolerance.

On Wednesday, the ED had questioned Khan over alleged violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

“A noted film star like Shah Rukh Khan is grilled for four hours… Whether he is facing wrath for speaking out or whether something wrong has been done by him,” chief spokesperson of Congress Randeep Surjewala said.

He said that suspicions on this score arose as the Enforcement Directorate and the CBI have nowadays become “instruments of vendetta”.

Citing an instance, Surjewala alleged that Himachal Pradesh chief minister Virbhadra Singh, who is the senior-most chief minister in the country, faced ED raid on the day of his daughter’s marriage.

The Enforcement Directorate has recorded the statement of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan in a matter of alleged irregularities in the sale ofSHARES of Knight Riders Sports Pvt Ltd (KRSPL) to a Mauritius-based company.

The case, dating back to 2008-09, pertains to the share sale of KRSPL, owned by Khan’s Red Chillies along with Juhi Chawla and her husband, to a Mauritius-based company owned by Chawla’s husband Jay Mehta.

ED is probing allegations that shares sold to the Jay Mehta-owned Sea Island INVESTMENTS were undervalued by eight to nine times. Khan had faced ED once in 2011 when he was questioned about alleged foreign exchange violation of around Rs 100 crore.

Shah Rukh Khan shouldn’t be targeted because he is Muslim: Shiv Sena

November 4, 2015 by Nasheman

SHAHRUKH khan

Mumbai: Even as he came under attack from sections in BJP, Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan on Wednesday received support from ruling ally Shiv Sena which said the superstar should not be targeted only because he is a Muslim and that the minority community in India is “tolerant”.

“This country is tolerant and the Muslims are tolerant as well. Shah Rukh Khan should not be targeted only because he is a Muslim,” Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said.

BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya had on Tuesday triggered a controversy when he tweeted that Shah Rukh’s “soul” is in Pakistan though he lives in India. His remarks came a day after the 50-year-old actor said there is “extreme intolerance” in the country.

Earlier today controversial BJP MP Yogi Adityanath compared Shah Rukh to Pakistani terrorist Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of Mumbai carnage, over his “extreme intolerance” comment and also suggested that he go to Pakistan.

Slamming Vijayvargiya, Raut asked the BJP general secretary not to bring Pakistan into this debate on tolerance, saying that it is India’s internal matter.

He said Shah Rukh is a superstar only because India is tolerant.

“Shah Rukh Khan is a superstar only because the country is tolerant and has never thought in the name of religion,” the Sena leader said.

However, Raut said Shah Rukh spoke quite late on the issue.

“First of all Shah Rukh Khan should not have gotten into this debate on tolerance and secondly, out of the people who have returned their awards, the number of Muslims is almost negligible. Also, Shah Rukh spoke on the issue very late,” he said.

Meanwhile, under fire for his remark against Shah Rukh, Vijayvargiya on Wednesday withdrew his controversial tweets but asserted that had there been intolerance in India, Shah Rukh would not have been the most popular actor after Amitabh Bachchan.

Nasheman.in exclusive: A nostalgic encounter with Shahrukh Khan

March 10, 2015 by Shaheen Raaj

Shahrukh-Khan

Almost a decade ago veteran film journalist Shaheen Raaj had encountered Badshah Khan who had turned nostalgic while reminiscing about his Bangalorean roots and his deep attachment with his ever-increasing Bangalorean fans.

At that time King Khan Shahrukh had officially visited the Garden City, a favourite city of his and had the Bangaloreans eating out of his hand, it was for the grand ‘Temptation 2005 show at Chinnaswamy Stadium. The Rain Gods playing havoc had marked his 1st round, but he had made it up with his 2nd visit within a fortnight. The show was indeed a grand success. The Khan magic had worked wonders.

What you don’t know is that at that point of time Khan was on an undetected unofficial visit to his aunt’s place in Jaya Mahal. It was strictly a family affair, a kind of a religious ceremony to herald the on coming Holy month of Ramzan. Present herewith is the ad verbatim account in first person.

“I have a special affinity for Bangalore, as I belong here. I can say, in a way, it is like my hometown. I have spent a greater part of my life, especially my childhood and teen summers out here. In fact, my maternal family still stays here and they had all come for my Temptation show (in Chinnaswamy Stadium)!”

