PM has time only for rich businessmen Not For Farmers: Rahul attacks Modi

June 11, 2018 by Nasheman

Rahul’s fresh attack against Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his silence on the ongoing farmers’ agitation, Congress president Rahul Gandhi accused the Modi government of only helping the industrialists. “The Prime Minister has never paid the farmers a rupee for their work. You will never see a farmer in his office. The farmers will scream and protest, but he will have time for the rich businessmen,” Gandhi said, addressing the national OBC convention in Delhi.

Stressing that “India doesn’t reward people who have the skills,” Gandhi said, “People who actually work in India are behind the scenes. In our country, one person works and the other gains the benefit. While one has the talent, other walks away with the credit.”

Taking a dig at the flagship projects of the BJP like Make in India, Skill India, Gandhi said, “Modiji says that the country is short of skills. This is not true. The truth is that your talent is not being brought to light.” Adding that many farmers and labourers are not getting any results for their skills, Gandhi said that the Congress party will open its doors for people from all sections of the society.

He also accused the BJP of running the government according to the wishes of a “selected few leaders and the RSS.” “India has become a slave to few leaders of BJP and RSS. Everyone including MPs is afraid to speak. Most them are not allowed to speak. And those of us who do speak, the BJP does not listen to. Only RSS is given a hearing,” Gandhi said, adding that the united Opposition will show PM Modi and Amit Shah that the country can only be run by its people.

Rahul Gandhi also claimed that the non-performing assets of banks have gone up to Rs 1,000 crore. “Rs 2.5 lakh crore were given to 15 industrialists. But the farmer got nothing…the loan waiver was for 15 people but not for the farmer who continues to commit suicide… his children keep crying,” Gandhi said.

June 9, 2018 by Nasheman

The Election Commission (EC) has called Congress’ allegations of large-scale errors in Madhya Pradesh’s

June 9, 2018 by Nasheman

In its letter to the Congress dated June 8, the commission said “from the evidence collected from the ground and the analysis of data made available with the complaint suggest that the claim of large scale duplicate, repeat, multiple, illegal, invalid, false etc entries/voters in the electoral rolls of Madhya Pradesh is not based on robust parameter and is not correct”.

It had “immediately” formed inter disciplinary teams to four Assembly constituencies — Narela, Hoshangabad, Bhojpur and Seoni-Malwa — which were shortlisted randomly from the list mentioned in the complaint on June 3.

The EC has also instructed the Chief Electoral Officer of the state to carry out “intensive verification” of the complaint in all other constituencies in a time-bound manner.

As per the reports submitted by the inter disciplinary teams, 2,397 of 2,442 entries in Seoni-Malwa alleged by the Congress to be similar were found to be genuine and 45 entries were in the process of deletion.

In Narela constituency, of 22,252 entries cited in the Congress complaint, 17,684 were found to be unique.

In Hoshangabad, no case of multiple entry was found on verification of alleged 552 incorrect entries while the EC teams found 29 of 36 cases were genuine and the process of deletion was on for the rest seven.

The commission concluded that the “allegation of large scale entries of multiple voters in these four Assembly Constituencies in not borne out”.

“In addition to the complaint of duplication in the voters’ list, it was pointed out that there has been unexplained growth in the electors in the state of Madhya Pradesh as the EP (elector population) ratio which used to be 52.76 per cent in 2008 increased to 61.45 per cent in 2018.

“This has been seen from the perspective of census data and annual increase in the numbers of the electoral roll and nothing unusual could be noticed,” reads the letter.

“From this, it can be safely concluded that there is no basis to dispute the current electoral roll.”

Phamous

“Phamous Is Nothing But Boredom Of The 1st Order”

Banner: Raj Khatri Filmz & Om Reels
Producers: Raj Khatri, Amitabh Chandra, Sumeet Jawdekar & Nivedita Kothare
Director: Karan Lalit Bhtani
Star Cast: Jimmy Shergil, Shreya Sharan, Kay Kay Menon, Pankaj tripathi, Jackie Shroff, Mahie Gill, Brijendra Kala & Jameel Khan
Music: Krsna Solo, Sandeep Goswami, Surya Vishwakarma & Akash Prajapati

Debutante director Karan Lalit Butani has been a film critic since the last one and a half decade and has been reviewing films. He also writes on music, art & culture, and other human interest stories and yet in his directorial debut in Phamous he has come up with a beaten to death shoddy revenge drama which in itself is an insult to today’s advanced audiences intelligence. Stay away as Phamous is nothing but 2 hours of “sheer” torture.

