Adelaide: Australia sealed a 2-0 victory in the three-match series against New Zealand with a three-wicket win in a gripping inaugural day-night Test in Adelaide.

Set 187 to win after bowling the Kiwis out in the first session on day three, the hosts were made to work hard for every run.

Trent Boult took 5-60 but Shaun Marsh’s 49 and 28 each from Adam Voges and Mitchell Marsh proved decisive.

Josh Hazlewood took a career-best 6-70 to help dismiss New Zealand for 208.

All of the real drama, though, was reserved for the evening when, for the third day running, the extra swing of the pink ball ensured a regular fall of wickets.

Boult was the main beneficiary, adding a five-wicket haul to the 2-41 he claimed in the first innings to keep an increasingly nervous home side and crowd on edge throughout what had seemed a straightforward chase.

Hazlewood shines with pink ball

In the absence of Mitchell Starc, who has been unable to bowl or field since injuring his foot on Friday, Hazlewood came to the fore, spearheading the Australia pace attack in impressive fashion.

The 24-year-old helped the home side dominate the first session, getting them off to the best possible start by dismissing BJ Watling – caught at slip by Steve Smith – before the Kiwis had added to their overnight lead of 94.

Hazlewood completed his five-wicket haul when he had Mark Craig caught behind for 15 to leave New Zealand 140-7.

After spinner Nathan Lyon had Mitchell Santner, the innings’ top scorer with 45, stumped and all-rounder Mitchell Marsh claimed a third wicket by having Tim Southee (13) caught pulling at deep backward square, Hazlewood finished New Zealand off by bowling Boult.

Doug Bracewell was the last man standing, his 27 not out helping the visitors set a modest target of 187.

Wary of a repeat of the extra swing generated by the pink ball in the first two days of the Test, Australia set about their chase in an urgent fashion, amassing 34 runs in five and a half overs.

Their progress was checked, though, as Boult began to capitalise on the increased movement to trap Joe Burns lbw for 11.

The Kiwi seamer repeated the trick to dismiss Australia captain Steve Smith, shortly after David Warner had edged Doug Bracewell to Southee at second slip following a typically rapid 35 from 37 balls, to leave the home side vulnerable at 66-3.

Voges and Shaun Marsh steadied the ship with a resilient partnership of 49 – the third highest of a low-scoring match – before Boult struck again, dismissing the former by finding an edge that was again taken by Southee at second slip.

Marsh’s crucial innings

Having lost partner Voges, Shaun Marsh showed superb resilience to forge another important partnership with brother Mitchell.

The pair put on 46, taking Australia to within 26 runs of victory before Mitchell departed, caught off a top-edge by Kane Williamson from the bowling of Mitchell Santner.

Shaun Marsh added 15 more crucial runs with Peter Nevill before he too fell, caught at slip off Boult, to silence the crowd and bring Peter Siddle to the crease.

Boult provided one more twist, getting Nevill to nick one to a diving BJ Watling, but Siddle and the limping Starc finally saw Australia home.

Stockholm Film Festival Win For Leena Yadav’s ‘Parched’

Director Leena Yadav’s Ajay Devgn produced film ‘Parched’ has won the inaugural Impact Award at the prestigious Stockholm International Film Festival, also becoming the 1st Indian film to do so. What’s more, the very 1st Impact Awards introduced this year at the acclaimed film festival also boasts of the biggest cash prize for a film in the world. After a tremendous response at its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year, ‘Parched’ wowed the jury at the Stockholm Film Festival to add yet another laurel to the film starring Tannishtha Chatterjee, Radhika Apte, Surveen Chawla & Adil Hussain. The prize was announced by noted Chinese artist Ai Weiwei, who presided over the Impact jury comprising renowned names – Swedish theatre director Linus Tunstrom & Iranian film director Ida Panahandeh (‘Nahid’). Interestingly the film was also screened at the Camerimage Festival in Poland, which is the only festival that celebrates Cinematography. With this another honour was added to the film as only very few Indian films have played at the Camerimage ever.

