IPL: Sunrisers Hyderabad halt Gujarat Lions’ charge

April 22, 2016 by Nasheman

Cricket

Rajkot: Sunrisers Hyderabad ended Gujarat Lions’ three-match winning streak with a 10-wicket thumping win in an Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium here on Thursday.

Sunrisers rode on a blistering opening wicket partnership from captain David Warner (74 not out in 48 balls) and Shikhar Dhawan (53 not out in 41 deliveries) to overhaul the small target of 135 for eight in 20 overs with 5.1 overs to spare.

The visitors raced to 63 in six overs to set it up, thanks to early asssault from Warner, who hit three fours in the fourth over bowled by Praveen Kumar to launch the charge. The Australian hit nine fours in total.

His side also got the good news of Dhawan’s returning to form as the left-hander took time to settle down before hitting some trademark shots towards the end as the visitors registered an easy win — their second on the trot.

Rival captain Suresh Raina utilised as many as seven bowlers, even using Dale Steyn and the returning Ravindra Jadeja — but none of them managed to break the opening stand.

However, the foundation of the big win was laid by bowlers, especially Man-of-the-Match Bhuvneshwar Kumar (4/29) and Mustafizur Rahman (1/19). Raina cracked 75 but others struggled against the impressive bowling performance from Hyderabad.

After Warner won the toss and elected to bowl against, Gujarat got off to a strong start despite losing Australian opening batsman Aaron Finch early.

Finch, who had scores of 74, 50 and 67 not out respectively in the first three matches, lost his wicket for a duck. The right-hander missed the line as an incoming delivery from Bhuvneshawar disturbed his stumps.

Raina dominated the 56-run second-wicket stand with Brendon McCullum (18). Raina looked in ominous touch from the first ball he faced as his powerful front-foot push sent the ball towards the cover boundary in a flash in the first over. It was followed by a gentle straight drive which also had the same result.

Left-arm medium pacer Barinder Sran struggled with his line, asking for punishment by bowling outside the leg stump and Raina and New Zealander McCullum were in a punishing mood.

Later, against the spinners, the left-hander Raina used his feet to nice effect — welcoming Deepak Hooda with a slap towards the cover boundary and later a hoick to the mid-wicket ropes.

Left-arm spinner Bipul Sharma ended the partnership when McCullum was holed out at mid-wicket by Hooda, as Gujarat reached 56/2 in 7.2 overs.

Gujarat then lost Dinesh Karthik (8) and Dwayne Bravo (8) fell cheaply. Karthik offered a catch to Bipul at deep square leg off a full toss from off-spinner Hooda, while Bravo failed to negotiate a slower ball from Sran only to be caught by Bhuvneshwar at deep square leg. Following Bravo’s departure, Gujarat were 91 for four in 13.1 overs.

Meanwhile Raina completed his fifty in 34 deliveries as the run rate dropped due to the quick wickets.

All-rounder Jadeja, who returned to the team after missing a game due to his marriage, shared a 26-run stand with Raina until Bangladesh left-arm pacer Mustafizur dismissed the former (14).

Mustafizur continued to be impressive with his death-overs bowling as he conceded only 19 runs in his four overs.

In the final over, Bhuvneshwar conceded only six runs while picking three wickets as the hosts struggled to score 135/8.

Brief scores: Gujarat Lions: 135/8 (Suresh Raina 75; Bhuvneshwar Kumar 4/29). Sunrisers Hyderabad: 137/0 in 14.5 overs (David Warner 74 not out, Shikhar Dhawan 53 not out).

15 dead in landslide in Tawang, PM expresses grief

April 22, 2016 by Nasheman

Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar: At least 15 people lost their lives and several others were missing when a massive landslide triggered by heavy rains hit a labour camp in Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh on Friday.

15 bodies have been retrieved from the spot along with one injured person, official sources said.  Two other workers are feared to be trapped in the debris.