The scripted scenario of Phamous opens with Shambhu (Jackie Shroff), Kadak Singh (Kay Kay Menon), Ram Vijay (Pankaj Tripathi) & Radhe (Jimmy Sheirgill), who belong to a hamlet which abounds in power-hungry, unscrupulous & depraved men who get away with murder. In 1 such ill-fated incident Shambhu’s daughter is being forcibly taken away by Ram Vijay & Shambhu opens fire to prevent him from kidnapping his daughter, but lands up in prison for accidentally shooting his daughter dead. Some years later, Radhe who was a kid when the incident took place, grows up & dreams of having his own clout in the area. He respects Kadak Singh, who along with Ram Vijay has dubious plans of becoming an MP or an MLA respectively. But when Ram Vijay sets his lecherous eyes on Radhe’s wife Lalli (Shriya Saran), Radhe has to make a choice: should he protect his honor and teach a lesson to Vijay, or continue to play up to Kadak Singh for further personal gains?

From there on, the story ends up either in the culmination of power game or becomes a beaten to death revenge drama. It doesn’t disappoint you for it becomes both as Shambhu gets freed from jail and a young Radhe’s blood boils when his wife gets kidnapped by Vijay. Together they lust for Vijay’s blood. But For all those who have grown up in the ’60s & ’70s, the typical Bollywood films with a daku (dacoit) in the central role were aplenty. And so one has seen the usual moustachioed burly hero who would time & again roar loudly but only if he saw anything going wrong. Yet unmistakably, he had a heart of gold, and was projected as the noble Indian Robinhood.

Yet in the present, when slice-of-life themes rule, such films will rarely find acceptance unless they are mounted on a large scale, or cut the mumbo jumbo and tell a tale with much gusto & a grand fanfare. Therefore, amongst the present lot of directors, there’s a rare Paan Singh Tomar or a Bandit Queen that have won our hearts for their honest portrayal of bandits of the hinterland.

Director Karan Lalit Bhutani’s Phamous (note the “Ph” that the title of the film uses as a Hindi alphabet) is set in the badlands of the Chambal region of Madhya Pradesh with a power struggle between its 4 principal characters forming the crux of its story. Narratively, the film feels both underdeveloped & overwrought, its script guessable and its climax in the rocky countryside most idiotic. Everything looks like a frantic effort to put together drama in the midst of gangsters, pistols, revenge & and mayhem with good actors delivering lines they don’t find convincing. The result is a sadly muddled finale that instead of skillfully capturing a sense of real life for characters caught in a difficult situations, takes the route of violence.

Performance wise Jackie Shroff, it seems, doesn’t really know what the storyline is and tries to fit in hesitatingly. Kay Kay Menon looks desperate enough to hog all the limelight and tries to mouth all his lines menacingly. Whereas Jimmy Sheirgill struggles on to stay young alternating his looks between young & middle-aged in an ill-fitting wig. His role doesn’t give him enough possibility to perform, and it is his poorly written role that he has to struggle with the most. If there’s one actor who takes his character seriously it is Pankaj Tripathi who, even in the silliest of scenes, outshines whosoever & whatsoever is in the frame, and emerges the most engaging character on the celluloid silver screen.

Tail Piece: Give it a miss! But watch it for the 5 and a half scenes of Pankaj Tripathi, if you must!

At the Box-Office turnstiles Phamous stands no chance of winning the race. And will not be famous. Period!!!

RGV’s Technical Sense Is Great
“Ram Gopal Varma’s sense of editing, using the sound and playing with the background score is phenomenal,” Nagarjuna averred recently, interacting with the media. “When Shiva was released, it was hailed as a great mono track. In the age of digital sounds, you can imagine how great the experience of ‘Ocer’ is going to be. The kind of shots that RGV is known for, it’s important to get the sound right. In ‘Ocer’, when someone is kicked, the kick can be felt literally,” Nag noted with a trace of pride. “No matter how well we do a film, satisfaction is there only if the audiences accept it,” Nag said. RGV described himself as a wild horse in terms of his profession. “But on Twitter, I am a wild monkey,” he joked. “This film will give 100% new experience to the audiences. We chose ‘Ocer’ as the title because both the hero & the villain are ocers. A title like Shivaji would have been vague,” RGV said.

Schools, colleges shut in rain-hit coastal Karnataka

June 9, 2018 by Nasheman

Schools and colleges have been shut in the coastal districts of Karnataka on Saturday due to heavy monsoon rains lashing the region, officials said.

The coastal districts of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada and south interior districts of Kodagu, Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru have been receiving heavy rainfall over the last few days due to an active Southwest monsoon in the state.

“All the schools and colleges in the district were given a holiday on Saturday as a precautionary measure due to heavy rains,” an official from Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner’s office told IANS over phone.

According to the data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the coastal districts of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada received an average of over seven cm rainfall.

The Southwest monsoon, which set in the southern state on June 4, has been causing widespread rains in coastal and south interior regions, IMD Bengaluru centre’s forecast-in-charge C.S. Patil told IANS earlier.

The pre-monsoon rains, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, wrecked havoc in the state inundating low-lying areas, uprooting trees and snapping power lines and damaging roads in coastal, central and south interior districts over the last week.