Osianama’s Rare Movie Metropolis Memorabilia On Display

Believed to be one of the few in existence, not long ago, the rare German Metropolis movie poster was auctioned for $850,000 in US. The rare Fritz Lang’ silent masterpiece Metropolis designed by German graphic artist Heinz Sehulzneudamm fetched a record of $850,000. The same design minus the German writing with the clean lines & delicate shading was purchased for $690,000 by actor Leonardo Di Caprio. The French version of the Metropolis poster designed by Boris Bilinsky standing 94 inches tall & 126 inches wide is one of the sought after and the first Metropolis poster to be displayed in India. Interestingly, in 1927, Bilinsky, a prolific cinema poster artist was commissioned by the French Distribution Company L’Allaince Cinematographique Europeenne (ACE) to design posters and publicity material for the French release of Metropolis. This major commission resulted in 4 one of its kind posters for the film. The current poster is from the said collection. According to the award-winning Bilinsky’s grandson, it is impossible to know the number of posters designed by him in his career spanning two and a half decades. The artist died at a young age of 47. Bilinsky’s grandson has now discovered over 50 posters of the artist in existence and that makes the current Metropolis poster all the more an unmisseable view. Along with the coveted Metropolis poster is the collection of Robern Wiene’s 1920 silent German film Cabinet of Dr.Caligari. The design by Hermann Warm Walter Reimann & Walter Rohrig is in a fantastic graphic style. This film also marks the real origins of Peguin who has now become a cult character with Batman!

‘Pyaasa’ Was The Opening film In The “Indian Classics” Section At The 46th International Film Festival Of India

‘Pyaasa’ a 1957 cult classic of Indian cinema opened in the “ Indian Classics” section in the 46th International Film Festival of India 2015,Goa. The “Indian Classic section” in IFFI had 8 more films that were screened in this segment in the “Open Air Screening” format. The other films screened in this division were Jait re Jait, Manthan, Bhavani Bhavai, Is Raat ki Subaah Nahi, Uttarayanam, Ek Din Achanak, Ajantrik & Do Bigha Zameen. Recently Pyaasa became the 1st Indian film restored by an Indian company for a world premiere in the competition section at the 72nd Venice Film Festival. It competed with 20 other prestigious restored films from all over the world and received a spectacular response from the audiences. Pyaasa was also screened in the “restored classics” section in the recently concluded “17th Jio MAMI Mumbai” Film Festival. Ultra also will be re – releasing the film theatrically worldwide after this festival. The “Indian Classics” section is dedicated to film makers who have had a distinctive & unique style of filmmaking and whose films had an original yet a universal theme to appeal across all demographics. Farah Khan Honoured

Farah Khan was conferred with ‘Faten Hamama Excellence Award’ (for excellence in Indian cinema) at the on-going 37th Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF). As a special tribute, this year’s coveted 10-day film festival honours the works of late Egyptian icons Faten Hamama, Nourel-Sheriff and Omar Sharif – all of whom passed away in the past year. It’s going to be a double whammy for Farah who’s eagerly looking forward to attend the film festival. Besides being felicitated at the CIFF, the organizers have also planned a big premiere of one of her most successful films – Om Shanti Om (OSO) to be attended by the who’s who of the Egyptian film industry. In addition to that, there will be performances of Farah’s songs to welcome her on stage. The opening night of the festival had a huge screen playing the montage of OSO.

Movie Review: ‘Tamasha’ is like a one big tight slap on viewer’s face

Director Imtiaz Ali’s last fame to glory was a Randeep Hooda & Alia Bhatt starrer Highway. It had garnered rave reviews in tandem with a decent commercial success. But his latest uptake in Tamasha, director Imtiaz Ali indeed seems to be living in a fool’s paradise as he has ended up making a fool of the entire fraternity of viewers who have dared to witness this unnecessary & uncalled for tamasha. The movie Tamasha is like one big tamacha (tight slap) on the audiences face. Need I say anything more?