The incident occurred at around 3.30 AM when 17 labourers engaged in construction work were inside the camp in Thamla, about four km away from Tawang town, bordering China, Additional Deputy Commissioner (headquarters) Lod Gambo said.

Senior officers are on the spot and rescue and relief operation was on.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the loss of lives. In a message, the Prime Minister extended his condolences to the bereaved families.
The district administration deployed men and materials in the rescue operation, including two JCBs.

The PWD road between New Lebrang and government higher secondary school has also been blocked due to landslide while damage to residential buildings has been reported from the area.

Heavy rainfall in the past few days in the district resulted in a flood like situation which severely damaged the Kitpi Ph-I and Ph-II hydel projects.

Power department officials said restoration work could not be started due to the continuous rains and both the power stations had been shut down.

Taking serious note of the situation, DC Duly Kamduk has directed the department to assess the damage and submit a report for action.

SC stays HC order on President’s rule in Uttarakhand till Apr 27

April 22, 2016 by Nasheman

Uttarakhand

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today stayed till April 27 the judgement of the Uttarakhand High Court quashing the imposition of President’s rule, giving a new turn to the continuing political drama in the state by restoring the Central rule there.

Before passing a brief order, a bench comprising Justices Dipak Misra and Shiva Kirti Singh recorded an undertaking given by Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi that the “Union of India shall not revoke the Presidential proclamation till the next date of hearing”.

The apex court clarified that it was keeping in abeyance the judgement of the High Court till the next date of hearing on April 27 as a measure of balance for both the parties as the copy of the verdict was not made available to the parties.

While listing the matter for hearing on April 27, the bench said that the High Court shall provide the judgement passed yesterday to the parties by April 26 and on the same date the copy of the verdict shall also be placed before the apex court.

The Supreme Court’s stay has the effect of undoing the revival of the Congress government led by Harish Rawat by the High Court judgement yesterday.

During the hearing, the bench also observed that as a matter of propriety the High Court should have signed the verdict so that it would be appropriate for it to go into the appeal.

The apex court issued notice to Harish Rawat and Chief Seceretary of the state on the petition by Centre challenging the quashing of Presidential proclamation under Article 356 of the Constitution in the state.

Appearing for the Centre, Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi, along with senior advocate Harish Salve, pressed for the stay of the HC judgement.

He said how one party can be put at advantage and assume the office of Chief Minister when the other party is pushed to disadvantage in the absence of the judgement.

Senior advocates Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Kapil Sibal, appearing for Rawat and the Assembly Speaker, argued hard against the passing of any interim order saying “you are allowing the appeal by giving the stay”.

Sibal was of the view that allowing stay of operation of the High Court verdict would be like enforcing the proclamation of the President rule.

During the jam-packed hearing, the bench sought to pacify both the parties saying that it has to take a balanced view as this is a Constitutional court.

“We will take on record the copy of the judgement and go through it. This matter may go to Constitution bench,” the bench said.

Hitmen hired by Hindutva group may have killed Kalburgi, say CID officials

April 22, 2016 by Nasheman

M M Kalburgi

Bengaluru: Sources in the Criminal Investigation Department, which is probing the murder case of Kannada scholar MM Kalburgi said that supari killers, hired by a Hindutva group might have committed the crime.

CID officials said 20 such Hindutva groups were under surveillance over the past three months, and they are now close to cracking the identity of the group. However, they refused to comment further on the issue as it could hamper the probe.

CID sources said they had been working on the theory that hired hitmen shot down Kalburgi at his Kalyan Nagar residence in Dharwad on August 30 last year. When quizzed whether the new lead meant the sleuths had zeroed in on the group involved in the murder, the official said they were close to cracking the identity of the killers. The official also said they believed the same group and probably the same hit men may have been involved in the murders of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar and social activist Govind Pansare.