“Let me tell you why I love my Bangalore so much. My mother Latifa Fatima hailed from Bangalore. She was born & brought up here and shifted to Delhi only after her marriage. She was a pucca Bangalorean you know. In fact her sister, my aunt, Ahrar Fatima with her entire family including my 1st cousins, Moin Ahmed Shahbaz & Tasneem still reside out here at 18, Nandidurga hills, near Jaya Mahal. Originally, my maternal ancestors were all from Hyderabad but had migrated to Bangalore in the 50’s era.”

“My maternal grandfather Salim Ahmed was an Engineer-in-Chief in Bangalore, a post that was especially created for him, and which ended with him, by the Government of Karnataka.”

“It was my paternal ancestors who hailed from Peshawar and later on migrated to Delhi I think somewhere in the late 50’s era. No wonder I studied in St. Columbus College in Delhi and then acquired my Economic Honors Degree from there.”

“Coming back to my Bangalore days. I still recall two very vivid memories. My cousin Tasneem was a great Amitabh Bachchan fan she used to drag me to various places like M. G. Road, Brigade Road, Commercial Street, City Market & Majestic Circle to hunt for his posters and then she would stick them all up in her room & her vanity cupboard.”

“One fine day I got so bugged that I retorted, ‘You just wait baby, one day you will have to stick my posters too’ and off I went to Brigade Road alone and got my portfolio done in a small dingy studio near Kohinoor Hotel, a Muslim joint which I think still exists. It was the Summer of 82’ and I think my journey to showbiz & stardom began from there. Soon I was back in Delhi and passed my snaps around which got me my small screen break in ‘Fauji’, ‘Doosra Kewal’ and a couple of Telefilms.”

“And you would be surprised to know that it was the same set of snaps, which got me my big screen break in ‘Deewana’ too and the rest, as they say, is history. But the irony of the whole thing is that Tasneem still refuses to buy my posters leave alone sticking them around in her room.”

“My favorite hang out places in Bangalore at that that time was undoubtedly my cousin late Shahbaz Khan’s “Bombay Kababs” joint at the extreme end of Millers Road.”

“Besides how can I forget my movie going trips to Plaza. The Sunday evenings were spent watching the latest English movies with chips, burgers, sandwiches, samosas & soft drinks. Never imagined I would endorse one of them in the near future.”

“Then how can I forget the New Year Nites that I had spent here when we all freaked out by dancing our blues away in ‘The Club’ discotheque on Mysore Road. If time permits, I always make it a point to visit with my best friend Zayed Khan, their family’s resort ‘Golden Palms’ for a chill out spree.”

“Oh! There is so much to speak about Bangalore. But I won’t reveal anymore, as it’s all there in my autobiography to be published soon. Abhi sab bata doonga toh my Bangalorean fans will not pick up my 1st ever written book. Khuda Haafiz”!

BJP's Sadhvi Prachi calls for boycott of Khan triumvirate, slams Mother Theresa

March 3, 2015 by Nasheman

sadhvi_prachi

Dehradun: Suggesting that films starring Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan are spreading a ‘culture of violence’, BJP MP Sadhvi Prachi advised youngsters not to idolise the triumvirate.

Speaking at a programme of Vishwa Hindu Parishad here yesterday, the Sadhvi, known for stoking controversies by her statements, said once she had been to a programme in Meerut where she asked a young boy what he wanted to become in life.

“He said he wanted to become like Hritik Roshan, Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan. When I asked why, his mother told me because they are good at doing stunts,” she said.

Calling for a boycott of the Khan triumvirate’s films by the right wing Hindu outfits, she said, “I, for one, would ask the Bajrangis to make a bonfire of the posters of films of Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan.”

Sadhvi Prachi also accused Mother Teresa of proselytising in the name of service like all missionaries do.

“Mother Teresa indulged in conversion by luring people over to Christianity under the pretext of service,” she said.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had also made similar remarks saying that Christianity was the main objective behind Mother Teresa’s service to the poor.

“Mother Teresa’s service would have been good. But it used to have one objective, to convert the person, who was being served, into a Christian,” he had said while speaking at a function organised by NGO Apna Ghar.