The Met Office has also issued heavy rainfall alert in the coastal districts over the next few days.

“Sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough over the Arabian Sea. Fishermen are advised to be cautious while venturing into sea off the Karnataka coast,” an IMD advisory said.

Moderate to heavy rainfall is likely to continue over coastal districts and south interior districts, it added.

The state capital Bengaluru has received light rainfall measuring upto three mm till 8.30 a.m. on Saturday. The weather office predicts light rainfall to continue in the city over the next few days.

Women’s Asia Cup: India outclass Pakistan to reach finals

June 9, 2018 by Nasheman

Six-time champions India once again stormed into the finals of the Women’s Asia Cup after thrashing arch-rivals Pakistan by seven wickets in their last league encounter at the Kinrara Academy Oval here on Saturday.

Electing to bat, Pakistan folded up for a meager 72/7 with Sana Mir (20 not out) and Nahida Khan (18) managing to reach the double figures in a lackluster batting effort.

In response, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (34 not out) and her deputy Smriti Mandhana (38) steered the Indians to a comfortable victory with 23 balls to spare after starting on a shaky note.

Earlier, left-arm spinner Ekta Bisht spun a web around the Pakistanis with three wickets and was well assisted by the other Indian bowlers who stuck to a disciplined effort.

During their chase, India too got off to a forgettable start, losing former skipper Mithali Raj and Deepti Sharma for ducks with the scoreboard ticking 5/2.

But thereafter the defending champions did not look back as the left-right combo of Smriti and Harmanpreet forged a brilliant 65-run third wicket stand to take the side within sniffing distance of victory.

Table toppers India (8 points) will now have to wait for the final league match between Bangladesh women and hosts Malaysia later in the day, to find their opponents for Sunday’s summit clash.

On the other hand, second-placed Pakistan, with six points in their kitty will desperately hope for an upset by Malaysia over Bangladesh (also on 6 points) to bag a place in the final.

Men’s Hockey Champions Trophy Breda 2018 at Breda, Netherlands

Just ten days to go before the team leaves for Netherlands on 18 June

Saturday afternoon saw the Indian Men’s Hockey Team slug it out in overcast conditions here at the Sports Authority of India, Bengaluru Campus. The drills were intense but the focus remained on basics.

After the 18-member national squad was announced last week, the Indian team under Chief Coach Harendra Singh has upped the ante knowing well that the Rabobank Men’s Hockey Champions Trophy Breda 2018, with world’s top teams including Olympic Champions Argentina, defending World Champions Australia, World No.3 Belgium, hosts Netherlands and Pakistan in fray for the title, offers the right platform to test themselves ahead of the prestigious Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup Bhubaneswar 2018.

The 2018 Men’s Hockey Champions Trophy will be the 37th and last edition of the Hockey Champions Trophy for men. It will be held from 23 June to 1 July 2018 in Breda, Netherlands.

At the camp in Bengaluru, the focus has remained on maintaining the right structure with emphasis on team’s on-field communication, following basics to keep ball possession, front-line defence, counter control and Penalty Corner defending.

“The team has moved on from the poor performance at the Gold Coast 2018 XXI Commonwealth Games. At this camp, one of the main focus is on team’s on-field communication and re-instilling the team’s belief that we have it in us to Go for Gold. Our psychology sessions have been critical in making us believe in the team goal and Chief Coach has prepared a 20-point agenda which we read every day ahead of training sessions to remind ourselves of our aim ahead of the tournament,” expressed Indian Team’s Vice-Captain Chinglensana Singh Kangujam.

The Indian team’s inefficiency in converting field goals despite improved circle penetrations have been a concern. Goalkeeper and Captain PR Sreejesh stated that the team has paid special attention in this area over the past two weeks in the National Camp.

“We have paid a lot of attention to the positioning of forwards in the striking circle. Chief Coach has not just drawn out the position chart for the strikers and explained in theory, but has also walked them through the positioning to ensure they don’t repeat the mistakes made at 2018 CWG because of which we missed out on scoring critical goals. Front-line defence is also one of the key areas we have paid extra attention to,” Sreejesh stated.

With just ten days to go before the team leaves for the Netherlands on 18 June, Sreejesh believes the team has the calibre to finish on the top at the Rabobank Men’s Hockey Champions Trophy Breda 2018.

“We have a good team balance with experience and youth. Our preparations have been earnest and the team certainly has the calibre to finish on top provided we play our A-game and not make silly mistakes and lose out on scoring opportunities. This is the best chance to see where we stand against top teams in the world before the Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup Bhubaneswar 2018 in November-December and we need to make this opportunity count,” the Captain concluded.

The Indian Team will begin their campaign at the Rabobank Men’s Hockey Champions Trophy Breda 2018 against arch-rivals Pakistan on June 23.