The basis for this, sleuths said, was the ballistic report of the bullets used in the Kalburgi murder that linked the weapon used in the two earlier assassinations. If proved right, it would be contrary to the arrests made by the Maharashtra police in the two murders. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Pansare murder case, had arrested Samir Gaikwad, an alleged activist from Goa-based Sanatan Sanstha, for the murder. The police are on the lookout for another absconding accused, Rudra Patil, in the case.

All officials involved in the probe, led by Inspector-General of Police Hemanth Nimbalkar, have been camping in Dharwad for the past two days. They even visited the house of the slain scholar on Thursday. Officials said they wanted to verify certain information with the family members, but beyond that the visit was a courtesy one.

Mr. Nimbalkar said they reviewed the probe into the case in the light of the new leads, and brainstormed over the next course of action. This is the first such meeting in recent months.

Bangalore-based physicist designs a calendar showing dates from time immemorial to eternity

April 22, 2016 by Nasheman

Today is Prophet’s Birthday according to solar Calendar, Prophet being historical figure, now you can easily relate the major events in his life, with exact date, without any ambiguity.

dr.Ameen photo

The way we think about human history is limited. Over the eons, different cultures and people have held different beliefs about history and most of it is somewhat skewed. In other words, historians are still trying to reach a consensus over the earliest known documented event in human history.

Dr. Mazharul Ameen, a Bangalore-based Physicist, who obtained his Doctoral Degree in Physics from The International University, California, USA, has designed a unique calendar, which shows the exact dates from time immemorial to eternity.

calender book cover page

Dr. Ameen says the present Gregorian calendar, which came into effect in 1582 AD, fails to provide the exact dates for the previous centuries. Instead, it provides the approximate ones.

In a quest to fill this scientific void, Dr. Ameen took up the research work, wherein he has rectified all the discrepancies and formulated his ‘World’s Eternal Ameen Calendar’ or ‘Ameen Calendar’, in short.

The calendar shows the exact dates from 01/01/0001 AD till date and extends till eternity.

The authenticity and collateral proof of ‘Ameen Calendar’ are evident from the famous American Mathematician Steve Dinh, who has proved 01/01/0001 AD as Monday by mathematical calculations. His calendar bears testimony with his calculation of days between 01.01.0001 CE and 31.12.2015 C E as 7,35,963. Similarly, the other dates can be proved, Dr. Ameen asserts.

Source of Inspiration

It was the inability to find the exact date of birth of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and dates of other historical figures and significant events that led to the formulation of ‘Ameen Calendar’.

The ‘Numeric Biography’ of the Prophet is an extract of this calendar between the years 571 CE and 632 CE, which corresponds to 53 BH (Before Hijri) and 11 AH (After Hijri). In this book, every alternate page represents a Hijri year and the events that took place in that year is recorded in its consecutive page.

Based on his research, Dr. Ameen says he has found the Prophet’s exact date of birth as Monday the 22nd April 571 CE and his date of passing away as Monday 11th June 632 CE.

‘Ameen Calendar’ is concised to 400 pages for convenience, where each page represents a number of years of both BC and AD era.

Mumbai Indians thrash Bangalore by six wickets in IPL

April 21, 2016 by Nasheman

Cricket

Mumbai: Leading from the front, skipper Rohit Sharma smashed 62 off just 44 balls to guide Mumbai Indians to a comfortable six-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the Wankhede Stadium here on Wednesday.

Batting first, Bangalore managed 170/7 in 20 overs. Travis Head (37) was the top scorer for the side.

In reply, riding on Rohit’s innings and Kieron Pollard’s quick-fire unbeaten 19-ball 39, defending champions Mumbai chased down the total easily as they posted 171/4 in 18 overs to bag their second win of the season.

Iqbal Abdulla (3-40) was the pick of the bowlers for Bangalore.

Chasing a challenging target of 171, Mumbai got off to a poor start, losing opener Parthiv Patel (5) in the second over itself.

But his opening partner Rohit Sharma and incoming Ambati Rayudu (31) held on to score at a good pace without losing any further wickets to score 51/1 after the completion of the powerplay.