The plotted scenario of Tamacha starts off with the onstage robotic ‘introduction’ of Ved Vardhan Sahni (Ranbir Kapoor). The story then gets into a flashback mode wherein the audiences are introduced to the childhood of Ved, who gets mesmerized & enchanted by stories. The ‘impact’ of these stories told during his childhood is so huge that it starts hampering his ‘corporate life’. The story then takes the viewers to Corsica, the place that he chooses to break free from his routine stereotyped life. It is here where he meets Tara Maheshwari (Deepika Padukone), an ‘Asterix’ crazy Indian who gets stranded in Corsica because of her lost baggage. When Ved & Tara meet, they get into an agreement that they will refrain from asking each other’s personal details and that whatever they tell each other will be only lies, and lastly, ‘what happens in Corsica, stays in Corisca’. That’s why they decide to become ‘Don’ & ‘Mona Darling’ respectively. Thus continues their journey of break free & unknown identities. And if you are still curious of what Tamacha is all about, go take a stroll in your nearest multiplex.

Director Imtiaz Ali has displayed his poorest directorial prowess in the entire span of his illustrated & checkered directorial career. The movie Tamasha lacks the punch due to its confusingly contrived storyline. One song “Matarghasti” is catchy & hummable otherwise Allah Rakha Rahman’s music is too disappointing to say the least. Need anything more be said.

Performance wise Ranbir Kapoor surprises everyone with his effortless histrionics. For a change once again Ranbir Kappor’s on screen chemistry with Deepika Padukone is electrifying. Deepika Padukone has also delivered a commendable performance. While the other actors like Javed Sheikh, Vivek Mushran, Nikhil Bhagat, Faraaz Servaia, Punam Singh, Piyush Mishra et al are adequate in their respective roles.

Tail Piece: Tamasha should be strictly avoided if you don’t wish to end up loving in a fool’s paradise.

Movie Review: ‘Spectre’ is strictly recommended only for the diehard James Bond fans

Director Sam Mendes has carried forward the legacy of the James Bond franchise in Spectre, the 24th instalment. To say that it is one of the costliest film ever made in this series would be an understatement. As usual it features Daniel Craig as the suave, gun totting, gentleman James Bond. And the additional inclusion is of actors like Christopher Waltz, Lea Seydoux, Monica Bellucci, Dave Bautista & Andrew Scott. But sadly speaking this 24th instalment comes up as one of the biggest disappointing fare.

The plotted scenario of Spectre starts off with a cryptic message from the past that sends Bond (Daniel Craig) on a rogue mission to Mexico City, where he meets Lucia (Monica Bellucci), the beautiful & the forbidden widow of an infamous criminal. Bond infiltrates a secret meeting & uncovers the existence of the sinister organization known as SPECTRE. Meanwhile back in London, Max Denbigh (Andrew Scott), the new head of the Centre of National Security, questions Bond’s actions and challenges the relevance of MI6 led by M (Ralph Fiennes). Bond covertly enlists Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) & Q (Ben Whishaw) to help him seek out Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux), the daughter of his old nemesis Mr White (Jesper Christensen), who may hold the clue to untangling the web of SPECTRE. As the daughter of the assassin, she understands Bond in a way most others cannot. As Bond ventures towards the heart of Spectre, he learns a chilling connection between himself and the enemy he seeks.
Director Sam Mendes in this particular, the 24th instalment of James Bond namely Spectre, seems to have missed the true spirit of the 007 Bond man. No doubt the film has been lavishly mounted but it is still devoid of the soul of the earlier James Bond films.

Performance wise Daniel Craig as the main protagonist focuses more on the interpersonal relationship that his character has developed over the years. No doubt he has enacted his role with finesse but the presentation of his character leaves a lot to be desired. While Christopher Walts as Bond’s arch nemesis Blofeld is not up to the mark. And Lea Seydoux springs a surprise with her sincere act. That apart Andrew Scott is perfect in his character of C. Besides all applause is also due to Dave Bautista for his brilliance oriented action role which also proves to be the one & the only highlight of the film.

Tail Piece: Spectre is strictly recommended only for the diehard James Bond Franchise fans. But of course Spectre is worth a watch, for one & all, at least once. Period!

‘Don’t bomb Syria’: Protests across the UK as Syria vote looms

Thousands of people protested in London and around Britain Saturday against Britain joining in bombing attacks on ISIS in Syria.