As Rayudu was looking set after striking five boundaries, off-spinner Iqbal Abdulla scripted the much-needed breakthrough for the visitors, removing the right-handed batsman to put Mumbai at 82/2 in the 11th over.

The duo struck a 76-run partnership for the second wicket.

Despite the fall of wicket at the other end, skipper Rohit used his experience to best effect to bring up his half century in 38 balls and keep the hosts on course towards the run chase.

But Abdulla struck for the second time to dismiss Rohit in the 13th over to put Bangalore back into the game. Mumbai were 109/3 at his point of the game.

New batsmen Kieron Pollard and Jos Buttler (13) held on for a couple of overs before the latter gave his wicket away in the 16th over.

But Pollard, who failed to impress in earlier matches, came up with a quick-fire knock, smashing four boundaries and three sixes to steer his team to second victory in the IPL-9.

Earlier put into bat, the visitors got off to a flying start, scoring 49 for the loss of one wicket after the completion of powerplay.

K.L. Rahul took the initiative at the start, smashing two fours and two sixes for his 14-ball 23, but the right-handed batsman fell in the fourth over to the bowling of Mitchell McClenaghan to give Mumbai their first breakthrough.

But the wicket did not stop incoming batsman AB de Villiers (29) and opener Virat Kohli (33) from playing their natural game.

The duo, who in the previous season smashed an unbeaten 215-run partnership at this venue against the same opposition, made batting look simple, piling on boundaries and sneaking in with twos at regular intervals to bring up a 50-run partnership for the second wicket in just 35 balls and help the team post 89/1 in 10 overs.

But the 11th over of the Bangalore innings saw a big twist in the game as off-spinner Krunal Pandya dismissed in-form Kohli (caught at long-off) followed by De Villiers (stumped) to bring Mumbai back into the game.

Bangalore, after the two quick blows, were reduced to 93/3.

Incoming batsman Shane Watson (5) too didn’t last long. Trying to guide an outside off stump delivery to third man, he eventually got a thin edge which was grabbed well by wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel.

Young Sarfaraz Khan (28) and Head held on to guide the team to 112/4 after the completion of 15 overs.

The right- and left-handed batting duo played sensibly to put up a much needed 50-run partnership for the fifth wicket in just 30 balls.

Jasprit Bumrah (3-31) and Krunal Pandya (2-27) were the pick of the bowlers for Mumbai.

Fresh claims on Bachchan in ‘Panama Papers’, equally fresh denial

April 21, 2016 by Nasheman

Bachchan Panama Papers

New Delhi: Even as a fresh report on the “Panama Papers” alleged Amitabh Bachchan “participated” in board meetings of two off-shore companies “by telephone conference”, the actor himself has said his name was “misused” and that nothing illegal has been attributed to him.

The Indian Express reported on Thursday that Sea Bulk Shipping and Tramp Shipping had passed a resolution each on December 12, 1994, in connection with a loan of $1.75 million from Dallah Albaraka Investment Company.

The loan was for Constellation Ship Management for the purchase of all the shares issued by Tramp Shipping and held by Sea Bulk Shipping. Besides Tramp and Sea Bulk, the paper had said Bachchan was managing director for two other offshore entities — Lady Shipping and Treasure Shipping.

“Both resolutions recorded Bachchan’s participation in board meetings ‘by telephone conference’. In their certificate of incumbency issued the same day, both companies also recorded Bachchan as director. The companies had the same directors, including Bachchan, and officers,” it said.

In response, Bachchan’s office sent a rejoinder, which was also posted on his twitter account.

“On Panama disclosures, I wish to state that queries continue to be sent to me by the media. I would humbly request them to kindly direct these to the GOI (Government of India) where I, as a law abiding citizen, have already sent, and shall continue to send, my responses,” the post said.

“I stand by my earlier statement on the ‘misuse of my name’ in the matter and in any event the press reports do not disclose any illegal act committed by me.”

The Indian Express, based on Mossack Fonseca records, said Umesh Sahai of Jersey-based corporate service provider City Management (now Minerva Trust) was one of the founder-directors of the four shipping companies and that he had appointed Bachchan as director and managing director in 1993.

“He (Sahai) also signed the board resolutions that recorded Bachchan’s participation in the December 12, 1994, meetings. Sahai did not respond to emails and phone calls seeking his comment on Bachchan’s statement denying any knowledge of the companies,” the newspaper said.

Bachchan’s name cropped up in the reports as part of a global expose of International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) and over 100 global media organisations, based on millions of leaked documents of the Panama law firm Mossak Fonseca.

A high-level probe team has been constituted, with members drawn from the various agencies of the finance ministry and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) based on the orders issued by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Indian authorities have already said not all off-shore funds need be illegitimate.

High Court quashes President’s rule in Uttarakhand; floor test on April 29

April 21, 2016 by Nasheman

Uttarakhand

Nainital: In a big setback for the Centre, the Uttarakhand high court on Thursday set aside President’s rule that was imposed in the state on March 27.

The court added that the material considered for the imposition of President’s rule is ‘wanting.’ It has called for a floor test in the Assembly on April 29.

The HC’s order came on a plea by ousted chief minister Harish Rawat, who had challenged this imposition.

The high court had earlier criticized the Centre for imposing President’s Rule a day before a floor test was to be held in the assembly.

The Uttarakhand High Court on Wednesday said that the president of India is not infallible and he, too, can go wrong. Therefore, the President’s decision is open to judicial scrutiny.

“Absolute power can spoil anybody’s mind. Even the president can go wrong and in such cases his decisions can be subjected to scrutiny. Indian courts have the power to scrutinize all orders,” the court said.

Court are exceeding their constitutional mandate with such grave observations on the president and are setting dangerous precedents.
Mahendra Varma

Uttarakhand plunged into a political crisis when nine Congress legislators, including former chief minister Vijay Bahuguna, whom Rawat replaced, revolted against the chief minister and turned to the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for support.

In the 70-member assembly, the Congress has 36 legislators, including the nine rebels. The BJP has 28. The other six members, from smaller parties, are said to support the Congress.

Hoax bomb threat in Jet Airways flight: one passenger detained

April 20, 2016 by Nasheman

Jet Airways

Ahmedabad: A Jet Airways Mumbai-Ahmedabad -Mumbai flight carrying 125 passengers and six crew members was today delayed after a bomb scare, which later turned out to be a hoax even as one person was detained after a chit with “bomb” written on it was recovered from under his seat.

The flight from Mumbai to Ahmedabad was taken to the isolation bay immediately after it landed here this morning due to the bomb scare.

According to police, one of the cleaning staff while preparing the flight for the next trip found a “chit” with “bomb” scribbled on it under one of the seats after which authorities were informed. The aircraft was then taken to an isolation bay where it was throughly checked by police and bomb disposal squad.

“When the cleaning staffers were making the flight ready for the next trip, one of them found a chit beneath a passenger seat,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police, ‘G’ division, J N Parmar, who along with other policemen, Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and dog squad rushed to the spot.

“The word ‘bomb’ was written on the chit. As passengers had already alighted, it was difficult for us to trace as to who left it. Hence, we have detained one passenger for questioning under whose seat the chit was found,” he said.

“Bomb squad as well as dog squad inspected the entire aircraft. Nothing suspicious was found,” the officer added. Meanwhile, police have started questioning of the passenger, who has been detained. “We have zeroed in on one passenger and started his questioning,” DCP, Zone 4, S K Gadhvi said without revealing the name of the accused.

The flight had to carry 125 passengers and six crew members from Ahmedabad to Mumbai for the next trip which was delayed by two hours after a bomb scare here.