The UK Parliament will vote next week on whether to join with the US and France in launching air strikes on Syria. Prime Minister David Cameron is leading the push for bombing.

The UK protests are organized by the Stop The War Coalition movement, which is also holding a string of other demonstrations around Britain.

The Stop The War Coalition said in a statement: “The proposed vote in Parliament on bombing Syria by British forces is likely to take place within the next week. The vote is more likely following the terrible events in Paris. Yet this bombing will not stop terror attacks. Stop the War is opposed to this military response.”

Cameron’s previous government suffered a humiliating defeat in 2013 over launching military action against the Assad government and did not push for a vote for the UK to join in bombing Syria last year.

Current Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, who is a founder of the Stop The War Coalition, opposes air strikes.

Dear Prime Minister

The current rush to bomb Syria following the terrible events in Paris risks a dangerous escalation which will inflame the war there and increase bitterness against the West. The US has been bombing Isis for a year and admits that Isis is as strong as ever and has continued recruiting.

The experience of the wars in Afghanistan Iraq and Libya shows that Western military interventions lead to large scale casualties, devastating destruction and huge flows of refugees.

Far from tackling terrorism the last fourteen years of war have seen massively increased Jihadi terrorist organization around the world.

Rather than ignoring this recent history by joining the long list of countries that have bombed Syria in the last year we urge the government to stop arming reactionary and aggressive regimes like Saudi Arabia and Qatar that sponsor terrorist groups and look for political solutions as the only viable way to end the conflict.

No leads in Church Street blast, even a year later: NIA

Bengaluru: It has been a nearly a year since an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) killed a woman while three others were injured on the Church Street in the state capital; however the National Investigating Agency (NIA) has said that the Bengaluru police had not given them any clue that would help in getting a breakthrough in the case.

Reports have stated that there was no progress in investigations even though suspects were questioned.

The city police conducted initial investigations and handed over details to the NIA, but officials say that it was not enough; the CCTV footage recovered did not provide clear details on the suspects.

It was on December 28, 2014 that the IED explosion at Church Street resulted in the death of Bhavani Devi (38), native of Chennai and injured Karthik, Sandeep and Vinay.

Several officials were instructed to work on the case, but details of nearly a lakh calls over a period of five months did not yield any results.

Later, city Police Commissioner M N Reddi urged the government to hand over the case to the NIA as they felt there was a possible involvement of inter-state terror groups and on May 20, 2015, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah recommended the same.

Though the NIA officials worked closely with the police, they met a dead end. An official said that it was not known which organization had carried out the attack and none had claimed responsibility.

Ruckus in Lok Sabha as CPI-M nails Rajnath’s ‘first Hindu ruler after 800 years’ remark

New Delhi: There was uproar in the Lok Sabha on Monday after CPI(M) leader Mohammed Salim targetted Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh for allegedly describing Prime Minister as India’s ‘first Hindu ruler after 800 years’.

“I was quoting from a magazine. If Rajnath Singh is denying it, then let him send a legal notice to the publication,” said Salim.

“Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that for first time in 800 years, a Hindu has become India’s PM,” he added.

Salim further quoted Rajnath Singh, as saying in that article, that “after Prithviraj Chauhan, we have a Hindu ruler after 800 years.”

Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Saugata Roy said, “It is true that notice should be given. Outlook magazine is dated November 16, two weeks have passed. If it was not true, home minister should have taken note and issued a denial letter. Why did he not do it?

The Home Minister, on his part, expressed his disappointment over the CPI (M) leader’s remark, saying he has never been hurt as much as today in his entire parliamentary career.

“If a Home Minister gives such a statement, then, he should not be in such a position,” he added.

The Lok Sabha is presently holding a debate on the situation arising out of incidents of intolerance in the country under rule 193.

Modi meets Sharif at CoP 21 in Paris

Paris: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday met his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif as world leaders converged here for the inauguration of the Conference of Parties (CoP) 21 climate summit.

“PM @narendramodi meets PM Nawaz Sharif at COP 21 in Paris,” External Affairs Ministry spokesman Vikas Swarup tweeted along with a picture of the two leaders shaking hands.

Earlier, French President Francois Hollande welcomed Modi at the summit venue here.

“On a chilly November morning, Modi is welcomed by President Hollande,” Swarup said in another tweet.

Modi will address the opening session of CoP 21 on Monday evening after inaugurating an Indian pavilion.

Modi, who arrived in Paris on Sunday, is also scheduled to hold several bilateral meetings, following the opening of the plenary session by Hollande.

Modi’s bilateral meetings include one with US President Barack Obama.

The Indian pavilion showcases the country’s harmony with nature, environment and commitment to mitigating climate change.

Modi is to launch a 122-country solar alliance with Hollande.

“President @fhollande and I will jointly host a meeting of International Solar Alliance,” Modi said ahead of his departure from New Delhi on Sunday.

Modi will also attend ‘Mission Innovation’ hosted by Obama.

SC dismisses PIL on Rahul Gandhi’s citizenship row

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today dismissed a plea seeking a direction to CBI to register a case against Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi for allegedly declaring himself as a British national before company law authorities there.

A bench comprising Chief Justice H L Dattu and Justice Amitava Roy questioned the “authenticity of the document” attached with the PIL and the manner in which the papers were procured.

“Can we start making roving inquiries,” the bench asked while turning the petition as “frivolous”.

Earlier the apex court had refused urgent hearing on a plea filed by lawyer M L Sharma.

Recently, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has alleged that the Congress Vice President has claimed himself to be a British national before the authorities in connection with incorporation of a firm.

Nayan who is on a roll after hat-trick of hits in ‘Thani Oruvan’. ‘Maya’ & ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ has been paid a whopping salary for accepting the lead lady role in this film to be produced on a grand scale by Shibu Thameens of ‘Puli’ fame. The Lady Superstar has signed up the deal to act in the yet to be titled film with Vikram after being offered Rs.3 crores as the salary. If this is true it will be the highest salary paid to a South Indian actress and Nayan will become the number one actress in terms of salary.

Dhansika Bags Maniratnam Film

It was widely reported a few weeks back that Maniratnam’s proposed multi starrer tentatively titled ‘Vellai Pookkal’ was dropped with news that Mani is producing the Hindi remake of ‘Ok Kanmani’ adding to the speculation. But now the buzz is resurfacing that the most celebrated Indian director is indeed doing the film with Karthi, Nani & Nithya Menen and will be joined by Dhansika who will supposedly do the role that was originally intended for Keerthy Suresh. Shooting will reportedly begin from Apr, 2016 but however this being a Maniratnam film, we can confirm only when the man himself opens up about his project.

Vijay’s High Voltage Stunts By Hollywood Action Director

The next schedule of Illayathalapathy Vijay’s ‘Theri’ directed by Atlee is set to begin in Goa in a few days time and a high voltage stunt sequence on a bus is going to be filmed. For this risky sequence stunt director Dilip Subbarayan is going to collaborate with celebrated Hollywood action director Kaloian Vodenicharov, who is known for his exemplary work in films like ‘Troy’, ‘World War Z’, ‘The Bourne Series’, ‘Mission Impossible’ et al. Vodenicharov is also not new to Indian films as he has already worked in S.S. Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali – The Beginning’ and currently doing SRK-Kajol’s ‘Dilwale’.

Jayam & Arvind To Combine Again

The ‘Thani Oruvan’ hit combo Jayam Ravi & Arvind Swamy in all likelihood will team up once again for a new film to be produced by Prabhu Deva & directed by Lakshman of ‘Romeo Juliet’ fame. Initially Vijay Sethupathy and later Bobby Simha were said to be doing the parallel hero role in the as yet untitled film but now it looks like the talks are in the final stages with Arvind Swamy who is on the verge of signing. Official confirmation is awaited on this one.