Earlier, a Jet Airways spokesperson said the search yielded nothing and the aircraft has been cleared for further journey. “Jet Airways flight S2 4738 Ahmedabad to Mumbai had received a security alert. The aircraft was thoroughly inspected by the security agencies and the flight with 125 guests and six crew on-board has now been cleared for its onward operations,” the spokesperson said.

Director duo Harish Kotian & Sandeep Chaudhary’s upcoming film Love Day – Pyaar Ke Din has been in the news and raising quite a few eyebrows because of the double entendre sounding title of the film. So much so that the film’s maker had to add a tagline to the title so now the film’s title stands as Love Day – Pyaar Ka Din. But one of the directors Harish Kotian avers, “I wonder why the film’s title is raising quite a few eyebrows whenever it is mentioned. But in reality, Love day is a fun film about 3 friends and the naughty and hilarious situations they face. It is a comic oriented rollercoaster ride which will be quite entertaining for the cine goers. And the Hindi sounding tagline was always there. We never added it to camouflage the erotic sounding English title.”

Be that as it may be Shaheen Raaj recently had a telephonic encounter with the two wannabe actors Harsh Naagar & Sahil Anand and the most talked about actor namely Ajaz Khan.

Ajaz Khan: I have done many films in my career till this date but my role in Rajlaxmi Entertainment’s Love Day – Pyaar Ka Din is quite an entertaining one although I pay a baddie once again after my baddie’s role in Shubbir Mukherjee’s Club Dancer. This is a hilarious fun ride about 3 friends but with quite a comic twist seeing which the cine goers will die laughing. And it is for the 1st time that I am working with director Jodi namely Harish Kotian & Sandeep Choudhary. And yeah I have also displayed my assets by wearing undies on the silver screen celluloid for the 1st time along with my 2 co – actor’s Harsh Naagar & Sahil Anand. The movie largely centres around my bad boy character and how the bad boy image lands me & my friends into trouble. Besides I play a total womaniser in this one. My antics bring upon me & my friends some dire consequences.

Sahil Anand: I am from Chandigarh and was a part of the reality show MTV Roadies and started my career from there. I have done around 35 TV commercials. My 1st movie was Student Of The year then I did Babloo Happy Hai and now my next upcoming movie is Love Day – Pyaar Ke Din. It’s a story about real friendship between 3 friends which I think doesn’t exist nowadays, away from materialism and any purpose. Love Day – Pyaar Ke Din will revive the concept of friendship which we used to have when we were in school. In fact Love Day – Pyaar Ke Din is a journey from childhood to older age showing the various stages of friendship & togetherness. I loved & enjoyed working with Harsh Naagar & Ajaz Khan who were superb. I also had great fun while shooting with both of them and besides we all went so much deep in the character that now we are all thick & fast friends, that apart Ajaz Khan also helped us to be more comfortable while doing some of the bold & daring scenes in Love Day – Pyaar Ke Din and hats off to our director Harish Kotian & Sandeep Chaudhary for making a superb film and due credit also goes to our cinematographer Amit and above all our producer Baldev Singh Bedi.

Harsh Naagar: Originally I hail from a theatre background. I had made my debut with Alway Kabhie Kabhie. Then I had done a film called The Wedding Gift. And now my upcoming movie is Love Day – Pyaar Ke Din which was originally scheduled to be released on Valentine’s Day (14th Feb, 2016) but due to unavoidable circumstances it is scheduled to release very soon. In Love Day – Pyaar ke Din I have enacted the role of one of the two friends namely Ajaz Khan & Saahil Anand. All three of us get involved in pranks and mischievous bouts and as a result all three of us have to face dire consequences. A lot of hoo haa was raised when the 3 of us had to perform a brief undy scene which was an essential part of the script of Love Day – Pyaar Ke Din. It was a real enriching experience while working with Ajaz Khan and also Saahil Anand and I would also like to extend my humble thanks to my director duo Harish Kotian & Sandeepm Chaudhary, to the entire cast & crew, and above all to our producer Baldev Singh Bedi.