Dynamic producer Dil Raju is collaborating with creative director Krishna Vamsi for a techno-graphical extravaganza. The film boasts of high end visual effects and will be made on a staggering budget. The film will have 2 female leads and 5 male leads. The makers are planning to kick start the film early next year. Currently, the script work is on and Vamsi is giving final touches to it. Usually, we get to see either a mythological or a socio-fantasy film which boasts of heavy graphics but it remains to be seen what’s going to be the genre of Krishna Vamsi’s film. Rakul Special In ‘Nannaku Prematho’

Petite beauty Rakul Preet Singh is all set to present a flavour of her voice to the Tollywood audiences soon. Grapevine is that Rakul, who is fluent in speaking Telugu, is going to dub her lines in her upcoming film ‘Nannaku Prematho’. The actress has been picking up the language for a while now and has got the diction right. Rakul was supposed to dub her lines for Ravi Teja starrer ‘Kick 2’ but things never fell in place owing to hectic production schedules. The actress had begun dubbing the lines and is quite excited to don this new role. She is working really hard and is putting sincere efforts to give an authentic feel to the audiences.

Mahesh Returns His Remuneration

Superstar Mahesh Babu has returned Rs 10 cr which he received as a token advance from producer S Radha Krishna says sources. Radha Krishna, who earlier made blockbuster hits like ‘Julayi’ and S/O Sathyamurthy, has approached Mahesh to team up with Trivikram Srinivas for a new movie. However, things never worked in favour of the producer and despite paying advance remuneration to Mahesh, Radha Krishna has dropped his plans to make a film with the Superstar. Although the exact reason behind this development is yet to be announced, sources close to the producer reveals that he doesn’t want to push Mahesh to kick-start his project before the actor wraps up ‘Brahmotsavam’ and another movie with AR Murugadoss.

Mohanlal In NTR’s Next

Young Tiger NTR & director Koratala Shiva have collaborated for a new movie tentatively titled ‘Janatha Garage – Ikkada anni repairlu cheyyabadunu’. Produced by Mythri movies, the film will begin the principal shooting in Jan, 2016 soon after NTR wraps up ‘Nannaku Prematho’. The film has an interesting addition to its star cast. According to reports, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has been roped in to play a pivotal role in this NTR-starrer. Mohanlal, who was in Hyderabad to discuss about the shooting schedule of his upcoming Telugu film under the director of Chandrasekhar Yeleti, has agreed to play a crucial role in NTR’s film. Speculations were rife that Mohanlal will play an important role in NTR’s action entertainer. However, an official confirmation is awaited.

Uthara & Manisha Completes ‘Edavapathi’ Shoot

Lenin Rajendran’s upcoming movie titled ‘Edavapathi’ has been completed. The movie stars Manisha Koiralla, Uthara Unni & Siddarth Lama of ‘Yodha’ fame in the lead roles. The movie is a period one based on the tales of Vasavadutta & Upagupta. Uthara Unni is excited to be part of this venture as she has got the chance to share screen with Manisha Koiralla, who incidentally has given the young actress a boost with her positive review of her acting. Uthara has also got the opportunity to showcase her dancing skills through this movie. Lenin himself has written the movie. The movie was shot at various locations including Manali, Kulu et al.

Archana Gets Engaged

Actress Archana Kavi of ‘Neelathamara’ fame has got engaged to her beau Abish Mathew. The actress herself posted a picture of her engagement with him and wrote “. You are taken Abish Mathew. Guys, we got engaged”. The duo were childhood friends who grew up in Delhi. They had admitted to their relationship recently in a leading magazine. Abish is a stand up comedian and is part of the famed AIB team. Archana has not been very active in tinsel town of late. She will get married early next year.

‘Swachcha Bharatha’ U Certified

Former KFCC President and current FCI director B Vijayakumar much loved film ‘Swachcha Bharatha’ (on the basis of Swachch Andolan of Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi) has been cleared by regional censor certificate with ‘U’ and without any cuts. It has been wish of producer B Vijayakumar to make a message oriented with commercial format. This is one such film heading for audio release of the film. ‘Swachcha Bharatha’ the 50th direction of BR Keshava was shot in Bengaluru, Kashi, Varanasi locations. Pramod is cameraman, MS Maruthi scores music, Siddaraju is editor & Seshagiri has penned dialogues.
